  2. Hare Krishna, I remember my first time to tye a dhoti, before mangala arotik. A devotee named rejendranatha helped me he was from the Radha Damodhara travelling sankirtana party. It is something that one does not forget, i guess because i in turn years later taught a new bhakta how. Recently a devotee told me that i was the one to teach him how to tye for the first time. My duties for Prabhupada put me in places that were dusty/dirty sometimes during the morning program. I had this outfit called "overalls" that were just that kind of cloths. When an emergency came up during the MOrning program i would jump into that outfit over my dhoti/kurta and go to work, after done i could get out of those and back into the morning program.
  3. How is bhagavad-gita involved in our practise? It is the sum and substance of our philosophy, just as Krishna spoke it to Arjuna. Prabhupada, founder/acharya of this movement speeks it to us as it is same as Arjuna heard it. There is no other way to present the bhagavad-gita other than the way Krishna spoke it. How have translations effected the meaning of the bhagavad-gita? Prabhupada's translation has not effected the meaning in any way it is as it was spoken thousands of years ago. Some translations try to say that the meaning of the bhagavad-gita is this or that other than the way Krishna spoke it. You can not get the full meaning that way. What does the bhagavad-gita have to teach someone living in modern america? It can teach us the most important knowledge, how to become happy, what our posistion is in this material world, who we really are and so much more. So much more great knowledge can be had within its covers Address for center close to Tampa:14607 N 16th street,Lutz,Fl.33549 email: krishnaram108@hotmail.com click here to visit web page for iskcon @ alacua florida farm/temple, visit and go to vegetarian sunday feast click here to see web site for Iskcon Gainsville Florida, also visit and have vegetarian sunday feast click here to view temple locations including Miami Florida click here to go to web site for Bhagavad-gita As It Is

  7. Hare Krishna, Near the end of Prabhupada's pastimes on earth he said that only half of his work was done(creating a world wide society) and that the other half to be done was to establish varnasrama. Here is one letter showing his "ambitions" in this line.... click here to read a letter written by Prabhupada about Self Independancy
  8. Hare Krsna, I saw this thread and thought it good to have the song here too! So here it is and AS IT IS! Prabhupada style ki jai! click here for Jaya Radha Madhava Song/Prabhupada in Real Audio Hare Krishna
  9. Hare Krsna, I have a folio disk of Prabhupada's Complete Works. I have got some complaints about my posts here because they lack the direct quotes from Prabhupada. I could type all those but if "cut and pasting" is possible then why? Can anyone help me? Thankyou, skd/bhakta christopher
  10. The song of God is heard from God/Krsna. He says to surrender to Him, the personality of God. He says surrender to...."me". THAT is hearing bhagavad-gita, to hear it as Krsna spoke it. Prabhupada translated the sanskrit as Krsna spoke it, therefore it is called bhagavad-gita AS IT IS. That is very significant, listen to what ever bhagavad-gita you want but if you want to hear it AS IT IS then the choice is clearly only one.
  11. Hare Krsna, Another Bhagavad-gita? no thanks. The Only Bhagavad-gita i will read is the one translated by our preeminent Acarya, A.C.BHAKTIVEDANTA SWAMI. Not by Bhaktivedanta's disiple even, just the one that Prabhupada read himself, called bonafide and AS IT IS. AS IT IS means as Krishna Himself gave to us, thankyou very much! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

  14. bhagavad-gita 3.37......ACBS Prabhupada..... When a living entity comes in contact with the material creation, his eternal love for Krsna is transformed into lust, in association with the mode of passion. Or, in other words, the sense of love of God becomes transformed into lust, as milk in contact with sour tamarind is transformed into yogurt. Just a little bit of powerfull knowledge from Prabhupada above, now a little bit of my interpretations. All conditioned souls entraped in bodies try to satisfy their senses, for we are trying to be happy. But since this love that we feel is actually lust (our trying to satisfy sense gratification) we are unsuccesfull and therefore the lust in turn is transformed into anger in frustration. So when a human "loves" another they are cooperating to try to satisfy their personal senses. "you scratch my back i'll scratch yours" But with analictical thinking we can understand that Prabhupada is right this so called love is actually lust. We need to try to develope real love which would be in connection to the supreme person, Krsna/God. And the best way to do that is CHANT HARE KRSNA AND BE HAPPY!
  15. hare krsna, click here to read about Sriman George in the recent news described as Hare Krishna devotee, inducted into rocknroll hall of fame
  16. And complicated too. But as i understand it an animal is given its life in THAT body according to its past karma. If a human uses his free will to kill THAT animal then the animal must start over again at the place it left off. While the human now must suffer some consequence. So it does not actually quicken the cycle to human form. Although if the same animal is killed due to disease or higher food chain animal, then THAT was an "act of God". Onion and Garlic are foods in the mode of ignorance so they are not benifitial to coming to the mode of goodness. As far as helping others in their material body we dont do that so much. We give them Krsna and Krsna purifies us while in our material bodies or temple for the atma/soul along with the supersoul/paramatma. Purification by prasadam, food offered to Krsna becomes Krsna. Sound also is purifying when it is "Krsnaized" like with the Maha Mantra. These are real benifits for man kind. Also giving the urgent message of Prabhupada "we are not these bodies,we are spirit soulsthe purpose of human life is to become Krsna/God conscious" this is the most benificial knowledge for the embodied soul. Not only human but animal too, for those animals that are touched by Prasadam and Hearing Krsna's name are also purified and helped towards the Ultimate goul of life. As far as vegetarian i celebrate my 27th year soon for that.

  20. Hare Krsna all those interested, click this link to go to another forum with this article written about Prabhupada's preaching in the west only 5 days after arriving
  21. Hare Krsna Prabhus, As far as i know and can find out this is the only place on the web where this article exists. I had to do some work to get it since it is housed 500 miles from where i live. This (i think) is an incredible article, Prabhupada had only been in USA 5 days and already he is urgently preaching. Notice the 3 times Prabhupada brings up important words like milk and cows. Prabhupada was here to fulfill his Master's desire of him, he had to live in a YMCA during this period, cooking his food at another place. This article enlivens me to try harder to fulfill his desire of me, as his follower to become Krsna conscious. He endured many hardships to get here and to preach to us westerners. Thankyou Prabhupada for doing this for us while you did this for your master too.
  22. Hare Krsna, I read in this book that India is the first in the world for most feature length movies made.

  24. Hare Krsna, Following is (typed by bhaktachris) the Butler Eagle Newspaper article written about Prabhupada when he first got to USA, only 5 days after arriving. In Fluent English Devotee of Hindu Cult Explains Commission to Visit the West. By Penny Ritts/Butler Eagle sept.22,1965 A slight brown man in faded orange drapes wearing white bathing shoes stepped out of a compact car yesterday and into the Butler YMCA to attend a meeting. He is A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swamiji, a messenger from India to the peoples of the West. A Hindu by faith, the "learned teacher" has translated biblical literature such as Srimad Bhagavatam into English from ancient Sanskrit. He is now fulfilling a commission from his spiritual master to enlighten English-speaking people regarding their relationship with God. "My mission is to revive a people's God-conciousness." says the Swamiji. "God is the Father of all living beings, in thousands of different forms." he explains. "Human life is a stage of perfection in evolution: if we miss the message, back we go through the process again." he believes. The swamiji has given himself a month to tell his message to all who will listen. He anticipates many informal meetings, such as a gathering of friends in the Gopal Agarwal home in Stirling Apartments Monday the night of his arrival, for an exchange of ideas regarding his philosophy of life. A simplified version of his theory is that life progresses from aquatic to plant, to reptile to bird, to beast to "beastly" human being and finally, to civilized man. "After this life there is a still better life on other planets," predicts the visitor. He believes that the highest possible state will be to go to God, or eternal life. The traveler who left India for the first time Aug.30 will welcome guest appearances or impromptu discussions with anyone who calls the Agarwal family. He says that he is here to talk. Now 70 years old, the appointed "missionary" to the United States was educated in India where he received a bachelor of arts degree. He became a disiple in 1933 and received instructions untill the death of his leader in 1936. He has severed all family ties, forsaking wife and children and a business in Calcutta to follow his beliefs. His religion remains Hindu. He does not ask his listeners to change their religious affiliation, but merely to become "better Jews or Christians," etc. Bhaktivedanta lives as a monk, and permits no woman to touch his food. On a six-week ocean voyage and at the Agarwal apartment in Butler he prepares his meals in a brass pan with seperate levels for steaming rice, vegetables and making "bread" at the same time. He is a strict vegetarian, and is permitted to drink only milk, the "miracle food for babies and old men," he noted. Even onions, garlic, and eggs are forbidden in his cult. The Swamiji is equally philosophical about physical discomforts or wars: "Its man's nature to fight" he shrugs. "We have to adjust to these things; currents come and go in life just as in an ocean." "Life and Milk of Cow" is all-important to the Swamiji's way of life; all else is artificial, he claims. The government of India does not support the Hindu or Moslem religions, neither does it interfere with their practices, he says. His scholarly work is aided by benefactors when and where he finds them. His special dress minimizes the importance of raiment; the white mark on his face is a symbol of devotion. The Swamiji renews his faith with daily prayer, chanting and meditation. If Americans would give more attention to their spirtitual life, they would be much happier, he says. AMBASSADOR OF BHAKTIYOGA photo/butler eagle Bhaktiyoga, chanting the holy name of God, is among the religious practises of A.C.Bhaktivedanta who arrived Monday for a month's stay in Butler area as a "missionary to the West." Pictured in the apartment of his sponsor in the United States, Gopal Agarwal, the Swamiji is residing in the YMCA and cooking his meals at the Agarwal home. "Every culture has religions," he says. "We are all engaged in service of some sort; the highest service is to the Supreme Lord." The scholar-teacher has translated 60 volumes of Sanskrit into English.
