  1. "It is undeniable that Judeo-Christian beliefs have succeeded in creating more evolved and more civilized societies." /images/graemlins/smile.gif Dude, The Judeo-Christian beliefs have not created more evolved and more civilized societies. The civilized society that gives importance to life has been created in Europe by the Age of Enlightenment. The People in that era were sick of the tortures that were caused due to the "Judeo-Christian believers"... I put "Judeo-Christian believers" in quotations because they are not really Judeo-Christian believers... but used to think that they are. They were not intelligent enough to understand the very basics of their own religion. Why do I say this? because it is true and this could be seen after a little intelligent speculation. To abide by a book is ok, if it is done with some intelligence. I have seen many cases where people do not abide by "the book" and thus hurt not only themselves but also others in the process. My intention was not just to mock the quote from you above, but also explain that the so-called civilized society that is seen today is not done due to the Judeo-Christian beliefs but through intelligent thinking on the part of people who could think against the society at that time. In my view, the civilized society tries to conserve and protect the good and morality in all. A civilized society would understand that the reason for its growth and success not just lies in its efforts but also lies in the very nature it is in. If the society would understand that, then it would not only protect itself, but also protect the nature and its environment, and in my view this is not happening today. The society that we live in today (mainly the west and the middle east) has been abusing its environment and other species that it depends on.

  3. This guest has posted this message in another thread called "Monotheism vs Polytheism". I have posted this again as another thread. This has been done to bring his/her questions to light "Dear Govindaram, I am a student of religions, and I have quite a good knowledge of the three monotheistic religions, but, unfortunately, I don't know anything about Hinduism. I am very interested in the role of Mohammed according to Hinduism. Do Abraham, Moses and Jesus also play a role in the evolution of Humanity? Would you please elaborate. Thank-you very much." Please feel free to answer his/her question... Thank you

  5. In Hinduism, There is neither Mohammed, Moses or anything else. However, there are great philosophers such as Vedavyasa, Tyagaraja, Vasistha etc. who after much thought and contemplation about life in general claimed that they found the truth. So, they compiled one book called Veda... However, this book was very very difficult to understand for the next generation after them. So, Sage Vedavyasa, divided this book into 4 vedas. The word Veda itself means knowledge, the 4 vedas talk about mathematics, sciences, Medicine, Music and also the Philosophy of life. The philosophy of life is the final chapter in the Vedas, so it is called Vedanta. Anta= end Veda= Knowledge. Vedanta means, "The end of knowledge." It also has another meaning which is "The truth" because In hindu philosphy, the end point(where the knowledge leads you) is to the truth. These 4 books were really hard to understand also... because of the decreasing intelligence of the world... So, it has been said that the truth itself took birth as Krishna and has given the people "bhagavath Gita" or the "song of the lord". In the "song of the lord", Krishna explains the truth. It is actually a psycological class given to his favorite friend and devotee, "Arjuna". "Arjuna" was basically a warrior who was in a war for the good of his people. He was trying to protect his land and his people from Duryodhana (an oppressive leader) who took it from Arjuna's brother "Yuddishtir". It basically talks about the truth through intelligent evaluation of one's duty and gives hope, thats all. These guys however, make it a religious thing... Anyway, the point is I am a fan of krishna after reading Bhagavath Gita . In my view , he does make sense and he does talk about knowledge that makes sense logically. But thats just my view, and this was just an intro to "Hinduism". If you wish to ask more questions please... make this another thread.
  6. So! it does not really tell what sort of person you are... but it does tell what sort of person you think you are! /images/graemlins/smile.gif ! Thanks that just makes me feel better. If I get a low score - that would mean that I have very low self esteem. If I get a normal score- that would mean I am honest. (rajas) If I get a high score- that would mean I am full of my self. ----------------------- This test is only valid of another person who knows me better takes this test. Unfortunately, no one can be like that except krishna. The valid conclusion would be Krishna is the only person who is going to give you an accurate answer... But can't he do this with out taking the test? so this test is basically to fool ourselves! /images/graemlins/grin.gif Or we have nothing better to do (tamasic guna) so we take this test. But it is a very nice way to fool ourselves though.
  7. Here is what I got out of it: When the mind is misled by the external illusory energy, one becomes entangled in material activities. We are actually being "stupid" right now due to the external illusory energy. So, we are not linked with the superior nature. The superior nature of the living entity is krishna itself. When the living entity controls its mind, then it has no alternative but to abide by the supreme... in other words, you have no alternative but to be intelligent again and you have no alternative but to choose the actions that give happiness to not only you but to every one. This could be understood with an example: Lets say a person is diseased and is hallucinating. To stop hallucinating he himself should realize that he is hallucinating and take the "medicine" to stop hallucinating. When he has taken the medicine, he has no other alternative but to stop hallucinating. It is the same thing with this. So, when you "control your mind" in this case, you have no alternative but to regain your intelligence and realize your blissful state (position) in respect to the supreme being(krishna). So, I think you regain your intelligence, you don't lose it to krishna. ------------------------- This sort of explanation by myself was enough for me, but this may not be satisfactory to the philosophically inclined nature of you prabhu. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
  8. I wish I had a story to share like that, but Narasimha in my stories is the God that makes you fear him. For example, we used to go to a temple in India , like almost every year(This is not the balaji temple) . The story of this temple was that the stone itself became an idol. The idol was naturally formed and it was the idol of Narasimha. The people used to go worship lord narasimha there, but the devotees used to say that the lord is ferocious and very angry. The devotees also used to get chased by a tiger near by the temple. Then one day the priest said, may be he needs some one to calm the God. So, they basically made an idol of Sri Laxmi and placed it in the temple. They said that the moment they placed Sri Laxmi in the temple, the tiger disappeared. Anyway, still the devotees who go to that temple(it is on a hill) are afraid of Narasimha. They also have rumors that the Lord Narasimha there demands devotion. In some instances , our family people in India also had the same experiences. When I was very young like a 2 year old baby, my aunt did not want to bath in the holy water of the temple. She said that she bathed in the house and she did not want to do it there because the water is dirty and everything. Then, she went into the temple and basically when she got the prasadam, she saw the prasadam as all worms. She was going crazy , when ever they gave her the prasadam she threw it down. No one knew why... until finally she went to Lord Narasimha and basically saluted the image. Then miraculously the prasadam became prasadam again. She could then eat the prasadam and she didn't see the worms in it. I don't know if Lord Narasimha was the one who made her see all the worms in the prasadam or something else. But after she went to the deity in her fear , she basically got back to normal. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
  9. Why do some people react so violently? Why are they so ignorant that they don't realize the essential message that exists in Bhagavath Gita? I hope no "Karmic" effect comes to him though /images/graemlins/smile.gif
  10. So, basically what you are saying that the idea of self is imaginary? So, the self does not exist, but due to these "conditionings" it is seen to exist. So, everything basically is there to make something empty look like something that is not empty. Is this from a therveda tradition? I felt this!, I went to a website called Therveda "school of elders" and the meditational techniques provided there make you feel this way. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Unfortunately, this feeling does not last. Soon, the ego and all the conditionings in the mind take over. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

  12. Is this just a thought out of delusion or am I right? Whenever I chant the Hare Krishna mantra, or just krishna... it starts to rain! /images/graemlins/smile.gif Is this one of the "powers" of the mantra? or Am I just being a little superstitious?
  13. I keep my KC interests a secret for the same reasons... Most people are ignorant and are biased. In my view, it is wise to avoid those people. But in your case, I recommend appropriate action... and if it is a severe case of racism, I recommend police action.

  15. Woah! No thanks, I can't bear to watch him tear that guys skin like that. I will limit myself to be the fan of krishna and a aquaintance for Narasimha /images/graemlins/smile.gif
  16. Do you use some sort of exotic tantric mantras that heal people or is it just a plain old prayer to krishna?
  17. The beauty and appreciation of love exists in Bollywood movies. yes that is true.
  18. We used to sing it in schools often...
  19. Sare Jaha se acha! Hindustan Hamara Hamara... Ye bul bulle he is ki! Vo ... something...
  20. I think we need to let these people understand us better and make them feel like they are welcome to pray Krishna in any form - including churches, mosques etc. All we ask them is to chant hare krishna... When we know that krishna is the truth why be so harsh to people and tell them that their souls will suffer. Krishna will not make them suffer, they will suffer by themselves with out knowing their true identity but still... I do not think it is wise to be harsh . I think we need to welcome these people and show them that krishna is the truth by more sensitive means. But that is just my view and may be I am just a naive kid...
  21. We too have a swing like that! and I give it a swing when I light incense near the Altor. But it is very small though, the biggest pictures are of all grown up Krishna/Narayana .
  22. Happy Independence day to all Indians on this forum ! /images/graemlins/smile.gif
  23. They are there for quite sometime and it is a very nice tradition to have. Unfortunately, we don't do that here..
  24. Bliss and happiness is not in satanic cults but is in God. God exists and another name for God is Krishna. Yes, You are right, the salvation exists in No one else. Krishna consciousness = God consciousness. Follow your heart. God made you, you know him. You will feel "warm and fuzzy"(happy) if you see him. Well... then follow the heart. In my view, the bible tells the truth, but we cannot go only by the bible, we have to use our brains... think and follow the heart. the heart leads to love which is equal to God of Jesus who is also "Krishna".
