Then after that you can pray for a initiation guru, but the main thing is to hear from the Founder/Acharya of Iskcon first and foremost. Do not let anyone tell you that you can not associate with Prabhupada! He is the main teaching guru of Iskcon still today. The initiation guru is also there, but after Prabhupada only.

But if you are following then you will be a nicer person and they will notice and link the two, both better person and Hare Krishna. Both my parents became understanding after time. I joined when i was a teen and now nearly 50! My mom was very conscerned and checked on me when I first joined and then after some time she wrote a letter saying that atleast my diet had become what she considered perfect. She now understands that our "religion" is very old and bonafide. And questions the "faith" of her's = catholic christian

Since i too am a "forest dweller" i thought to reply.... I think your approach is very good, to study Krishna Consciousness. The practice is very easy, just Chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, Krishna Dances on your tongue! I was a forest dweller and also got the Bhagavad-gita, mine was the "As It Is" version from before 1980. It changed my life and gave me understanding of the world and how it works. Ofcourse these things are very hard to understand but the study of Krishna Consciousness is the Practice too.

A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami pointed out that Lord Jesus was a Shaktivesa Avatara. If one looks into the Prophecy of Lord Chaitanya Srila Prabhupada comes up as the one to fulfill such Prophecy of Every Town and Village the Holy Name (maha mantra) will be spread, hense another Shaktivesa Avatara. Or another one especially empowered to bring back the Sanatana Dharma. And since no one has come as such an Shaktivesa Avatara/Acharya as Lord Jesus the Christ or Srila Prabhupada in all these years of Kali Yuga, then yes i am in love with Jesus and REAL Christianity or that the main focus of Spiritual Life is to develope our lost Love of God/Krishna. And what did Srila Prabhupada say we should develope and inspired THOUSANDS in the Past and the Present as well as the Future. Love of Krishna or Bhakti Yoga. Sorry but no others have inspired so many and may never will. But go ahead and worship your Spritual Master and develope your Love of Krishna as long and as well as you are inspired. Hare Krishna, I have not yet been able to "cut and paste" so i can not give the exact words,but Srila Prabhupada's Krishna book has a pastime of Krishna and Nanda maharaj. In this pastime Nanda maharaj is getting ready to worship Indra, but Krishna stops this and insists that Nanda maharaj should worship Goverdhana hill along with the cows of the hill. Perhaps someone who is good at the cut and paste trick could put down the pastime here to show that Krishna by example worshiped the cows?
