  1. Aum Gum Shreem Maha Lakshmiyei Svaha is a mantra to Lakshmi for prosperity. Her seed mantra is Shreem, but I think the full mantra is more conductive. Aum Aing Saraswatiyei Namaha is a mantra to Saraswati Ma. Her seed mantra is Aing, but, as with Lakshmi's, I think reciting the full mantra is more conductive for Her worship.
  2. Garga Samhita and Brahma Vaivarta Purana both talk about Radha in detail.
  3. I really hope that's truly the case.
  4. Great. Just great. That's exactly what our country needs, to enter yet another war. God bless America. Eh, I actually like it that they don't teach blatant Creationism in public schools (I don't even know what a science class teaching the theory would have in it's curriculum since there's so much religious diversity). If parents want their children to learn about God, they'll either teach them themselves or they'll put them in a private religious school.
  5. I'm sorry you've encountered such hardship from this person, bhadramoorthi Ji. Devi is very powerful. I'm sure She loves you very much, and that's all that really matters in the end. Just because this guy doesn't believe in Devi Bhagavata Purana doesn't make it any less true. Just stop talking to the jerk... maybe in his next life he'll encounter the love and the power of Ma. Jai Mata Ji!
  6. Why would a woman not be able to chant Durga Suktam? Durga is a female deity... why would SHE not want women to chant Her glories?
  7. What a silly protocol Why would God care where you washed your dishes? Why don't you just offer your food and forget about the rest? Because of an idiotic protocol that Lord Krishna never asked for in the first place? Seems like a strange reason...
  8. I offer food to Annapurna and Radha-Krishna Annapurna is the mother of food, so we can't forget Her!
  9. Jai Radhika! I think your altar sounds beautiful. Radharani and Krishna don't care about the details, They just care about the devotion. And it seems you've set up your altar with lots of devotion, so, I'm sure They'll accept both it and you with love.
  10. You clearly haven't studied Mahayana Buddhism in depth, or you would know that they do believe in a self, just not a seperate self. It's often explained as 'the wave is nondifferent from the water'. They think that, just as there are many waves but they're all really of the same substance and really only form one unit in the end, there appear to be many creatures, but each is really interconnected with everything else.
  11. Actually, not all Buddhists believe in anatta in the literal sense. Most Mahayana Buddhists think that there just isn't a 'seperate Self', and that we're all united in one Self. Mahayana Buddhists also don't shun dependence. They depend heavily on the mercy of the Bodhisattvas and often pray for their mercy.
  12. Here are a few pictures of the Great Goddess: OM HAREENG BAGLAMUKHI NAMAHA!!!
  13. Mahayana Buddhists often practice Bhakti to at least some degree. Most schools encourage the choosing of an Ishta-Devata who the devotee can concentrate on during meditation. They also encourage japa meditiation.
  14. I pray to Lord Shiva and Kalika Mataji as well I actually have a murti of Kalika and a picture of Shiv-Parivar on my home altar and worship Them on a regular basis.
  15. I'm a Vaishnava, and I pray to Lord Ganesh to remove obstacles before I perform puja. I also worship Him along with Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali.
  16. My deities of Radha-Krishna are Ashtadhatu, too.
  17. I love your new avatar Baobabtree Jai Uma-Maheshwara!
  18. Jesus said that stoning people was wrong and rebuked people for doing so: Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, <WOJ>“All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”</WOJ> 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, <WOJ>“Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”</WOJ> “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, <WOJ>“Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”</WOJ> --John 8.1-11 --------- Once again, Jesus isn't Yahweh. His god wasn't Yahweh. And he didn't follow the law of Yahweh. Maybe you should actually read the words of Jesus instead of just making baseless assumptions about his concept of God.
  19. This is a book from the Old Testament/Torah. You aren't quoting Jesus. Jesus taught that God is loving and merciful: When Jesus saw the many people, he went up on a hill. He sat down and his disciples came to him. He began to teach the people. He said, `God makes happy those who know that they need him. The kingdom of heaven is for them. `God makes happy those who are sad. They will have comfort. `God makes happy those who quietly trust him and do not try to get their own way. The world will belong to them. `God makes happy those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right and good. They will be filled. `God makes happy those who are kind. He will be kind to them. `God makes happy those who have clean hearts. They will see God. `God makes happy those who make peace between people. They will be called God's sons. `God makes happy those who have trouble for doing what is right. The kingdom of heaven is for them. `God makes you happy when people say wrong things about you, when they trouble you, and when they say all kinds of lies about you. God makes you happy when it is for my sake. Be happy and glad because God will be good to you in heaven. In the same way people troubled the prophets before your time.' `You are like salt in the world. If salt has lost its taste, how can it be made salty again? Salt that has no taste is good for nothing. The only thing to do is to throw it out on the road. `You are like light in the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. So also with a lamp. People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket. But they put it on the place for a lamp. Then all the people in the house can see its light. So, let your light shine to all people. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father in heaven.' --Matthew 5.1-16 ------Jesus' message was so much different from the Old Testament's, and the god he portrayed was so different from Yahweh, that many early Christians completely rejected the Old Testament and thought that Jesus was trying to fix the wrongs that had been done in the name of God in Israel.
  20. You are so ridiculous. Jesus (the prophet of the New Testament) isn't Yahweh (the god of the Torah/Old Testament). You are quoting Yahweh, not Jesus. Jesus said that life was important and was worth more that just the daily necessities: So, I tell you this. Do not be troubled about what you will eat or drink to keep alive. Do not be troubled about what you will wear on your body. Life itself is worth more than food, and the body is worth more than clothes. --Matthew 6.25
  21. I do believe that the events in the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita took place in real time. I believe in Hanuman and I believe there was a battle at Kurukshetra. I haven't heard of any remains being found, but it doesn't play a large part in my belief in the events anyway, since to believe in nearly any deity, you have to go more off of faith than actual evidence.
  22. Abortion can be refuted by it's cruelty and the harm it causes to both mother and child physically. There are secular reasons for the banning of abortion. However, homosexuals aren't harming anyone by loving who they love in the privacy of their own lives. There is NO secular reason for the banning of marriage between consenting, adult homosexuals.
  23. I take it as representing the spirit ascending toward God. Yea, so can drinking through straws and eating food heated up in a microwave.
  24. I didn't know that Kateri Amman was an incarnation of Siddhidatri Ma! Thanks for the info, Baobabtree!
