  1. I bought a newly developed crop lamp and you just turn it on for 2 hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. In this way Tulsi is getting sufficient light.
  2. These are good points - one can surely interpret a hososcope from material point of view and conclude that there are bad aspects in a chart. There're souls who desired in past lives to attain liberation from samsara but who were not yet free from material attachment and therefore were reborn to make further advancement on the path of liberation. After all isn't it like that that spiritual advancement often goes back and forth? In a horoscope we find this reported in 12th house, Neptune and Pisces. As soon somebody has betaken himself on this path to get out of this material universe and has made some slight advancement in this direction this is noticed in the horoscope as house 12, Neptune or Pisces. This information in a horoscope of house 12/Neptune/Pisces, that here is a spiritualy inclined person on his way out of the material world should actually not be taken as bad aspect but as easement to make further progress in spiritual life. In other words, for those who want to remain in this material world, house 12/Neptune/Pisces might look like a frightening "bad aspect", like "bad luck in materialism". Whereas those who are on their way back to the eternal kingdom of God, Lord Sri Krsna, consider house 12/Neptune/Pisces differently, as spiritual guidance from the Supersoul, Lord Paramatma. In this way it depends - for bhaktas there's no such thing as bad aspects in a horoscope except material attachment. Materialists of course are worried when a horoscope says, no luck in material advancement, no luck in gambling, etc.
  3. It is not necessary to cut so much on Tulasi when growing her in the Western hemisphere where we don't have so much natural sunlight. One can also offer the leaves in thought to the Lord and keep Tulasi strong by not cutting off parts of her body used for photosynthesis.
  4. This is right! Although there's for example New Radhadesh, "Chateau de Petite Somme", with Vaishnava University based in a 19th century Chateau in Belgium. There are presently around 80 people who live in the community, which was founded about 1980. New Radhadesh, "Chateau de Petite Somme" Next to this beautiful Chateau there's the Parlament of the European Union what has just recently passed a new resolution which reads as follows. The Evolution Theory of Charles Darwin is to be considered as scientific and can enter the schoolbooks of 70 mio students all over the EU. Did Chateau de Petite Somme pass any comment, like Prabhupada demanded, science=evidence? So far Chateau de Petite Somme only published the new pricelist for the guesthouse. http://www.radhadesh.com/index.php?id=14 "The Radhadesh guesthouse serves congregational members and guests. This makes the festivals, retreats, and daily spiritual programs held in Radhadesh easy to attend and comfortable to follow. 5. The book Dattatreyabalakrida by Sharangadhar (or Shrangadeva) poet is written as a conversation between Asit and Deval. This book describes the birth story of Shri Dattatreya in Badrikasharama in Tretayuga. source: http://www.ldss.org.in/datta/places/places.html
  6. Behind the facade of Communism we find the same as the New World Order, essentially a dictatorship of the central banking cartel. They made lots of experiments during the Communist era and apply this now on the West - not mentioning that it is all derived from Communism. The real meaning is this dictatorship, thinly veiled as "world government." All of the propaganda associated with social justice etc. is a ruse to hide the centralization of all wealth and power in the hands of this relatively small network of bankers and tycoons. This was the actual reason why Prabhupada stressed farming and self-sufficiency and to educate people to follow this example. Now we find the GM still repeating their slogan, that this was Prabhupada's tendency for introducing misra bhakti and vedic farming and cow protection has to be rejected as karma kanda. In other words, they reject Krsna when giving the example of taking care of cows.
  7. Lately there're often strange hints at broadcasts that modern science is able to produce life but never providing any evidence. Although Vaishnava Institutions usually keep quiet and never comment on anything there're some non-Vaishnavas who consider it worth to expose cheating. Stem-cell researcher guilty of falsifying data 14:27 07 October 2008 http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn14886 NewScientist.com news service A former member of one of the highest-profile teams in stem-cell biology has been found guilty of falsifying results, after New Scientist questioned the findings. Last year, the work of researchers led by Catherine Verfaillie of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis became mired in controversy, after New Scientist pointed to irregularities in their published results. Now an expert panel called in by the university to investigate has ruled that a PhD student on the team, Morayma Reyes, falsified data. Verfaillie's group shot to prominence in 2002, after publishing a paper in Nature (vol 418, p 41) suggesting that a rare type of adult stem cell from bone marrow – first isolated by Reyes – could give rise to all of the body's tissues. Such astonishing versatility had previously been seen only in embryonic stem cells (ESCs). The findings attracted huge scientific attention, and were seized upon as an ethical alternative to ESCs by self-styled "pro-life" activists – who oppose the destruction of human embryos to isolate stem cell lines. But over the years that followed, other researchers were unable to repeat the results. The verdict of falsification relates to an earlier paper on the cells, published in the journal Blood (vol 98, p 2615) in 2001. Less well known than the Nature paper, the Blood paper is significant because it describes cells isolated from the bone marrow of humans rather than experimental mice. Flipped images Last year, New Scientist revealed that figures in that paper documenting the presence of proteins in the stem cells as they developed into cells, including those normally found in cartilage and bone, also appeared in US patent 7015037, where they were supposed to describe different experiments. In the most disturbing case, the same image, flipped through 180° and slightly altered, was used twice in the Blood paper to represent the results of two different experiments. An expert panel of three scientists has now concluded that the problems ran deeper still. According to a summary of the panel's findings released by the university, parts of four figures in the Blood paper were falsified by manipulating the original images. For another image, the panel was unable to find the raw data. The university has now asked for the paper to be retracted. While deciding that figures in the patent were "seriously flawed", the panel said there was insufficient evidence of misconduct in their preparation. 'Inadequate supervision' The panel also found duplicated figures in both the Blood paper and another publication in the Journal of Clinical Investigation (vol 109, p 337) , but ruled that these errors were not misconduct. The Journal of Clinical Investigation has been informed of the problems, but the university has not asked for the second paper to be withdrawn. The problems with this paper were drawn to the panel's attention by Verfaillie herself, who is now at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. The panel cleared Verfaillie of misconduct along with the other authors of both papers. Still, Verfaillie is criticised heavily by the panel for inadequate training and oversight of Reyes. "I have initiated a number of additional oversight measures designed to further enhance the integrity of research and scientific publications coming from my lab," says Verfaillie. "I am confident that these measures will avoid the recurrence of a similar problem in the future." Reyes' punishment is unknown, as the university is not allowed by Minnesota law to reveal disciplinary action against a former student. She is now at the University of Washington in Seattle, which may also review the matter. "We would have to gather all the relevant information and look at our policies," says spokesman Norm Arkans. Reyes disputes the finding that she misrepresented data. "These were honest errors in part due to inexperience, poor training and lack of clear standards about digital image handling and proper presentation," she told New Scientist. Earlier inquiry The finding against Reyes follows an earlier inquiry into the Nature paper and another publication in Experimental Hematology (vol 30, p 896) – again triggered by questions raised by New Scientist. In that case, six plots prepared by another junior member of the team were duplicated between the two papers. An earlier panel concluded that there was no evidence of deliberate misconduct, but pointed out that the experiments were flawed, because the controls were not carried out correctly. The problems surrounding the Minnesota team's work followed news of fraud in research on cloned human ESCs by South Korea's Woo Suk Hwang. Biologists contacted by New Scientist worry that the intense competition in stem-cell biology may tempt others into misrepresenting data. "My concern is that this sort of thing will happen again," says Arnold Kriegstein, who heads the Institute for Regeneration Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Today, most of the excitement surrounds the ability to "reprogram" adult cells back to an ESC-like state. Unlike the Minnesota team's work, this process has been repeated by several groups. But some biologists worry that problems may emerge as other scientists jump onto the bandwagon. "When a topic is of great interest – not just to scientists but also to the public – it's certainly more likely that someone will get ahead of themselves and not be as scrupulous as scientists have to be," says Jeanne Loring, a stem-cell biologist at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. 8. Well I'm shocked, today the only politician in our country who cared for the people died in a car accident. Many rumors say they killed him, guess we'll never find out.Austrian far right leader Haider dies in car crash Alexandra Zawadil – Reuters October 11, 2008 Austria's veteran far-right leader Joerg Haider was killed in a car accident on Saturday near his home town of Klagenfurt, police said. Haider (right), who led the far-right into a coalition government from 2000-2006, made headlines across the world and drew international condemnation with his blunt anti-immigrant statements and for seeming to flirt with Nazi sympathies. The 58-year-old governor of Austria's Carinthia province died after suffering major head and chest injuries when the government car he was driving went out of control and rolled down an embankment, police said. He was alone in the car. Police said they were investigating the cause of the crash. "This is for us like the end of the world," said Haider's spokesman Stefan Petzner. He said Haider had been heading to a town near Klagenfurt in the mountainous southern province for a gathering of his family to mark his mother's 90th birthday. Haider, a folksy character who struck a popular chord among many Austrians, headed one of two far-right parties that surged to a combined 30 percent of the vote in a parliamentary election last month, potentially redrawing Austria's political landscape. Active in politics since his teenage years in the affluent Alpine country, he became a full-time politician in 1977 for the far-right Freedom Party. Haider caused an international backlash when he led the Freedom Party into a coalition government with the conservative People's Party in 2000, triggering widespread condemnation and temporary European Union sanctions against Austria. INTERNECINE STRUGGLE (Headline used to suggest Haider was killed by elements in his own party? Ed) The deal fell apart, leading to an early election in 2002 in which the Freedom Party lost heavily, followed by a remake of the coalition. After internecine struggles within the Freedom Party, Haider formed the breakaway Alliance for the Future of Austria in 2005. His new party became junior partner in the coalition government, while the Freedom Party left and went into opposition. But in a national election in 2006, the Alliance for the Future of Austria only just scraped past the 4 percent threshold to enter parliament. Haider also made headlines with several verbal gaffes and by making foreign trips to see leaders such as Iraq's Saddam Hussein and Libya's Muammar Gaddafi. He once reproached Austria's government by citing the "proper labor policies" of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany. On another occasion he referred to Nazi concentration camps in a parliamentary debate as "penal camps." Born in Upper Austria, his father was a former member of Hitler's brown-shirted storm troopers. His mother was a teacher who had been a Hitler Youth leader. Haider is survived by his wife and two daughters. 9. Well it's hard to judge upon things in the long run. My point is rather to see cryptically but not to judge. Could be that finally all comes out to serve the purpose of the yuga avatar. When Europe and US had this huge economic miracle and all of New York's street cleaners went to work with a brand new Cadillac, what was it? People simply turned more and more into godless sinful devils. Now they are forced to decrease sinful life and lament without end. But even within ISKCON there're splitted views, like, the rabbit hole goes very very deep and is never ending, just chant Hare Krsna and don't mention what you see, and folks like Gauranga Kishor: "I just feel sad when I see that devotees are in just as much ignorance about what is happening around them as your average American." http://gaurangakishore.blogspot.com/ Friday, October 10, 2008 Anyone who wants to learn more about this stuff can do the research for themselves. Here is a comment from a family friend who is involved in the foreign currency trade, someone forwarded him my post and this was his response. "Yes, this has been in the works for sometime and I had seen this video. Gauranga Kishore should stay away from this kind of information, especially on a Krishna conscious website. All of this nonsense is explained in detail in Srimad Bhagavatam and we should not be surprised. I have paid dearly for straying off of the devotee way and getting into this stuff. Prabhupada’s experience with the Gandhi movement and his spiritual master protecting him with superior knowledge is such an incredible example for us in this realm. This Amero is just the tip of the iceberg in this realm. Please tell him to not bother. What you focus on expands and in this realm, the rabbit hole goes very very deep and is never ending. It is ultimately very boring in relationship to the richness of KC." I appreciated this email very much, thank you very much prabhu for your wisdom. Yes the rabbit hole does go very very deep and it is all explained in Srimad Bhagavatam. And generally delving into such topics is just a distraction, why not just use every second of our time to hear and chant about Krishna and associate with devotees. That will guarantee us freedom from the horrible cycle of birth and death and at the same time it is the best thing we could possibly do to change the world. I just feel sad when I see that devotees are in just as much ignorance about what is happening around them as your average American. Mostly because we have been dulled by the same types of sense gratification that keep the general mass of society enslaved and docile. Which translates ultimately into a lack of Krishna consciousness, and which only serves to highlight the importance of increasing our Krishna consciousness. In the end whether you understand global politics doesn't matter. Krishna consciousness is the only solution. Many people are becoming aware of the problem but have no solution. We have the solution and it doesn't matter if one does not even really understands the problem, as long as we are applying the solution. Srila Prabhupada gave us the real peace formula. Right in the preface of Srimad Bhagavatam Srila Prabhupada acknowledges the tendency towards a world government, but points out the ultimate flaw in that it can never work unless Krishna is the center. God is the source of everything and because He is the actual source of everything we can create real peace and unity only with and God conscious civilization. Hopefully the insanity of all the lies, corruption, cheating, and mass murder taking place around us can wake us up to that reality. "When the world is overburdened by unnecessary military arrangements and when various demoniac kings are the executive heads of state, this burden causes the appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As the Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (4.7): yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamy aham "Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion—at that time I appear Myself." When the residents of this earth become atheistic and godless, they descend to the status of animals like dogs and hogs, and thus their only business is to bark among themselves. This is dharmasya glani, deviation from the goal of life. Human life is meant for attaining the highest perfection of Krishna consciousness, but when people are godless and the presidents or kings are unnecessarily puffed up with military power, their business is to fight and increase the military strength of their different states. Nowadays, therefore, it appears that every state is busy manufacturing atomic weapons to prepare for a third world war. Such preparations are certainly unnecessary; they reflect the false pride of the heads of state. The real business of a chief executive is to see to the happiness of the mass of people by training them in Krishna consciousness in different divisions of life. Catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagashah (Bg. 4.13). A leader should train the people as brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras and engage them in various occupational duties, thus helping them progress toward Krishna consciousness. Instead, however, rogues and thieves in the guise of protectors arrange for a voting system, and in the name of democracy they come to power by hook or crook and exploit the citizens. Even long, long ago, asuras, persons devoid of God consciousness, became the heads of state, and now this is happening again. The various states of the world are preoccupied with arranging for military strength. Sometimes they spend sixty-five percent of the government's revenue for this purpose. But why should people's hard-earned money be spent in this way? Because of the present world situation, Krishna has descended in the form of the Krishna consciousness movement. This is quite natural, for without the Krishna consciousness movement the world cannot be peaceful and happy." Bhaktivedanta Purports Srimad Bhagavatam 10.1.18
  10. "Many are blaming the global financial system for the current financial crisis and say that trust won't return until it changes." Since we are being kept in a situation of rumors and speculation where billions of dollars, in fact whole economies went, why not look for a reasonable motive where possibly the western cash flow was redirected? USA, European Union, Russia, Australia, South America, huge parts of Asia, all are facing a financial crisis. At least this is what the newspapers are telling us, billions have been lost. What makes lot of sense where all this money possibly could have gone is the present installation of a new world center, the reconstruction of the ancient kingdom of Babylonia, Egypt, Syria, Lybia, Jordan, Persia, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Israel, a huge new city build at Dubai, etc. All this to set up requires to withdraw almost all the capital from US, EU, South America, Australia. They might call it lack of economic growth but this is rather phrasemongering. The cash flow is syphoned off to another location and the bankers explaining at tv, we lost it. This is modern banking, why a banker should speak the truth? Are politicians speaking the truth? At least Chanakya Pundit warns us, don't trust politicans, they are in a precarious situation when it comes to speak truthfully.
  11. Thank you Madam, I also see the problem of what you say, "the things of what we have in the internet". Even esoteric Astrologers usually cannot properly deal with house 12/ Neptune/ Pisces. In fact ask any Astrologer who is not a Vaishnava, they cannot explain what is genuine spirituality. Not to pull out but to dovetail. Only in Krishna consciousness we understand how to dovetail. Someone might have what they call a blockade - House 12 - cannot work in any mundane business. But with the same House 12 situation successfully runs a global Krsna centered enterprise with 120,000 employees. This is only possible when understanding the difference between material and spiritual activity. But since for non-Vaishnavas there's no such thing as spiritual activity, they foolishly interpret, Pisces/12th house/Neptune as blockade, isolation and being locked away from enjoying materialism. "Educating" humanity with, "You're presently in a waiting loop and holding stack." Vaishnavas say rather the opposite, you're right on the fast track, overtaking line. The best position to make spiritual advancement.
  12. Yes, after having witnessed the deviant behaviour of the Vaishnava institutions there're many Hindus in US stating, only the cows in India are holy but not the cows in US. Fundamental Jainism seems the right answer to correct this development.
  13. Thank you Madam for taking interest in spiritual Astrology. Yes you're right a lot depends upon the decisions made by us, the parents, therefore we worry, what will happen with my child in future? What an ex-gurukuli writes today, see below, also supports your point that parents are responsible, cannot shift the blame to some other cause. We all want only the best for our children but as you see above as soon there is no solid spiritual community where our children can unfold to full capacity in accordance with their God given potential and also can easily develop exemplary Krsna centered families with everything required, I saw many Vaishnava parents sending their children to High School and University. Since you're asking this question what will happen in future, this question strongly depends upon what kind of education we are planning to provide for our children. Coming to your question of putting things into lay man term, Aditi's chart says that she became your child with this aim of becoming fully Krishna conscious within this lifetime. As soon you focus on this goal you will not require to understand Astrology in great detail but you will finally get full guidance from Krsna Himself who resides within our hearts, always ready to give us intelligence.
  14. Nepal declares young girl new living goddess 3-year-old will be worshipped as incarnation of the Hindu deity Taleju KATMANDU, Nepal - Hindu and Buddhist priests chanted sacred hymns and cascaded flowers and grains of rice over a 3-year-old girl who was appointed a living goddess in Nepal on Tuesday. <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qByr7J8rvbY&hl=de&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qByr7J8rvbY&hl=de&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Wrapped in red silk and adorned with red flowers in her hair, Matani Shakya received approval from the priests and President Ram Baran Yadav in a centuries-old tradition with deep ties to Nepal's monarchy, which was abolished in May. The new "kumari" or living goddess, was carried from her parents' home to an ancient palatial temple in the heart of the Nepali capital, Katmandu, where she will live until she reaches puberty and loses her divine status. She will be worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists as an incarnation of the powerful Hindu deity Taleju.A panel of judges conducted a series of ancient ceremonies to select the goddess from several 2- to 4-year-old girls who are all members of the impoverished Shakya goldsmith caste. The judges read the candidates' horoscopes and check each one for physical imperfections. The living goddess must have perfect hair, eyes, teeth and skin with no scars, and should not be afraid of the dark. As a final test, the living goddess must spend a night alone in a room among the heads of ritually slaughtered goats and buffaloes without showing fear. Father is sad, proud Having passed all the tests, the child will stay in almost complete isolation at the temple, and will be allowed to return to her family only at the onset of menstruation when a new goddess will be named to replace her. "I feel a bit sad, but since my child has become a living goddess I feel proud," said her father Pratap Man Shakya. During her time as a goddess, she will always wear red, pin up her hair in topknots, and have a "third eye" painted on her forehead. Devotees touch the girls' feet with their foreheads, the highest sign of respect among Hindus in Nepal. During religious festivals the goddesses are wheeled around on a chariot pulled by devotees. Critics say the tradition violates both international and Nepalese laws on child rights. The girls often struggle to readjust to normal lives after they return home. Nepalese folklore holds that men who marry a former kumari will die young, and so many girls remain unmarried and face a life of hardship.
  15. http://poligazette.com/2008/10/09/new-20-million-jain-temple-opens-in-india/ New $20 Million Jain Temple Opens in India Filed under: Religion, United States — Michael van der Galien on October 9, 2008 @ 8:30 pm CEST A new Jain temple was opened in California, the United States last weekend. Adherents of this faith share a belief in reincarnation and nirvana with Hinduism, but differs in quite some ways from it nonetheless. The new temple had a tremendously high price tag to it, $20 million. It is likely to attract followers, tourists and scholars en masse. The Jain religion originates from India, the first Jain families settled in Orange County, California approximately 40 - 45 years ago. They built the first Jain temple for worship in the United States in 1988, but replaced it now with a new one. The Associated Press described the new Jain Temple as follows: ‘The soaring marble-and-limestone facade takes up almost an entire block in this working class city and dominates a mundane scene of laundromats, auto repair shops and taco stands with its domed roof and gleaming, coffee-colored pillars.’ Where they built the first, simple, temple in 1988, it is now replaced by a building with ‘intricate images of instrument-playing goddesses, idols, elephants and flowering lotuses line the marble walls and ceiling.’ ‘The designs were inspired by two famous Jain temples in India, both about 1,000 years old; tons of Indian marble were shipped in crates over six months to recreate the imagery, paid for almost entirely by member donations.’ “You don’t see temples this size very often, even in India,” said Dilip V. Shah, president of Federation of Jain Associations in North America. “It’s so majestic. … This is something to admire, and it inspires others.” Ashok Savla, president of Jain Center of Southern California told AP reporters that one of the main reasons for the decision to build the new temple, rich in splendour, was that many Jains have trouble keeping their faith and traditions in an increasingly changing society. “In this day and age, there’s so much violence in our lives and here we are with a philosophy of nonviolence. How do we pass these values on to the next generation?” Savla said. “We need a place where we can have our children start learning the values that we all believe in.” Less than 1 million Indians practice Jainism, but the faith can count on millions of adherents worldwide, and approximately 100,000 in the United States. It teaches nonviolence and vegetarianism. The new Jain temple was opened with a spectacular party. Adherents to Jainism danced, worship and attended theater plays for 11 days before the dessert of the celebration took place: on Saturday, the new temple was opened. ‘The temple opened last weekend after 11 days of dancing, worship and theater organized by the 1,500-member community, topped off by a parade and sacred ceremony to install 47 marble idols in their new home. Twenty-four of the statues, which Jains worship, represent people who attained enlightenment through repeated reincarnation,’ the AP explained in its report about the celebration. ‘Together with its attached cultural center, classrooms and a planned 10,000-tome library, the complex will be the largest Jain spiritual center outside India.’ ‘The completed project will include 15 classrooms so that hundreds of children can take religion classes and learn Hindi and Gujarti to read religious texts, said Savla. Some of the classrooms will share space with the library, the largest collection of Jain writings outside India,’ the report went on to say. It is yet another sign of America’s tolerance towards religious minorities and their inherent right to practice their beliefs in that country. Jains have problems exercising their faith in a variety of countries, the U.S. clearly not being one of them. The new temple enables them to become part of America’s rich religious life and history.
  16. Japanese to build space elevator invented in Russia Yury Zaitsev – RIA Novosti October 6, 2008 Japanese engineers intend to build an elevator to deliver cargo into space. Japanese authorities are prepared to allocate $10 billion for the project. The space elevator is expected to cut the cost of delivering cargo into space and is considered one of the most ambitious projects of the 21st century. The Japanese plan to unveil a schedule for the elevator's assembly and commissioning this November. The idea of a space elevator is over 100 years old. Russia's Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the founder of theoretical astronautics, suggested building a tower thousands of kilometers high attached to some firmament in orbit. Steel, the most durable material of Tsiolkovsky's time, however, was not capable of bearing even a small part of the expected physical stress. In 1960, before the first manned flight was performed by Yury Gagarin, Yury Artsutanov, a post-gradate student at the Leningrad Technology Institute, using Tsiolkovsky's ideas, suggested creating a cable-guide connecting a spot on the equator and a space platform in a geostationary orbit at 35,786 km, whose orbit would remain synchronous to that of the location on Earth. Gravity and centripetal force would keep the cable, connecting the platform to Earth, constantly taut, making transportation possible. The time required for cargo from Earth to reach the platform was estimated at one week. Later, science fiction writer Arthur Clark wrote of a space elevator in his novel, The Fountains of Paradise, attracting attention to the concept. In 1999, NASA and its Scientific Research Institute included it in the list of probable tasks for early third millennium. A major problem in the construction of a space elevator is to create the cable, which must be extremely durable and light-weight. The durability of carbon nanotubes, invented in 1991, exceeds the requirements for the space elevator, with a far higher tensile yield strength and density six times less than that of steel. A one millimeter diameter strand made up of nanotubes is capable of supporting up to 60 metric tons. Still, the technology for industrial production of nanotubes and the weaving of strands into a thread is in its early development. Some scientists say the inevitable crystal-lattice defects could decrease the durability of the nanotubes. Even if flawless threads could be produced, the micrometeorites, cosmic rays, and atmospheric oxygen could still damage the cable. Space junk and the natural vibrations of the giant "rope" could also cause the cable to fail. Another problem is energy supply. Existing battery technology could not provide the necessary energy for the whole distance. This means that an external energy supply will be needed, possibly a laser or microwave source, which will require corresponding receivers to be installed on the elevator itself. Another option would be to use the elevator's braking energy on its way down. Let us assume that all the problems with materials and energy are solved. The cable weighing thousands of tons has been manufactured, and needs to be placed into space. There are no carrier rockets capable of doing this, which means the cable would have to be launched into space in pieces, which need to be joined somehow afterwards. Or one could drop down a thin strand from the orbiting platform and splice it into the full diameter of the cable. Neither placement concept seems any easier to implement than creating a suitable material for the cable. So far scientists have been experimenting in space with cable systems of up to several hundred meters long, made of materials which are far less difficult to produce than nanotubes. In 1965, Russia's Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, then called the Central Design Bureau for Engineering, led by Academician Sergei Korolev, was preparing the first ever space experiment with a cable system. The project involved creating artificial gravity on the Soyuz spacecraft, which would be connected with the carrier rocket's final stage via a steel cable, both rotating. After Korolev died, however, the project was cancelled. Development of cable systems was resumed at Energia 20 years later. A series of experiments with cable systems were performed within U.S., U.S.-Italian and U.S.-Japanese programs. Although some of them failed, part of the planned research was done. In recent years, scientists at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been researching the possibility of setting up a group of orbital cable systems to ensure cyclic delivery of cargo from Earth to Moon. Each system will consist of two space vehicles interconnected with a cable and rotating like a slingshot, with its centre of mass moving along a predetermined orbit. If one of the two space vehicles is "unclogged," the rotational energy released will cause its translational movement, like a jet engine. Theoretical and experimental research has shown that, to keep a transport corridor between Earth and Moon functioning, the design should include three cable systems, two in low earth orbits, low circular and elliptic, and one in a lunar orbit. Cargo would have to be transported between the three systems, eventually making their way to the final destination. Calculations have revealed that this kind of transport system would weigh 28 times less than the cargo it would be capable of delivering from Earth to Moon, while traditional delivery by a rocket requires an amount of fuel that weighs 16 times more than the cargo itself. This concept would be much simpler and cheaper to implement than a space elevator. (AP) — Former U.S. District Judge Howard Munson, who presided over trials involving tax protesters and an early Internet hacking case, died Sunday. He was 84. ... He also presided over cases involving tax protesters, Hare Krishna's soliciting at airports and the prosecution of Hells Angels biker gang members and pornographers. The 1980 Syracuse case was where the courts found the Hare Krishna's "engaged in systematic defrauding of the general public using a program they entitled "samkirtana." The Judge quoted Srila Prabhupada's books to prove that selling foot ball bumper stickers was not "samkirtana."
  19. Horoscope sites usually focus on what materially minded people want to hear, how to advance materially. For Vaishnavas this is of course just the opposite, what materialists consider as important is for Vaishnavas animalism. When in case of Aditi her chart says, deva, spiritually inclined, 9th house in Pisces, Saturn in 12th house, seeking to engage in spiritual activity only, Mars and Venus in 12th house, no interest in mundane relationships, the karmi astrologer says, she will struggle hard to become a good animal, no doggish mentality etc. In other words, karmi astrologers cannot relate to spiritual horoscopes because they're themselves animals seeking for advancing animalism. Since Aditi has house two in Lion and the ruler of house two, Sun, in Taurus, in conjunction with Moon, Moon trigon Ascendant and aspected by Jupiter, she will always have materially a save situation. And with Mercury in 10th house in trigon with Jupiter, planet of religion and auspiciousness, a very good intellect throughout her whole life. What do you want more?

  21. Amazing article, beautiful pics about Vaishnava temple construction in Malaysia. “I want a temple like this” - Srila Prabhupada BY: JANANANDA GOSWAMI <center> Penang Temple design </center> Oct 08, PENANG, MALAYSIA (SUN) — Penang, Malaysia was known as the “Pearl of the Orient” during British times. In Seberang Jaya, a northern corner of Malaysia, unknown to the world, Srila Prabhupada’s wishes for Malaysia are gradually being unfolded. In 1971 when Prabhupada made his only visit to this country he requested the wife of the then chief Indian minister to help him in building a “Temple like this”, showing her a sketch of a typical Vrndavana Mandir. Since then much has happened here and at present there are 25 small to medium centres in the country. Several have installed Deities, own their own property and have modified their buildings to serve quite a large congregation. There have been waves of brahmacaris although the number now around 15 is not at its’ highest. The grhastha community has swelled considerably - there are around 700 initiated devotees and thousands of others practicing. Namahatta has been very successful here. Many Chinese have also taken to Krishna consciousness. Although a Muslim country by majority, they are fairly tolerant, if not supportive of other groups and thus we are able to function fairly easily. Another programme which has really caught on is Rathayatra. This year alone there will be around 30 Rathayatras throughout the country. Still we have never been able to construct a custom built temple. Even on our own properties and we have quite a few of them, it is legally not possible at present to build more than a house or at best some community hall. The authorities have been very restrictive on non Muslim groups, making it more and more difficult for them to construct any religious buildings. We were even told by the Indian minister there is little hope for us to achieve Prabhupada’s will. However, minister or no minister, the pure devotees words never go in vain. Land Acquired <center> View of town from our Temple </center> One of our senior devotees in the Penang area of Malaysia, Kalesa das, happened to work for the local development corporation. In the year 2002, in the course of his work he noticed that there was a parcel of land sitting vacant which had previously been allocated for non Muslim religious purposes (a left over from the past). In fact there was an enclave of 8 acres - 7 of which had already been taken -one parcel of 1.1 acres remained. He made enquiries and found it was still available and the local government was open to applications. Although we are not a highly prominent group by numbers and many devotees thought we were wasting our time applying for it, Kalesa made the decision to apply, enlisting the support of one of our local branches in the area. Knowing most of those involved in the decision making process, he was able to convince them we were a worthy cause and the land was signed over specifically for the building of a Radha Krishna temple. At that time only a Chinese Buddhist temple had been erected - a Hindu temple and a Christian church were under construction. Out of nothing, all of a sudden we had this land - almost a dream come true. But there were no devotees or temple or money. The support of as many local devotees as possible was enlisted and slowly plans were put into place. Funds slowly came in and the plans were approved by the council for building the project in 3 phases. <center> The church, Buddhist temple and Hindu temple form our roof top </center> <center> Gopuram (entrance) to the Hindu temple already constructed </center> Phase One Phase one was completed in 2004, comprising a hall, kitchen, offices, seminar rooms, bathrooms and accommodation for guests and devotees. Immediately the building served the purpose of a Temple - we even had our annual convention here catering for 700 devotees. The Sunday programme grew rapidly and now around 200 devotees come each week. Festivals drew large crowds even though there were no Deities. A congregation based on this new centre had grown. <center> View from the north east of our present building </center> Plans Change In 2006 the plans changed - the whole design for the proposed temple was modified, the committee streamlined, a clear fund raising plan put into operation and now the next phase is about to begin. Gaura Nitai It was decided, even though the temple was not yet built, that we should acquire and install in the already existing facilities, the Deities of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. Sponsors were not hard to come by and early this year the Deities arrived, having been carved in Jaipura. Gorgeous 42” marble. A life size Murti of Srila Prabhupada from Ujjain also came. <center> Life size Murti of Srila Prabhupada </center> Installation Preparations Preparations were then made to choose the appropriate time. One devotee was sent to Mayapura to be trained on the Deity worship course. Others were primed in the standards of cooking and cleanliness etc. A modified Deity room, a new Vyasasana, altar, kitchen for the Deities, and a paraphernalia room were constructed. Deity outfits, jewellery, wigs, and many other items needed to be made or purchased. All kinds of paraphernalia had to be acquired. The date was chosen -Thursday September 18th. Srila Prabhupada would be installed earlier of his Vyasa Puja day. It was decided that the local devotees would do all the installation proceedings and no experienced priests were called in from overseas. Arrangements were detailed and the planning quite extensive with Simhesvar at the helm. As the time approached, Prabhavisnu Swami, Bhakti Vighnasa Nrsingha Maharaja and Bhanu Swami said they could not come, being committed to attend a festival in Ukraine. Bhaktivrajendranandana Swami’s (a Malaysian by descent) health did not allow him to come from India. Jayapataka Swami was thwarted at the last minute - his passport being unavailable. He was also tied up with a court case in Bangalore. Janananda Gosvami (me), who was not intending to come, changed his schedule slightly, or let’s say the Airlines did, and he turned up the night before in Penang at the end of the Adivasa. <center> Resting the night before the Installation </center> The Installation Despite all this, the proceedings went smoothly, and the turnout was beyond expectation. On the Wednesday - the Adivas - around 400 devotees turned up. Preliminary bathing, opening of Their Lordships eyes and other rituals were performed. <center> Opening of the eyes </center> <center> Abhisekha </center> <center> Bathed in juice </center> Then kirtan continued throughout the night till mangal arati with at any one time at least 30 devotees chanting. It is World Holy Name week so this fitted very well. The next day, Thursday, was the installation. Hundreds turned up for Mangala arati. The svasti vacanam (purification and invoking auspiciousness) began. Then sankalpas (solemn determined vows) followed by the chanting of the Brahma Samhita and other purificatory rights. The Deities appeared and proceeded to the Abhisekha kund amidst roars and tears. The yajna began - svaha!……. <center> Kalesa and his wife sit at the homa Yajna </center> Sastras were read, the kirtan resounded. The bathing began. The crowds swelled as the sun rose. In great joy the pujaris began with different auspicious substances. One could feel this was a great step towards fulfilling Prabhupada’s will. Hundreds came forward having sponsored the abhisekha to offer their kalashes. Just as the yajna was about to conclude Vivasvan (the Sun God), burst into the tent through a crack in the tent and headed straight for the homa kund (where the fire was) flashing about the pit. He then focussed in with a single penetrating beam on the very top of the kund, as the very last offering had just been made, blessing the event with his rays of light. The Deities, after being cleaned and dried then went to the place of installation. The crowds swarmed around the kirtan rose. To the temple and into the room. The crowd was far too great to get in - packed shoulder to shoulder to the altar - the curtains closed. <center> Entering the Temple hall </center> For the first time the Deities were being dressed. Many items for dressing had been donated and were now placed at the lotus feet of their Lordships. It took longer than expected since the Pujaris were a little unfamiliar and there had been no rehearsal. Then sankalpa (specific vows in the service of the Deity) and Prana pratishta (requesting the Lord to enter into the Deities) began. <center> Prana Pratistha </center> <center> For the first time the Deities were being dressed </center> Jayapataka Swami was to perform this, but he wasn’t there. Or was he? Modern technology came on the scene. One devotee was live filming the whole event and it was being broadcast live on the net. Jayapataka Swami was in Bangalore and at that very moment he tuned in to bear witness to the events. As Janananda Gosvami touched the Lords hearts with the Darbha grass and chanted the mantras Jayapataka Swami touched the hearts of the Deities on the screen of his computer and meditated on the mantras and the invoking of the Lords presence. Srila Prabhupada said ‘Utility is the principle’. The Deities name was then revealed - Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga-rai. The raja bhoga offering (lunch offering of food preparations) was brought into the small Deity room. The curtain began going back towards the audience further and further as the preparations kept coming. 508 came in all. Saks, sabjis, pickles, chutneys, breads of various kinds, rice preparations galore, cakes, soups, dahls, savouries, sweets of many varieties, fruits, drinks ……… <center> The raja bhoga offering... 508 came in all </center> Then with the kirtan and crowds growing and growing on the other side of the curtains, the anticipation rose. The conches blew. The moment all were waiting for was approaching. The curtains opened… GOVINDAM ADI PURUSAM roared like ecstatic thunder from the loudspeakers as their lordships Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga-rai revealed themselves for all. Then the kirtan just took off - the devotees were jumping spinning chanting at the tops of their voices - the drums beat loudly. Tears of joy were seen everywhere. On and on - the Yuga avataras are here. Dance and chant. Jai Sri Nitai, Jaya Gauranga rai. Jaya Sri Nitai Jaya Gauranga rai. <center> Ecstatic kirtan during the first arati </center> <center> Ladies kirtan at installation </center> As the kirtan went on the feast was then served. It was a work day for the people and although it was probably the last thing on people’s minds some had to move on. 800 devotees were served lunch - everyone getting sumptuous prasadam, including some of the first Maha prasadam offered. The programme continued till late in the night with Gaura Arati, more kirtans, lectures and bhajans. <center> Installation lecture </center> The next morning also saw a full Temple hall, for the first ever mangal arati for Their Lordships Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga-rai. That day was also Rathayatra in the same township, Seberang Jaya. What better way to glorify the Lord than Rathayatra. Throughout the day people were coming to see the beautiful forms of Their Lordships. We hope this most auspicious event will please Srila Prabhupada and speed up his will to build a “Temple Like this” In December this year - 2008- the ground breaking ceremony for the grand new Temple will take place and from there on the building will begin. Plans have already been fully approved by the local authorities. Sthapatis and Vastu architects have been consulted. The Temple will be octagonal shaped, with 3 domes and Deities of Radha Krishna, Gaura Nitai and (let us see Who). The devotees of Malaysia will try their best to finish this by the year 2012. The final phase will be a multi purpose cultural hall for dramas, weddings and public programmes. <center> Gaura </center> <center> Nitai </center>
  22. Racism might be indeed rather used for what we have globally as main reason for all these endless wars and frictions, annoying wars like sixty years of war between Palestine and Israel, and still people having no brain how to solve this problem. Although they suddenly have the brain to solve much more difficult problems. Jayadvaita must be fully conscious about so many devotees being enraged and he's even goading on this mood by announcing more editing. So either wolf in sheep clothing or whatever could be helpful for that purpose.
  23. Who's your swamiji, why don't you post what you consider as something full of real meaning? What makes you really satisfied? Article above says, "Vedic philosophy describes human body as the physical abode of soul", is this meaningless confusion? And, "accurately diagnosed the current crisis in human society as a result of imbalance in man’s treatment of matter and spirit", also wrong, meaningless? Be fair, all this depends upon who reads it. If you judge everything according your mindset this is rather very limited, narrow-minded, blinkered, parochial, picayunish, petty and hidebound - isn't an internet forum a global platform addressing all kind of people? Ok your name is something like only asking questions without providing solutions?
  24. Since there're lots of articles lately about the development that Hindu Indians having accepted office to manage the temples in the West and Westerners not even living anymore in the temples, the question might be asked if Indians are actually able to preach? Westerners want to be convinced, listen to lectures and only accept things when presented with logic and reason. This was never the case in Hindu culture, since thousands of years Hindus never felt the necessity to preach or present philosophy to newcomers. And this is what many guests after visiting a temple are saying, Indians cannot preach. Below Purujit das says something similiar, to preach is nowhere to be found in Hindu tradition. However, Westerners won't change their materialistic lifestyle unless things are presented with logic and reason.
