First Of All Let Them Prove Their Theory
suchandra replied to suchandra's topic in Spiritual Discussions
It is also the common understanding of Western religionists that there's "biological life", i.e. life without a soul. Therefore you find almost all leaders of present religions eating meat of killed animals, they advance the view that animals have no soul but are "alive" by chemical interaction. Next when it comes to the human soul, almost all religions in the West say, the soul began at birth and when you don't join their religious believe your soul is destroyed when you die. All this cannot be proven are claims that cannot be verified and completely contradict the teachings of the Vedas. But still people accept. Soul and the Person: Defining Life by Richard Gist http://www.religion-online.org/showarticle.asp?title=1701 Mr. Gist (second from left) is pastor of the United Methodist Church in Corcoran, Minnesota. This article appeared in the Christian Century, October 14, pp. 1022-1024. Copyright by The Christian Century Foundation; used by permission. This material was prepared for Religion Online by Ted and Winnie Brock. <hr> On an issue as important as abortion, I want a definition of life that includes the wisdom and understanding of my Christian faith. So far, I have been disappointed. I doubt that I am the only one. Life is being defined biologically, in terms of beating hearts and pulsing brainwaves. Cows, too, exhibit these requisite energies, and in some sense bovine life is sacred, possessing that unfathomable plus that nudges protoplasm and electrical energy into life. Yet I enjoy a good steak, and even more frequently, a hamburger. Someone will respond, "The issue is human life. People have souls; that is the big difference." But what is soul and what is the difference? In Genesis 2:7we read of Adam’s arrival, "and man became a living soul" (KJV). The Hebrew term, nephesh chayyah, translated "living soul," is the same expression used of the animals in 2:19.The life principle, the nephesh chayyah, fills all of the life. All creatures have soul. If a steer defended himself -- and when you are arguing the value of your life, you must -- he might point out that we are kindred souls of the sixth day of creation; that, justly or not, his kind were drawn into "the fall of man" (Jer. 12:4);that we share a common fate (Eccles. 3:9); and that his family, quite appropriately, will be drawn into the coming salvation (Isa. 11:6-7). Then is the soul a "special blessing"? Is it a human given? And is it given at birth or conception? Such discussions reduce the soul to an "it," an impossible to define something installed by God. I am unable to conceive of a soul as an it, even though my religious training has nudged me in that direction: "What happens to my soul when I die?It goes to heaven." We are as misguided to speak of a soul as an it as we are to treat persons as biological objects. The popular argument defines soul as indestructible, and so, curiously, beyond considerations of death. If the soul is eternal, what violence is done to it in abortion, war and murder? We are right back to the level of other creatures: what is terminated is animal life. Soul so defined takes us nowhere. Further, while some contend that the soul sanctifies biology, thus delineating the uniqueness of human life, the simple presence of the soul fails to engender life as the Christian faith understands it. For instance, as a minister I on occasion sit with lonely people who are praying to die -- a common situation indeed. The heart still beats, the brain continues to function, the "soul" remains intact, and yet life -- life meaningful enough to make it worth the effort -- is missing. Neither biological life nor the presence of the soul is a given that enhances human existence. But what does? A Relational Embodiment One of the few things I really know is that my state of being takes form and definition, and therefore meaning, only in relationship, as my body and soul take on the mystery of personhood. From the inside I call this molded peculiarity "me"; those on the outside call it "Dick" -- not a biological procedure baptized with the theory of soul, but rather an exciting and excitable, knowing, sensing, responding, growing and relational embodiment called person. Not only does relationship give definition and meaning to life; it ensures biological survival itself. Newborn animals die without the stimulation that comes from parental licking, and human infants perish despite food, shelter, prayers and all else if they are not carried, cuddled and caressed -- in other words, given tender, loving care. The importance of relationship is obvious in the story of the Garden of Eden. There the man was created full-blown, with form and personality. He alone of all the creatures was addressed as "you": he was created for communion with God. Relationship set him apart from the other creatures. But he was given no name, which in biblical understanding signified that he still lacked his essential nature. God’s creation was not yet finished, and remained unfinished until the arrival of Eve. Only with her presence, and the relationship it promised, was the human phenomenon complete. Then what happened? "The pair partook of the apple," and the three primary relationships of life collapsed. Adam and Eve felt alienated from God, and hid; Adam blamed Eve, fracturing their special oneness; and both turned against themselves, their minds rejecting their bodies as shameful. And closely following these came the fourth broken relationship: the world itself became inhospitable, and man and woman were no longer in harmony with their surroundings. All this God defined as death (Gen. 2:17). Does not death also define life? For instance, the pain of losing a loved one consists largely of the irreversible separation from that person; the broken relationship is the essential meaning of death. Right now in this country there are "people" who, through the awesome capabilities of medical science, have hearts that refuse to stop beating, although all relating has ended. We hesitate, rightfully careful, before the conclusion that because the heart is human we must preserve its functioning. If life is defined in biological terms, that is the only defensible course. But it does raise the question "Is this really what we mean by human life?" Is not the severed relationship what we normally experience as death? Promise Denied When a fetus is destroyed, I moan, "Life has been taken," and feel a troubled regret. I do not like it. But I also recognize another truth: real life has not been taken. Rather, promise has been denied; the vehicle of life has been aborted; an individual will not be realized. That is no small thing. I recall the sorrow of standing beside a small casket containing a still-born nephew. Our family’s grief was real; the baby had been wanted and planned for. But the pain was not for a person; none yet existed. We grieved over the loss of precious promise, and the denial of the human drive to nurture life, to participate in its becoming -- dare I say, its creation? These feelings run very deep, and the emotional appeal made in arguments over abortion is very strong indeed. I know it. I feel it. And still I sense an important distinction between biological life and a person’s life, though admittedly, at the point that one flows into the other, I am sometimes emotionally ill-equipped to distinguish between them. But when I read about and see young, emerging lives being destroyed by neglect, hunger, war and enraged parents, the distinction refocuses, and I say, "Life, real life, is being not only destroyed but twisted, deformed, ‘unholy’ life is being created." The real "abortion" takes place after birth. John Powell, S.J., tells of an insight given him by a psychiatrist: when you are hurting, your thoughts are only about the pain and your hurting self. Healthy relating ceases; meaningful life is interrupted (Free to Be Me: Transcript and Study Guide [Argus, 1978]). We live in a world in which for some, misery is the only reality of existence: people starve to death, live in abject poverty and know unrelieved distress and isolation all their days. The vehicle of body, blood and "soul" has transported them into a living hell, where life remains almost totally biological: physical pain and suffering, biological need and finally, mercifully, biological death. It is indefensible to insist on existence where we cannot offer LIFE. Clearly, biological presence can be more curse than blessing. Anyone who has ever prayed, "Lord, please take him," or who has uttered or concurred with the words, "It’s a blessing that he finally died," knows that truth. Why, then, does this recognition not influence our definition of life? Don’t we trust our instincts? Is biological life an absolute value to be defended at all costs? Jesus came offering life to the living. As Paul said, he was God’s answer to Adam (Rom. 5:12.22).To the pain and sorrow and separation -- death -- so well known in this world, Jesus brought the possibility of life with meaning, life reconciled, that is, brought back into right relationship. The marvelous message of the Christian faith is that we come to God only hand in hand. As we love one another, as we forgive one another, as we relate to one another -- that is the form of our relationship to God. Jesus declared that he came for those who needed his healing (Luke 5:31.32). He did not come salvaging souls, but the life experience. That is fundamental, because I was conceived full of promise; my potential far exceeded my achievements. Indeed, I could convincingly argue that 90per cent of my promise has been "aborted." Some of the painful moments I cause for myself swirl around "what might have been." But what isn’t clearly isn’t. And God’s concern in Christ is for the leftover "is" of my life. I had no control over being born, and have no power to prevent my eventual death. Where I happen is "in between." Any salvation has to be of me and the muddle I make of the middle, or it has no meaning. If anything other than the me I know is the object of God’s concern, if anything other than the person is the object of divine intention, then we are speaking of inanities or mysteries beyond knowing, and entertaining arguments that have no real focus in experience. And experience has everything to do with the definition of life. I am my soul, and I am the real mystery called life. Soul does not exist as an "it," apart from personality. Rather, the soul consists of content, the totally unique creation -- truly the image of God -- that we call the person. Amid all of the stress caused by our uncertainties and conflicts over the abortion issue, I want the church to influence more surely the definition of life. We too have something important to say about it. I don’t believe we have yet done so. Viewed 7539 times. -
According modern science, evolution not only produced accidentally the human brain but also even more complex things like camouflage. <nyt_headline version="1.0" type=> Revealed: Secrets of the Camouflage Masters </nyt_headline> Roger T. Their skin was taking on new colors and patterns faster than the digital signs in Times Square. Skip to next paragraph Enlarge This Image Roger T. Hanlon Octopus at Grand Cayman, where another octopus performed the Moving Rock Trick. <embed src="http://graphics8.nytimes.com/feedroom/nytc4/nytd/oneclip/Player.swf" flashvars="skin=oneclip&site=nytd&fr_story=654e5f8ef2437ba88923b60ac5ed1a9ab0ea4f68" quality="high" menu="false" allowfullscreen="true" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" scale="" height="361" width="315"> Dr. Hanlon inspected the squidlike animals as he walked past their shallow tubs, stopping from time to time to ask, “Whoa, did you see that?” One cuttlefish added a pair of eye spots to its back, a strategy cuttlefish use to fool predators. The spots lingered a few seconds, then vanished. When Dr. Hanlon stuck his finger into another tub, three squirrel-size cuttlefish turned to chocolate, and one streaked its back and arms with wavy white stripes. “Look at the pattern on that guy,” he said with a smile as they lunged for his finger. In other tubs, the cuttlefish put on subtler but no less sophisticated displays. Dr. Hanlon’s students had put sand in some tubs, and there the cuttlefish assumed a smooth beige. On top of gravel, their skins were busy fields of light and dark. Dr. Hanlon likes to see how far he can push their powers of camouflage. He sometimes put black and white checkerboards in the tubs. The cuttlefish respond by forming astonishingly sharp-edged blocks of white. “We can give them any hideous background,” he said, “and they will try to camouflage.” Cuttlefish and their relatives octopus and squid are the world’s camouflage champions. But Dr. Hanlon and his colleagues have just a rough understanding of how these animals, collectively known as cephalopods, disguise themselves so well. Dr. Hanlon, a senior scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory here, has spent much of the last three decades studying them in his laboratory and on thousands of ocean dives. He said he believed that he finally had a theory for how they achieve their magic. In fact, he said it could account for all the camouflage patterns made by animals like katydids and pandas. For all the variety in the world of camouflage, there may be a limited number of ways to fool the eye. Dr. Hanlon’s scientific career was a foregone conclusion. At age 18, he took his first dive in Panama and spotted an octopus hiding on a coral reef. After serving as an Army lieutenant for two years, he entered graduate school at the University of Miami, where he began to study cephalopod camouflage. He has spent much of his career underwater, swimming around coastal reefs and rocky coastal waters from the Caribbean to South Africa to Australia. Typically, Dr. Hanlon and his colleagues follow a single cephalopod, filming for hours as it shifts its skin. On some dives, Dr. Hanlon uses a spectrometer to obtain precise measurements of the light in the water and the reflections from the animal. The tedium is interrupted now and then by acts of spectacular deception. Cephalopods do not just mimic the colors of the sea floor or coral reefs. Sometimes, they make their arms flat and crinkled and wave them like seaweed. Dr. Hanlon has watched octopuses perform what he calls the Moving Rock Trick. They assume the shape of a rock and move in plain sight across the sea floor. But they move no faster than the ripples of light around them, so they never seem to move. Dr. Hanlon’s jaw-dropping footage has appeared on a number of documentaries. One pirated segment has wound up on YouTube, where it has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. Dr. Hanlon approaches normal-looking coral at Grand Cayman Island. When he is a few inches away, half the coral suddenly becomes smooth and white. An eye pops open, and an octopus that has been clinging to the coral shoots away. Despite thousands of dives, Dr. Hanlon still considers himself a novice in spotting cephalopods. Once, after following an octopus for an hour and a half, he looked away a moment to switch cameras. When he looked back, the animal was gone. He and his colleagues swam for 20 minutes before realizing it was right in front of them, exactly where they had seen it before. “I was really angry,” Dr. Hanlon said. “They still fool me, even though I think I know what I’m looking at.” In recent years, Dr. Hanlon has been spending much of his time diving along southern Australia, where a colleague discovered the only major spawning grounds for cuttlefish ever found. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Australian giant cuttlefish gather there to mate and lay eggs. “I’d been searching for a place like that for 25 years,” he said. “The first time I stuck my head in the water, I said, ‘I’ve died and gone to cuttlefish heaven.’ ” full article:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/19/science/19camo.html?_r=1&st=cse&sq=carl+zimmer+revealed&scp=1&oref=slogin

Since it is an obligation in Vedic society that it is the duty of a father and mother to arrange for the marriage of their sons and daughters, what is the present understanding - the pros and cons in general about this custom? How are Vaishnava societies implementing marriage by arrangement? From Wikipedia, "An arranged marriage is a marriage arranged by someone other than the persons getting married, curtailing or avoiding the process of courtship. Such marriages are not uncommon in the Middle East, South Asia, parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Other groups that practice this custom include the Unification Movement, and royal families." Marriage By Arrangement - Results of one Social Science Study Submitted by MarriageDebate.com From "Parents and Children at Odds In Defining Mr. or Mrs. Right," Washington Post, April 14, 2008: ...In a study involving Dutch, American and Kurdish students, psychologists in the Netherlands found that...young people invariably considered [their] potential mate's attractiveness the most important quality, whereas parents uniformly paid more attention to the suitors' social background or group affiliation -- race, religious background and social class... ...Parents and offspring clash, the researchers argued, because their genetic self-interests, while overlapping, are not identical. The reason young people care so much about intellectual and physical attractiveness, the scientists suggested, is that these characteristics are markers of genetic fitness. By contrast, they said, parents care about group affiliations because parents are primarily interested in whether an incoming member of the family is likely to make a good parent -- and a good all-around team player... Historian Stephanie Coontz argues that the researchers did not draw a clear enough distinction between love and marriage. Evolution might play a big role in shaping the reproductive drive, she says, but it would be a mistake to think that the institution of marriage has primarily been about either love or reproduction. Until very recently, Coontz contends, children and parents were rarely in conflict about whom to marry -- they both agreed that marriage was not about love, but about social and economic ties... Nearly everyone in the West -- and growing numbers of young people elsewhere in the world -- believes in the ideal of marrying for love, an idea that would have been ludicrous and dangerous a century ago, said Coontz, author of "Marriage, a History: How Love Conquered Marriage." Coontz traces the change in attitudes about marriage to the fact that growing economic self-reliance has made it less likely that people need to marry for money... Intellectual and physical attractiveness are not incompatible with being dutiful, although traditional (and morally sane) societies do happen to privilege being dutiful over intellectual and physical attractiveness. Short-lived Hollywood marriages should be reason enough to believe that privileging duty over intelligence and beauty is the correct ordering of priorities. It is the duty of a father and mother to arrange for the marriage of their sons and daughters. That is the obligation in Vedic society. Sons and daughters should not be allowed freedom to intermingle with the opposite sex unless they are married. This Vedic social organization is very good in that it stops the promulgation of illicit sex life, or varna-sankara, which appears under different names in this present day. Unfortunately in this age although the father and mother are anxious to get their children married, the children refuse to get married by the arrangement of the parents. Consequently, the number of varna-sankara has increased throughout the world under different names. >>> Ref. VedaBase => SB 4.27.8

Assuming that the goal of spiritual mysticism is to not only theoretically being convinced of our eternal relationship with Krsna, but to also actually experience the symptoms - what are these symptoms? "This means as soon as one is self-realized, immediately he becomes happy, jubilant. And what is the symptom of becoming jubilant? That is also stated, na śocati na kāṅkṣati: “He does not hanker after anything; neither he laments for any loss.” In the material condition we are in the platform of lamentation and hankering. Everyone is trying to possess something which he does not possess, and everyone is lamenting after losing his possession. These are the condition of the materialistic person. So Brahman realization or self-realization means no longer lamentation, no longer hankering. Then next stage is samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu, means then he becomes equal to everyone. He does not treat differently to different living entities. Because he can see the spirit soul in everyone, he sees everyone on the same equal position. This stage is called the bona fide stage for devotional service. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā, brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati na kāṅkṣati samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu mad-bhaktiṁ labhate parām [Bg. 18.54] That is our perfectional stage." Running over the Hare Krishnas in video game http://www.telegraph.co.uk/connected/main.jhtml?xml=/connected/hubpages/2008/gta/dlgtamain1.xml Telegraph.co.uk - United Kingdom In early games, for example, you'd chance on a conga-line of Hare Krishna devotees: if you ran them all over in one go you'd get bonus points and the game ..."Begin by shooting down the dancing Hare Krishnas..." "In this exciting game, you control the last three "true" Christians on earth--Francis Shaeffer, Jack Sparks, and Michael Warnke. They must take on, one at a time, an entire army of false teachers and cult leaders marching down on them in formation, threatening to wipe out the historic Christian faith. Begin by shooting down the dancing Hare Krishnas, the Moonies (dropping flowers on you), and the Mormons (on bicycles). Then look out for the 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses, the Scientologists, and the Possibility Thinkers! Be especially prepared for the prancing T.V. evangelist in the pink suit who comes swooping down on you trying to stick his finger in your ear. Score 666 and the screen lights up indicating "Rapture!". Your dead heroes will rise to fight again, and who knows--you may wind up playing this game for a millenium."

At least pope Benedict XVI decries clergy abuse what the GBC can learn from him. "What does it mean to speak of child protection when pornography and violence can be viewed in so many homes through media widely available today?" Benedict asked that question. Pope decries clergy abuse Pope says clergy abuse scandal sometimes 'badly handled' http://news./s/ap/20080416/ap_on_re_us/pope_us By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Pope Benedict XVI told America's Roman Catholic leaders Wednesday evening that the clergy sex abuse scandal has sometimes been "very badly handled," his harshest criticism yet regarding the crisis that has badly damaged the U.S. church. Benedict's remarks came at a prayer service with hundreds of American bishops at a national shrine in Washington, and marked the second time the pope has addressed sex abuse on his first papal journey to the U.S. On his flight from Rome, the pope said he was deeply ashamed of the scandal and would fight to keep pedophiles out of the priesthood. Benedict addressed clerical molesters in the wider context of secularism and the over-sexualization of America. "What does it mean to speak of child protection when pornography and violence can be viewed in so many homes through media widely available today?" he asked. The pope spoke after Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, who is the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. George said that the consequences of the clergy abuse scandal "and of its being sometimes very badly handled by bishops makes both the personal faith of some Catholics and the public life of the church herself more problematic." Benedict seemed to agree with that assessment. "Responding to this situation has not been easy and, as the president of your episcopal conference has indicated, it was sometimes very badly handled," he said. Benedict said that it was important to remember that the vast majority of priests served faithfully but that it also was the bishops' "God-given responsibility" to reach out to those who had been "so seriously wronged." full article: http://news./s/ap/20080416/ap_on_re_us/pope_us

Obviously a saying of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Maharaja, pointing out what people generaly pray for. Srila Prabhupada: People generally pray for material benefits: “O God, give us our daily bread. Give me nice position. Give me nice wife, nice following or this or victory,” so on, so on, so on, simply for material enjoyment. My Guru Mahārāja used to say that if we pray to God for all these nonsense things, it is just like a man goes to a king and the king says, “Whatever you want you can ask from me,” and if the man says, “Kindly give me a pinch of ashes.” It is like that. If we ask from God for some material benefit, it means that I am asking from a king a pinch of ashes. When king says that “You ask whatever you want,” he can say, “So give me half the kingdom.” That should be the prayer. And why a pinch of ash? Similarly, it is our foolishness. When we ask for bread, “O God, give us our daily bread,” that means I am asking. The bread is already there. Why for you? For everyone, for all living entities, the bread is already there given by God. Eko yo bahūnāṁ vidadhāti kāmān. The elephant is not going to the church for praying, “Give me food.” He is supplied in the jungle food. A tiger is supplied food. Even ant is supplied food within the hole. Who is going to supply food there? How they are eating? How they are living? How they are begetting children? The same thing is there. Āhāra-nidrā-bhaya- maithuna—everything is there in the ant, in the elephant. Who is supplying their necessities? So this is not the problem, these rascals. They are simply perplexed with this problem, how to eat, how to sleep, how to defend. This is already fixed up according to your karma. You simply try—save your time—how to advance in Krishna consciousness. That is your own business. Otherwise you are spoiled. And so far these things are concerned, that how to eat, how to sleep, how to have sex life, and how to defend, this is already arranged. You cannot make betterment in this way. That is already fixed up. Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ [Bg. 3.27]. According to your lot, according to your karma, you have been fixed up that “You shall eat like this, you shall sleep like this, you’ll have sex life like this, and you will be able to defend like this, not more than that.” That is not possible. That is called destiny. So by destiny this is already fixed up. Don’t spoil your life for these things. full lecture:http://causelessmercy.com/t/t/730820BG.LON.htm?i=1973 Bhagavad-gītā 2.14 by His Divine Grace A. C. They would gladly cheat you out of your entire life savings if their actions were legal, or at least not prosecuted. In the last two to three years, the lies, deception, misdirection, false reporting, corruption, and grand fraud will be the topic of historical accounts for decades. When returning on my flights from another successful Cambridge House gold conference, this in Calgary Alberta, many thoughts came to mind, jotted down while gazing at the natural beauty made up from cloud blankets with a sun guarding its lot. The sun and clouds care not at all about economic landscapes underneath, even if in turmoil. Whenever travels take me across national borders, nationalism, idealism, culture, and dreams come to mind. It seems pursuit of truth, clarity, and integrity has become negotiable, one and all in the United States. Its people are being stripped of so much. Perhaps this layout will be helpful. Routinely such matters are covered in the Hat Trick Letter reports. Gold & silver continue to do well to protect individuals and their wealth. Banks are no longer safe, an astonishing conclusion. Bonds are not safe, and neither are money market funds!!! USGOVT ECONOMIC STATISTICS It all starts with outright doctoring on a chronic basis by the USGovt, to the point that the vast majority understands and accepts the practice. Therein lies the foundation for the system extending the institutionalized dishonesty of the nation, carried further by Wall Street as it endorses the doctored statistics routinely. The fish rots from the head down, Wall Street being the blood system, the economy the torso. Put your full faith in accurate economic statistical gathering with the Shadow Govt Statistics crew led by John Williams. No, not the man of Boston Pops musical fame, the other guy. The Gross Domestic Product has been running negative in growth except for a couple quarters five or six years ago, now about minus 2.3% or so. The Consumer Price Index has been accelerating lately, now at 11.8% and still climbing. People do eat food, and people do require energy, so please no need to remove them from calculations. The unemployment rate has been also rising lately, now at 9.8% or so. If out of work, then unemployed, that simple, so no need to talk about participation or discouraged workers by the goofy methods in the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Birth-Death Model is another colossal fraud. Good thing few know what it is. The lies can choke a horse. Motive is clear, to present a picture of strength to sell stocks and government bonds. If the real CPI was widely known to be over 10%, both USTreasurys would suffer declines and gold would be pushed to the heavens. USDOLLAR REBOUNDING… NOT !!! The USDollar has been trying to rebound for a month. Past USDollar charts offered in my analysis have entirely focused upon weekly charts. The daily chart over just the past six months is highly revealing. In the last two months, the 20-day moving average has served as stiff upside resistance. The stochastix show difficulty in staying above the 50 midline, a sign of weakness in the rebound attempt. With growing federal deficits, widening trade deficits, an underwater banking capital core, and rising homeowner negative equity, the US financial fundamentals resemble a banana republic on four primary pillars, unworthy of any currency rebound. The pair of 20-day and 50-day moving averages are still declining. Look for a breakdown to 70 and below in the next several weeks. The downtrend is stronger than any newly formed basis for a bottom bounce. The impact on gold will be to send it over the 1000 level again, this time as floor support for the summer advances. The next USFed rate cut could be the impetus. A game of chicken is being played by the Euro Central Bank, which refused to cut rates since last summer. OIL PRICE WILL FALL AS USECONOMY SLOWS Nice thought, but the US is not the engine of global growth anymore. Asia and the Middle East are the wealth centers, where trade surpluses accumulate. Whatever slack in US demand, Asian demand will grab it. Besides, incremental growth in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (the BRIC nations) is associated on a decreasing level with their exports to the US. The crude oil price is surely determined by equilibrium in supply & demand, however, the entire curves are altered by the falling USDollar. Wall Street cannot seem to admit in its mouthpieces that the USDollar will keep the crude oil price high, and demand from growing emerging economies will prevent much of any price drop from a weaker USEconomy. The entire claim smacks of US arrogance. With the crude oil price hitting $114 per barrel, will Wall Street firms drop their 2008 call for relaxation back to the 80-90 level? Doubtful. Sponsored (ordered?) attacks of hedge funds with cutbacks in credit and margin calls did nothing to bring down the crude oil price. US BANKS HAVE SEEN THE WORST NEWS This is not even close to being true, addressed in a previous recent article. Housing prices are accelerating down, driven by some degree of capitulation on price. The high level of inventory continues to be aggravated by more home foreclosures. Anecdotal evidence supports this, as February prices were a quantum level lower. Hired home processors working on the behalf of bankers and lenders simply gave up. They want to move inventory, period. Again, the point must be repeated until it happens. The Exploding ARMs, the prime adjustable rate mortgages with negative amortization option features, they will begin failing this summer as they reset. When the rising loan limit is hit, the monthly payment doubles or triples! The phenomenon of walking away from mortgages has worsened lately. US banks will suffer wave after wave of losses. The new US Federal Reserve lending facilities are a certain help, but not a cure. The banks are suffering from colossal strain in negative capital core, a situation growing worse by the month. Their capital has melted down completely. Their status will eventually become worse than Japan’s from 1990. CONTAINMENT OF SUBPRIME This was the wrong deceitful refrain last autumn. My analysis refuted it steadily, calling the problem one of absolute bond contagion. The totality of spread risk to the entire global banking system is now finally recognized. The subprime infection has spread to asset backed commercial paper, to prime mortgages, to commercial mortgages, to municipal bonds, to car loans, and to credit card loans. European, English, and Asian banks are all affected. Perhaps the so-called experts were simply wrong in their claim of containment, but doubtful. Most likely they were a combination of liars and incompetents. NO SPILLOVER TO OVERALL ECONOMY This is an ongoing refrain, another cartload of bull cookies. Since the claimed economic expansion began in 2002, the boast was that the financial sector lifted the entire USEconomy. But now, with strain, pain, and no gain on the financial side, we are told to believe no spillover. When is there EVER no spillover from financial to economic? Never! The connection is obvious, as companies, households, and individuals are increasingly frustrated with blocked loans. Approval of loans is a major challenge. Reduced economic activity is the immediate result. The fact that negative GDP statistics have not been registered yet, only means not yet. Besides, there is an integrated 4% to 5% lie in the GDP anyway. A negative official GDP means a 5% recession, which is horrific. TURNAROUND IN SECOND HALF Once more, we hear this desperate refrain. When it hits my ears, it hurts them. This is the most desperate of claims, used recently by USFed Chairman Bernanke. It is also used by Wall Street firms. The USEconomy is at the tipping point, almost negative on even the official GDP. The US corporate profitability is also at the tipping point, almost negative after losing its growth. The second half of the year is far enough away, that it is not within quick reach. The second half of the year is far enough away, that if the turnaround fails, most people will forget. This is a standard con, woven in desperation. The words ‘Second Half’ should evoke laughter, nay, guffaws. LIMITS ON MORTGAGE RELATED LOSSES Last late summer, Bernanke spoke publicly about an estimated $200 billion in total mortgage portfolio and bond losses. My estimate was $2000 billion, as in $2 trillion. Any such similar estimate of this magnitude by a person in a prominent position would have evoked fear and trembling. So the ratcheted estimate technique has been deployed. The estimates now have finally reached $1000 billion, from more than two or three corners. With the next prime Option ARM wave of failures, the estimates will move toward $2 trillion. Again, the purpose of Wall Street and USFed pronouncements is not accuracy, but control of the people so as to avert panic. News The real Good Life: An entire village turns against supermarkets and grows its own food By LUKE SALKELD - More by this author » Last updated at 17:46pm on 14th April 2008 Comments (19) It was a sitcom that inspired many a household to live off the land. And although it might not attract the likes of Margo and Jerry to move to the area, an entire village is trying its hand at the Good Life. In a bid to become less dependent on supermarkets, the residents of Martin are working together to become as self-sufficient as possible. Scroll down for more ... Villagers of Martin, Hants, who have shunned supermarkets to grow their own meat and veg The Hampshire village is now home to hundreds of real life versions of the characters played by Felicity Kendall and Richard Briers, who lived off the land in the 1970s BBC comedy. They work on a rota system and raise their own chickens and pigs and grow potatoes, garlic, onions, chillis and green vegetables on eight acres of rented land. Of the 164 families who live in Martin, 101 have signed up as members of Future Farms for an annual £2 fee, although the produce can be sold to anyone who wants to buy it. The "community allotment" sells 45 types of vegetables and 100 chickens a week, and is run by a committee which includes a radiologist, a computer programmer and a former probation officer. Scroll down for more ... In The Good Life, Tom and Barbara (played by Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal) try to live a self-sufficient lifestyle by converting their garden into allotments Nick Snelgar, 58, who came up with idea in 2003, said the project was gradually "weaning" villagers off of supermarkets. He said: "I like to think of it as a large allotment in which there are lots of Barbaras and Toms working away. "There are also Margos as well, but everyone can get involved. "The nearest supermarket is six miles away. Of course people still have to go there for things like loo roll and deodorant and fruit you can't grow in Britain. "So we aren't boycotting supermarkets entirely but we are gradually weaning people off them and as a result are reducing our carbon footprint by not using carrier bags and packaging." Scroll down for more ... Every Saturday the produce is sold at the village hall The good life: The village of Martin nestles in the Hampshire countryside Mr Snelgar, a horticulturalist, said the VAT-registered co-operative had grown so much that last year it had a turnover of £27,000 - most of which was ploughed back into the scheme. He said: "We began with vegetables and we found that all the skills we needed were here in the village. "After the vegetables we introduced chickens and then pigs and we learned inch by inch. "We have other producers whose goods we sell and they include a sheep farmer and someone who has honey. Scroll down for more ... The farm sells 20 pigs a year as well as chickens and lambs and is now starting to sell beef "It has been a fantastically interesting experience and we now have four plots of land covering eight acres. "There are 164 families in the village and they include about 300 adults and 100 children, so there are about 400 creatures to feed.' Every Saturday the community comes together with their produce which is sold at the village hall. Mr Snelgar added: "The most popular thing we sell is carrots. Scroll down for more ... The majority of families have signed up to the scheme, but anyone can buy the produce "People love the smell of fresh carrots, and we pull them out of the ground the day before we sell them. "We don't yet do dairy, but we hope to include that in the future and we also intend to grow raspberries and strawberries. "We set the prices by working out how much the food costs to produce. We then add 20 per cent. "Our pork sausages, for example, are sometimes cheaper than sausages you buy in the supermarkets. We break even and all money gets ploughed back in. "When we started some people thought it would fail and we'd never last, but as the years have gone by more and more people have become involved. "It is also a talking point in the village and it's great to see people walking to the village hall on a Saturday morning talking to each other. It has created a sense of belonging." But this is what seems presently missing in applied knowledge/science - a big style spiritual project that actually is a release from being caught in the treadmill of material frustration. Wherever you look people are unhappy, don't see light at the end of the tunnel. "So Nityānanda has no unhappiness, but He was passing on the street, there was a crowd, and Nityānanda Prabhu inquired, “Why there is so much crowd?” So somebody informed that “There are two brothers, Jagāi and Mādhāi, and they are very fallen souls, although they were born in brāhmaṇa family, very nice, rich family. But being addicted to drinking and prostitution, they have become now rogues, thieves, this way. So they are disturbing the whole neighborhood.” So Nityānanda Prabhu considered, “So these two brothers are so fallen? So why not deliver them first?” This is Nityānanda Prabhu. “Then My Lord…” Nityānanda Prabhu considered Caitanya Mahāprabhu as His master. So “My master’s name will be famous. Because the master’s propaganda is ‘Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa,’ so if I can induce these two brothers to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, they will be saved. So why not try?” This is Nityānanda Prabhu, that para-duḥkha-duḥkhī. He is happy personally, but because He knows that “These drunkards, woman-hunters, prostitute-hunters, will suffer very, very severely, so why not deliver them?” This is Nityānanda Prabhu, Vaiṣṇava. Vaiṣṇava, you will find so many others also. In your country there is Lord Jesus Christ. When he was being crucified, still he was saying, “My Lord, excuse them. They do not know what they are doing.” This is Vaiṣṇava. They are not unhappy, and they can tolerate any unhappy position. But they are… Therefore they come to deliver so many fallen souls." Don' t worry, the pope and Bush are doing this just right now. Pope Benedict is a professional preacher what we can do? You're right of not getting into this kind of too advanced preaching and staying back. Other Vaishnavas, well, so far I don't that think that presently there're any Vaishnavas who consider to preach, times have changed. Sometimes it's better sometimes it's worse. Maybe this kind of topics are anyway already too stereotyped. Pope Benedict visiting Georg Bush -
First Of All Let Them Prove Their Theory
suchandra replied to suchandra's topic in Spiritual Discussions
Good point, great post, go on with the good work! Yes, the functioning of just one living cell is ten thousand of times more complex than the functioning of a car. Sadāpūta: So mathematics shows that chance alone would never begin to produce the things that go into life, because this, say, is just for one protein, but it’s estimated in the simplest cell that they experiment with that there are some three thousand proteins. This is what they estimate. And in a human, in a single cell of the human body, they estimate three hundred thousand, or even three million. It’s just an estimate. But it shows that chance is completely unrealistic. Now the scientists will say that both chance and natural laws somehow mysteriously go together in what they call natural selection to produce living structures. In the next slide, this is also a calculation, and it shows that that is not correct either, at least as far as the mathematics goes. What this says is suppose you look at the earth and you’re going to wait four point five billion years— that’s what they estimate is the age of the earth—and ask what is the chance of finding a given organized structure. And mathematically there’s a thing called information theory, and you can show that the chance of getting an organized structure with a high level of information goes down exponentially, so that for an amount of information higher than that of the laws that cause these things to move, the chance goes down practically to zero. So it wouldn’t happen. So this gets kind of complicated, but there’s a basic point behind it; namely it indicates that the natural laws that are causing things, like that list of those laws, must already have in them, built into them, whatever is going to be manifested. That is, if some given structure can be manifested in the material world, that means the laws that are causing things must already have at least that much built into them. But their understanding of natural laws, the laws are too simple, too short to have that kind of thing built into them. So there’s that argument. We’ll go on to the next one. This is some mathematical formulas related to that. I don’t think we should dwell on that. This slide right here gives an example of the kind of structures you find even in simple organisms. This is a bacterium. When they look at it under a microscope, they can see that this bacterium has a reversible motor built into it, and this motor spins a spiral flagellum, and by spinning it it propels the bacteria through the water, just like a submarine. So this very sophisticated motor is built into the wall of the bacterium. So that shows the kind of structures for which designs would have to be there. Actually, the scientific explanation, the way that they explain how this comes about, is completely impossible, because they would say that either by chance it came about all at once—and the chances are way too small, so that would never happen—or else it would have to come by small stages somehow. But what would be a small stage in the formation of a workable motor? Can’t even think of how that would work. So it doesn’t make much sense. So what we wanted to argue was that these living structures are very highly complex, they have a very great amount of information needed to specify them, and then mathematically it follows that this evolution process can’t happen, because the probability is way down, it’s something impossible. So we wanted to argue that. The next slide— whoops, we’re going the wrong way, there. We wanted to compare some structures. This is the chemist’s idea of what a diamond…, the top picture is a chemist’s idea of what the structure of a diamond looks like. It’s based on very simple repeating patterns. It’s reasonable perhaps that chemical pushes and pulls could produce a simple design like this just by pulling the molecules together. The lower thing is a structure for graphite, which is another simple design built on hexagons. But on the other hand, in living systems you have things like this. (shows slide) According to the way they’ve analyzed it, there are chemical structures of this complexity. So we’d like to argue that this requires a very large amount of information to specify this thing, and so the simple natural laws couldn’t account for this. On the other hand, it’s very reasonable to suppose that an intelligent designer can account for things like that. These protein structures that Svarūpa Dāmodara was pointing out, it’s not just any old structure, but it performs a very specific function within the cell, just like a little automatic machine of some kind. So we’d like to argue that the chance and molecular forces theory won’t explain things like this, but to say that there is an intelligent designer would be a sensible explanation. The next slide, this shows some of the complexities of what goes on inside a cell, and it’s only a fraction of what is there. It’s hard to read, but each little bit of print refers to some very complicated chemical reaction involving big molecules like the one in the last slide. So there are hundreds of reactions like that on this one page, and this page is one out of four from a chart that we found detailing some of these things. This metabolism goes on even in the most primitive cells like this bacterium, and yet it’s only a fraction of the total of what goes on. The scientists will admit they’ve only made a fractional study of all that’s going on in these cells. So that kind of argument is one line of reasoning we’d like to present. (another slide) Now this refers to another thing. We’d like to describe the concept of consciousness as being something not material—nonphysical and nonchemical. And it turns out that actually in modern physics that’s already a basic principle, and it’s been that way for the last fifty or sixty years, but that’s not widely admitted or taught in the schools. But actually in modern physics, it’s called quantum mechanics. They realize that in order to describe physical processes you have to include the observer in the picture; you can’t describe these things without accounting for the observer, and so they made an analysis. This was done by von Neumann, who was one of these physicists. He analyzed the difference between the observer and the observed. So here we have a man looking through, say, a microscope at some object, and you can see that in this case you can draw the line between the observer and the observed. So the man is observing the microscope plus object. And physically there are, according to the physicist’s idea, there are these equations, represented by number one, equation number one, which describe all the molecules and forces of interaction on the observed side. But there’s another kind of equation that goes in quantum mechanics, which corresponds to the observer’s side, and this equation is completely different from the first equation. So this indicates that the observer must be something different in nature from the observed. Now the next slide shows here the boundary between the observer and the observed is moved. It’s kind of arbitrary. You can move the boundary back so now the observed becomes the eyeball and the microscope and the object, and the observer is still on the other side. And the basic idea is you can move this boundary back, step by step, and on one side you can put, at least in principle, more and more of the parts of the body into the observed system, but on the other side you still have the observer, and he continues to be described by an equation that can’t be reduced to the force laws that are used to describe the observed. So the conclusion is that the observer must be something nonphysical. He’s not actually part of that physical body at all. So that’s actually basic in quantum mechanics. So we wanted to present that. Now this slide… There’s another line of evidence here. It’s the inspiration, and Śrīla Prabhupāda has said that intelligence is the form direction of Supersoul. So it’s interesting, it’s really striking to observe how various people create things in mathematics and science and art, like that. It’s very striking. So we made two examples here. This one is a mathematician names Gauss. He lived in the nineteenth century, and his concern was to solve mathematical problems. The interesting thing is that in a very difficult mathematical problem, the person never solves it by figuring it out consciously, step by step. But what happens is that he tries very hard to figure it out for a long time, and nothing happens, and then all of a sudden the answer comes to him. So it’s hard to read that quote. This is a quotation by this Gauss describing how that happened to him. “Life Comes From Life” Slideshow Discussions by His Divine Grace A. C. Somehow the modern so called "scientific expertise" presented to us by so called "experts", that life is nothing but a combination of chemicals has brainwashed people in general so severly that hardly anyone even dares to speak up against the present establishment of material ignorance. With establishment we can also mention so many big, big churches who preach conjointly every Sunday that animals have no soul, that animals are soulless biological life. But what actually is biological life? Prabhupada: First of all let them prove their theory. Then we shall prove ours. We are proving. We have got our own way. But why they are speaking all this nonsense? First of all let him prove that he is genuine. Then our turn will be next. Ours is very easy. Krishna said to sun-god, and sun-god said to his son, his son, his son. It is coming like that. Where is the difficulty? Again Krishna says, "Now it is mismanaged. It is lost, so I am saying again to you Arjuna." So what Arjuna has understood, we are understanding the same way. How Arjuna understood it, that is written in the Bhagavad-gita. Where is the... We have no difficulty. But you jump over: "There is link," that "Once only from monkey came." What is this nonsense? We have to believe this? Has it any sense? And because Mr. Darwin is speaking we have to accept it? We cannot... ..So why now from gorilla the Africans or any black man is not coming? Then the question is the black man... We have got experience. The black man come. And wherefrom the white man came? Is there any white gorilla? Pusta Krishna: No. Prabhupada: No. Then white man, how did he come? Harikesa: Well, sometimes there is a freak of nature, and the pigments that are in the skin... Prabhupada: Simply it is for Darwin, "sometime." To support his rascaldom, nature has to serve him "sometimes. "Just see. We have to believe. Nature's law is the same, symmetrical. Is there any scientist who can make an egg which is put in the incubator and gradually it comes to become ...'" Harikesa: They will think we are completely crazy. Prabhupada: Huh? Well, then kick on their face, on their nose, rascal. We are crazy or you are crazy? Harikesa: But who wants to make eggs? Prabhupada: Huh? No, no, it is an experiment. You say life comes from chemical. So by chemical combination make an egg and do it. Begin from this. Then we shall see others. This is very easy. If you have already analyzed the yellow portion of the egg, the white portion of the egg and that outer plastering can be done. Nowadays there is... What is called? Harikesa: Plastic. Prabhupada: Plastic. It can be done. Do it. Pusta Krishna: Make a chicken. Prabhupada: Yes. Make a chicken or so many birds. If not chicken, make a sparrow. Do something. Do something. Why you should be misled by them, these rascals? Challenge him. Challenge them publicly that "These rascals are misleading. Don't accept them. They're simply misleading." Harikesa: Well, they're the best we have. They're the best we have. We have nobody. Who else is going to take care of us? Prabhupada: No, at least... We ... just like we challenge, they cannot give answer. This should be proved. Then they will be proved that they are rascals. Harikesa: The whole scientific craze seems to be settling down anyway. It seems to be dying down. Prabhupada: It must die. The scientists, they admit now, "What we shall do? We have bluffed in so many ways. Now what is the next bluffing?" Their bluff, last bluffing, was going to the moon planet, and everything is failed. Then what is next bluffing? That is their problem, how to keep their big, big post? Harikesa: There's nothing left to do. Prabhupada: Yes. They have finished all their theories. Still, they could not do anything. This is their position. (break) Margarine is also another bluff. It is oil; it is taken as ghee, er, butter. Harikesa: They say it's very healthy for you. Prabhupada: They will say. Harikesa: It doesn't have all those cholesterols. Prabhupada: Otherwise how they will sell? They will say. They will present anything nonsense in flowery language, and people will be cheated. That's all. Harikesa: Americans can't stand this butter and ghee. When we cook in these pure things like ghee, they become very upset. Prabhupada: Because meat-eaters. Harikesa: If it's not impure they don't like it. Prabhupada: Meat-eaters cannot digest ghee. Therefore in America, all of a sudden change of diet in our..., their stomach become upset. Just like animal, dogs, they cannot eat this ghee preparation. Pusta Krishna: They can't take it. Morning Walk -- Durban, October 13, 1975

It is a global rapid development that many people can't afford even a simple burial anymore. Of course the news media don't speak the truth that people are chosing anonymous burials because they are forced into poverty by present demoniac governments in such a way that they can't pay for a burial anymore. Instead the media reports, people are so bereft of culture and therefore chose anonymous burials. In our town recently a young man was found dead in his apartment. Because this man was registered as jobless they immediately buried him in an anonymous gravesite without informing his relatives living in a small village. When the parents found out their son had died and was already anonymously buried they protested and wanted their son to be buried at their family grave in that small village. Instead what happened, the city council send them a bill of $ 6000 dollar for the anonymous burial to be paid. So much to Western governments reporting that people are more and more bereft of any culture and chose anonymous burials.... http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-18311722.html

This title "Bhaktivedanta" was actually a new title in the Vaishnava society, but meanwhile many others also adopted this title and here are some explanations: "This Bhaktivedanta title was given on this vedānta-vādī because in our society there was no Vedānta. So some of the Vaisnavas selected me to get this title Bhaktivedanta. Vedānta means bhakti, understanding bhakti. Because vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ [Bg. 15.15]. So who can understand Kṛṣṇa unless he has bhakti? So this is the bhaktivedānta." Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.5.24 by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Vṛndāvana, August 5, 1975 "It is new title amongst the Vaisnava society. So the Māyāvādī philosophers they are sometimes surprised that “How Swamijī is Vedanti, at the same time bhakti?” But actually they do not know Vedānta means bhakti. Real Vedānta commentary is Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Bhāṣyaṁ brahma-sūtrāṇām." Rādhāṣṭamī Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s Appearance Day by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Montreal, August 30, 1968 "People are after so-called Vedantists, but they do not know Kṛṣṇa, so-called Vedantist. But one who is actually Vedantist, he knows Kṛṣṇa. Therefore some times ago some of these Vaisnavas, they gave me this title, Bhaktivedanta. Bhaktivedanta means ultimate understanding of Vedānta is bhakti, not to become impersonalist." Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.1.3 by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda London, August 19, 1971 "And because Vaisnava sampradāya, they are concerned with the bhakti, bhakti, I mean to say, cult, therefore our society, the Vaiṣṇavas, they were pleased to give me this title, Bhaktivedanta, that “You will explain the Vedānta- sūtra.” So this Bhaktivedanta title was especially offered to me, and I do not know why. That’s all.So that Vedānta means bhakti, devotional service. That is the Vaisnava philosophy. And Vedānta means, for the Śaṅkara sampradāya, that “There is no God. I am God.” Mīmāṁsaka kahe īśvara haya karmera aṅga. You know there are six kinds of philosophies in India: the mīmāṁsaka philosophy; and Sāṅkhya philosophy; and nyāya—nyāya means logic—nyāya philosophy; then Māyāvāda philosophy; then Patañjali, yoga system, Patanjali philosophy; and at last, this Vedānta philosophy. So there are six kinds of philosophers. Out of them, only the Vedānta philosophy is compiled by Vyāsadeva. So it is considered that Vedānta philosophy only establishes the existence of God. All other philosophies, they do not admit the existence of God. They are atheistic philosophies. Mīmāṁsaka. Mīmāṁsaka means they have decided that “There is no necessity of worshiping God. If there is any God, all right, you do your duty nicely, and He will be obliged to award you the required result. Then there is no question of flattering Him.” That is mīmāṁsaka philosophy." Although nature is withdrawing more and more ressources, still, people don't have the intelligence anymore to see the actual cause, Godlessness. Honey Bee Collapse Now Worse on West Coast © 2008 by Linda Moulton Howe http://www.earthfiles.com/news.php?ID=1416&category=Environment “It's worse than last year, and last year was worse than the year before. So, it's bad. And there are a lot of good, big beekeepers that are having a lot of problems. I think we're coming in for a big train wreck.” - Gilly Sherman, Beekeeper Western honey bee, or European honey bee (Apis mellifera), gathering pollen from purple aster. 34% of American honey bees in commercial hives have disappeared this spring of 2008, in a persistent mystery known as “colony collapse disorder.” April 10, 2008 Gainesville, Florida - On April 5, 2008, England's BBC News carried a report entitled, “U. S. Fears Over Honey Bee Collapse.” A California beekeeper, Gilly Sherman, was interviewed and he said sobering words: “It's worse than last year, and last yar was worse than the year before. So, it's bad. And there are a lot of good, big beekeepers that are having a lot of problems. I think we're coming in for a big train wreck.” I took that quote to Jerry Hayes, Chief, Apiary Section, Florida Department of Agriculture, and President of the Apiary Inspectors of America in Gainesville, Florida and asked for his comment. <hr> Interview: Jerry Hayes, Chief, Apiary Section, Florida Department of Agriculture, and President of the Apiary Inspectors of America in Gainesville, Florida: “Certainly West Coast beekeepers were more dramatically affected this year than perhaps East Coast beekeepers. Last year, East Coast beekeepers had the first and dramatic events happening to their bee colonies. Sometimes, the West Coast beekeepers said, ‘Well, it’s not happening to us. You must just be bad beekeepers.’ So, now the shoe is on the other foot and they are suffering as badly as anybody has been. Everybody is on an even playing field right now. Bees are not healthy. Bees have not been healthy for a few years and they are becoming more unhealthy. The beekeepers, the industry that uses them as a tool, is in a precarious situation. SO WOULD YOU AGREE WITH THE BEEKEEPER QUOTED BY THE BBC NEWS, ‘I THINK WE’RE COMING IN FOR A BIG TRAIN WRECK’? We’ll never know these things until after the train wreck. It certainly does not look good. I’ve been reading some reports about whole populations of bats dying and disappearing in the Northeast. The quail population in the southeast has virtually disappeared. I don’t know if any of these things have parallels and links, but it certainly is interesting that something in the environment is impacting these other animals. WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATE OF COLONY COLLAPSE DISORDER IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA? 34% Bee Loss in U. S. by Spring 2008 The Apiary Inspectors of America (AIA), of which I am a part – we just completed a survey of 327 beekeepers and we came up with about a 34% loss rate over this past 2007 to 2008 winter season. THAT’S EVEN MORE THAN LAST YEAR? Yes, a little bit. [ 2007 estimated American loss was 25%.] GOING INTO THIS SPRING OF 2008, WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST WORRIES? Beekeepers cannot continue to take these kinds of losses and rebound in any kind of way. Cause of Colony Collapse Disorder? “Unfortunately, we still don’t have a clear picture of why this is happening.” THE LAST TIIME WE TALKED, IT WAS THE ISRAELI VIRUS UNDER SUSPICION OF COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES THROUGH AUSTRALIAN BEES THAT HAD BEEN BROUGHT IN BECAUSE THE NORTH AMERICAN BEE POPULATION HAD BEEN WEAKENED. IS THERE EVIDENCE THAT THE ISRAELI ACUTE PARALYSIS VIRUS IS STILL CAUSING THE MORTALITY? OR IS THERE STILL SOMETHING TO BE FOUND? WHAT IS CAUSING ONE-THIRD OF ALL THE BEES IN THE UNITED STATES TO DISAPPEAR IN THE WINTER OF 2007 TO SPRING OF 2008? [ Editor’s Note : See 090707 Earthfiles: Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) September 2007 journal, Science. ] Boy, if I knew that, I’d probably have a statue some place, Linda. Obviously it’s all the issues that are still on the table right now. Viruses – whether it’s the Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus, or other viruses that are known and impact honeybees? There again, pesticides, poor nutrition, stress whatever that is from moving bees back and forth, a shallow genetic pool in our managed bee colonies. Some how, all these things are interacting. Basically, we need more funds in order to hire smart people and expensive equipment to figure what is going on. Research is never quick. DID YOU EXPECT AN INCREASE IN THE DISAPPEARANCE OF BEES IN NORTH AMERICA? I was personally interested to find out if it was going to continue and to find out what was going to happen to our West Coast beekeepers that seemed to have dodged a bit of the bullet last year. I was hoping that it would not, but I knew that something like this just generally does not go away on its own. BUT ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT THE WEST COAST BEEKEEPERS ARE BEING HIT HARD NOW IN 2008? No, not really. You know how things spread – if this is a pathogen or something in which all populations are not hit equally. So, it was unfortunately their turn. HAS THE ISRAELI ACUTE PARALYSIS VIRUS BEEN FOUND IN THE WEST COAST HONEYBEES? Yes, it’s there, but not at any dramatic levels. In fact, there’s kind of an East Coast variant and a West Coast variant of the Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus. There’s also the Kashmir bee virus that has shown up in quite large numbers. Then you add in all the other things we talked about that could cause the immune system collapse. All those things are interacting. SO, IN APRIL 2008, YOU CAN’T SAY EVEN NOW THAT IT IS THE ISRAELI VIRUS THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MOST OF COLONY COLLAPSE DISORDER? No, because in the CCD, the Israeli acute paralysis virus was found in most of the samples and at the moment is considered just a marker. It was not present in tremendously high numbers. And we can’t say it’s the varroa mite because in CCD, varroa and trachea mites are in very low levels. The Nosema protozoan was found in less than 50% of the colonies. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a clear picture of why this is happening.

from dharmakshetra.com Srila Jiva Gosvami explains diksa in his Bhakti-sandarbha (283) :divyam jnanam yato dadyat kuryat papasya sanksayamtasmat dikseti sa prokta desikais tattva-kovidaih "Diksa is the process by which one can awaken his transcendental knowledge and vanquish all reactions caused by sinful activity. A person expert in the study of the revealed scriptures knows this process as diksa." The gayatri-mantra gives all kinds of divya-jnana, transcendental knowledge, including the knowledge of krsna-tattva and jiva-tattva, and it also gives a relationship with Krsna. Nama alone will not give this relation to the person filled with anarthas. - Sri Caitanya-caritamrta: Madhya 15. 108 purp All of our acaryas, from top to bottom, have stated that in order to purify us from our sinful actions and to clear offenses (anartha-nrvrtti) so that we can develop the ability to chant the pure name, we must accept diksa-vidhana (the process of initiation). Di - ksa. Di means divya-jnana, or realized knowledge of our relationship with Krsna. Ksa is the washing away of all sins, aparadhas, and other impurities. For this, diksa-vidhana is essential. Without diksa-samskara, one's relationship with Krsna (sambandha-jnana) cannot manifest and one cannot chant suddha-nama. It is essential to accept diksa. yatha kancanatam yatikamsyam rasa-vidhanatahtatha diksa-vidhanenadvijatvam jayate nrnam "As bell metal (a mixture of copper and tin) becomes gold by mixing with mercury, similarly, by the process of diksa, initiation, a person becomes a brahmana."( Sri Hari-bhakti-vilasa) Bell metal turns into gold by the help of the element mercury in an al-chemical process. Similarly, by this element, the process of diksa, our chanting of the holy name will become pure; otherwise it is not possible. If there is no necessity to accept diksa-mantra, why did Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada take second initiation from Srila Gaurakisora dasa Babaji Maharaja, and why did he give diksa initiation to all of his disciples? If there is no necessity, why did Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura give diksa initiation, and why did his disciples accept it? Not only that, Brahma received kama-gayatri and gopal-mantra from Krsna Himself. Brahma then gave the diksa-mantra to Sri Narada Rsi, and Narada gave it to so many disciples. Narada not only gave harinama to Dhruva Maharaja; he gave him diksa by the mantra: om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took initiation from Sri Isvara Puripada, who first gave Him harinama, and to purify that chanting of nama, he gave Him gopal-mantra. Gopal-mantra is transcendental and ever-existing, and it gives a relationship with Krsna as Gopijana-vallabha. We should consider all this evidence. All the acaryas in our guru-parampara have accepted second initiation from a bona fide guru. Can those who say that harinama is sufficient for conditioned souls name any acarya in our guru-parampara who has not taken diksa initiation? Srila Gaurakisora dasa Babaji Maharaja, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, and the Six Gosvamis took second initiation, and Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj took it. Why did they take diksa initiation if it is not essential? Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Sri Nityananda Prabhu, Sri Advaita Acarya, Sri Gadadhara Pandita, Sri Isvara Puri, and Sri Madhavendra Puri have all taken diksa. Why, then, should we not take it? Why is it not essential? If it is not essential, then why did Sri Sanatana Gosvami write about it in his Sri Hari-bhakti-vilasa? Why did Sri Gopal Bhatta Gosvami also write about it? Did he say it was useless? Those who say that diksa is not essential will not be able to answer these questions in hundreds and millions of years. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took initiation even though he is the Lord of lords - Radha and Krsna combined - and yet He went to Gaya and took initiation. He vividly explained this fact in a gathering of sannyasis in Kasi when those sannyasis asked Him, "O, You are a very young and qualified sannyasi. Why do you not hear Vedanta? Why do you engage in singing and dancing and rolling on the ground? A sannyasi should not dance and do all these things. " Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu replied by telling them of the order of His guru, Sri Isvara Puripada:Mahaprabhu said, "Guru mora murkha dekhi - My Guru Maharaja told me that because I am foolish and unintelligent, I am not qualified to study Vedanta. He said that instead I should always chant Hare Krsna and I should remember this verse:harer nama harer namaharer namaiva kevalamkalau nasty eva nasty evanasty eva gatir anyatha(Caitanya Caritamrta Adi-lila 17.21) "In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari." But Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu not only took harinama from His gurudeva; He also took second initiation through the gopal-mantra. In our parampara, in order to purify one's chanting and to and give the chanter a relationship with Krsna who has kindly taken the form of His holy name, the gopal-mantra is given along with harinama. Up until Caitanya Mahaprabhu's manifested pastimes only the gopal-mantra was given. Later, Srila Dhyanacandra Gosvami and Srila Gopal-guru Gosvami gave the regulations we now follow. They gave brahma-gayatri, guru-mantra, guru-gayatri, gaura-mantra, gaura-gayatri, krsna-mantra (gopal-mantra) and finally kama-gayatri. This is the process followed in our sampradaya as begun by Srila Gopal-guru Gosvami, who is a disciple of Vakresvara Pandita, who is an associate of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Caitanya Mahaprabhu quoted His gurudeva saying, "Krsna-mantra japa sada - ei mantra-sara. You must always chant the holy name of Krsna. This is the essence of all mantras, or Vedic hymns."krsna-mantra haite habe samsara-mocanakrsna-nama haite pabe krsnera carana "Simply by chanting the holy name of Krsna one can obtain freedom from material existence. Indeed, simply by chanting the Hare Krsna mantra one will be able to see the lotus feet of the Lord." The offenseless chanting of the holy name does not depend on the initiation process. But that name must be the pure name, and how will it become so? It can only become pure through that diksa process; otherwise it is not possible. It is not that the holy name is not pure, but if a person is not a pure devotee he cannot chant the pure name. He can only chant syllables that sound like the name. He can only chant offenses to the name (nama-aparadha) or a shadow of the name (nama-abhasa). Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu chanted the pure name, and therefore He was able to tell His gurudeva:kiba mantra dila, gosani, kiba tara balajapite japite mantra karila pagala "'My dear lord, what kind of mantra have you given Me? I have become mad simply by chanting this maha-mantra!'"(Caitanya-caritamrta Adi 7.81) Caitanya Mahaprabhu told the sannyasis, "You ask why I dance and sing and roll on the ground. Here is the reason: When My gurudeva initiated me, he gave me both the harinama mantra and the gopal mantra. " Then He said, "japite japite mantra." If He had only received harinama, the maha-mantra, He would not have said the word "mantra"? Mantra especially refers to gopal-mantra and kama-gayatri. He first received harinama and then gopal-mantra. "Japite japite mantra karila pagala - and this made Me mad. Krsna nama mantra - meaning gopal and maha mantra made Him "like a madman". For those who always remember and meditate on the gopal-mantra and kama-gayatri, by the power of the mantra, rati (bhava-bhakti) will at once enter their hearts. It has been written in Caitanya-caritamrta: Antya-lila 4.192: diksa-kale bhakta kare atma-samarpanasei-kale krsna tare kare atma-sama "At the time of initiation, when a devotee fully surrenders unto the service of the Lord, Krsna accepts him to be as good as Himself." First initiation is called harinama initiation only, and the second initiation is called diksa. Atma samarpana - at the time of diksa the disciple totally surrenders unto the feet of his gurudeva. Sei-kale. At that time Krsna gives the shelter of His lotus feet, and He makes that disciple atma-sama, very near and dear to Him. According to the Vaisnava regulative principles, one must be initiated as a brahmana. As quoted in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa (2.6) from the Visnu-yamala, Lord Sankara says to his wife Parvati: adiksitasya vamoru krtam sarvam nirarthakampasu-yonim avapnoti diksa-virahito janah" O Vamaru - O beautiful Parvati. Regarding those who have not taken diksa, all their devotional activities, such as sadhana, bhajana, and puja, have all gone in vain. They are all useless. Such persons who are not properly initiated must again enter the many animals species. "In addition, it has been told that nama can give everything, including Krsna-prema, simply by touching the tongue. It is stated in Padyavali, a book compiled by Srila Rupa Gosvami: akrstih krta-cetasam su-manasam uccatanam camhasamacandalam amuka-loka-sulabho vasyas ca mukti-sriyahno diksam na ca sat-kriyam na ca purascaryam manag iksatemantro 'yam rasana-sprg eva phalati sri-krsna-namatmakah "'The holy name of Lord Krsna is an attractive feature for many saintly, liberal people. It is the annihilator of all sinful reactions and is so powerful that, it is readily available to everyone, including the lowest type of man, the candala. The holy name of Krsna is the controller of the opulence of liberation, and it is identical with Krsna. When a person simply chants the holy name with his tongue, immediate effects are produced. Chanting the holy name does not depend on initiation, pious activities or the purascarya regulative principles generally observed before initiation. The holy name does not wait for any of these activities. It is self-sufficient.' - Sri Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya 15.110
