  1. Caitanya Mahaprabhu spoke: na sudrah bhagavad bhaktasthe'pi bhagavatottamah sarva varnesu te sudra ye na bhaktah janardane sat karma nipuno vipro mantra tantra visradah avaisnavo gurur na syad vaisnavah svapaco guruh maha kulaprasuto'pi sarva yajnesu diksitah sahasra sakha dhyayi ca na guruh syada vaisnavah vipra ksatriya vaisyas ca guravah sudra janmanam sudras ca guravas tesam trayanam bhagavat priyah "Those who have taken recourse to the devotion of Krsna are never to be considered as sudras but they are to be glorified as bhagavatas. Amongst all castes, those people who are devoid of devotion to Lord Janardana are sudras . A brahmana who is expert in the six works and also in mantras and the tantra should not be selected as a guru if he is a non-vaisnava. If someone from a dog-eater family is a vaisnava he may be accepted as a guru. Even if one is born in the best of families, even if one is initiated in all the sacrifices and is learned in all the branches of the Vedas, if he is a non-vaisnava he is unable to become a guru. Generally, brahmanas , ksatriyas and vaisyas should be the gurus of sudras but even sudras can be the gurus of these three castes if they are dear to God." ( Amrta-pravaha Bhasya of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura) It is clear from the words of Srila Bhaktivinoda and Srila Sarasvati Thakura that any Vaisnava, irrespective of his birth and caste, is eligible to become guru if he has the necessary adhikara. The transcendental diksa-mantras are not the sole property of a particular class of men. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has said that anyone who knows the science of Krsna is qualified to be guru. If one says that it is imperative that the guru must be born in a brahmana family, he has clearly not understood the science of Krsna consciousness and is therefore unqualified to initiate disciples. Try to learn the science of Krsna. As you progress on the path, you will find the world will be full of Guru just like the Avadhuta with 24 Gurus in the Bhagavatam. Receive Diksha from one who is dedicated to the service of Sri Hari, whose activities are centered around Sri Hari and who is enthusiastic in spreading awareness of Sri Hari. Gain entrance to the vast mercy of the Parampara system through sincerely receiving diksha.
  2. Yes, Sambya1, there is no relation between Guru and astrological remedies: In answer to xyz_1's question regarding how does one go about finding their Guru, the answer will, more-or-less, be universally agreeable like this: tat te 'nukampāḿ su-samīkṣamāṇo bhushjāna evātma-kṛtaḿ vipākam hṛd-vāg-vapurbhir vidadhan namas te jīveta yo mukti-pade sa dāya-bhāk "One who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisances with his heart, words and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for it has become his rightful claim." Bhagvatam 10.14.8 brahmanda brahmite kona bhagyavan jiva guru-krsna-krpaya paya bhakti-lata-bija "According to their karma, all living entities are wandering throughout the entire universe. Some of them are being elevated to the upper planetary systems, and some are going down into the lower planetary systems. Out of many millions of wandering living entities, one who is very fortunate gets an opportunity to associate with a bona fide spiritual master by the grace of Krishna. By the mercy of both Krishna and the spiritual master, one such person receives the seed of the creeper of devotional service." CC. Madhya 19.151 Essentially, Guru can be revealed to one who is earnest in being the receiver of the Lord's Mercy. Good Luck!
  3. Friend, I am sorry, your history does not go back far enough. The Jews began their first Aliyah toward Jerusalem back in the early 1880's. The Irgun came into being in the early 1930's. Many issues took place during that span of 50 years. From what??? Please do some more research. The Irgun was a militant fraction of the Jewish population. Many Jews condemned their activities, just as, I'm sure, many Muslims condemn Hamas' activities. The Jews who had martial skills were not trained under Stalin's Russia but were trained in Jewish Self-Defense Groups as a response to the Eastern European Pogroms (or Jewish massacres) or as part of the Allied forces. Many Arab terrorists (10,000 strong) and armies were trained in Hitler's Nazi Military or were highly supportive of the Nazi Party. This includes the "Mufti" Amin al-Husseini. Considered the father of Palestine and the elected president of the Supreme Muslim Council and also recorded as saying, During the "Nebi Musa/Bloody Passover" Riots, on April 4 1920, the Jews were attacked by Arabs chanting: "Kill the Jews" and "Palestine is our land, the Jews are our dogs". They still chant this slogan to this day. These riots were a protest to the Balfour Declaration of 1917. Haj Amin al-Husseini emerged as one of the leaders of the 1920 Arab riots in Palestine and incited the masses to murder Jews and loot their homes. While only in his late twenties, he became the youngest ever Mufti of Jerusalem in 1921, supported by the British. Previous to these riots, in Jan. 1919, Emir Feisal Hussein, the son of the ruler of Mecca was in agreement with the national aspirations of Zionism as he felt that it complemented the notion of an Arab nationalism. He signed an agreement with Zionists. Oddly, while Feisal was supportive of a Zionist cause, al-Husseini (who would later be an outspoken proponant of Palestine nationalism) insisted that Palestine should be considered part of Syria. It becomes apparent that fire is fought with fire.
  4. With all due respect, your point regarding Dravidian and Aryan Gods is arguably invalid. Reason that Dravidian Gods and Aryan Gods are a multitude of colors and not all blue. There are only certain Gods which have blue as their inherent tint. Generally, the adi-purush and adi-shakti aspects are deemed bluish or blackish. Hari-Hara, Vishnu, Shiva, Rama(more often deemed greenish but there are other interpretations) Kali Ma. Dr. Varun Suthra has a relatively conclusive argument. Of course, with regards to your disagreement regarding the sky's color, or the oceans color, this is an inspired vision which links objects to their source. (What came first, the mango or the seed?) If your question was purely rhetorical, please disregard my arguments.
  5. I'm trying to figure out how to make a poll. When I try, I get to the point where I click (make poll) and it tells me to re-enter the inputs into the fields. It is a never ending samsara . Anyone have any pointers? Thanks

  7. Religion, as it is now, is quite subjective. It seems to not as much be a source of harmony, but a source for dichotomy and polarization. Perhaps you can expand to show how religion will be beneficial for Dharti Maa, while irreligion will be detrimental. I will include the first two sentences in my opening query.
  8. This isn't a bad idea. Even a human voice would be good. I know that audio books are quite popular and this would be a nice addition to the present selection. Is there one of the Gita?
  9. Is it relevant or not? If not, why? If so, why? Religion, as it is now, is quite subjective. It seems to not as much be a source of harmony, but a source for dichotomy and polarization.
  10. Krsna is described as being blackish blue as the color of a fresh raincloud. This description, given from a perspective of His Janmabhumi (Vrindavana) indicates that his complexion reminded His viewers of the feeling of having their nomadic farmlands be quenched with rain thus providing life. Krsna's darshan is the life and soul of His loved ones. Bear in mind He is blackish blue like a fresh monsoon raincloud and is the life and soul of His beloveds.
  11. Yes, in ancient times, the death of a person was not a big deal. This is a universal notion, world wide, including Abrahamic Religions.
  12. What I was getting at was the question of whether or not one should be happier with mirrored warfare. Should the "Israelis" start suicide missions, should they launch relatively less powerful rockets indiscriminately, should they blatantly vow the annihilation of the "Palestinian" people? We seem to be in agreement regarding the terror of warfare. Where we are not in agreement is statements like this... This statement is arguably without substance. Do your history research not anti-apologist research. Yes, the people who re-settled in the area were fed up with being victims of world hate based solely on demography. They wanted the freedom and authority to defend themselves against hate and repression. The first wave of immigration happened back in 1882. In June of 1916 the Arabs wanted succession from the Ottoman Turk empire and to start their own nationality in sync with the Jews. Initially it was a harmonious and cooperative endeavor. Later there were skirmishes with differences. I can provide you details if you'd like. However, you can also find out for yourself. They deserve better. Both. If we didn't have impotent world leaders this wouldn't be happening. Israel has been asking for world leaders to come up with a truce which would secure them from these random attacks but one has yet to be offered and accepted. What we really need are capable world leaders. Want to apply for the job?
  13. An interesting bit of accusation of cultural insensitivity. The Babri mosque in Ayodhya suspiciously has the same accusation leveled at it. Oh, and I almost forgot, it continues to this day with the Taliban destroying effigees of the Buddha erected during the Ashoka period. Whats with that?!? I'm not saying to drop bombs but still ... Why destroy places of other's worship and erect your own on top? Is that a requirement of the Quran?
  14. The argument over who has rights to the land dates back prior to the Philistines and King David. There is some history which supports that they were in the area before the Jews settled there. Read the histories and you'll see that it was just as chaotic then (if not more) as it is now. The control over the land changed hands a multitude of times to date. As I said before, it is equally ambiguous as to who had original rights since there was so much conquest. The first "peaceful" acquisition of the land there seems to have happened once the Jews started considering the notion of Zionism and began purchasing land from the previous land owners in a mutually agreeable way rather than to kill the previous land owners. The rest is history, and now we are bombing non-combatants on both sides
  15. Namaste, You may like these: Kristina क्रिस्टीन Robin राबिन Levi लीवाई (lee-vaa-ee) Jacque ज़ाक़ (zaakh with the a as in all and a more complex (gutteral like) k sound. Take the first little dot away and it will be jaakh. There is no soft j like the French j in Devanagari) जाक (jaak with a more abrupt clean k sound and clear j sound) Brandi ब्रैन्डी
  16. Old Testament = Their Religion ??? the point I was making was that the capacity to commit murder is in each of us and it doesn't excuse the individual act even if it were part of a greater conspiracy. Each murderer is responsible for his/her actions, the conspirators, theirs.
  17. Either you fight with honor or you don't. You want to pick up a weapon and fight, you're naturally going to try to find a way to make it efficient. Some fire from behind a shield of children, and others drop BIG bombs to take out the whole variable. Historically, the very notion of Palestinian people and Palestinian homeland is equally as ambiguous as the Jewish people and a Jewish homeland. The wealthy land-owners under the Ottoman-Turk empire (not Palestinian nationality) sold land to Jews who desired to relocate and create a Jewish community which they can call their own. It wasn't an issue till the local serfs realized that this was a rapidly evolving Jewish community that they decided to create an Arab state as well. East and West Palestine were the two original names for the areas. The rest is history. Now, one group of people vow to extinguish another group at the cost of non-combatant's lives (including children). The other group is ready to establish its right to survivorship at the cost of the lives of non-combatants (including children) :pray:We can only pray for compassion:pray:
  18. War is criminal, friend. Indiscriminately lodging rocket attacks into populated areas just doesn't cut it to be called civilized and socially well-adjusted. I'm sorry, I just don't buy this philosophy. Would it make you feel better if Israel would place in writing, in its constitution, the goal to wipe of the face of this earth the "nation of Palestine"? Would it make you feel better if Israel sent random rockets of equal magnitude as Hamas into Gazah? Would it make you feel better if Israel sent suicide bombers into the Gazah marketplaces to indiscriminately kill men, women and children?
  19. Lotus, essentially it is the same as chanting one's bija and gayatri. You basically start at the second digit of your ring finger and move toward your palm to the first digit of your ring finger (not using the lines but the digit itself). You then move in a clockwise direction on each subsequent digit till you reach the first (closest to palm) digit of your index finger. This will provide you with 10 counts. When you reach your 108th count your hand will be in its jnana mudra for japa. Your left hand can be used to tally your counts. The other 2 digits of one's middle finger are not generally used to count on (you are one exeption). I've considered the mathematical efficiencies of counting the way you do it, but that was not the way delivered to me. I hope I've assisted
  20. I wish I could say I did, but I didn't. You're right, this is a nice way to put it. I thought of trying to explain it as well, but, as you inferred, the simplicity of it in visual terms becomes quite complex in spoken terms. I got this from a site called http://www.streamsofnectar.com Some idea for later though, eh?
  21. 22. Theist, as we become aware of our pure conscious state, we will be obligated to question all literal ideologies; that which is literal has its base in our mundane perceptions. We must search for the spirit of existence. As my statement relates to your question, it means that your query must need a metaphorical address. I only gave my answer to your second question. To your first question; prakata (Gokul) Vrndavana is identical to aprakata (Goloka) Vrndavana; (Goloka) Vrndavana is the ultimate center; (Gokul) Vrndavana is displayed on earth; Earth is now the center of the universe (said in a metaphorically literal way ). Goloka=Center=Gokula
