In the preface to Major Barbara Bernard Shaw suggests that Christianity should rightfully be called paulinism, because it was St Paul who really set down the principles of the Christian religion vas a vis Judiaism.Should Krishna consciouness be called prabhupadism?

No.

Christianity is following the teaching of Christ not Paul.

Krsna consciousness is not a religion as you are using referring to it. Krsna consciousness is being conscious of Krsna within yourself, within others and everything else.

If you are looking for a particular focal point for the present Hare Krsna movement then I would suggest you look to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Srila Prabhupada was not a separtist and rightly saw himself and his work as advancing Mahaprabhu's movement which he inherited from his gurudeva Srila Bhaktisiddhanta.

There are also other branches growing from the tree of Mahaprabhu who are not directly connected to Srila Prabhupada such as disciples of other disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta. And other branches as well. All are connected to Mahaprabhu's tree and should be respected as such.

Mahaprabhu is the universal guru of the Hare Krsna movement.

You seem to be using the term religion as applying to the formalistic religion that westerners associate with the catholic church.Cant it be used in a more general sense to refer to EXoteric religion of this sort as well as to ESoteric religion, which would apply to KC, as well as to a reliigious movement like Sufism? To some extent one could say that Christianity has an esoteric dimenion in the Eastern Orthodox church as well as in the monasteries, but since the monastic tradition has largely died out this aspect of Christianity has been lost.

Attention to the theological basis of a religion/cult is often missing. People don't normally think at that level, or at all in fact. They are moved by sentiment, self-interest and cultural habits. Prabhupada has been questioned and criticized before, during and after his mission, especially by Indians in other Maths. Your point might be well taken if ISKCON were a true reflection of Prabhupada's teaching, but it isn't. Prabhupada absolutely did not want to institute a religion, but ISKCON has done exactly that,

calling the non-temple residents , "the congregation" and patronizing the Indian community with birthdays, marriages and all the accoutrements of priestly business.

It is not interested in making devotees as much as to accumulate a base of supporters whose primary dharma is donating cash.

Yes, it was Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu who walked throughout India establishing the dharma of the age, spreading the purity of the Holy names and the dust of His lotus feet.

The six gosvamis of Vrindavana wrote volumes of esoteric literatures on His behalf defining the sankirtana movement which will be carried into every town and village on the planet.

This is the source, and the method. It is unfolding before our eyes. Gaura has garlanded the world with the Holy names. Listen.

As far as my knowledge allows me to speak giving names is not so important. The word Vaishnav had to be there only for standard purposes (to measure the level of consiouness between different religion). Infact, everyone has a certain degree of Vaishnavism within him but rarely one is a Vaishnav.

A devotee of Krishna care only for the subtle relationship between him and His Lord.

maybe we should call Krsna Consciousness "Islam", because the very foundation of chanting the holy names (the simple, pure, and complete teachings of Srila Prabhupada) is a Muslim named Haridas Thakur who was never allowed into the presence of hindus. Lord Chaitanya placed all authority of yuga dharma in the hands of Srila Haridas Thakur, there is no comparison to the position of Haridas Thakur.

Could be that people are still having a hard time to understand what is the soul.

Devotee: “Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, do not understand him at all.”

Prabhupāda: Hear about the soul, for the general people, it is amazing. Still, in the modern society, which is so proud of scientific advancement, so far soul is concerned, it is amazement. Nobody understands, still. And those who are hearing about the existence of soul, some of us also in amazement. It is a mysterious thing. And even after hearing… Just like some student. There are many students, they are reading Bhagavad-gītā, which confirms from the very beginning the existence of soul, but still, Bhagavad-gītā they are reading daily, they cannot understand what is soul. Amazement.

To understand about soul is amazement. To understand about God is amazement. So Vedic injunction is therefore that if you are at all serious to understand tad vijñānam, that science, transcendental science… Tad vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet [MU 1.2.12]. The Veda says, “Then you must find out a bona fide spiritual master.” Tad vijñānārtham, if you are seriously interested.

Bhagavad-gītā 2.27-38

by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda

Los Angeles, December 11, 1968
