what is the MasterCook? if I want to suggest a

recipe, can I just type it up? or will everyone

ignore it if it's not in a certain format?

MasterCook is a software database program strictly for recipes. Of course

you could develop your own in Access or another db program, but why, when MC

is terrific. You can can and import photos, too, which is particularly

helpful for baking.

For the list, you only need to type up your recipes using the MC format.

Look at how the stuffed onion recipe is organized, with the title,

ingredients, description, etc. and follow that.

BTW, I've been terribly lazy as a member of the list, and promise that this

summer I'm getting my rear in gear to submit my favorites. Shame on me so

far! Hope

hi, shannon! you'll find plenty of recipes here. if you don't find what

you're looking for, there's also a great vegan recipe site called

www.vegweb.com; you can find just about anything there.

welcome to the group!

The easiest vegan " recipes " for someone who states she

is " considerably lazy " are to just eat raw fruits and vegetables. I

always thought I had to be cooking something, but it's not true.

There is nothing wrong with just eating raw fruits and vegetables.

Of course, when I am wanting something easy to " cook " , I will throw

a potato in the microwave. I put vegan margarine (Earth Balance) on

it, some salt and pepper and since I live in New Mexico, some green

chile too. I live alone, so eating like this is not a problem.

When I do get the urge to cook I make enough for several days. It's

hard for me to cook for just one, so I always end up with lots.

This is not a problem, though, since I will either eat it up in the

next few days, or put it in smaller containers and freeze it.

Yesterday I ate a bean burrito. I had frozen the tortillas I

bought. I also had cooked up a bunch of black beans and frozen them

too. I found some rice stuff in my freezer that I threw on there

too and microwaved it. I ate it with salsa. Good luck to you!

Thanks to all who welcomed me and a big hi back.

The 1st site you mentioned makes me think of that Simpson's episode

where Lisa meets the " 5th level vegan " -- " I don't eat anything that

casts a shadow. " How dreamy! :)

I look forward to getting to know everyone and getting some good

advice.

Craig;

I actually don't work in any way involved with the casinos. I am a

biologist. To be honest, I am constantly shocked how few biologists I

meet are veg. Seems like they would be the ones with the inside scoop.

How do you like casino work? I am sure you have some pretty crazy

stories. Here it's a pretty good job once you get past being a drink

girl.

Really, Vegas is not that bad. It's certainly not where I ever

thought I would live, though. Many of my interests outside of work

(backpacking, etc.) are well served here because it is very close to

me sane.

I get that. I turned vegan when I was doing my biochemistry PhD, and

although the group was very good at picking veggie restaurants or

non-food-based christmas outings, I don't remember many vegetarians.

And I agree: it's hard to see animals as different when you work every

day with the knowledge of how similar we are.

Oh don't get me wrong, it is pure evil. The casino buffet food is

also pure evil.

I came here for my job and I've just had to get a bit philosophical

about it to manage to live here. It is most certainly not " my thing. "

Ah, the things we do for a great job!

I work as a biologist. All spring, summer and fall we are out in the

field all over the southwest literally getting paid to hike and camp.

We work really long hours in very hot conditions, but for me, it's

the ideal job. So, I can't add good thoughts about Vegas per se. Ah

well.

Hi Bruce - welcome to the list. I'm glad your lung condition is improving -

due to a lack of dairy products I expect.

Hello Bruce,

so glad to hear you have found the "right" way =o]]

I am reading a book at present by John Robbins Called "the food revolution"

what you have said is true but there is so much more

if you can get a copy I think you will be surprised how bad off the world really is

and how much the Vegan Diet will help with everything

I highly recommend this book

all the best

Bruce [asanamale]Friday, May 21, 2004 2:24 AM Subject: newbieHi. My name is Bruce and I live in N.W. Indiana. I was lacto-vegetarian for about 7 months before making the change to a vegan diet. I did not include much dairy when I was doing that.I became vegetarian due to health concerns and my health has improved.I am no longer obese. I have chronic obstrucive pulmonary disease and I am convinced my vegan diet helps reduce the symtpoms.Since becoming vegetarian I am now more conscious of "healthful" foods Vs. all the lesser ones, and I think about the plight of animals and other people much more than I did before. I do not think too many people will soon change to being vegetarian. This is guaranteed so long as so many vegetarians are obese.I am personally convinced that in spite of the environmental, animal cruelty, and enough protein for the world concerns few will change for those reasons. I think the best argument for becoming vegetarian is improved health...for some of us anyway. That is my own belief.Sometimes I just lurch and hope all are well.BruceTo send an email to -
