  1. I was thinking of now replying because the original poster has not clarified why he put this question in Spiritual discussion forum. But Pankaj has given an example of vocative case, so I thought of replying. When we are talking to somebody directly, then whatever word or set of words we use to address that person is called as vocative. We may refer to that person using his name or title or anything else. All these are vocative. Vocative is separated from the rest of the sentence using comma or commas. Example: - In Gita, Lord Krsna and Arjuna use vocatives for each other.
  2. I wonder why you have put these questions in this forum. Are your questions related to English grammar? Or Sanskrit grammar? Or something else?
  3. Suppose Rama had not hidden behind a tree. Suppose he had fought Bali by being in front of him and then killed him. Do you think that would have been OK? Please give your reasons.
  4. Depends on who is saying it? Is a male saying it or a female?
  5. There was a king named Satrajit. He had a very precious jewel named as syamantaka jewel. Satrajit had got it ftom Sun god. Once Krishna asked Satrajit for the jewel, but Satrajit refused. Krishna did not mention that again. One day, Satrajit's younger brother Prasena wore that jewel and went for hunting. In the forest, he was killed by a lion. Jambavan killed that lion. This was the same Jambavan who was with Rama in Rama's fight with Ravana. After killing the lion, Jambavan gave the jewel to his (Jambavan's) children. Satrajt made allegation on Krishna of killing Prasena for the sake of the jewel. In order to prove that He had not done any such thing, Krishna went to forest. While searching for the jewel, Krishna reached Jambavan's cave and found the jewel lying there. Jambava and Krishna fought for 28 days. By now Jambavan was fully exhausted, his body was weakened. Now, Jambavan recognised that Krishna was the same as Rama. Then he surrendered. Jambavati was Jambavan's daughter. Jambavan gave Jambavati in marriage to Krishna. Krishna took the syamantaka from Jambavan and gave it to Satrajit. Satrajit felt very guilty that he had made false accusation on Krishna. In order to atone for his mistake, he married his daughter Satyabhama to Krishna.
  6. Aanandah means happiness or better still, bliss. If this is what you mean by joy, then go for Aanandah. Zudhaata? You mean that word pronounced as shuddhataa? That means purity. If you are looking for a word, which means "whole and complete and nothing lacking" as you mentioned in a previous post, then use Sanskrit word "Sampurntaa". It is abstract noun. The corresponding adjective is "Sampurn" or simply "purn". But integrity may mean other things as well. If you have some other meaning in mind, then let me know. To drkpp, one sense in which people use harmony is in the sense of equal distribution of something. For example, if musical instruments make similar sounds, then we call that as harmony. If something is distributed equally among a group of people, that also is harmony. But there is another meaning. When we say some people are living in harmony, it means that they are living in peace with love and respect for one another. This is the most commonly used meaning. I think rjlinde is using 'harmony' in this sense. While giving Sanskrit for harmony, we should keep this thing in mind.
  7. Sorry. Not to offend anyone, but I don't think it is good idea to call such new writings as upanishad and puran. I haven't gone through the pragya puran. But I read some parts of pragyopanishad. I could not see it written anywhere that it is written by Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya. After many years, how will people know who wrote it and when? They may start thinking that it was written by Ved Vyas. And that will be wrong information. On the existing scriptures themselves, there is so much of controversy on when they were written and by whom. There is controversy on how much of these are in their original form and how much is interpolation. Why add to the controversy? I do not have any problem with the content of pragyopanishad. But, it is the word 'upanishad' used in its name that I do not like.
  8. You have written that samanvaya does not mean harmony. But I disagree. Let us break the word 'samanvaya' i.e. do sandhi vichchhed. Based on that, please explain why you think samanvaya does not mean harmony.

That living entity, on the other hand, does not understand himself or the Lord. He is covered by ignorance and is thus called eternally conditioned, whereas the Personality of Godhead, being full of perfect knowledge, is eternally liberated. <A href="http://srimadbhagavatam.com/11/11/8/en" target=_blank><B>SB 11.11.8</B></A>: One who is enlightened in self-realization, although living within the material body, sees himself as transcendental to the body, just as one who has arisen from a dream gives up identification with the dream body. A foolish person, however, although not identical with his material body but transcendental to it, thinks himself to be situated in the body, just as one who is dreaming sees himself as situated in an imaginary body. <A href="http://srimadbhagavatam.com/11/11/9/en" target=_blank><B>SB 11.11.9</B></A>: An enlightened person who is free from the contamination of material desire does not consider himself to be the performer of bodily activities; rather, he knows that in all such activities it is only the senses, born of the modes of nature, that are contacting sense objects born of the same modes of nature. <A href="http://srimadbhagavatam.com/11/11/10/en" target=_blank><B>SB 11.11.10</B></A>: An unintelligent person situated within the body created by his previous fruitive activities thinks, "I am the performer of action." Similarly, the sun is not at all attached to the water in which it is reflected within innumerable reservoirs, and the mighty wind blowing everywhere is not affected by the innumerable aromas and atmospheres through which it passes. In the same way, a self-realized soul is completely detached from the material body and the material world around it. He is like a person who has awakened and arisen from a dream. With expert vision sharpened by detachment, the self-realized soul cuts all doubts to pieces through knowledge of the self and completely withdraws his consciousness from the expansion of material variety. <A href="http://srimadbhagavatam.com/11/11/14/en" target=_blank><B>SB 11.11.14</B></A>: A person is considered to be completely liberated from the gross and subtle material bodies when all the functions of his vital energy, senses, mind and intelligence are performed without material desire. 11. Hi, The test works. I looked into the source html of this post of yours i.e. the test post and also of the first post in this thread. In the test post, you have provided href for link as href="http://srimadbhagavatam.com/11/11/1/en". But in the first post in this thread, you have not provided any href.
  12. First of all, let me thank you for anwering the survey questions. In the current post, I am giving translations in Roman script itself. Later, I will provide in Devanagari script (the script that is used when writing in Sanskrit):- Inspiration: - Prerana Love: - You have written haryata. But love in Sanskrit is Prema. Haryata is from root word harya, which means movement. Peace: - You have written bhayam. But that means fear. Peace in Sanskrit is Shaanti. Beauty: - Saundarya. You wrote rupa. Rupa means looks. It can be beautiful or ugly. Prosperity: - Aishwarya. I can understand why you wrote Radha. Radha is Goddess. In the scriptures of Hinduism, She is often mentioned as the giver of prosperity. But still it will be wrong to say that proeperity in Sanskrit is Radha. As an analogy, there are many christians whose native language is English and they consider Jesus as God. It does not mean that God in English is Jesus. Courage: - You are right. Dhairya means courage. But dhairya means patience also. In fact, it is more commonly used for patience than for courage. A more precise word would be saahas. Integrity: - The word integrity is used to mean many things. Some meanings are dedication, ethics, sincerity, honesty, wholeness etc. Let me know what meaning you are talking about. Then I can provide the translation. Harmony: - saamanvaya
  13. First you say: - Then you say: - Your argument is that we should not try to protect bulls because Lord Shiva will protect them. By the same argument, one can say that we should not try to protect cows because Lord Krsna will protect them. Yes, they do not give milk. But so what? Many other beings do not give milk as well? In fact, no male gives milk. Does it mean no male should ever be protected? If so, I am really afraid. I am a male. Even cows have taken birth in this material world. In a later post you wrote that Krsna can produce a calf only with His glance. I can as well say that he can keep a calf alive just by His glance. You are using the word cow in figurative sense here. Nothing wrong in this. But this thread did not originate with the usage of cows and bulls in figurative sense. Why change the topic? Note: - Please clarify how your post is relevant to the first post in this thread.
  14. When you go to the home page of this site http://www.audarya-fellowship.com , then you will see one forum named Vedic Astrology. I think lots of people who visit that forum will be happy to know about you. So, please make a post there.
  15. Let me know the pronunciations of these and I can translate. I think Kayleigh is pronounced as kaylee where kay is pronounced like English letter K is pronounced. Not sure about Ann. Is it like word 'an'? And what about louise? Is it like Lewis?
  16. According to you, killing a baby is not an issue at all. When people harm their arms and legs, then they are harming their body parts. But when they kill a foetus, they are killing life (that life is not theirs but somebody else's).
  17. As you yourself said, it was a demon. It does not mean that krsna is against all bulls. Krsna killed Putana, who was a lady. Does it mean Krsna is against all ladies?
  18. Many things are sacred. Some of them are 1. sciptures of Hinduism including their contents 2. OM or more accurately AUM (a sacred syllable). AUM appears very often in scriptures. So, the point 1 above includes AUM also. But AUM is so sacred that I decided to mention it separately. 3. Swastika - a sacred symbol 4. Cow 5. Some rivers - mostly Ganga i.e. the river Ganges 6. Places of worship (temples) 7. Places of pilgrimage e.g. Kashi, Vrindavan, Pushkar and many others. These are only some. There are many more sacred things in Hinduism. I did not understand exactly what you mean by profane. Are you asking about words, which are considered profane? Or, are you asking about acts? Or, something else? Yes, there are rituals performed when a child is born. But not all hindus perform the rituals the same way.
  19. WOW, same name as mine :-) Anyway, here is Avinash in Hindi:-
  20. In the following, the first is Kay, second Scott and third Ashley.
  21. When you want to write a word in Devanagari, then pronunciation is important and not spelling. If you say kayleigh, kayley, kaylee the same way, then Devanagari for these is also the same. It is the same as I gave earlier for kay-lee. As you mentioned, you say all these the same way. Therefore, what I gave for kay-lee in a previous post is the same as what you want for kayleigh. So, use that. That is the one you want.
  22. If leigh in kayleigh is pronounced like lee, then kayleigh in Devanagari is the same as I gave a few posts earlier (for kay-lee). But if leigh is not pronounced like lee, then let me know how it is pronounced.
  23. I checked that. It gives the same result. But I liked this better than using the exe. The timing of breaking the fast, as I checked, is between 07:10 Am and 10:07 AM in this part of the world (Bangalore). Read once in Padma-Purana that there is some kind of ekadashi on which you should not fast. I was first wondering if today's ekadashi is one of those. But, when I searched Net, then I found that fasting should be observed today.
  24. I guess kay is pronounced as say, with k in place of s. Right? But what about leigh? Before you another poster asked for Devanagari of kayleigh and said that kayleigh is pronounced as kay-lee.
  25. Today is Rama ekadashi. Yesternight, at around 10, I took dinner. After than till now I haven't eaten anything at all - not even a single grain. Also, I haven't taken a drop of water. I will break fast tomorrow morning. I checked the timings. As per Vedic calendal, I can break fast tomorrow morning between 7:10 AM and 10:07 AM. So, I will break fast only at that time. I am not finding any difficulty in keeping the fasting and carrying on my work as usual.
