  1. Altho mercy is above justice as Srila Sridhara Maharaj has stated. I'm with MC on this one I see it as mercy to cut the disease out before it proliferates. When these world judicial systems are watered down the place fills up with worse and worse criminals who have no deterrant to stop their spree, if they can be seen to get away with it, others will follow. There has to be standards, no rules and regulations=anarchy, regardless of whether the place needs some wake up calls. When anything goes it's a pretty spooky environment to live in. No shelter for your kids creates animal society, to kill or be killed that becomes the question. Of course it may all be a reaction to greater injustice in a killers mind. Having said that I wouldn't like to flick the switch. I think there are those like Lord Yamas staff, who seemed to be cut out for the job. If the killing is justified then it will all be sorted out on the other side, in the highest court, where none of us get away with anything. Personally I don't think throwing a rock and blowin' hundreds of souls away is quite the same playing field, like in the middle east. If someone hada' mutilated Rupa or Sanatan it may have been a different ball game, we'll never know. Does this same law apply to Hannibal Leckta and his wannabe's? Also these criminals are not losing their life rather just the opportunity to fully pay their debts in this body, but they will get another chance in their next bod. and at least some of that debt is cleaned in losing one lifetime. I know Jesus example is higher than Moses teaching but that doesn't mean the law should be abolished otherwise the nature of the jivas here is to exploit the system and Lord it even worse over the meek and humble.
  2. This one really tickled me 1970:Trying to look like Marlon Brando or Elizabeth Taylor 2000:Trying NOT to look like Marlon Brando or Elizabeth taylor 1970: Practicing sadhana Bhakti 2000: What's the definition of Raganuga Bhakti again??? 5. [ Atma you sound like your rythems are fairy much in sync with a devotees life. We should be so fortunate, waking up to kirtan every day sounds like a dream. Tried having a snooze in the afternoon. Jayaradhe Those are just joyful little creme de mente jumpin'jamun eva greenies No master, ee right next t'ya in the smilies Nitai Gaur Nitai Gaur Well right now I recon it's arati time in Vrndavan.
  6. Did Jesus teach brother to kill brother? Did Mohammed teach to kill women and children in the Name of Allah? Did Gautama Buddha teach to eat and kill other sentient beings? Are they all unholy trees?
  7. Rakesh The general answer is as Shvu has given i.e. a vaisnava is a servant or lover of Visnu, for a more extensive answer. brahmananam sahasrebhyam satrayaji visisate satrayaji-sahasrebhyam sarvavedanta-paragam sarva-vedanta-vit-kotya visnu-bhakto visisyate vaisnavanam sahasrebhyam ekantyeko visisyate Out of many thousands of brahmanas, one who performs sacrifice for Visnu is best. Out of thousands of such yaj-ika-brahmanas, one who knows the meaning of Vedanta is best. Out of millions of those who know the meaning of Vedanta, a devotee of Visnu is best. And out of thousands of Visnu-bhaktas, one who is an unalloyed devotee of Visnu is the best. (Hari-Bhakti-Vilasa, 10.117, and Bhakti-Sandarbha, 117) Sri Caitanya Maharabhu said, "Whoever chants the holy name of Krsna just once may be considered a Vaisnava. Such a person is worshipable, and is the topmost human being. "A person who is always chanting the holy name of the Lord is to be considered a superior Vaisnava, and your duty is to serve his lotus feet. "The topmost Vaisnava is he whose very presence makes others chant the holy name of Krsna. He is superior to all others" Yes you can be considered a vaisnava if you worship Krsna. Then there are so many gradations of vaisnavas, What Jagat has kindly given is a very nice description of a paramahamsa Vaisnava one who is on the topmost platform of transcendental love.
  8. A Quote from Srila Prabhupad himself "Impossible is a word in the Fools dictionary" Guru is eternal, but what form will we recognize? There is no doubt in my mind that Srila BVSP is saktavesh avatara, but just as Jesus Christ taught eternal truths, that apply to any time and place in eternity, still it can be static if one doesn't dive deep into the presence of Jesus. And what if were to pray like Baktivinode Thakur to take birth anywhere so long as it is in a family of Vaisnavas, this would then make it possible for Prabhupad to be Jesus or vice versa (hypothetical) and then his teaching may be once again adjusted for time and circumstance. My own personal vision of Jesus is one of extreme beauty like Krishna, Everfresh and effulgent, the same for Prabhupad neither old nor bearded. Of course this would be a blasphemous idea in the pseudo Christian static conception, as they don't except transmigration of the soul. It's a fixed conception but Spiritual reality is eternally and dynamicly changing from wonder to evernew wonder. As I understand it doesn't much matter which boat of scripture one gets across the ocean of birth and death on, so long as it doesn't leak. So if we are now inspired by the words of Jesus and they lead us to the university of Prabhupads conception of divinity then we will somewhere in our consciouness give honor to Jesus siksa and his person, whatever form he be residing in at this time, whether human, demigod or eternal swarup. Our true conection is heart to heart, soul to soul, will to will. But the magic moment of initiation from master to disciple is a divine transmission of Krishna that can give us entrance into the whole family of our many glorious gurus and guardians. Altho they are never further away than the tip of your nose, at the same time it can be easily forgotten that they are eternally exchanging loving relationship in the Spiritual dimention, and that can be accessed with faith and dedication at any time or circumstance. I feel it especially with Prabhupad, as he had so much interest in this suffering quarter. Others may be more interested and focused on their relations in the Goloka or Vaikuntha play. I also personally feel this is why so many that are not even initiated to SP like myself, might still receive his dharsan in vision or dream as I have. Even tho I've only had brief meetings with him he is no stranger to me. Whatsmore I always see him in connection with my own divine master and his party. A true connection to one member of the Lords entourage is enough to connect us to all members. Hence "In knowing One, one will know all" similarly In serving One, one can serve all, in loving One, we can Love all. This is a deep subject prabhu, but in short YES. But it all depends on the hierachy of the party to whom you serve. This can change also, and so can your serving propensity.
  9. Boycott the world! It's just not getting it right. Poiticians salaries really press my buttons. I feel like Narrotam das Thakur. Should a' bin here yesterday kinea feelin, I seem to be outa'sync, where has that Great kirtan party gone? I'm simply left to weep. Maybe it's my French ancestors?
  10. JRdd, I wasn't copying you. I was just in the back room typing my post.
  11. I think it comes with older age I know many of my friends experience this. A lot of the time it's just an overactive mind worrying about money, the future, relationships, where I fit in etc. I tend to see it as mercy if it's not so extreme that you can't function the next day, so long as I can find constructive projects to do with my wakefulness,it's all a plus, because on the one hand I hate to waste time in the jaws of the great serpent. When I really start needing sleep I eat heavier at night, drink pure, hot milk if your body can handle it, and physicly exhaust your energy in the day, this can knock me out like a rock. If you get between 5 and 7 hrs it's plenty well enough, below this you are becoming insomniac. Just one more condition to add to the list of ists and acs. Some sedatives not to try hashish, opium, and boring company. Good hoppin' kirtan with a little valerian afterwards works for me. May you sleep in peace ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ My main problem is waking up!!!! If all else fails read my posts each night before you're about to go to bed.
  12. Who is a Vaishnava? Rakesh Dubey In response to the question who is a Vaisnava? by Rakesh I thought it might be appropriate to start a thread dedicated to this subject.Starting with Narrotam das Thakurs appreciation. thakura-vaisnava-pada, avanira susampada, suna bhai! hai-a eka mana: asraya laiya bhaje, tare krsna nahi tyaje, ara sava mare akarana. vaisnava-carana-jala, prema-bhakti dite bala, ara keho nahe balavanta: vaisnava-carana-renu, mastake bhusana vinu, ara nahi bhusanera anta. tirthajala-pavitra-gune, likhiyache purane, se saba bhaktira prava-cana: vaisnavera padadoka, sama nahe ei saba, yate haya va-jita purane. vaisnava-sangete mana, anandita anuksana, sadahaya krsna-parasanga: dina narottama kane, hiya dhairya nahi vandhe, mora dasa kena haila bhanga. O brother, please hear my words with rapt attention: the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas are the most valuable treasure in the world. Those Vaisnavas continually take shelter of Lord Krsna and worship Him. They never abandon their Lord, but they are liberated from the cycle of repeated birth and death. The water which has washed the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas bestows devotional service in pure love of Godhead. There is nothing as effective in attaining this divine love. I place the dust from the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas upon my head. I wear no other ornament. The purifying power of the waters of the various places of pilgrimage is described in the Puranas, although this is something of a deceptive trick. Actually, there is nothing which is as purifying as the water which has washed the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas. This water fulfills all desires. Moment after moment my mind finds contant pleasure in the association of the Vaisnavas. I always seek out the company of those devotees who are devoted to Lord Krsna. The poor-hearted Narottama dasa hakura cries, "I cannot maintain my composure any longer. Why have I fallen into such a low condition of life that I cannot get the association of the Vaisnavas?" (Prarthana - Narottama dasa Thakura)
  13. Agreed there is some sobriety, gravity and some inner-sense here. It seems AF is also connected well to the search engines, which helps bring a cross section of contributors to share their queries and responses. I think this is essential to share with the populous at large, and if sincere seekers can get some answers it is all worth while, at the same time it becomes a purifieing environment for all us. I too hope it can remain civil, and a place of sanctuary for the sincere soul. Mahaprabhu is no doubt pleased with Audarya consciousness. I'd like to see more Indians discover this forum and I was wondering if the change of name will effect that. I appreciate their input and perspective of things, obviously due to different samskaras than western born devotees. MC don't wurry bout the literacy level, wurds an' language are a relative concern it's wots behine 'em that counts. I think most fokes catch ya harts drift. I mean hoo cood be more archaic than that weird mob 'down unda'.
  14. In the state just up from West Bengal, Bihar they do a lot of dealing in skeletal parts for universities around the world. I've seen candid photos of them skinning the bodies secretly on the riverbank including babies and children. It's illegal but it is roaring black market. The story told that no one knows where the bodies came from. Bhihar is a very primitive state. Maybe they came from there who knows. Calcutta is considered the capitol of Kaliyuga, not surprising. I won't bother to go into Kalistan tales.
  15. "The learned and gentle brahmanas are rejoicing within" But this a good point Maitreya it can get so cold that ya gotta go within. I didn't want to suggest it cause I'm sure you probably have an agenda planned. But actually I was thinking that same thing, if not the south which would be really pleasant at that time, at least Puri and maybe Navadwip on the way back. Puri is truly a wonderland of Mahaprabhus presence, and from a health perspective is probably the best place to keep the bod. in peak condition. It's worth some consideration.
  16. Talasiga sounds like an interesting perspective Any clues on how to attain such vision?

  18. Even tho they're such pests I just don't know why I like those Monkey tales. Maybe I'm lining up for my next birth, God forbid. Still that monkey sure knew where the mercy was.
  19. Prabhu do you mind me asking where are you based?
  20. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and ALL things will be added unto you" Or water the root of the problem and the branches will automaticly be nourished. As Aurdarya and Jayaradhe are clearly expressing. If we approach it from the other opposite angle dissatisfaction can still remain like Howard Hughes who had all the material wealth one could desire, but still died a very empty recluse taking shelter in drugs. God loves us! if we give our attention to Him, in innumerable ways we will be consoled for whatever lack we may imagine we have. In attaining a devotional heart all our needs will automaticy be adjusted by divine arrangement. And on top of that the lonely old man may also find the True friend that we all need. All the great Vaisnavas in our line have drawn the Grace of Sri Laksmi Devi and more not thru courting material prosperity but in going to the centre of all wealth- material and spiritual, and then that centre reciprocates in kind. Have faith it works. I might say also if she already has a devotional heart then she can truly help relieve or fill the void of this old persons life, and if his motives are sincere he will help her material predicament. I've seen old people give everything, if they recognize even a glint of real spontaneous affection, I've also seen them donate their fortunes to animal welfare movements because they've lost faith in the human exploitative tendancy.
  21. Don't know much about any crying club, but it conjures up some rather bizarre images See what we can do to fullfill your request. I just had two not so much fundamental Wittnesses come to my door and the first thing they asked me was to read a passage from Revelations, which I was happy to do and went something like "And I shall dry up all your tears and they will be no more" They then asked what I thought about it, I started out laughing but after a couple of hours I thought I might end up crying by the time they left. My conclusion is that if you don't have the foundations, forget the rest of the house. Wow what a session
