  1. Shashi ji, I am sorry for my previous post. My browser did not load the complete page. So, I did not realise that you had already given the reply. I clicked on the link 'Post A Reply' at the top of the page and posted the reply on your behalf.
  2. Rati to Shashi: So, what's your point? It seems he was objecting to your usage of the word 'irregardless'. The word 'irregardless' is not recommended in formal English. It is better to use 'irrespective' or 'regardless'.
  3. I agree with Maitreya. Maitreya???!!! WHERE IS HE?
  4. Do you know, what that person, who is suffering now, done in a previous time and place? Going by this logic, if I find somebody suffering, then even if I can help him, I should not; I should think that it is his karma. If I find somebody suffering, then why should I not think that I will be doing some good karma by helping that person? If something bad happens to a person because of his bad karma, then something good happens because of his good karma. Rather than thinking that the person who is suffering must have done some bad karma, why should we not think that we should do good karma?
  5. Shashi ji, You have used the word mite in your post. The word 'mite' means bug (a kind of insect). I really do not understand why you used this word.
  6. Let us consider a person who does not do what many others enjoy doing. Celibates are one example of such people. I agree that if they are forcibly restraining themselves, then it may be harmful for them in the long run. But, can we claim that they really are restraining themselves by force? Can't it be that they really do not find any enjoyment in such things? Scriptures mentioned about sages who used to worship in forests away and their life was very disciplined. Can we claim that the discipline was only show off and in their heart they wanted to enjoy all those things that they were avoiding? Can't it be that they really enjoyed following the disciplined life? Why do we think that just because we like something, everybody must be liking it? Improvement of technoogy is good. But we should not go on torturing some creatures just because we are stronger than them. This just shows our ego that we can exploit these creatures the way we want.
  8. Dear Leyh, What is your actual name? Is it 'Leyh'? I don't think so. This name does not sound like a Chinese name. When you drop a utensil, then it makes some sound. Chinese names sound like that. There is a joke in India about Chinese names: "In China, when a child is born, then some utensil is dropped. Based on the sound generated, the name of the child is decided."
  9. I have read about such incidents earlier also. Because of religious beliefs people do many nice things. But some people also do such inhumane acts that words fail to condemn them. There is only one way to prevent such crimes. Those who do such things should be killed. They should not be given easy death. The death should be preceded by so much torture that even the most cruel person gets terrified. This will act as lesson to others. It is said that human life is the best. But, when I read such news, I feel that humans are the worst creatures on Earth. All other creatures are far better. I really feel ahsamed that I belong to this species. We talk to world peace. So long homo sapiens are present, forget about peace.
  10. From Times of India (Bangalore edition, 2 May): - In Sahibganj district of Jharkhand, a 16 year old school girl was sacrificed to propitiate local goddess. She was also raped by worshippers as part of ritual. Manju was sacrificed by her neighbour Khudu Karmakar, a blacksmith, with the help of his disciple when she was going to watch a fair. An FIR has been lodged. Feku Shah, the girl's father, said that his daughter did not reach home even on the following day. Then he complained to police. On April 22, Manju's body with head shaven and carrying wounds were recovered from neighbouring village. After getting vermillion, red threads, and packets of incense sticks, police started investigation and conducted raids. The sorcerer and his disciple were arrested. They have confessed to the crime.
  11. In fact, the quasi steady state theory that I mentioned once in Spiritual Discussions forum seems to be a very strong candidate. This answers many questions that can not be answered satisfactorily by the big bang model.
  12. Often it becomes necessary in science that we have to make lots of assumptions otherwise we can't develop theories. But the problem is that often scientists make assumptions even if not really needed. This is what happened with big bang also. I remember having argued with many people if big bang was the beginning of time. My position was that big bang, if it happened, was just an event in universe and it could not be the very beginning. Definitely it was not the beginning of time. Most of Physics books that talk of big bang claim that big bang was the beginning of time itself. Now the question is, "Why did scientists believe that big bang was the beginning of time? Are there any experimental results that indicate this?". The answer is that there is absolutely no experimental result that shows that big bang is the beginning of time. In fact, big bang was a point of singularity. According to Einstein's general theory of relativity, all the currently known laws of Physics break down at singularity. So, no laws of Physics could tell what happened before big bang. They could not even tell if there was any 'before'. Then Physicists decided just to consider big bang as the birth of the universe. So far it was OK. But some went on to the extent of saying that there was absolutely nothing before big bang. Big bang was the beginning of time itself and therefore it is meaningless to ask what was before big bang because there was no 'before'. Many other physicists adopted this idea. This is very bad tendency. If we do not have anyway to know the answer to something, it is far better to accept that we do not know rather than making some assumption and thinking that assumption to be perfect and building theories after theories on that assumption. This new model is very recent. So, scientists are still not sure if big bang should be considered as the beginning of everything including time. My knowledge of science is very little. I do not know what more discoveries will tell, but my personal feelings are that universe existed even before big bang and that big bangs have been happening and will keep on happening.
  13. The theory proposes that, in each cycle, the universe refills with hot, dense matter and radiation, which begins a period of expansion and cooling like the one of the standard big bang picture. After 14 billion years, the expansion of the universe accelerates, as astronomers have recently observed. After trillions of years, the matter and radiation are almost completely dissipated and the expansion stalls. An energy field that pervades the universe then creates new matter and radiation, which restarts the cycle.
  14. I was very happy to read this. Often times I have read that big bang was the beginning of time and therefore we should not ask what happened before big bang, because there was no 'before'. But, it never seemed believable. According to two physicists (from Cambridge and Princeton universities), there is neither a beginning nor an end of time. They say the current model of the universe is flawed. That model starts with the beginning of time and the so-called Big Bang. The universe then cools and expands, and then in the distant future it will cool to the point when no stars are formed and normal matter breaks down. But the expansion is speeding up, and the current model does not seem to adequately explain why this is happening. The scientists claim their new model can account for this and other things that are difficult to explain. They say the universe is undergoing an endless series of Big Bangs, expansions, contractions and big crunches. There is no end of time and no need to define what existed before the universe was born.
  15. The galaxies are 420 million light years from Earth. So, the photographs takes by Hubble telescope show something that happened 420 million years before.
  16. Even if he has decided to stay there permanently, why can't he post in this forum sometimes.
  17. You are being bilkul 100% correct Mr AtmaJi. You have used the word 'Mr' though Atma ji is a female.
  18. Are you kidding or serious? I don't know why a temple should sponsor a fashion show. Perhaps, fund raising has taken all spiritualism away. Sickening. Theist ji is right. I have also read the news.
  19. Are you sure about that? I'm positive the Garden of Eden was supposed to have existed on earth. I was wrong. I read Genesis again. It is written therein: "...Then the God planted a garden in the East in a placed named Eden. The God put the man He made in that garden. ..."
  20. You are in for which plan? Attacking that world?
  21. Considering Rama came at the end of Treta and Krishna at the end of Dwapara, how can they have been the Sat-Gurus for their Yugas? Puranas say that Krsna came at the end of dwapara. But, is it mentioned anywhere that Rama came at the end of treta?
  22. Or, does any of the women on this forum enjoys staring at men? [This message has been edited by Avinash (edited 04-30-2002).]
  23. Do women stare at men? Can any of the men in this forum say if any woman has anytime stared at him? I wish I could use some icon to indicate staring.
  24. It is okay to be in this situation. No, it is not OK. You need to take care of yorself more than anything else.
  25. Jrdd ji, How is the treatment going on? You are very unwell. You have written that the situation might become worse? Don't your doctors have some way to cure you before the situation becomes worse?
