  1. Theist, I know someone who might be interested in the flat (can't make any promises but it has been mentioned). Would it be possible to email me as much detail as possible (price, condition etc etc) including why you are wanting to sell it? I will give the info to the person and see what happens. I wish I could afford to do it!
  2. Sometimes I wish these forums had sound!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I don't remember her face but I do remember his very well! I am doomed! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
  3. Funny as I wrote that I knew I would be giving away my age somewhat! Oh well, it is only the body right? John Denver was the singer. Yep, Bob Denver was Krebs in Dobie Gillis - how in the world can I remember back that far?????
  4. I know of an organization who does this sort of thing. A friend of mine goes there regularly to volunteer help to them. I will be happy to get the info for you if you like. I do request though that you buy a huge suitcase so I can hitch a ride with you!!
  5. I thought Gilligan just wanted to get off the deserted island!! Didn't know he wanted to go to West Virginia! "Bob Denver 1935 (The maha-mantra will take you home, Bob, not West Virginia.)"
  6. My microwave decided to retire the other day and since fried papads are so greasy I decided to use my little electric oven to toast some. I do not suggest doing this!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif In a matter of seconds there were flames shooting out the oven and I had to yank the cord out of the wall and carry this flaming appliance out the door and dump it in my driveway! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Good thing I did not try to toast them in my regular oven - I don't think I could have carried it out the door!!
  7. Richard Nixon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Yeh, but isn't it a good thing to be born in the morning? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
  8. I checked the Krishna Culture website and they still have it listed. I put the link below. They have both the main book and the supplement which elaborates on the main book and has other details. Krishna Culture page for Pancaratra Pradipa book
  9. I have JayaRadhe's mother's address and if anyone would like to send her family a message - please send the message to my email and I will put all into an envelope to them on Thursday. It would be a nice comforting gesture to her family. govindasgarden@cs.com
  10. One of JayaRadhe's beautiful paintings.
  11. This is why I was not able to contact her. I feel so bad - so very very bad.
  12. I am just not comfortable using something meant for the pleasure of the Lord for my own personal gain.
  13. The mudra described as being for weight loss is actually the Madhuparka-mudra which of course is to be done with the right hand only. (source Supplement to the Pancaratra Pradipa pg. 162). Madhuparka is a high class refreshment consisting of cow milk, yogurt, ghee, honey and sugar. Some sources say that madhuparka should be offered in a cup to the right hand of the Lord for Him to accept. (source pages 56 and 90 of Pancaratra Pradipa)
  14. I was just coming into this thread to post basically the same as you. I, too, went to my copy of this book to try and find the answer. I thought that mudras were only to be used in worship of the Lord. I have begun seeing books on the market encouraging people to use mudras for everything under the sun. I am also wondering whether or not there is any vedic authorization for their usage in these material gain matters! I am not convinced that this is the case. Sounds like a concoction thought up by some new age "guru" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif to prey on people's interest in eastern culture. It seems that to use mudras which are intended to please the Lord in such a fashion is akin to using sacred vedic mantras in hopes of winning the lottery or something. Or continuing to knowingly and on purpose performing sinful actions and chanting thinking that counteracts the sins. Offensive.
  15. I wrote also - I want to give this as a gift to a friend. Thank you for offering this.
  16. Ouch - that is bad! My mother was an atheist and very proud of it - let everyone know whenever she could. So she threatened to have me committed to an insane asylum! She did not appreciate it when I told her I thought I was already there. I moved out shortly after that.
  17. That is exactly what another devotee friend of mine said when I told her the picture story!!
  18. Thank you for the website and any others that you find to look at. You are very kind.
  19. That's a good one Madhav! Here is another: A friend of mine made a beautiful picture of Lord Krishna for me. I took the picture to my job and hung it above my desk. I watched people when they would come into my office and some would look at the picture and very quickly look away and never look at it again. Not even say anything about it! Some people never even noticed the picture!! This picture is 11" x 14" and was hanging in a very visible spot in my office with nothing else on the wall near it! Out of all the people that came and went from that office - only one person ever mentioned it - she said "Oh what a beautiful picture - who is that?" - this gave me the opportunity to talk to her about Lord Krsna. Most of the people I worked with were atheist including the one woman who asked about the picture. One of the people who looked at the picture and looked away was a devout catholic.
  20. I am not asking these questions so I can compare and pick a path to follow. That choice was made years ago. I ask because I want to understand the differences and similarities just as a christian might ask questions of a hindu or vice versa - not that they want to change faith or whatever but just to have more understanding and knowledge of the other. I have looked at the websites and the ones I have found are vague and obviously meant for someone who already understands. Perhaps you can suggest some sites that would be good to check out.
  21. My husband's mother is a huge Pat Robertson fan. She is totally into these evangelist types. Anyway, about a year or so ago she came to visit us from out of state. She wanted to check her email so I offered her my computer. Well, she walks into my office and just stands there and then says "No, I'll just wait." I thought she just did not want to impose so I pulled out my chair and basically sat her down and got her on line. I noted that she was sitting as far away from my desk as her arms would allow and had an extremely pained expression. I never saw anyone get off a computer so fast in my life!! She pretty much ran out of my office! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I really could not figure out what the problem was until I was sitting at my desk after she left and was thinking about the incident. I then realized that she was reacting to the various pictures of Lord Krsna, RadhaKrsna and Srila Prabhupada that I have on my desk and walls around my desk and on the wallpaper of my desktop. She was actually afraid of my Computer!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif None of us have ever mentioned this incident but she has gone out of her way not to visit us. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif She is trying harder to get my husband to go to church but she hardly talks to me at all! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
  22. Can anyone explain the differences and the similarities of Gaudiya Vaisnava and Sri Vaisnava? Also can you explain the different Sri Vaisnava deities, saints, teachers etc? What influences did Lord Caitanya have on Sri Vaisnavism during the time He spent in Southern India? Thanks in advance for any help with these inquiries.
  23. Thank you Madhav for your excellent suggestion. I will create a new thread right now for this subject.
  24. I have looked at the site and find it interesting - it is Sri Vaisnava site - correct? I thought this might be a good place to ask the following question. What are the differences between Sri Vaisnava and Gaudiya Vaisnava? (Some are obvious - deities etc) What are the similarities between the two?
