wow and i dont say this in any bad way or something but it is so incredibly wonderful when older people (im 19 so anything after 30 is older for me) are vegan. it isnt so socially accepting for older individuals to be vegan and rare.

on that note,

i used to manage a coffee shop and one day one of my co workers was asking me if it bothered me to work with milk and i said "i just block it out, im not drinking it and im not buying it and we sell soy and other vegan products so i just try to not let it bother me" and then a man waiting in line to buy a drink came up to me and asked if i was vegan and i said yes and he said that he was too, he was probably about 60 years old. i thought it was great.

Jen - that is too funny. Actually I am not that old but of course if

you are 18-25+ you would think that 45 is old. My hubby is 9 years

older and was a widower with older kids when we met. I am realy

trying to matain my desires to be 100% vegan which is a challange for

me. Only because of the time it takes to prepare. I work full time

and own a small business that takes up a lot of my time so it is

hard. The restaurant I mention is owned by friend - of whom I walked

with this evening (almost killed us). But she is really a good cook

and I enjoy her food.

Hi Naomi... good to have you with us.*s*

So how do you manage to be a successful

vegan and not ever have to cook?

Do you live at home with supportive

vegan parents or perhaps a vegan spouse?

As you can see from the recent threads, we

do more here than just chat about recipes,

so feel free to jump in or start a new topic

on a veggie support issue.

Hi all,

I am just starting to learn about raw food. I have read Raw Family. I am

currently reading 12 steps by the same author. I am the homeschooling mom to 4

children. I am also an organic gardener. I guess it was only a matter of time

before the interest in raw food came. I spend so much time and effort making

sure no chemicals touch my garden. It just seems logical that I shouldn't put

those chemicals in my mouth either. Easier said than done. I am also interested

in finding other raw foods sites on the net. If anyone can send some links it

would be much appreciated.

Heh, I'm not from here. My husband is stationed here but, we travel

home every once in awhile and I can't stand the drive to MS which is

35 through Dallas then to 120. I hate it. I heard the truckers were

worse on I-40 though if you can imagine. So yeah, I don't like it

here much. Love strangeness and randomness. Thanks.

Hello fellow Australian

ok it is easy to be a vegan

it is hard to convince everyone you are right and they are wrong

and when it comes to being a vegan everything else is wrong

that may sound self centred but the fact is it is true....

where in Australia? I am in Perth

here are a couple web sites to ponder to maybe answer a few dozen of your questions

www.peta.org

www.notmilk.com

www.pangea.com

www.crueltyfreeshop.com.au

www.happyvegan.org

www.greenpeace.org

www.powerup.com.au

that should keep ya busy for a day or two

feel free to ask many question

we are all here to help

all the best

Most of the soy milks that I have seen contain evaporated cane juice which,

although it is still sugar, is not refined by passing it through bone char. My

understanding is that sugar from sugar beets is also not refined in that

manner, although cane sugar (not the evaporated kind, just stuff like C & H sugar)

likely is.

Kat,

You are correct, some white sugar is processed through crushed animal bones(

bone char). Some companies list sugar as Succannat or Florida crystals on the

label. Other companies will list as Organic sugar- Newnan's Own for example. I

just called the company to double check my facts. The organic sugar is

Florida Crystals and when they list powdered sugar the source is beet sugar.

Both

are vegan. When seeing just sugar on a label, I assume non- vegan. Hope this

helps.

Peace,

Laura in MD

Kat,

I've never bought beet sugar separately. Many kosher products contain beet

sugar as it's acceptable. I like birch sugar myself. You can get it in the

health food store. It's made by the same people who make " The Ultimate Meal " .

Good Luck in your search!
