1. Our literal perception has already been suggested to be insufficient based on the Vedanta, as well as Tattva Sandarbha of Jiva Goswami and corroberated by Srila Prabhupada in his numerous purports of Shashtra. What we experience as literal is already questionable due to our imperfect senses.
2. I have always been curious as to why the other puranas are classified as tamas rajas if they are not Vaishnav Purana
3. With all sincerity, could this also be viewed vice versa? Durga Devi's alternate form as Subhadra?
4. Bija, I believe religion is going to have to play a "back-seat" role in world society. Conscious awareness (as the Vedanta encourages) will have to play the "front-seat" role. Religion is only as good as its role in developing one's conscious awareness. Oddly, there are some physiologists who support the notion of the development of consciousness in one way or the other, ie. ego-centric (modern-day trend) or universal (vedantic), as this lecture by Jill Bolte Taylor shows (her description of the workings of the left and right brain interactions are controversial yet she does a good job showing how these views are inherently available to any of us, we basically have to just tap into them): There are many religions which are based solely upon versions of "Genesis" and make bold claims that their prophets have championed God's cause. While there may be elements of truth to this championing there is also the notion of simply claiming to be a member of the group and not endeavoring for the dynamics. Religion really should be the last dish to serve, the first being (not to sound too cliche) to "question authority". athato brahma jijnasa, (Vedanta) kamasya nendriya-pritir labho jiveta yavata jivasya tattva-jijnasa nartho yas ceha karmabhih (Bhagavata)
5.
ksiram yatha dadhi-vikara-visesa-yogat sanjayate na tu tatah prthag asti hetoh yah sabhutam api tatha samupaiti karyad govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
"Just as milk is transformed into curd by the action of acids, but yet the effect curd is neither the same as, nor different from milk, so I adore the primeval Lord Govinda of whom the state of Sambhu is a transformation for the performance of the work of destruction." They are different and the same.
6. That is the dichotomy of Jewish blood and Jewish faith.
7. Some Guru's will be happy with a coconut and a marigold garland if only you'd follow the sadhana.
8. One way to understanding Krishna's Lila is to develop and place, above all, one's awareness of God's divinity. The perspective of the Raas-lila from one point is that Krishna was a womanizer who enjoyed the wives of others, and from another is that Krishna accommodated the wishes of souls to completely give themselves to Him at the risk of all sorts of derogation to both Krishna and themselves. The latter bears in mind the history of the Gopi's wishes, which date back to Rama's Lila. And this is what has been heralded as the Greatness of Krishna, His reciprocation with the love of His Bhaktas in the face of all derogation. Rama sent Sita to the forest, Krishna met the Gopis in the forest. Thus the Krishna avatar is special in that, for His Bhaktas/Bhaktins, He will break His own rules.
9. You'd really have to check this site out...http://dancutlermedicalart.com/AlbertEinstein%27sZionism/01EinsteinBeforeZionism.htm Yeah, its long and boringly educational but if you don't mind a little perspective and history its pretty good. Conspiracy Theory is all easy till we place the Human Element in the picture. How likely will you take up arms to murder your brother or sister human at the behest of Sharon types or Arafat types. There is an inner belief inside of these arm-bearers that justifies the violence. All the manipulators have to do is to tap into that inner belief. It happened in Nazi Germany, Rwanda, recent Mumbai, etc...Why would Arafat be an "unwitting accomplice" and not a fully agreeing member? This seems slanted.
10. What do you mean trust? I have a couple gurus in mind who can give you deeksha. Before I'd give you their names though, I'd like to know your trust issues. What is it you'd have difficulty trusting. What are your values by which you are searching out your guru? You can send a private message if you'd like. I think what I've quoted you saying is a great first step in your acknowledging that there is a detailed prerequisite in your search, and the people on this forum can definitely help, albeit with a little more information from your side. Good Luck.
11. Funny that you mention that Ancient Mariner. I've heard the "Masons" were behind it.
12. I respect your perspective. My perspective comes from the position that; we never know what the future holds for us. One never knows when the Lord chooses to end our earthly term. If Srila Narayan Maharaj were to be taken from this world to continue his Guru-Seva elsewhere with no notice given, our Ian will still be where he is. He'd likely still appreciate the current association he is receiving and continue to search for more of their ilk. When someone is non-receptive, a propounding stance generally is deemed offensive. May Sri Guru Gauranga have mercy on us all.
13. Its a possibility, although not a probability. Also in the essay, The Bhagavata,
14. Most stories in the Puranas also incorporated final rites for dead human bodies. There are many Asian cultures where the body is destroyed after life leaves. I am not saying this is authoritative; I'm sure there is capacity for this to not have been the case 100%. However, dinosaur remains have not been 100% consistent either and scientists are constantly finding newer information even displacing previously accepted theories. The Puranas also point to a personal embodied Brahma, Chandra, Indra etc. which will naturally lead toward a discussion of what the term "embodied" infers Puranically. I've heard before, that dinosaurs were a product from the previous Kali Yuga (attributed to Prabhupada). An interesting concept. Humans have constantly mysticized their existence and perform rites (samskars) for birth, death and the in-between. So far we have yet to acquire a "missing link" for our own evolution. On another note, from "The Bhagavata, Its Philosophy, Its Ethics and Its Theology":
15. you got it Mahak, glad I can be of service. It is saturated of fundamental philosophical truths.
16. As he said earlier, though, he isn't initiated and hasn't been accepted as a disciple yet, he is only very new to the idea of Krsna Consciousness. Perhaps there is an element of truth to Ian's understanding that Srila Narayan Maharaj doesn't prescribe Srila Prabhupada's books to all of his disciples. He was clear enough that this was his understanding although I persnally cannont say it is the truth or not. Perhaps if he decides to pursue Krsna Consciousness to the extent of personal association with a Guru he may come full circle again as bija said
17. Until the philosophy which hold one race Superior and another inferior Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned Everywhere is war, me say war That until there are no longer first class And second class citizens of any nation Until the colour of a man's skin Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes Me say war That until the basic human rights are equally Guaranteed to all, without regard to race Dis a war That until that day The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship Rule of international morality Will remain in but a fleeting illusion To be pursued, but never attained Now everywhere is war, war
18. I'm not saying its fine to kill or hoard. These are some of the symptoms of one who cannot see the good in the environment. And what will you ever be able to offer the "man from the Congo" who has experienced these sorrows. Will food fulfill his soul, especially after the tragedies he's experienced? It may sustain his body, but perhaps he will be left a hollow of a man regardless. The movie "7 Pounds" portrays this nicely. Only till we see the beauty in our environment will we be at peace. A great example of this in a negative way is the wealthy man at the top of Wall Street with the 67 collector cars and 10 homes worldwide and besides a wife, mistresses, who continues to siphon the blood, sweat and tears of the impoverished to support his blazing unquenchable lusts and greeds. So there are two extremes to the spectrum, let us know the spectrum itself and know that we are different from it.
19. The environment is friendly. Our perspective is distorted.
20. There are many teachers out there who are willing to give you a little this for a little that. What is it you want out of your relationship with your guru? Do you want good luck astrologically? More money in your wallet? A good wife? Here is something to start with
21. In India you can be both. Especially back when. He was a compounder. When Srila Sridhar Maharaj stayed with him during the riots of Muslim/Hindu division (maybe Srila Govinda Maharaj as well?) there were skirmishes where they were and he advised Srila Sridhara Maharaj to drop beakers of hydrochloric or sulfuric acid out of the 2nd story window to deter the rioters if they tried to break in. He definitely was into chemistry and compounded his very own products as well as retailed other products. So ... 6 in one 1/2 dozen in the other?
22. Just as much, I think it fair for you to say pseudo-Jews. My point is, and was from the beginning, that targeting Jews (along with Bankers) is very direct and I wanted to bring into that theory that there are others who stand to gain just as much, if not more, by war mongering, than some people who happen to be Jewish. The only thing that sets Jews apart is that their name is synonymous with both a faith and a race. It seems to me that in honesty, it is a class warfare. This world is a trigger happy world and it is easy to blame others. The Jews were blamed in Nazi Germany for odd things too. The link I posted has excellent documentation of the types of propaganda that come up and more surprisingly the power people give to propaganda (in which usually an incomplete truth lends power to propaganda).
