How have we fallen in this material world?
suchandra replied to krsna's topic in Spiritual Discussions
"Our present existence, it is also dream, exactly like we dream at night. In dreaming, we create so many things. So this material world is also a gross dreaming. Gross dreaming. That is subtle dreaming. And this is gross dreaming. That is the action of the mind, body, intelligence, dreaming. And here, the action of five material elements: earth, water, air, fire… But all of them, these eight, they are simply material. So we are thinking that “I have now built a very nice house, skyscraper building.” It is nothing but dream. Nothing but dream. Dream in this sense, that as soon as I give up this body, all my skyscraper building, business, factory— finished. Exactly the same dream. Dream is for few minutes, or few hours. And it is for few years. That’s all. It is dream. So one should not be disturbed by this dreaming condition. That is spiritual life. One should not be disturbed. Just like we are not disturbed. Suppose, in dream, I was put on the throne, and I was working like a king, and after the dream is over, I am not sorry. Similarly, in dream I was seeing that tiger has attacked me. I was actually crying “Here is tiger! Here is tiger! Save me.” And the person who is lying behind me or beside me, he says, “Oh, why you are crying? Where is tiger?” So when he’s awakened, he sees there is no tiger. So everything is like that. But this dream, these gross and subtle dreams, are simply reflections. Just like what is dream? The whole day, what I think, the dreaming is a reflection, reflection. My father was doing cloth business. So sometimes he, in dreaming he was quoting price: “This is the price.” So similarly it is all dreaming. This material existence, made of these five gross elements and three subtle elements, they’re exactly like dream. Smara nityam aniyatām. Therefore Cāṇakya Paṇḍita says, smara nityam aniyatām. This anitya, temporary… Dreaming is always temporary. So we must know that whatever we possess, whatever we are seeing, these are all dream, temporary. Therefore if we become engrossed with the temporary things, so-called socialism, nationalism, family- ism or this-ism, that-ism, and waste our time, without cultivating Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then that is called śrama eva hi kevalam, simply wasting our time, creating another body. Our own business is that we should know that “I am not this dream. I am fact, spiritual fact. So I have got a different business.” That is called spiritual life. That is spiritual life, when we understand that “I am Brahman. I am not this matter.” Brahma-bhūtaḥ." Bhagavad-gītā 2.15 by His Divine Grace A. C. Just learn how to make out of a weakness a strength. Noboday hates you because of stammering, but if you think this is bad and feel confused than others treat you according your own way of lacking self-confidence. If you beam down that your stammering is likable than you see that people accept you as you are.

Thanks Indulekhadasi, liquor drinking surely also signals that with the present quality and setting of the human mind they're not satisfied/ totally unhappy. They are changing the human mind's settings by using liquor. Material nature says, well, as human being you struggled so hard to change the situation of your mind, here you get a mind which is so much tamasic that you haven't to add anything anmore, it is already fully illusioned. This is the meaning of self-provoked reincarnation. And still, do they actually achieve peace of mind by drinking liquor? Rather they write advertisements like this: How to achieve peace of mind Submitted by jswami on March 23, 2008 - 4:28am. For those who doubt we live in a world where peace is attainable, I saw this advertisement today in Leicester, UK, in the window of a mortician: “Discover the peace of mind that comes from planning and paying towards your funeral.”

Democracy Bad for Krishna Consciousness
suchandra replied to suchandra's topic in The Hare Krishna Forum
Thanks for asking this question and adding, "Think before you speak. Think before you write". Well it makes me think before I write how the Vaishnavas created so much chaos. In fact we have to even consider that if all this confusion about proper leadership within the Vaishnava institutions did not also influence the whole planet's ongoing development towards the final destiny of hellish kali-yuga? The Vaishnava institutions to be complicit of globally getting out of hand kali-yuga? This is it what concerned people are asking. Just like where did they arrive today - installing a questionable system of absolutism by expecting of the followers to worship a direct representative of God, but adding small print, since 35 of these kind already fell down, the responsibility if your guru is trustworthy lies on you. No guarantee. In sum, Vaishnavas should first of all master their own inside run-down homework of properly uniting all these splinter camps - camps which are in itself far too small and too weak to implement Lord Caitanya's order of successfully spreading the Holy Name on all the continents and are basically presently struggling with internal maintenance, what to speak of imparting real knowledge on vedic wisdom in human society large scale. And then come back and believably discuss, "So who is to decide who the monarch should be?" -
The religions should also understand that presently they're all under attack and like cry for help (see article below) from Christians in Iraq, things are not very different anywhere else. War against Christianity, war against Hinduism, war against the Hare Krishnas...Since any war has one loser and one winner time to wake up and do the needful. The War Against Christianity Hussein Al-Alak – April 25, 2008 There is a war against Iraq’s Christians taking place, at the behest of two allegedly Christ-loving regimes and one supposed Islamic government, with one commonality being their need to hide behind the walls of Jericho to carry out the persecution of men, women and children. How else can any one describe the systematic ethnic cleansing of Iraq’s Christians, who were born and raised in the land between two rivers, the land which gave birth to the founder of the three major religions and whose lineage of Judaism, Christianity and Islam is now the land which being destroyed at the hands of “god fearing” heathens. It has been five years and still silence is the golden fleece for Britain and America. They have chosen to ignore the murders - the beheadings, the attacks, the forced displacement and increases in taxation upon the Christians for refusing to convert, the intimidation by militias upon women for not wearing a headscarf . Most Christians in Iraq are Chaldeans, members of an Eastern Rite denomination that recognizes the pope's authority. Other sizable denominations include the Assyrian Catholic Church, which traces its roots to the 1st century. Iraqi Christians are also affiliated with the Church of the East, the Anglican Church and other Protestant faiths. Pope Benedict XVI and President Bush said that in a meeting last week they discussed the "precarious state" of Christian communities in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. The Bishop of Mosul reported in 2006 that a “fourteen year old boy was crucified in Al Basra” and how members of the US/UK trained Iraqi Police forces, have assaulted “civilian passers-by with anti-Christian and racist slurs” - grotesque acts which apparently Britain takes seriously within its own borders, when addressing “institutional racism” in the police force and cases relating to honour killings against its own civilians. But how the West has turned the other cheek, when Paulos Iskandar the Syriac-Orhtodox priest was beheaded in October 2006, and how they failed to act when reports emerged from Iraqi newspaper Azzaman, when they reported that US troops were taking over churches and using them for military purposes, with over fifty percent of Iraq’s Christians having believed to have already fled. In March this year, Paulos Faraj Rahho, archbishop of Mosul's Chaldean community, was found dead after being abducted. This month, Youssef Adel, an Assyrian Orthodox priest, was fatally shot in a drive-by attack in Karrada, one of Baghdad's safest neighbourhoods and home to Abdal's Holy Catholic Assyrian Church Let's not forget the looting of churches, the bomb attacks carried out against congregations. Let's remember the priests, decons and other members of the Christian Church who have become the victims of sectarian kidnappings, and how militias have taken their hatred of a multi-national society and left their victims' heads on the doorsteps of God's holy “house“. The Western response has been typically quiet, and in an effort to be emphasise its multi-cultural credentials, the Socialist Worker reported how the, “highlight” of one Stop the War Coalition demonstration in “Red” Ken Livingston’s London was Sheikh Zagani, foreign affairs spokesperson for Moqtada al-Sadr, who under the noses of New Labour, MI5, MI6 and the Foreign Office announced to 100,000 non-Burkha-wearing British people that, “We are the voice of humanity,” but failed to mention the murders of Christians, Palestinians, Shiite, Sunni, the destruction of ancient sites, the collapse of the health service, the murder of academics, and growing illiteracy. Asia News has also reported that the Iranian-backed Mehdi Army death squads, have been threatening women into the forced wearing of the “veil”, with IRIN reporting how the Mehdi have also been responsible for the “hunting” down of women for “religious reasons or because they had criticised the militants” or, as one resident put it, "They accuse them [the women victims] of different things such as prostitution, or of being informants for Iraqi and US forces, or of not wearing a headscarf or for wearing Western clothes," Al-Sadr’s forces have also been responsible for the murders of homosexuals, which they claim to be “sexual perverts”, along with having murdered members of Iraq’s Palestinians community. Unlike the Mehdi Army, which was brought to Iraq in 2003, the Palestinian community has been resident in the country since the creation of the state of Israel. It is perhaps hardly surprising that the US and UK should fail to act upon the plight of the Christians, when most people in “liberated” Britain don’t even know that under Saddam Hussain, the various religions were celebrated and not persecuted, and that many in the US still think that Saddam was behind the 9/11 twin towers attack. At present, Iraq’s Christians are one of the few communities left which do not have their own army to protect themselves, something that maybe the Christian community should consider as being essential, if only to assist and save the lives of religious minorities against slaughter in present-day Iraq. Nice website about: Visiting birthplace of Nityananda Prabhu http://bhnpetra.blogspot.com/2008/04/birthplace-of-nityandanda-prabhu.html Quite near Mayapur in terms of India (5 hours of drivng by bus) is a birthplace of Lord Nityananda Prabhu - Ekacakra which is beautiful, peaceful village. People here are much more simple and they don't boder you at all; ok except children The whole drive was almost 10 hours in one day but it was definitely worth it. Immediately after caming there Nityananda started to play with us. After coming from the bus we just followed devotees in front of us. When we came to the first place they started speaking in Russian and we realized that we are in Russian group and that we are missing our guide. Anupama mataji commented that we have to 'follow devotees with inteligence not blindly as we did We went back and on the way we met our guide on a motorcycle. Behind him is Srila Prabhupada's disciple from France who also joined our group. On the bus he was sitting next to be so I got some Prabhupada nectar. Somehow we make an agreement about how to continue wheather take villige guide or just follow our 'little space ou guide' and we went around Ekacakra. First we took darshan of Nityananda Prabhu in the main temple. Since it is forbiden to take photos I don't have any. Then we walked around this auspicious place while hearing different pastimes. Thanks thehat, yes, Theist is such a nice philosopher, hopefully many souls in the world wide web will develop interest in the path of bhakti by his example. And who nowadays is an example? Things surely haven't changed: Dhṛṣṭadyumna: My father, he’s the president of this liquor company, and they study the charts to see who is drinking the most. And they have discovered that the biggest drinkers in the world are the politicians in Washington, D.C., that they drink more liquor than anyone. Prabhupāda: Yes. They have got so many anxieties. So many anxieties. Garden Conversation with His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda June 14, 1976, Detroit full lecture: http://causelessmercy.com/t/t/760614gc.det.htm

This is getting more and more kali-yuga? The New York Times: Millions of Americans are behind on electric and gas bills By ERIK ECKHOLM http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/25/us/25heating.html?_r=3&ex=1366862400&en=c5406b9b1c6725c3&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin Published: April 25, 2008 <!--NYT_INLINE_IMAGE_POSITION1 --> <nyt_text> </nyt_text>After struggling with soaring heating costs through the winter, millions of Americans are behind on electric and gas bills, and a record number of families could face energy shut-offs over the next two months, according to state energy officials and utilities around the country. The escalating costs of heating oil, propane and kerosene, most commonly used in the Northeast, have posed the greatest burdens, officials say, but natural gas and electricity prices have also climbed at a time when low-end incomes are stagnant and prices have also jumped for food and gasoline. In New Hampshire, applicants for fuel subsidies under the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program received an average of $600 in a one-time grant and up to $975 for the extremely poor who rely on heating oil or propane, the costliest fuels. But those grants, which in recent years have covered 60 percent of heating costs, covered only about 35 percent of those costs this winter, said Celeste Lovett, director of the state’s energy aid program. The state will have given aid to about 34,500 people by the end of April, Ms. Lovett said, a 5 percent increase over last year and the highest number ever. The most immediate challenge is to help the high number of consumers who are far behind in electric and gas payments, said Mark Wolfe, director of the National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association, which represents state aid officials in Washington. “Based on discussions with major utility companies around the country, we will see record numbers of families facing shut-offs,” Mr. Wolfe said. Rhode Island officials, for example, expect shut-offs in 2008 to surpass the record of 30,000 set in 2007. In Pennsylvania, applications for “crisis grants” for those whose oil tanks are empty or who face an imminent utilities cutoff totaled about 133,000 in each of the last two years but have already reached 166,000 this year, said Linda Blanchette, deputy secretary of income maintenance. And in New York, the number of households that received aid increased by 5 percent in the last year, to 895,000. Under the federal aid program, at least 5.8 million households will have received grants to help with heating bills in this fiscal year, ending Sept. 30, which is an increase of 3.7 percent from last year, according to figures to be issued Friday by the Energy Assistance Directors’ Association. This is the highest number in 16 years, Mr. Wolfe said. And the numbers would have been higher if some states had not been forced to reduce the number of aid recipients by increasing grants or tightening eligibility requirements — in effect choosing to provide more aid to fewer people. Christopher Powden, a jewelry repairer in Goffstown, N.H., with a family of five, managed to pay his electric bills but fell behind on heating oil. “It was a long winter and the cost of oil was exorbitant, and when you add in the cost of electricity it’s impossible to keep up,” Mr. Powden said. Refilling his oil tank this winter cost nearly $3,000, he said, but his grant from the aid program was only $365 and he owes the oil company $535, plus interest. Mr. Powden needs the tank refilled this spring because the same furnace provides hot water. But the company will not make another delivery until he pays off the arrears. The federal assistance program, known as Liheap, was started in 1980, to help families cope with sharply rising oil prices and energy deregulation, and it has become a routine part of the safety net. Unlike food stamps, which the government must automatically provide to eligible applicants, the program relies on annual Congressional appropriations that have not risen as much as the cost of energy. Many states are calling on Congress to quickly add a $1 billion supplement to the federal aid program, which has provided $2.6 billion to low-income families in the current fiscal year. Without extra aid, people who still owe large sums to oil vendors will not be able to get deliveries next fall, Ms. Lovett said, and many who did not pay electric and gas bills during New Hampshire’s winter moratorium on shut-offs may soon lose those services. full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/25/us/25heating.html?_r=3&ex=1366862400&en=c5406b9b1c6725c3&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Yesterday the new law became valid. What that means - materially, the taxpayer is burdened to pay for the magisterial institution. Spiritually, sanctioned by the government - people are legally permitted to increase their material lust without taking the responsibility of raising children. Tamas ki jaya! Well, meanwhile it successfully is spreading outside USA, whereas Krishna consciousness is degrading, Vaishnavism checkmate? Recognition of gay unions in Austria Austria Getting Gay Marriage? Politico Drafting Historic Bill <!-- 'HeadlineImageWrap' close --> Things are looking up in Austria, where politicians are drafting a gay marriage law. In an attempt to end years of political dispute Austria’s Social Democrat Justice Minister Maria Berger Wednesday introduced a first draft for a law granting gay couples the same rights as heterosexuals. The so-called registered partnership shows a number of parallels with traditional marriage law, complete with similar rights and duties, but was no “marriage light” Berger stressed and was independent of current marriage legislation. … Berger’s draft will be discussed by a bipartisan working group before being introduced to parliament by the end of this year. Thanks for sharing your concerns about the pope, could be that we're not really in that position that someone is interested to know from us if we like the pope or not. From an internet news channel about what pope Benedict is doing all day but still people like RadheRade1657 reject him. What you want more? "Now Pope Benedict, following in the footsteps of his brow-beaten predecessor, Pope John Paul, who apologized to the Jews for the so-called “wrongs inflicted on Jews by Christians,” has cowtowed to the Jews. How so? By caving into the demands of Rabbi David Rosen, the head of the Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations, last week. Rabbi Rosen demanded that Pope Benedict excise references to the “blindness” and “darkness” of the Jews in a Good Friday prayer that calls for their conversion to Christianity. The prayer originally read: — “Almighty God, you do not refuse your mercy even to the perfidious Jews; Hear the prayers which we offer for their blindness so that they may acknowledge Christ and be delivered from their darkness.” — The apt adjective “perfidious” was unfortunately removed by Pope John in 1959. But the Jews were still not satisfied. So Pope Benedict bowed to their pressure last week and took out the words “blindness” and “darkness” of the Jews."

Latest 3D Animation Model of the Vedic Planetarium Temple
suchandra replied to Sarva gattah's topic in Spiritual Discussions
Somehow the question arises, how could the planetarium inside the dome explain more what we know already? http://indianskyscraperblog.wordpress.com/2007/07/13/the-temple-of-vedic-planetarium-mayapur-india-the-world%E2%80%99s-tallest-hindu-temple-35-storeys-part-2/#comment-2179 Vedic Temple as a Planetarium The objective of this Adbhuta Mandira is the exposition of the Vedic cosmology. This theme is present in every stage and aspect of the design. The very proportions and geometry of the Temple, both externally and internally, are reflections of the cosmic design. Within the Temple, each space will house artistic exhibits. A variety of ideas have been developed which will work harmoniously with the interior spaces. —–==–=–==—– Temple Construction Phases The Temple is designed from the outset to be easily, cheaply and ascetically built in modular phases from the foundation to the Shikara. According to the project’s Managing Director, Abhirama Dasa, the temple itself can be completed and opened for tours within six years and cost less than $20m to build. The very basic groundwork prep on the Temple has begun, but as of yet construction of the Temple elf has not started. The the Temple was expected to be completed by 2010, though due to very heated last minute politcal wrangling with the West Bengal state government (an elected communist government.. go figure) who, fearful of losing political power at the draw this project will have, threw up a slew of insane roadblocks that do not have much legal foundation but will take time in overcoming, I personally don’t see it finishing until the 2013 at the least. -
Hundreds of EPA scientists report political interference LA TIMES http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-epa24apr24%2C1%2C5692736.story An official with the independent group that conducted the survey says it indicates the widespread nature of the problem. By Judy Pasternak, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer April 24, 2008 WASHINGTON -- More than half of the scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency who responded to a survey said they had experienced political interference in their work. The survey results show "an agency under siege from political pressures," said the Union of Concerned Scientists report, which was released Wednesday and sent to EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. EPA chief is said to have ignored staff Outspoken scientist dismissed from panel on chemical safety The online questionnaire was sent to 5,419 EPA scientists last summer; 1,586 replied, and of those, 889 reported that they had experienced at least one type of interference within the last five years. Such allegations are not new: During much of the Bush administration, there have been reports of the White House watering down documents on climate change, industry language inserted into EPA power-plant regulations and scientific advisory panels' conclusions about toxic chemicals going unheeded. But Francesca Grifo, director of the scientific integrity program for the Union of Concerned Scientists, a Washington-based nonprofit group, said the survey documented the widespread nature of the problem at the EPA. "What we've been up against until now is anecdotal evidence," Grifo said. She acknowledged that scientists who were frustrated or upset might have been more likely than those who were satisfied to respond to her organization's survey, but added: "Nearly 900 EPA scientists reported political interference in their scientific work. That's 900 too many." EPA spokesman Jonathan Shradar noted that administrator Johnson had had a 27-year career as a scientist himself. "We have the best and finest scientific community in the world at EPA," Shradar said. "All of the issues we deal with are issues that we all are very passionate about. It's important that we let the scientists do the science and allow policymakers to do the policy work." The survey respondents were split over the impact of political interference on regulations. According to the report, 48% believed that the EPA's actions were "frequently or always" consistent with scientific findings, and 47% believed that agency policy "occasionally, seldom or never" made use of scientific judgments. In optional essays, scientists repeatedly singled out the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, accusing officials there of inserting themselves into decision-making at early stages in a way that shaped the outcome of their inquiries. They also alleged that the OMB delayed rules not to its liking. EPA actions "are held hostage" until changes are made, a scientist from the EPA's Office of Air and Radiation wrote. Some also accused members of Congress of inappropriate intervention. All of the respondents remained anonymous. J. William Hirzy, an EPA senior scientist and union official, said that politics trumped science at times during the Clinton administration as well but that "what we're seeing now is . . . the favoring of energy interests, coal-fired power plants. That's something different in this administration." Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) wrote to Johnson on Wednesday asking him to be prepared to respond to the findings at a hearing next month of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. judy.pasternak@latimes.com

There're surely lots of people who have not studied religion and who also don't know very much about Christ, actually nowadays many people in the West, even those who claim to be Christians, don't know very much about comparative studies of religion. But still, when they hear about the behaviour of personalities like Jesus, they consider this as speaking for itself - no further explanations required. "This is the position of sādhu. He is not disturbed. Titikṣavaḥ. In all circumstances, he is tolerant. That is sādhu. Sādhu does not become disturbed. Titikṣavaḥ. At the same time, kāruṇikāḥ. He is himself disturbed, but he is merciful to others. Just like Jesus Christ. He is being crucified, and still he is merciful: “Father, these people do not know what they are doing. Please excuse them.” This is sādhu. He is personally being disturbed by the demons, but still, he is merciful to the general people. They are suffering for want of Krishna consciousness. So even up to the point of death, he is trying to preach Krishna consciousness. “Let the people be benefited. Eh, what is this material body? Even if I am killed, I am not killed. This body is killed, that’s all.” This is sādhu. Titikṣavaḥ kāruṇikāḥ. In one side he is tolerant, and other side, merciful. In the material world, when one man is disturbed, he cannot do any beneficial work to any others. He is disturbed. “No, I am very much disturbed. Don’t talk with me.” No. But sādhu still goes on benefiting the people in general. Titikṣavaḥ kāruṇikāḥ. And what kind of benefit? The so-called rascals humanitarian work? No. Suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām. He is beneficial to all kinds of living entities." Bhagavad-gītā 1.21-22 by His Divine Grace A. C. Below it says - "I constructed this nice house for living happily, but there was fire and everything finished" - whatever we do, maya is never satisfied. "There was a brāhmaṇa. He said like this: “My dear Lord Krishna, I am now servant. I have served so much.” Kāmādīnāṁ kati na katidhā durnideśāḥ. “I have served them so nicely that I had to execute something which is abominable.” If you become servant of somebody, if he says that “You have to do it,” your conscience does not allow you to do it. Still, you have to do it. A man is stealing for family. He does not like to steal. Still, he is in need of money; he has to steal. Kāmādīnāṁ kati na katidhā pālitā durnideśāḥ. This is study, study the psychological condition. When I become servant of māyā, even I do not wish to do something which is not very good, still I am obliged to do it. But the result is that nobody is satisfied. The same example. Just like Gandhi served his country so much, so nicely, so voluntarily. Still, the result was he was killed by his countryman. Just see. Result was, the reward was that he served his country so much. It is undoubtedly, nobody can serve so sincerely. Everybody knows. Both Indira Gandhi and her son Rajiv served as prime ministers of India. Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984. Rajiv Gandhi became prime minister after her assassination. Later he was also killed. But the result was even a person like Mahatma Gandhi was killed by his countrymen. Just this morning Mrs. Sharma was telling that she has worked so much for the family, but still, the sons and daughters, they want, “No, no, you cannot go. You serve us. We are not satisfied yet.” They will never be satisfied. You serve māyā. The māyā will never be satisfied. Teṣāṁ na karuṇā jāta na trapā nopaśānti. The intelligent man is speaking, “My dear Lord, I have served my senses, lust, anger, greediness, so much so. Still, they are not kind upon me. They are still dictating, still dictating, ‘Do this, do this, do this.’ Therefore,” samprataṁ labdha buddhi, “ now I have got intelligence by Your grace.” Guru-krishna-kṛpayā. “By the grace of my spiritual master, by the grace of yourself, I have got this intelligence. Now I have come to You, to serve. Kindly engage me.” This is surrender. “I have served my senses, lust, greediness, and other things so faithfully. They are not satisfied. They still want me to serve. They are not going to give me pension. They want still, ‘Oh what you have done? You have to do so many things.’ So now I am disgusted.” This is called vairāgya. Vairāgya. Jñāna-vairāgya- yuktayā. This is required. In human life, this is, this intelligence required, vairāgya, not to serve this material world, but to serve Krishna." Battlefield Bhajans By Partha Sarathi Dasa on 23 Apr 2008 US Military Base, Iraq, April 17, 2008 – It’s my fifth year on active duty as a sergeant here in Iraq, and I’m back doing missions, which means long days. But I still rise early, worship my salagram sila deities of the Lord, and chant Hare Krishna as if I can die at any moment – which, here, is a reality. Twenty-two soldiers now come for the mangal arati service I hold in the dorms, and we hold other Krishna conscious programs too. During one of these, the incoming alert system suddenly blasted into our ears. A second later, a rocket impacted one hundred feet from our “ashram.” I directed everyone to run to the bunker, grabbing my salagram silas and mrdanga drum as I dashed after them. I knew that I might be waiting in the cramped little bunker for a long time. That’s how rocket and mortar attacks are. Sometimes there’s only one rocket – but sometimes there’s five or six. Everyone in the bunker stared at me as I ran in with the Lord and my weird-looking drum. I placed the silas down on a box, and slowly people started coming up to me to ask questions. I explained how the Lord comes in His deity form, and told them about the Holy Name. They listened with rapt attention. As I taught them how to chant the Maha-mantra, I could see that their minds were gradually becoming fixed on it. They asked if I could play the drum, and I showed them a little. I suggested we all sing to pass the time. One man disagreed and had some negative comments to offer, but he was far outnumbered and everyone began singing, nervously at first, but loosing their inhibitions as time went on and giving their hearts to the Holy Name. Some closed their eyes and strained with concentration, while others wore huge smiles – but all were chanting as loud as they could. We chanted on and on, not even hearing the announcement that all was clear. Soon others from outside heard the bhajans (devotional songs) and joined us in the bunker. When we finished, I looked at my watch. Two hours had passed. As we left the bunker, one girl and a few boys talked with me and asked if they could come chant with me everyday. Once again here in Iraq, we experienced the mercy and compassion that Srila Prabhupada has given us. We saw through his eyes the happiness that the Holy Name brings. And in a place where people see death everyday, they managed to forget about it for once and instead focus on their relationship with the Lord.

Sri Sri Nitai Gaura arrive at U.S. Army base 347 Views / EMail This Post / Print This Post / Home » Sri Sri Nitai Gaura arrive at U.S. Army base <!-- end .post-top --> <!-- the main section of the post goes here --> By Mitravinda devi dasi The full moon of the month of Phalguna shines down upon the soldier-medics at Fort Sam Houston Texas. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu would appear in His Deity form for the pleasure of His devotees. His arrival at this US Army base would be glorious, in a small cloth covered postal package coming from Vrndavana India. The Lord would create a stir, anticipation and wonder as to His presence. Every week packages arrive from devotees all over the country containing prasadam cookies for the troops. Mail arrives uneventful usually several days delayed. This package was different. It arrived on time and became an urgent pick up. For some reason Sergeant Mack took up this mission to find me and make sure that no matter what I would get this package today. Sergeant Mack is a large black bodied soldier, I do not know him personally just seen him around the company. He is well known as the kindest authority willing to go that extra mile to serve the soldiers in his command. It has been said that he is a very good medic with several combat tours under his belt. He became fixed upon this package containing 6” Gaura Nitai Deities. Which he was unaware. All morning it was reported he carried the package around looking for me. This day we were not in our classrooms; we were out doing field training. Low crawling in the dirt, suppressing fire, and dealing with simulated traumatic injuries. Sergeant Mack did not know who I was or what team I was working, just that I was out there somewhere. He sent messengers looking for me with orders to find me and report to the mail room immediately. Nobody has ever been excused from field training, certainly not over mail. The mail room would close at 3:00 pm, the postal soldiers were ordered to remain open until the package was claimed. At 2:50 pm several messengers were coming down the hill yelling my name. My leaving the field angered the instructors but what could they do? Orders from Sergeant Mack. I arrived at the mail room 3:30 pm, the postal duty soldiers were awestruck. The package smelled good, it did not smell like cookies this time, it smelled like flowers or perfume. It was covered in cloth. They were dying to see what was inside. What has come from India? Open the box! The female soldiers were captivated the most following me back to the barracks so that I could secure The Lords in my locker and return to the field. On the walk back I explained the process of Deity worship and the mercy of Lord Chaitanya and Nityananda on this most auspicious day of Gaura Purnima. They took turns carrying the box; each soldier wanted the chance to carry the Lords back to the barracks. It reminded me of Ratha Yatra. I was happy to give each soldier a turn to carry the box. The box had to be inspected as all incoming packages are. Half a dozen Sergeants participated in the inspection. Pulling out bundles wrapped in Hindi newspaper, I let each soldier unwrap the contents. There were no flowers or incense. The sweet scent emanating from the box must have been from the dust of Vrndavana. Each item of an aroti tray was revealed. I explained each item. Lord Nityananda was revealed first then Mahaprabhu. All Their clothes, crowns and jewelry. “Tonight after we take showers we can dress and decorate Them.” I told the soldiers. We females are dirty, sweaty, bear arms and train with our male contempories. Watching the females eagerly participate reminded me that we are still women, ladies at heart. The overwhelming fascination of Deity dressing, decorating and worship is the nature of the soul, especially the nature of woman. That evening several soldiers stayed back to take care of Sri Sri Nitai Gaura. They learned how to use tilak and lemon juice to clean brass with cotton balls. Lord Nityananda is a little taller than Mahaprabhu and the spoon is to clean the right hand with water drops- one handed took some practice. When I looked out the barracks window I saw the night sky and the beautiful full moon shining. We improvised an altar made of new clean brown army issued towels and new uniform cloth. I went to thank Sergeant Mack for his determination in making sure I got this special package. He humbly said it was just his job; he was doing his job taking care of the special needs of his soldiers. Going that extra mile….He did not realize that extra mile was for Lord Chaitanya’s pleasure. Orders are in… I have been assigned to a medical unit in Colorado that will deploy to Iraq in August 2008. Next Gaura Purnima Sri Sri Nitai Gaura will spend Their holiday in Bagdad. convert this post to pdf.

Looks like the nations of the antique world (Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Belarus, etc.) will soon be ready to receive Lord Caitanya's Sankirtan Movement. New jobs set for 2 U.S. commanders with Iraq role Tom Shanker – International Herald Tribune April 24, 2008 General David Petraeus at Baghdad's Muttana air base on Tuesday. A Pentagon plan to elevate General David Petraeus and his former deputy means that the two commanders most closely associated with President George W. Bush's current strategy in Iraq will have responsibilities over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan extending into the next administration. Petraeus would take charge of all military affairs across the Middle East and Central Asia and would be succeeded as the senior commander in Iraq by Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno, who returned to Washington in February after serving 15 months as Petraeus's deputy. Asked whether the planned nominations by Bush were a sign that U.S. policy was to "stay the course" in Iraq, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday that the security gains that had been achieved under Petraeus's command meant that "staying that course is not a bad idea." The nomination of Petraeus could, however, portend a renewed U.S. focus on Afghanistan, where the American war effort is widely believed to be lagging, with violence by the Taliban and Al Qaeda on the rise. Gates already has expressed the desire to send several thousand additional troops to Afghanistan next year, although that could require further reductions in troop commitments to Iraq. Petraeus would be expected to apply his views of counterinsurgency to Afghanistan, which may include a push toward increased troops. Gates said he and Bush settled on Petraeus for the post because his counterinsurgency experience in Iraq made him best suited to oversee U.S. operations across a region where the United States was engaged in "asymmetric" warfare, a term used to describe the fight against militants and nonuniformed combatants. The previous Central Command chief, Admiral William Fallon, chose early retirement in March after rankling the Bush administration with public comments that seemed to suggest differences with the White House. If Petraeus and Odierno were to win Senate confirmation to their new posts, Gates said, they would take over in late summer or early autumn. The situation in Iraq remains fragile, as Petraeus acknowledged in testimony to Congress this month when he warned that recent security gains could be easily reversed. Under his command, an increase in U.S. forces brought troop levels as high as 165,000, and even critics of the increase say it contributed to a decline in violence, along with the cease-fire proclaimed by the Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr for his militia, the Mahdi army, and a shift in sentiment among Sunni tribes that turned them against Sunni militants. Among the three major candidates still vying to become the next president, Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, has defended the idea of maintaining high troop levels even after the troop increase runs its course in July, bringing the number down to slightly more than 140,000. The two Democratic contenders, Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, by contrast, have pressed for troop reductions at a pace far faster than those Petraeus has endorsed and have pledged to carry out withdrawals even if it meant going against the advice of field commanders. It would be unusual for a new president to replace a senior general new to his assignment. In a statement, Clinton described Petraeus as "an able and respected leader in Iraq under incredibly difficult circumstances," and said she looked forward to hearing "how he will meet these important challenges" of the broader Central Command region. McCain, at a news conference Wednesday, said that Odierno "is maybe not perfect, but I think he has done a magnificent job." Referring to Petraeus, McCain said, "I think he is by far the best-qualified individual to take that job" as the regional commander. www.iht.com/articles/2008/04/24/mideast/centcom.php

Letter by Prabhupada to highlight that it is not so easy to become a Vaishnava. Saturday, December 30, 1967 San Francisco, Calif. My Dear Madhusudana, Please accept my blessings. I am so happy to read your letter dated Dec. 28, 1967. And I am very concerned that due to your sincerity and service mood you have improved in Krishna Consciousness excellently. Whatever allocation of duty there may be, if we try to execute such specific duty sincerely, that alone can make us much more advanced in Krishna Consciousness. In the Bhagavad-gita, it is stated that for the fixed up devotee there is one duty. This duty is understood through the transparent medium via media of the Spiritual Master. It is better service to Krishna and Spiritual Master in a feeling of separation; sometimes there is risk in the matter of direct service. For example, Kirtanananda was giving me direct service by massaging, cooking for me, and so many other things; but later on by dictation of Maya, he became puffed up, so much so that he thought his Spiritual Master a common man, and was existing only on account of his service. This mentality at once pushed him down. Of course, those who are sincere devotee, they take direct service as an opportunity, but the illusory energy is so strong that it acts on this doctrine of familiarity breeds contempt. Kirtanananda was thinking I was existing on his service, instead of realizing I was giving him opportunity to do me some service.

Below a conversation about the smell when something like puris are fried in ghee. Seems like there're people who even can't bear the smell of ghee. Prabhupāda: And in Burma, my Guru Mahārāja opened a branch. So when they were frying puri, the, nice ghee, all the tenants, “Oh! What you are…!?” They cannot tolerate. But in Burma, there is a preparation which is called nafi. The nafi means that a, a big jar will be kept on the door, and whatever animals, insect, cockroaches will die, they’ll put in that. And during rainy season, it will be filled with water. And it will be kept for years. Then… And the bad smell was so terrible that if somebody would open the lid, it will immediately create very bad smell. So after some years, they will strain the water and keep in bottle. And when there is festival, they’ll supply it in small… That is called nafi. And they’ll take it very pleasantly. And when they were frying ghee, “Oh! What you are doing, this?!” Morning Walk Conversation with His Divine Grace A. C. Could be that Vaishnavas in the West have to be more merciful to pick up people where they're stuck and gradually when there's more advancement introduce ghee. Below a discussion to sell Australian ghee to India. Bali-mardana: But now they are going to cut down the amount of ghee they make, because not many countries are buying ghee. Prabhupāda: India is not buying? Bali-mardana: Not so much. Prabhupāda: They have learned to eat meat. Meat-eaters, they don’t like ghee. Meat-eaters, they say (Hindi)."A dog cannot digest ghee". Because they are meat-eaters. Bhāgavata: Here’s some more ghee. Bali-mardana: These are all the book distributors. They have all come for your darśana with ghee. Bhāgavata: Soon I will not be able to see you. Jayatīrtha: Also meat-eaters can’t stand the smell of ghee cooking. No? Prabhupāda: This ghee should be distributed in all our Indian centers. Prabhupāda: No, the Amer…, is ten rupees. It is one kilo? Bhāgavata: This is two kilos. Four pounds, 6.5. Prabhupāda: So about five rupees per kilo. Very cheap. This is export quality, is much higher quality. Higher…

How have we fallen in this material world?
suchandra replied to krsna's topic in Spiritual Discussions
How it slightly sounds out when reading posts of the conception, "we somehow fell from the Brahmajyoti", that there's an inexplicable injustice involved why we came here. Remember, the living entity transmigrates through millions of forms when finally reaching the human form. It should be clear that the underlying principle of this really long journey must be a deliberate decision and not some vage mistake why the jiva is put under the spell of material illusion. sleeping sadhu Devotee (4): Śrīla Prabhupāda, you say in your books so many times that somehow or other we have fallen into this material world due to our enviousness or our independence. Prabhupāda: Many, there are many reasons. Devotee (4): I can’t seem to get a grasp on this at all. If we in our original constitutional position as part and parcel of Krishna, and in that position, that original position of full knowledge and full bliss and being in our eternal nature… Now I have some experience of how strong this material energy is and how māyā works somewhat, but if I had known this and had this full knowledge, then I would have had this knowledge of how māyā works and how I might fall. Prabhupāda: You read the life of Jaya, Vijaya, Hiraṇyakaśipu, Hiraṇyākṣa? They were Kṛṣṇa’s doorkeepers. How they fell down? Did you read it? Did you read the life of Hiraṇyakaśipu or Hiraṇyākṣa? Devotee (4): Yes, Prabhupāda. Prabhupāda: So how they did fall? They are from Vaikuṇṭha. They are Krishna’s personal associates, keeping the doorkeepers. How did they fell down? Anyway, there is chance of falling down at any moment. Devotee (4): Well, in his family they wanted to enjoy the material world. Prabhupāda: Whatever it may be, the falldown is there. So because we are living entities, we are not as powerful as Krishna, therefore we may fall down from Vaikuṇṭha at any moment. Icchā-dveṣa samutthena sarge yānti parantapa. Find out this verse. Puṣṭa Krishna: icchā-dveṣa samutthena dvandva-mohena bhārata sarva-bhūtāni sammohaṁ sarge yānti parantapa “O scion of Bharata [Arjuna], O conqueror of the foe, all living entities are born into delusion, overcome by the dualities of desire and hate.” Prabhupāda: Purport. Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa: “The real constitutional position of the living entity is that of subordination to the Supreme Lord, who is pure knowledge. When one is deluded into separation from this pure knowledge, he becomes controlled by illusory energy and cannot understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The illusory energy is manifested in the duality of desire and hate. Due to desire and hate the ignorant person wants to become one with the Supreme Lord and envies Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Pure devotees, who are not so deluded or contaminated by desire and hate, can understand that Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa appears by His internal potencies. But those who are deluded by duality and nescience think that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is created by material energies. This is their misfortune. Such deluded persons symptomatically dwell in dualities of dishonor and honor, misery and happiness, woman and man, good and bad, pleasure and pain, etc., thinking ‘This is my wife, this is my house; I am the master of this house, I am the husband of this wife.’ These are the dualities of delusion. Those who are so deluded by dualities are completely foolish and cannot understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead.” Prabhupāda: So even in the Vaikuṇṭha, if I desire that “Why shall I serve Krishna? Why not become Krishna?” I immediately fall down. That is natural. A servant is serving the master, sometimes he may think that “If I could become the master.” They are thinking like that, they are trying to become God. That is delusion. You cannot become God. That is not possible. But he’s wrongly thinking. Vipina: Why doesn’t Krishna protect us from that desire? Prabhupāda: He’s protecting. He says, “You rascal, don’t desire, surrender unto Me.” But you are rascal, you do not do this. Vipina: Why doesn’t He save me from thinking like that? Prabhupāda: That means you lose your independence. Evening Darśana by His Divine Grace A. C.
