I just did a find and here's what I got: "Once I was almost dying, and suddenly Govinda Maharaj came and gave me some medicine, and that helped me - gave me new life. So he has some mystic ability. When his mother gave birth to him she prayed to Shiva -- near Jamalpur there is a Buroraj Shiva Temple. She prayed to that Shiva, "May I have a child," and then Govinda Maharaj was born. Shiva has given one holy person, with some sort of siddhi, mystic power. I sometimes think he might have possessed it." - Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj And: Following is an excerpt from Bhakti Lalita Devi Dasi’s biography of Srila Gurudev, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj. From the chapter 'Son of Lord Shiva:' In the holy village of Sripat Bamunpara, District Burdwan, West Bengal lived the blessed parents of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj – Sri Nitai Pada Das Adhikari and Srimati Tarangini Devi, of the respected brahminical lineage Chatterjee. Sri Nitai Pada Das Adhikari and his forefathers were of (followed in) the 'parivar' or disciplic succession of Lord Sri Nityananda Prabhu. It is general knowledge in the family that Lord Nityananda Prabhu Himself awarded the title "Das Adhikari" to the family, thereby changing Chatterjee to the title Das Adhikari. Nityananda Prabhu is also believed to have had some connection with the family Deities "Sri Sri Radha-Gopinathjiu," who are still being worshipped today in a beautiful Temple at the Das Adhikari residence in Sripat Bamunpara. The first-born child and son of Nitai Pada Prabhu and Tarangini Devi died one year after his birth. With grief-stricken hearts and earnest prayers, the blessed couple decided to invoke the grace of Lord Shiva for his son to appear in their family. Undergoing the appropriate worship of the Deity Buraraj (or 'old' Shiva, a very ancient and famous Shiva Lingam presiding in Jamalpur, District Burdwan), and satisfying him with offerings of Bael leaves, Ganges water and a promise that the boy would one day take sannyas, Nitai Pada Prabhu and Tarangini Devi conceived the son of Lord Shiva. At the auspicious moment of Krsna -paksa ditia titi (lunar day), under the star of mitum (Gemini), ascending in tula (Libra), on Tuesday, the seventeenth of December, 1929, at four o'clock a.m., the divine child appeared. When the birth announcement first reached Nitai Pada Prabhu's ears, he ran straight for Jamalpur without even seeing the newly born baby. Arriving at the temple of Buraraj with his prostrated obeisances, Nitai Pada Prabhu prayerfully reported to Lord Shiva the news of his son's birth. At that moment, Nitai Pada Prabhu heard the voice of Shiva: "Yes my son has taken his birth, but go at once and remove the khajol (black protective markings customarily applied on babies and children in India to counteract any inauspiciousness, envy, ghosts, etc.) from his body! I am his protector and no evil can ever touch him." Nitai Pada Prabhu was astonished and returned immediately to his residence in Bamunpara to find that, indeed, the women of the family had covered the newborn baby with khajol. After Nitai Pada Prabhu relayed the order of Shiva to the family, they joyfully washed away the khajol from the body of the newborn boy. From that day on, everyone in the village and surrounding areas knew this boy to be the "son of Lord Shiva," and, needless to say, he was the only child not wearing khajol. The divine child was named Dharma Das and was adored by everyone who saw him. He had auspicious long arms and elongated eyes. As a newborn, the women of the village would come and take turns holding and adoring him at five-minute intervals. After one month of confinement in the maternity room, Tarangini Devi set out with Nitai Pada through the jungle to Jamalpur in order to present the baby to Lord Buroraj. On the way, the couple had an encounter with a tiger, who gazed specifically upon the baby. With a fearless heart and full faith in the protection of Lord Buroraj, Tarangini Devi placed the baby on the ground and dared the tiger to touch the son of Lord Shiva. After a few moments, the tiger retreated back into the jungle! http://www.scsmath.com/memories/06b/061206-Nabadwip-VP/061206-Nabadwip-VP.htm

Srila Govinda Maharaja, Srila Sridhar Maharaja's official successor has a established a small Siva temple on the grounds of the Sri Caitanya Saraswat Math in Navadvipa. Some of his followers who I have met have related a story of how, Govinda Maharaja, is actually the son of Lord Siva. Maybe somebody on this forum knows more about it.

Now that's an interesting observation but it's coming from the state of ordinary, conditioned consciousness. The devotional process is to see the faults in ourselves. What you describe is a perception from a very base level of reality. Sometimes we have to see this in order to protect ourselves from hypocrites who could potentially harm us but generally its really nothing to repeat or meditate on. How astonishing that babies soil their diapers or children spill their milk.
-
Srila Prabhuapda explained that Lord Siva is not a demigod but rather a semigod. Of course you probably can't handle the reasoning, but it is connected with the milk transformed into yogurt analogy in the Brahma Samhita. Srila Sridhar Maharaja has explained that Sada Siva and Maha Visnu are more or less the same. In the Caitanyite theology Sri Advaita Acarya is considered to be an incarnation of Maha Visnu therefore sometimes it is said that his real identity is Sada Siva. At almost all temples connected with Radha Krsna and Mahaprabhu in India there is also a Siva Lingam. At the Lingam, Siva Ji is worshiped as the Dhamesvara, the protecter of the dhama and as Gopisvara Mahadeva. If you look closely at all this you'll see why the Srimad Bhagavatam therefore says, Vaisnavanam yatha sambu, Lord Siva is the best amongst the devotees.

Sri Sri Prapanna Jivanamrtam, compiled by Srila B.R. Sridhar Maharaja Verse 4:3 by Sri Kulasekhara: nastha dharme na vasu-nicaye naiva kamopabhoge yad yad bhavyam bhavatu bhagavan purva-karmanurupam etat prarthyam mama bahu-matam janma-janmantare 'pi tvat padambhoruha-yuga-gata niscala bhaktir astu "O Lord, I have no faith in religiosity, economic development, or sense enjoyment. May all these things come to pass as they are ordained according to my previous karma. But my earnest prayer is that birth after birth I may have unflinching devotion for Your lotus feet." Srila B.S. Govinda Maharaja:It is not very difficult to understand what Krishna-bhakti is, but what is necessary is the mood of surrender. If you surrender you can understand everything; if you do not fully surrender then many difficulties will come. There is no difficulty for the surrendered soul.

Here is an example of one manifesting a tamasic mentality. All subtle arguments such as the real Gaudiya Vaisnava concept of Shiva Ji are lost upon them. So, lost upon them that they are not even capable of giving an intellegent rebuttal.

Response to Krsna regarding initiation

Speak for yourself!!!! Never met a sahajiya that I didn't like. I don't believe in in Jesus, I just believe in me, Yoko and me, and that's reality. I'm still veg so I don't eat Tripe nor would I even feed it to my dog. And although I don't dislike NM, I don't quote him, so there!!! -
I really don't understand why this is such a contentious point if everything is "simultaneously one and different" from itself since all existence is with Krsna's multifarious energies. Didn't Srila Sridhar Maharaja say that the pure devotee has two aspects, his inspired side and his life as a vaisnava? If you look at it from the inspired side then he is nondifferent from akhanda guru tattva. By definition akhanda guru tattva is certainly onmiscient but from the relative view point the individual vaisnava devotee, representing akhanda guru tattva, may appear to make mistakes. Also the mistakes and illusions commited by Lord Brahma in the Bhagavatam are the exceptions to his general condition as a great devotee, and that's why those lilas have so much instructive value.

Response to Krsna regarding initiation

Peter Burwash, the famous tennis pro, had personal association with Srila Prabhupada on several occaisions although he could never bring himself to take hari nama initiation. He told several people that he had been given hari nama initiation in a dream by Prabhupada. Sometime in the early eighties someone asked Srila Sridhar Maharaja about this. He replied something like, "it may be" and quoted BG 9.22, yoga-ksemam vahamy aham. I don't remember how he translated it but the BBT online translation of part of the verse is, "to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have". Sometimes we delude ourselves into thinking we know everything about Krsna, but of course we don't. ' [url="http://www.bhagavadgitaasitis.com/a/aham"] [url="http://www.bhagavadgitaasitis.com/a/aham"] -
Also a way to remember this is, give a snake a big enough aropa and he just might hang himself.
-
Eh! Astsa matta wid 'a you? When is aropa a snake 'a and when is a snake 'a aropa?

If what you are saying is true, then it is very sad but true:crying2:. My adjustment or attempt to harmonize the contradictions is this: I see Srila Prabhupada as the representative or the most full representation of Krsna in this world in recent times. After all he is shaktyavesa avatara, as first revealed by Srila Sridhar Maharaja. Krsna is always changing, we can never pin him down or really "know" him by our "puppy brains". So Prabhupada is like that. I am sure that Sridhar Maharaja, Puri Maharaja, Kesava Maharaja and their successors, official and unofficial would not accept your theory although it seems plausable at first glance. If a disciple of a current Gaudiya guru his having trouble reconciling the apparent contradictions in Prabhupada's words then perhaps he should emphasize the books of his own guru and param guru, but he/she must make the proper adjustment. So maybe one would keep Prabhupada's vani at distance at first until they become firm. Perhaps at that point it would be wise for them to approach Prabhupada's lotus feet for his vani. Otherwise how we ever really appreciate his great sacrifices and bhakti? How would one ever consider the real debt that all of us have to him if we kept him at a distance from us forever?

Mazel tov Guestt on a totally meshugina post. The highly esteemed successor to Srlla Sridhar Maharaja, Srila Govinda Maharaja said that, "Swami Maharaja (Prabhupada) bored a hole through the mountain of western false ego and only then have I been able to come through". This means that all the preachers from India who have gained influence in the west since Prabhupada are all taking his remnants or prasadam. Therefore all the followers of these gurus also have a debt to Prabhupada, and this cannot be diminished. Therefore he is sisksa guru for all of us, so how can we (they, all) not hear from him? And now for all you in the Vaterland: Mazel tov Guestt auf einem total meshugina Pfosten.

Today we are here at ISKCON Los Angeles. As a free member of the Gaudiya Mission I wish to procliam, Ich bin ein ISKCONer. After the great guru Srila Prabhupada left this world no Gaudiya camp has suffered more than ISKCON: through the Zonal Acarya system and the extreme tyranny of the ego maniacs that run the GBC; through the Great Split with Sridhar Maharaja to the Great Rtvik Wars and finally the onslaught of Naryana Maharajism! Yes O ISKCONers you have seen it all. Even to the practicle demise of the zone of the fomer tyrant H****** headquartered in the glorious Vaterland (Fatherland) Now it is time to extablsh the son of the Vaterland and Great Rtvikian, Hamsaduta and save the Yatra of the Vaterland! -

Dear Prabhuji, I think that you are barking up the wrong tree with this Shakti-fan. If you take the primary quote that he quoted: </reasons>" It's as preposterous as saying that a conditioned soul can attain pure love for God simply by reading Srila Prabhupada's books and not take diksa initiation from a bona-fide guru." and then translate it into the language of the Fatherland, you will see what I mean: "It's so preposterous, wie, sagend, daß eine konditionierte Seele reine Liebe für Gott durch lesensrila Prabhupadas Bücher einfach erreichen und diksa Einführung von einem bona-fide Guru nicht nehmen kann.":deal: -

How does Bhakti affect family who are not Bhakti's
Beggar replied to a topic in Spiritual Discussions
Kind of sounds overly ritualistic, or smarta. I'm not trying to be a smarta-asana either, so please excuse me. I guess I shouldn't be so audacious since this advice is probably coming from a saintly person. Can you put that prasadam out to be eaten by the birds, instead of throwing it away? -

Exactly because of the ISKCON Zonal Acarya system, the fall downs, then the so-called reforms and then even more fall downs the entire system of "love and trust" was more or less ruined in ISKCON. This may be the psychology behind the whole thing but there is also a philosophy/theology based on what they call "The Final Order". Guruvani can explain it but it seems that he's semi-retired from "posting madness". -
February 16, 1970 Los Angeles Sriman George Harrison c/o Apple Record Co. London, England My Dear George, Please accept my blessings. I am so much obliged to you for your valued cooperation in spreading my movement of Krsna Consciousness throughout the whole world. I beg to acknowledge receipt herewith of your contribution of $19,000 (nineteen thousand dollars) for publication of my book, Krsna, now going to the press within the week. Please note that every farthing of this money will be employed in the service of the Lord, and the Lord is so kind and grateful that He will bestow upon you benediction at least ten times more than that you have done for Him. It does not, however, mean that Lord Krsna is like a business man, and He bestows benediction when He is profited by our service. The Lord is full in Himself; He does not require our service, but if we render service unto Him in love and devotion, such action enriches our very existence. The example in this connection is given that when a man decorates his face, he does not feel much enjoyment because he cannot see his own face. But he enjoys his beautiful face when it is reflected on the mirror. In other words, when a living entity, by rendering service to the Lord, feels happy, the Lord enjoys the situation. Under the pressure of illusory energy, especially in the age of ``Kali,'' all the people of the world are unhappy; but I am sure if they take to this simple chanting of the Holy Name of the Lord, Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare under the guidance of Lord Caitanya, certainly they will be happy. I know that both you and John are very good souls. Both of you are pledged to do something for the peace of the world. By the grace of Krsna, you have already realized to some extent about the necessity and importance of Hare Krsna movement in the world. Similarly, if John also does so, it will be a great event. John and his wife were very kind upon me when I was staying at Tittenhurst Park as their guests. I always prayed for them to Krsna for understanding this great movement. Please inform him this message on my behalf. I have dreamt something very nice about John which I shall disclose in proper time. In the meantime, please ask him to cooperate with this movement as you are doing, and he will be very happy. Please try to understand the philosophy of Krsna Consciousness in a nutshell: Every living entity has a dormant propensity to love somebody other who is very excellent in his opinion. Everyone of us therefore wants to love somebody else, attracted by his different varieties of opulences. Somebody loves some other either on account of riches, power, popularity, beauty, knowledge, or renunciation. But this loving propensity for somebody else is fundamentally meant for the supremely rich, powerful, popular, beautiful, wise, and unattached Lord Krsna. Everyone is hankering after loving the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but none of them has the right information. By Krsna Consciousness movement we want to broadcast this information that if anyone reposes his loving propensity upon Krsna, he will immediately feel full satisfaction, as much as he feels full satisfaction by supplying food in the stomach. Otherwise, everyone will be frustrated. Please try to understand this simple philosophy by critical analysis, and I hope by the grace of Krsna you will be a great servant of His in fulfilling His desire that He may be known by His Holy Name in every village and every city all over the world, and thus the people will become happy. Hope this will meet you in good health and shall be very much pleased to hear from you. Your ever well-wisher, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami ACBS:db

Shakti-fan, the curse is on you and maybe me. You either "Know" or have heard too much from too many sources. Its really not about knowing every thing about everything. The simple devotees who just render menial service to their gurudeva are better situated me thinks. And Brajeshwara, one thing that Shakti-fan is definitely right about is that when you come to Audarya, Spiritual Forums, you are definitely outside the property line of your father, guru. It's a free for all out here. Every man, women and child for themselves or their guru etc etc.

As shown before when Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada told that "sex life is abominable" he was using the definition, which is now somewhat archaic, were abominable means only "inferior". Bhaktivedanta VedaBase: Bhagavad-gītā As It Is 2.59 viṣayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ rasa-varjaḿ raso 'py asya paraḿ dṛṣṭvā nivartate SYNONYMS viṣayāḥ — objects for sense enjoyment; vinivartante — are practiced to be refrained from; nirāhārasya — by negative restrictions; dehinaḥ — for the embodied; rasa-varjam — giving up the taste; rasaḥ — sense of enjoyment; api — although there is; asya — his; param — far superior things; dṛṣṭvā — by experiencing; nivartate — he ceases from. TRANSLATION The embodied soul may be restricted from sense enjoyment, though the taste for sense objects remains. But, ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste, he is fixed in consciousness. PURPORT Unless one is transcendentally situated, it is not possible to cease from sense enjoyment. The process of restriction from sense enjoyment by rules and regulations is something like restricting a diseased person from certain types of eatables. The patient, however, neither likes such restrictions nor loses his taste for eatables. Similarly, sense restriction by some spiritual process like aṣṭāńga-yoga, in the matter of yama, niyama, āsana, prāṇāyāma, pratyāhāra, dhāraṇā, dhyāna, etc., is recommended for less intelligent persons who have no better knowledge. But one who has tasted the beauty of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa, in the course of his advancement in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, no longer has a taste for dead, material things. Therefore, restrictions are there for the less intelligent neophytes in the spiritual advancement of life, but such restrictions are only good until one actually has a taste for Kṛṣṇa consciousness. When one is actually Kṛṣṇa conscious, he automatically loses his taste for pale things.
