  1. I was lamenting that even while chanting the Lord's name my mind wandered from one mundane thing to the other so "what was the use?" The more positively incline bhakta said "well at least some portion of your mind is engaged in remebering Krsna." Helped me to hear that.
  2. chant Hare Krsna. Nothing muci actually reaches you anyway. If we just love Krsna will we be found to be safe. Hare Krsna
  3. I love stories like this. Anything that was once deemed impossible according to the 'laws' of mundane scientists that is proven by their own methods and puts them into a quandry brings a smile to my heart. Any clues from yogic lore as to how he does it? What is happening in the cellular workings that allows this?
  4. Regarding the Christian's Trinity, I believe it is called God, the Holy Ghost, and the son. Person in Krishna Consciousness accepts this by the name Visnu, Paramatma, and Jiva. God is a Person, the holy spirit or the supersoul is a person, and the living entity is also a person. Also, Mary is the representation of the energy of God. Either as internal energy Radharani or as external energy Durga, the energy of Godhead can be considered the mother of the living entities. But there is no clash between the Bible and the Vedas, simply some people formulate their personal ideas and cause quarrelings.
  5. Do we think our love is so intense for Krsna that we could inspire jealousy in Radharani????? From our position it may be better to relate to Radha from a kneeling position and then through Her line of servants. We are the puny little souls that at some point and in some fashion thought it might be better to try an be the Enjoyer of Krsna's sakti. Perhaps Radha will grant us some mercy and allow us some transcendental service to Her servants someday.
  6. I am more into public forums actually. They must have a conception that can fit into a small post. For instance is God ultimately impersonal light which at some point manifested Krsna or is that light simply an emanation from Krsna, His aura. This is what I am most interested in. Let's just look at some of the basics.
  7. I don't want to rehash the whole Iraq war. But I ask you to consider how many were tortured and killed during Saddam's reign of terror. As far as small pox goes, yes the US has restocked vaccines levels for our population if it comes to that. How about the rest of the world? Now consider the fact that a terrorist organization could do similar attacks in waves, simultaneously across the world. Let your imagination do the walking, the terrorists already have.
  8. address the scenario I illustrated.
  9. Run a search here at AF on lac from this forum and a lot comes up. We had this conversation about one year ago but I had forgotten many of the details. About 300,000 lac die to produce a kilo of shellac the article says. Yuck! -------- Found on google.Turns out shellac is not the bugs but rather a resin that the lac bug produces. Some liken it to bees and honey, this guy calls it bug poop. Also used for this is carnuaba wax, which is from a tree.So that wax on the apples and cucumbers may be of shellac or vegetable origin. They even use petroleum waxs. The reasons are: Shiny gloss to attract consumers, and to lengthen shelve life by preserving the water content. Also stops weight loss for maximum profit. _____ Do you Know what Shellac is? ITS BUG POOP! and 'they' KILL zillions of poor little lac bugs to get it! OH MY! -- The following article was written by Paul Ridden, of Animal Action, for the Vegan Village website - date unknown. Unfortunately, Vegan Village appears to be defunct. I couldn't find a Copyright for this article anywhere so I pulled it off Google and reproduced it - verbatim - here. I'll let the article speak for itself.... -- It's used as a coating for fruit and vegetables. It's used as glazing on sweets. It's even used in varnish. It's claimed to be a natural product, but what exactly is Shellac? You may not want to know the answer. Shellac comes from an insect called the lac (Laccifer Lacca). India and Thailand are the dominant producers but the US and Indonesia are the main users. Lac insects thrive on certain kinds of trees, the Palas, Kusum or Ber in India and the rain tree in Thailand. A 'crop' of egg-laying female lac (or brood lac) are tied to the twigs of the host trees. The brood lac can lay up to 100 eggs, which hatch into small red larvae and crawl along the twig and settle in to feed. Both male and female lac larvae insert their long proboscis into the tree and draw out the sap. While they feed a protective layer is secreted from their bodies, the secretion hardens and completely covers their little bodies, leaving openings only for waste products and for breathing. The larvae mature under the protective coating until, after about 8 weeks, they are sexually mature. Only the male goes through a full metamorphosis, developing antennae, legs, wings and losing its long proboscis. The male has only one job, to fertilise the females, who retains her mouthparts but doesn't develop wings or eyes. After the male has performed his duty, he dies. Once fertilised, the female increases the production of the secretion and increases in size during the next 14 weeks. Once the next brood females are just about ready to lay their eggs, they are 'harvested'. The brood lac and all the secretion are scraped off the branches and left to dry out. The freshly scraped shellac, or sticklac, consists of the secretion, the brood lac, a crimson dye from the ovaries of the brood lac and twigs. A number of live brood lac are collected to form the next crop, the lifespan of the lac allows for 2 harvests per year. Sticklac is then sold for processing. Manufacturers of shellac crush the sticklac and then remove sand, dust, and impurities such as the shrivelled insect bodies, the crimson dye and twigs. The remaining secretion or resin then undergoes a number of refining processes until commercial shellac results. The manufacturers then sell it on to food producers, who coat fruit and vegetables and chocolate and coffee beans and some nuts in it, to paint manufacturers, who put it in their paint and varnish and floor polish, to cosmetics manufacturers, to dentists, who use it as a mould for dental plates, and so on. About 300,000 lac are killed to produce 1Kg of shellac. Nearly 9 million kilos of shellac was exported from India alone in 1995-96 - my calculator won't even work out how many dead lac that makes! The UK imported 226,175 kilos during this period, which makes somewhere in the region of 67,800,000,000 dead female lac for one year's usage. So be careful when you go to the supermarket or your corner shop to pick up your weekly shopping of fresh fruit and veg, the produce in your basket will most likely be coated in shellac. Don't be tempted by those shiny chocolate brazils in the sweet shop window cos they're probably coated in shellac. If you're a DIY buff then isn't it about time you found out what exactly was in the paint and varnish you so lovingly splash on your walls. And what about your hair lacquer Mrs? And those tablets you're taking, avoiding capsules because they're made from gelatin won't get you away from shellac!?! And those rubber gloves? And the ink for your newspaper? And so on, and so on... ...take the essence...SP letter to Krsnadasa 1972
  10. We can be thankful that Srila Prabhupada spent his own personal time and effort in giving the western world clear definitions on what is the soul. We are the soul. We don't possess a soul, we are soul/self. And this is just the basic platform of what he taught. They are actually arguing that there is no self and yet we see there are titling themselves as Christian leaders. Real knowledge descends. It is not a product of the subtle universe which afterall is based on not knowing or non-knowledge. Mix it up as we like into a infinite number of ways and still no realization will ever be produced.
  11. This is intriquing. I have never heard of this. Could you elaborate JNdas?
  12. Dom, I am wondering how the Bahai's describe God and our relationship to Him. Do you know?
  13. The point I was trying to get to is that the grhastra ashrama is a God given concession to our lack of control. I take it there are no God give provisions for a homosexual ashrama. If there is perhaps someone can post a reference. One who is properly situated in his devotional service is to be considered saintly even though he may perform some nasty acts. He soon becomes righteous. Right? So I have been considering householders saintly even while I suspect they may be having sex for pleasure only and not for procreation. Have I been incorrect? If some ISKCON offshoot starts marrying homosexuals am I then to them properly situated as are hetero householders? I find this confusing.
  14. Found on the web. Also from Bob Beck. I would like to hear from some other sources. Very disturbing as I just bought a small bag. /images/graemlins/smile.gif -------------- The reason garlic is so toxic, the sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates the blood-brain barrier, just like DMSO, and is a specific poison for higher-life forms and brain cells. We discovered this, much to our horror, when I (Bob Beck, DSc) was the world's largest manufacturer of ethical EEG feedback equipment. We'd have people come back from lunch that looked clinically dead on an encephalograph, which we used to calibrate their progress. "Well, what happened?Well, I went to an Italian restaurant and there was some garlic in my salad dressing!" So we had them sign things that they wouldn't touch garlic before classes or we were wasting their time, their money and my time. I guess some of you who are pilots or have been in flight tests...I was in flight test engineering in Doc Hallan's group in the 1950's. The flight surgeon would come around every month and remind all of us: "Don't you dare touch any garlic 72 hours before you fly one of our airplanes, because it'll double or triple your reaction time. You're three times slower than you would be if you'd not had a few drops of garlic." Well, we didn't know why for 20 years later, until I owned the Alpha-Metrics Corporation. We were building biofeed-back equipment and found out that garlic usually desynchronises your brain waves. So I funded a study at Stanford and, sure enough, they found that it's a poison. You can rub a clove of garlic on your foot - a you can smell it shortly later on your wrists. So it penetrates the body. This is why DMSO smells a lot like garlic: that sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates all the barriers including the corpus callosum in the brain. Any of you who are organic gardeners know that if you don't want to use DDT, garlic will kill anything in the way of insects. Now, most people have heard most of their lives garlic is good for you, and we put those people in the same class of ignorance as the mothers who at the turn of the century would buy morphine sulphate in the drugstore and give it to their babies to put'em to sleep. If you have any patients who have low-grade headaches or attention deficit disorder, they can't quite focus on the computer in the after-noon, just do an experiment - you owe it to yourselves. Take these people off garlic and see how much better they get, very very shortly. And then let them eat a little garlic after about three weeks. They'll say "My God, I had no idea that this was the cause of our problems." And this includes the de-skunked garlic's, Kyolic, some of the other products. Very unpopular, but I've got to tell you the truth. Source: From a lecture by Dr. Robert C Beck, DSc, given at the Whole Life Expo, Seattle, WA, USA, in March 1996, Nexus Magazine.
  15. Bhavani, where does God say not to eat garlic? I am assuming you are referring to a particular scripture.
  16. You take out a thorn with a thorn Kulapavana. Another great saying: My enemies enemy is my friend. The US had to support the Mujahadeen (including Bin Laden) against the Soviets in Afghanistan. After Afghanistan there was Pakistan which included Karachi. The Soviets needed a warm water port in the area. The support to Saddam was really an attempt to stop the Mullahs in Iran from spreading their Islamic revolution. I am no blind patriot. But I am also not blind to the threat of Islamic terrorism. Do some more research on bio-terrorism and see how these people think. They teach their young in their madras schools that they have three enemies in the world. The USA, Israel and India. The idea has been discussed of using their "martyrs" in a slightly different way then strapping suicide belts around their waists. They want to first infect them with small pox and send them around to the populated areas in these three countries to spread the infection. They would not set off any alarms at airports and for days they would just mingle and spread the disease to others who would then become carriers and so on and on. They would kill millions and set off a world wide panic of proportions we can't imagine. They could easily have a hundred or more of these insane fanatics roaming around kumbha-mela infecting people who would then take small pox back to their cities and villages all over India. Think about it and then tell me it is an overrated threat. Once this happens its too late for a response against them. It is premptive strikes to crush them or nothing, and now or never. That is the reality presently on this plane. Just face it. As far as I can see Bush and Blair with the help of a few other leaders are the only ones willing to take them on. I could not care less if they make money on oil or not or if Bush had a wild life as a college student or any of the other stupid arguments the left wing comes out with. The situation is far too urgent for that. Take out the thorn with a thorn. So true. This will never be fully corrected in this age. Time to leave, or better yet spread the kirtan. Hare Krsna
  17. First I have heard of this. I'll have to look into this one. More info. anyone?
  18. even food items labeled as containing no animal products may not be vegetarian as they don't consider insects as animal. I am confused on this issue. Originally I was thinking carmine which they get from the cochineal bug for dyes was the same as lac bugs from India which gets used on produce. Now I am thinking they may be different bugs. Do you know Kulapavana?
  19. but the cheating propensity is not under discussion at the moment. What accomodation do the Vedas make for homosexual activity? Please provide some references. Hare Krsna
  20. individually we must all transcend all mundane desires for sure. But the grhastra ashram does seem to have some sanction from the Lord was as the others do not. Correct?
  21. I thought that a properly engaged grhastha was considered controlled.
