Hi there,

I think that I know a bit about how you feel! How about concentrating your energies into yoga and meditation! It's rather a strange comment for me to suggest, but just concentrating on deep breathing will help to calm you down (hah, hah)! Then get that bike out and also that exercise ball. After that, thinking about the fact that you are feeling a bit more motivated, enjoy your favourite vegan meal and go out for a lovely long walk! You've just come back from a lovely week's holiday and feeling "down in the dumps".

By the way a smaller plate will give you a smaller meal, so long as you also use a smaller saucepan. If you eat a little less and start your meals with a glass of water, you'll lose the craving for a little bit more food and the weight should come off ;-)

Also the less you eat, the more money you'll have in you pocket!! And start yesterday rather than tomorrow ;-) Give it a week and see what happens!

If it works tell Russ, but if it doesn't, he need never know how stupid his Mum is, mind you he knows that already, I guess!

Good luck, and if you smiled yesterday then that's a start isn't it?

Well, its very quiet here at the moment. Anyone have anything they want to discuss? I'm hoping some members are desperately wanting to ask questions but are too scared coz its quiet! ;-)

My "diet" is non existent at the moment and i feel like i may have put on weight despite becoming vegan. Has anyone else experienced this? I was hoping some of the excess weight would drop off as i'm not consuming as much fat. But i guess i'm still eating too much. Oops!

Plus i guess i am really inactive at the moment. I'm just tired all the time and don't seem to be able to find the energy for writing posts and emails let alone exercising. Does anyone have any tips for getting more energy? I'm really into complementary therapies and am thinking about using essential oils, chrystals etc but think i need some advice. I know its off topic but as its quiet i thought i'd ask.

Hope everyone is well,

Laura :-)

Hi Jo! :)

I missed you guys too! No, I wish, just a bit swamped at work & home.

Have a few big projects at work and then 2 different sales blitzes

coming up out of town to prepare.

*sigh*

In 3 weddings this year, Zak's in 2 of them and Robb's in 1. So

planning, prepping, showers, parties, etc etc I cannot believe it is

June already! Time flies when yer running non-stop. And oh how I ache

fer mid-August. The rush shall be over by then. Me hopes! :)

But I can't complain too much, with all that's going on, I'm still

managing to have a lot of fun too!

But it's wonderful to be here again, miss all the chats! :)

((hugz))

nikki :)

With each dawn and each dusk, we connect with the world in its time.

LeslieKay, my mother also recently found out she was Type2, about six months

ago. It *is* a big lifestyle change, and she had some difficulty at first, but

now it's all second nature, and she feels great.

So don't worry, you're going to do just fine! Humans have an amazing capacity

for adaption...take care!

Hi Maria... I used to live in Ft. Myers, and I believe a friend of mine

conducts a raw food potluck every month there. I'll ask him and let you know,

via

the group.

These people hold events in Florida frequently:

http://www.livefoodsunchild.com/

Also, a friend of mine recently moved from MA to Deerfield Beach, I think. I

know she's having raw retreats.. she might also do a potluck... she did one up

here in MA. Her website is www.alissacohen.com I think she just put out a

new Raw foods DVD as well. Check out " Events " .. I see she has a Thanksgiving

dinner going on in Florida.. It's not TOO far from you

Other than that, maybe Hippocrates Health Institute... I know they have

Thanksgiving raw dinners every year... http://www.hippocratesinst.com/

Lastly, I know there's a farmer's market selling a lot of prepared raw

foods.. it's in Coconut Grove.. I just don't know when.. I'll try to find out

from

my friend..

hey,

it isn't all that hard if you cook for yourself. mostly what you want

to do is eat a wide variety of things. for specifics, the vegetarian

resource group has a wonderful collection of articles about vegetarian

nutrition: http://vrg.org/nutrition/index.htm

i take a good vegetarian supplement that has B12 in it but doesn't have

mega doses of anything. that's been enough to keep me from ever being

anemic, even when i've been vegan.

i get easily bored with food too. i need lots of different types of

food to keep me happy. thai, indian, ethiopian, persian, etc. part of

what helps me, is that i sit down with my stack of cookbooks and plan

out the week in food. for dinners, i usually have in my brain that i'll

want something with beans, something with tofu or a fake meat, a soup

thing, a stew thing, a stir fry, a pasta or noodle dish, etc. for

example, this week's menu: dried corn & bean stew, risotto with green

beans, " sausages " and mashed potatoes, chard & onion omelet, and

spaghetti with corn & tomatoes. i'm not vegan, but you get the idea.

maybe i'm just obsessive, but i find that i eat much better if i take

the time to plan it out. :)

anyway, i'm sure other people will have some ideas for you.

Dear Joy,

Welcome to the list! I think you'll find lots of support here. As a group, we have many different reasons for our veggie choices, but share one very important choice -- to support one another!

Congratulations on losing three pounds in a week. That is wonderful! Be sure to check out our files for great recipes to support you in your eating choices. They are really fantastic. And check in often -- someone is always here!

My name is Joy. I am 64 years old, and live in Florida. I just recently decided to become vegetarian, because of my love for animals. I am working toward becoming vegan. I really need the group for ideas on food, and a diet plan, to be healthy also. I believe Vegetarians and Vegans are healthier.

I go to the beach a lot on the weekends in the summer. I also enjoy the flea market, yard sales, dinner out with friends. Now I have to become more aware of what restaurants are Vegetarian, and Vegan friendly. I lost 3 pounds in one week, just by not eating cheese.

Rhonda,

How about tempting us with one or two recipes out of your new cookbook. That

way we could decide if it was for us.... :)

At least it might encourage me if I liked the recipes, then I would probably get

your book. Thanks!

Hi Nick

I hope you get some answers. I know of gay vegans groups in the UK, but I

don't know anything about the US.

Good luck.

Hi Samantha

There is no reason that I know that a vegan diet should cause you to feel tired. Make sure you get enough iron from beans, lentils, dried apricots, and green veggies. You can drink orange juice at mealtime to increase the absorption of iron. Make sure you have a source of B12 and all the other B vitamins. Basically, eat a varied diet.

Good luck - and welcome.

Hi!

I have been a vegan for about 7 months now. I have been eating meat for 18 years and just stop everything cold turkery..no pun. anyways, i have been experiences a lot of fatigue. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you deal with it? I also have mono, but have had it since Februrary. My nutritionist thinks it may be because I getting a different kind of protein and told me to try and talk with other vegans and see if they have experienced this. Unfortunately, I have no friends that are vegan.

Thanks,

Samantha

Samantha;

I felt this somewhat at first when I switched from veggie to vegan.

What helps me is eating quite often throughout the day, as I wasn't

getting enough calories with only 3 meals (I have a high metabolism).

As Jo points out, a varied diet is the key. Plenty of iron and good

fresh veggies.

hello Sara & Samantha,

we have a friend who is very active in the Korean dog issue

she is always trying to get us out and about to protest or get petition signing

and we do from time to time

wonderful person

but she still doesn't understand what it is to be Vegan

when she first approach me and said they are eating dogs in Korea

I responded with they are eating lamb in Australia and pigs in England and cows in America

I thought it was funny

my point wasn't that I didn't care it was more to the point I thought it was bad to eat any animal

including fish which she still does

anyway

onto topic

there are a few supplements maybe you should take for the time being

Sara is right make sure your diet is balanced

raw vegies are better

use dips or dressing to help ya get use to eating them

Lifesprings Colloidal minerals

it is a liquid that contains a large range of trace minerals including iron

www.lifesprings.com.au

and Spirilina (for the b12) and a variety of other Vitamins

I also like to make veggie juice

carrots, celery, Beets, parsley, kohl rabi, turnips, swedes, ginger, lime,

talk about a vitamin rush lol

it was also pointed out to me when I first became Vegan 3 years ago that the body goes through a detox

for 6-12 months

maybe the mono is just a side effect

or it is just mono like symptoms

anyway all the best and stick with it

all the best

ok I just have a question the description of this group says that is

supports " a vegan raw food diet. Dont try to come here and promote

other diets " butter, eggs, salmon - none of this is vegan. If you

guys want to eat this stuff that is fine. But shouldn't we leave

this board for the purpose that it was meant to be for - for vegan

raw foods????

Denise>>

AMEN! I'll second that, that's the whole reason I hadn't posted again til

today because I couldn't get over how this list changed in the 5 or 6 months I

haven't been around...and i'm totally vegan and 95% raw vegan...so all the talk

of NON vegan diets here turned me off and was contemplating hanging around here

or not...

maybe everyone can get back on track of the reason the group was started...if

people want to discuss other raw items that aren't vegan then there's other

groups online for that...but this was at least under the description RAW

VEGAN...

I'm schocked at how narrow minded some people are. I understand this board is

raw vegan, however if someone is asked how they construct their diet or where

they get their protein from, are they just not going to answer? No one is being

forced to take on another style of living or pressured to use animal products.

Simply stating that someone eats such foods, should not intimidate or create

conflict. In other words, back off and stop being so tight about this petty

issue that is not going to harm you.
