  1. This is very encouraging that you and Guruvani agree - we all surely wish you well in debating the esoteric aspects of the philosophy!
  2. Such explanations about the living entity somehow makes one ask, why Krishna created the living entities in the first place? - And do we need "Vaishnavism" for such kind of religious wisdom? Krishna created the living entities for His pleasure, they're His eternal children and He wants them to come back to His eternal kingdom to enjoy eternal blissful live in the spiritual world. If we have so much it should be clear that the falldown into this material world is nothing but the son who left the shelter of the father. Since we are individuals we all have individual stories of our falldown into this material world. Why turn Vaishnavism into a strange weird meander of technical dogmas which no one can comprehend?
  3. Where're the nagas? Good question, Lord Ananta or Lord Sesa is the power which sustains all the planets in their different positions. Materially this sustaining power is known as the law of gravitation, but actually it is a display of the potency of Lord Sankarsana. Since present Vaishnavism allows full bent to materialistic scientists to explain the functioning of Krishna's Universe according their materialistic approach of research it should be clear that they fall prey of material illusion. On the other hand, Prabhupada considered this as important to not let modern science spread their "accomplishments" uncommented. What happened is that till today other GM groups considered Prabhupada's effort in this direction, to dovetail scientific research with the preaching of bhagavat-dharma as "contaminated by santa-rasa". Usually at Vaishnava forums you'll find that such kind of topic is immediately classified as non-spiritual discussion, people overstrained to consider things which are obviously related with Krishna as preaching tool. What makes me often ask this questions when examining lectures by present Vaishnava leaders to a crowd of newcomers in Vaishnavism, do these Vaishnavas actually know how to preach? Meanwhile scientists draw attention "to know the truth" more than anyone else - also in areas where they're more or less only speculating by presenting headlines to our school children in this way: Rotation and Magnetism of Earth's Inner Core The stability of the earth's core and the geodynamo Earth's Core and the Geodynamo Planet Within a Planet: Rotation of the Inner Core of Earth A Laboratory Model for Convection in Earth's Core Driven by a Thermally Heterogeneous Mantle The Inner Core Translational Triplet and the Density Near Earth's Center
  4. Thanks Prabhu, for boiling the milk, not watering it down. Here we find many disciples of gurus living together in unmarried relationships - question: isnt this the responsibilty of a guru to marry his disciples instead of allowing them to do what they like? Or is this old-fashioned thinking? Does a guru get karmic reactions when his disciples indulge in illicit sexual activity?
  5. So far, if the Earth produces more heat from within than the Earth receives heat from the Sun can't be said with 100% sureness. Just like the Sun is an interface between the Brahmajyoti ("Sun is reflection of brahmajyoti" ) and the material Universe the core of the Earth is as seen in pic below is even a place where Lord Vishnu resides. What exactly is happening at such hot spots where spiritual energy pours into the material energy seems to be acintya - never to be understood by our material science. Therefore science is so much troubled to explain what excatly happens on the Sun. Fact is however, from New Zealand till Island or take the deep-sea explosive activity on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge near 34°50'N, everywhere you find red hot liquide magma leaking out the Earth core see pic below Pahoeoe fountain at an temperature as hot as 1600°C. That such heat of melting rocks is produced simply by pressure is rather quite speculative since the Earth is rotating and thus there are also quite some centrifugal forces pulling in the opposite direction of the Earth's core.
  6. Instructive words how to advance our spiritual live, "But the interesting thing is that by the time I got to where I am today, I had lost all desire to control (I still like independence though!), and the management that I have to do for the society is now something that is foreign to my nature. I am voluntarily doing it though, but out of love and loyalty for Srila Prabhupada. Otherwise I would not relish it at all. I guess it could be compared to the story of Dhruva who wanted a kingdom greater than that of Lord Brahma but when he was offered everything by the Lord, he understood that he was simply looking for some broken pieces of glass rather than for the diamond that was Krishna." Sometimes Wanting More Is Not Always What You Want <TABLE class=contentpaneopen><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left width="70%" colSpan=2>http://pr-gb.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19236&Itemid=9 Written by EditorChoice </TD></TR><TR><TD class=createdate vAlign=top colSpan=2>Wednesday, 19 September 2007 </TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=2>I just arrived in Houston, Texas for our North American GBC and leadership meetings which will last 4 days. Management is not a sannyasi\'s traditional duty nor is it something that is high up in my list either. When I first joined the movement, I definitely had a desire to control and wanted to have a position within ISKCON. Part of the desire to control was also a desire for autonomy (to not be controlled by anyone). One devotee even commented that in the next life I was likely to become Lord Brahma and have a whole universe to control. So, in my tenure in the movement I have taken a variety of positions, beginning from treasurer, to temple commander, to temple president, to regional secretary, to GBC! Krishna certainly fulfilled my desires! But the interesting thing is that by the time I got to where I am today, I had lost all desire to control (I still like independence though!), and the management that I have to do for the society is now something that is foreign to my nature. I am voluntarily doing it though, but out of love and loyalty for Srila Prabhupada. Otherwise I would not relish it at all. I guess it could be compared to the story of Dhruva who wanted a kingdom greater than that of Lord Brahma but when he was offered everything by the Lord, he understood that he was simply looking for some broken pieces of glass rather than for the diamond that was Krishna. There is one aspect of the meetings that is very relishable though; the association of advanced devotees who have dedicated their lives to serving Srila Prabhupada. It is interesting though, that we each have different opinions about the subject matters we are dealing with, but we agree to work cooperatively, and respect each other for our opinions. This is what Srila Prabhupada meant by "unity in diversity." There is also great love between the different GBC persons. Because of my physical limitations (I get exhausted quite easily), I am only able to attend 4 hours of meetings a day and my morning program is a little abbreviated during meeting times. I do long for the day when I am free of management responsibilities and can dedicate my life to the activities which truly inspire me. What are those activities? Helping others, and bringing people to Radha and Krishna. Whenever I can get some time I engage in these activities, or am planning how to perform these activities more effectively. Basically my brain is absorbed in this. To this end I am studying many different books on spiritual organizations and sociological theories (to understand how ISKCON should be structured to fully empower its members), studying different bridge preaching concepts, praying to Krishna and Prabhupada for intelligence, experimenting with different preaching approaches, and interacting and getting feedback from members of ISKCON and others. Some of my studies or experiments are seen by others as controversial, but I feel impelled by a desire to alleviate the sufferings of others and to please Prabhupada to do what I am doing. In the future I would like to write about some of things I am examining to help our society. Of course I never forget or neglect the practice of Bhakti Yoga which entails the cultivation of the Bhakti Lata Bija. My desire to help others and serve Prabhupada gives a greater intensity to my spiritual practices and I become stricter in my observances understanding that the only way I can be successful is to be empowered by Krishna. Today I received a letter from a devotee who was asking me for advice on what do when criticized by other devotees for the service which she is doing because it is not their primary service. We often see that devotees become fixed on some particular service and think that their service is the best and that others should also do that service if they want to make spiritual advancement. 8. This could explain why quite some "evil" persons felt attracted to join Vaishnavism. Sep 17, 2007 2:34 | Updated Sep 17, 2007 4:16 Rabbis disgusted by Madonna's visit By MATTHEW WAGNER AND AP Israel.jpost.com: Orthodox teachers of Kabbala reacted with disdain Sunday to pop idol Madonna's Rosh Hashana visit in Israel, during which she took part in a study session of Judaism's most esoteric texts. <!-- Show photo -->Madonna's visit has caused a furor among Orthodox Kabbala teachers. Photo: AP [file] <!-- display the next paragraphs --> "It is a known fact in Kabbala that impurity and evil are inherently attracted to sanctity," said a director of one of the most respected Kabbala yeshivot in Jerusalem who preferred that he and his institution remain anonymous. "That's why people of Hollywood, a place of iniquity and lasciviousness, are naturally attracted to the holiness of Kabbala." The director of the yeshiva said he was explaining a basic Kabbalistic concept according to which "sparks" of holiness tightly connected to "shells" of impurity are waiting to be let free. These "shells" [klipot] are naturally attracted to their polar opposite - holiness. "Wherever there is holiness and sanctity there is also evil," added the director, who said that during her last visit to Israel three years ago, Madonna repeatedly tried to contact his institution, but her calls were not returned. "That's why someone like that lady - I don't even want to mention her name - is so attracted to the Kabbala." Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri, son of Jerusalem-based kabbalist David Batzri, head of the Shalom Yeshiva, said that it was forbidden to teach Kabbala to non-Jews such as Madonna. "Even Jews are not allowed to delve into the secrets of the Kabbala until they have thoroughly reviewed the entire Talmud and the legal commentaries, and also scrupulously adhere to all the commandments," added Batzri. "But we as Jews can learn something from the interest non-Jews have in Kabbala. Even the non-Jews understand the power of the Kabbala. They are willing to come from the ends of the earth to learn it." During her trip to Israel, Madonna toasted Rosh Hashana with President Shimon Peres and declared herself an "ambassador for Judaism." The singer, who is not Jewish, met Peres at his official Jerusalem residence on Saturday evening, and the two exchanged gifts, with Madonna receiving a lavishly-bound copy of the Old Testament. She presented Peres with a volume of the Zohar (The Book of Splendor), the guiding text of Jewish mysticism, or Kabbala, inscribed, "To Shimon Peres, the man I admire and love, Madonna," the Yediot Aharonot daily said. A Peres aide confirmed the meeting but had no details. Madonna arrived in Israel Wednesday night, the eve of the New Year, with her film director husband, Guy Ritchie, to attend a Kabbala conference. Other celebrities who flew in for the event included movie star Demi Moore and her husband, actor Ashton Kutcher, ex-talk show host Rosie O'Donnell and fashion designer Donna Karan. "You don't know how popular the Book of Splendor is among Hollywood actors," Yediot quoted Madonna as telling Peres. "Everyone I meet talks to me only about that." Kutcher was quoted by an Israeli daily as telling a group of Israeli businessmen and entertainers on Saturday that Kabbala had answered fundamental questions in his life and made him a better actor. Madonna, who was raised a Roman Catholic, has taken the Hebrew name Esther, and has been seen wearing a red thread on her wrist in a Jewish tradition to ward off the evil eye. Madonna paid her first visit to Israel three years ago, on another Kabbala-centered trip. "I can't believe that I'm celebrating the new year with you in Israel," Ma'ariv quoted her as telling Peres on Saturday. "It's a dream come true." <!-- BEGIN small JP Tools --> <table class="tbarbottom clearboth" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td style="padding-right: 15px;"><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td id="tbar1"> Print</td><td id="tbar1">Subscribe</td><td id="tbar1last"></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
  9. The other extreme to this questions somehow seems to have sprung up in the mind of senator Ernie Chambers who did not only ask "Why Does God Exist", but filed a case against God: US Senator sues God http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22438051-13762,00.html By Nate Jenkins September 18, 2007 10:01am <!-- END Story Toolbar --> <!-- Lead Content Panel --> US senator Ernie Chambers is suing God for causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more. He can be sued in Douglas County, Nebraska, the legislator claims, because He's everywhere. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he's trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody. Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants." The senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused "fearsome floods ... horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes." He's seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty. Chambers said the lawsuit was triggered by a federal suit filed against a judge who recently barred words such as "rape" and "victim" from a sexual assault trial. The accuser in the criminal case, Tory Bowen, sued Lancaster District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront, claiming that he violated her free speech rights. Chambers said Bowen's lawsuit is inappropriate because the Nebraska Supreme Court has already considered the case and federal courts follow the decisions of state supreme courts on state matters. "This lawsuit having been filed and being of such questionable merit creates a circumstance where my lawsuit is appropriately filed," Chambers said. "People might call it frivolous but if they read it they'll see there are very serious issues I have raised." US District Judge Richard Kopf, in an order last week, expressed doubts about whether Bowen's lawsuit "has any legal basis whatsoever" and said sanctions may be imposed against Bowen and her attorneys if they fail to show cause for the lawsuit. The Associated Press usually does not identify accusers in sex-assault cases, but Bowen has allowed her name to be used publicly because of the issue over the judge's language restrictions. Cheuvront declared a mistrial in the sexual assault trial in July, saying pretrial publicity made it impossible to gather enough impartial jurors.
  10. At least fall downs in ISKCON are reported and yes, it seems even advanced devotees can fall down: By the GBC Executive Committee, September 17, 2007 The GBC Executive Committee, after much deliberation and consultation, has no alternative but to sadly report the deviations of and the abuses to devotees carried out by Balabhadra dasa (ACBSP), previously known as Bhakti Balabh Puri Goswami. Notwithstanding his fall-downs the GBC offered Balabhadra Prabhu shelter and guidance provided he work under their guidance, absorbing himself in sadhana. Unfortunately he has recently defied this agreement, the guidance of his friends, the direction of GBC members and the authority of this Society, thus in effect leaving ISKCON and acting independently. Therefore, as he has plans to continue some independent form of “preaching” and collections, we have no option but to inform the devotees of his deviations. What follows is a brief history of Balabhadra dasa’s disturbing behaviour, behaviour which led to his stepping down from guruship, sannyasa and finally membership of ISKCON. ————- Report on Balabhadra dasa, formerly Bhakti Balabh Puri Goswami This report was compiled for the GBC by the committee dealing with this case, Sivarama Swami, BB Govinda Swami and Praghosa dasa and has been approved by the GBC Executive Committee. It has been reproduced here in full, and thus may contain more information than expected from a general article. Introduction Balabhadra dasa was always eccentric and even in the early 80’s showed a penchant for cars, cameras and handling money. However his wife, his godbrothers, and his own strong spiritual practices, namely sadhana and deity worship, generally kept his eccentricity and indulgences to a tolerable level. Otherwise he was known as a good preacher, inspirational sankirtana leader, and a caring devotee. The death of his wife seemed to be a visible turning point in his life. His sadhana deteriorated, his bodily weight increased and he became increasingly involved in the lives of his female disciples, despite his having entered the renounced order. There was a “special” relationship with one female disciple, who was the person with whom he later, repeatedly fell down. Balabhadra dasa’s distancing Sivarama Swami from Scotland and the latter’s eventual resignation as GBC for the UK left Balabhadra dasa more or less unsupervised and uncontrolled. Although the exact chronology of events is not perfectly represented above, it does give a cursory indication of Balabhadra dasa’s decline over time. Findings of the Working Committee Over three years ago Balabhadra dasa’s sexual abuse of his female disciple came to light and in investigating that abuse, a Pandora’s box of equally serious deviations gradually came to light, all of which were made known to the GBC Executive. The committee working with Balabhdara dasa first removed him from all positions of authority and suspended his guruship, later they restricted him to residence in Vrndavana and finally negotiated with him his retirement from active service. The conclusion of the three years discussions and consultation was a final meeting in Scotland, the results of which are recorded later in this report. Years of investigations and meetings with Balabhadra and his disciples revealed Balabhadra’s degradation into a disoriented person who could in no way be considered fit for a position of authority in this movement, what to speak of spiritual leadership. This assessment is shared by all the senior devotees in Scotland and substantiated by many practical examples, only some of which are cited below. (He was sent to a professional psychiatrist for six weeks, however he blocked us from obtaining the results of the analyst’s report.) To disciples and later to the committee dealing with him Balabhadra dasa has admitted that he thought of himself as a personal associate of Lord Caitanya and/or Krsna. In addition, his conception of guru was one in which he was the proprietor of his disciples, of ISKCON’s assets and especially of ISKCON Scotland’s monies. And because a guru, he thought, takes the karma of his disciples he deemed that he was above Srila Prabhupada’s order to co-operate with the GBC secretary and the GBC body. Balabhadra would become physically abusive to disciples, sometimes violently hitting and kicking them, even to the extent of drawing blood. In the name of ‘helping’ two female disciples he performed many explicit sexual and voyeuristic acts by exploiting the obedience of his female disciples. Considering himself proprietor of the Society’s funds Balabhadra wasted money by the frivolous purchase of, amongst other things, expensive cars, motor-homes, cameras and dozens of guitars. His dealings with disciples were contradictory, duplicitous, manipulative, intimidating and abusive. To his disciples he openly criticized senior devotees, sannyasis and friends, both in private and in public classes and lengthy istaghostis. Despite all these obvious deviations, to date, at the repeated request of those who have been trying to assist him he has not, and by his own admission cannot, document the reasons leading to his gross deviations. He is unable to understand the severity of his transgressions, or the reactions of those in knowledge of them. He still believes his good motivations overshadow any faulty methodology. Preliminary Recommendations While there are many other symptoms and examples of Balabhadra’s deviation, the words above do not do full justice in portraying the hurt devotees have suffered at his hands. Our society must be clear that such abuse will not be tolerated, especially from gurus, those who are meant to show the ideal example of the humble Vaisnava. Therefore the working committee considered it inappropriate that our Society allow him to continue as a spiritual master or sannyasi, invest in him any managerial or spiritual responsibility, or put him in a position of trust. Having seen how he has abused the trust placed in him by the Society, the devotees, and his disciples; having seen how grievous his conduct and deeds were, the committee was convinced that Balabhadra dasa could no longer be put forward as a representative of this society in any capacity. August Meeting in Scotland With these conclusions in mind the working committee along with six senior devotees of the Scottish yatra sat with Balabhadra dasa to work out an agreement. It was accepted that if Balabhadra dasa continues to work under ISKCON authority, then his basic needs would be looked after by the Scottish yatra. The desire to look after Balabhadra dasa was in recognition of the years of dedicated service he performed prior to his problems arising and the heartfelt appreciation of the Scottish devotees for the help he had given them. In every meeting with Balabhadra dasa over the years, including at this final meeting, his great services and good intentions were always acknowledged. Yet those could not negate his offenses. After two full days of discussion the following mutual agreement was reached with Balabhadra dasa: o The Scottish Yatra would support Balabhadra with a monthly allowance and give him the permanent use of an apartment in Sridhama Mayapura, where he was to move. In addition Scotland would cover budgeted travel, medical and miscellaneous expenses. o Balabhadra dasa agreed to step down both as a guru and as a sannyasi o Balabhadra dasa would serve under the guidance of Sivarama Swami, BB Govinda Swami and Praghosa dasa, until further notice, staying at Kusum Sarovara and as soon as the necessary arrangements are made, move to Mayapur where he will be under the supervision of a senior vaisnava o Balabhadra dasa would only travel by prior agreement o Balabhadra dasa agreed to undergo further counseling as soon as it could be arranged. Even during the meeting Balabhadra dasa gave up his sannyasa cloth and we continued amicably calling him Balabhadra Prabhu rather than Puri Maharaja. At the conclusion of the meeting Balabhadra dasa departed from Scotland and everyone appeared satisfied with the above agreement, especially since all the points were mutually agreed upon without much ado. The Scottish Devotees Until this year, the only devotee in Scotland aware of all the deviations and subsequent restrictions on Balabhadra dasa was the temple president, Prabhupada Vani dasa. Others thought he had semi-retired for health reasons. In the beginning of the year news gradually leaked to other senior devotees and since that time we have had many meetings to inform and then help those disciples. These disciples included all the senior and leading devotees of the yatra. With the exception of two (mentioned below) all devotees accept Balabhadra’s stepping down as both guru and sannyasi and have stopped all worship of and appellation in regards to him. Many have sought shelter from other senior Vaisnavas. The devotees are all united around and supportive of Prabhupada Vani dasa as temple president, who is doing an admirable job in that service, in an otherwise trying situation. Balabhadra’s son and daughter, also living near the temple, are fully aware of his transgressions and fully supportive of the working committee, its decisions, and the Scottish temple management. There appears to be two die-hard supporters of Balabhadra who show no apparent change in allegiance to their “guru”, even after being made aware of all the transgressions and abuses. These devotees are now being engaged by Balabhadra for his purposes. With those exceptions, who are now leaving the devotee community, the yatra, the temple and the congregation is stable, the devotees mature and the mood upbeat. There have been many visitors recently, such as Hari-sauri prabhu, Madhavananda prabhu, Dhananjaya prabhu and Indradyumna Swami and more are expected. In short the isolation is over. Subsequent Development Within one month of this agreement being reached, Balabhadra dasa reneged on it. Instead of fulfilling certain duties and communications assigned him, he turned up at the temple in Scotland, at midnight, on Janmastami, unannounced and without permission. Obviously the devotees there were both shocked and intimidated. He spoke to some proclaiming that he was now a free man and not working under any authority. He also stated that he had friends and collecting abilities, thus he would not be affected by losing the support of the Scottish Yatra, or of ISKCON. Unless and until Balabhadra submits himself to the working committee and the authority of ISKCON, he should be considered as his own agent, not a representative of ISKCON. Thus whatever project he promotes, or funds he collects for, are not with the approval of ISKCON. Thus temples and temples’ congregation should be appropriately informed. This report completes the work of the committee assigned to this case. The reason this issue is being announced on Dandavats is twofold; 1. It was made clear to Balabhadra dasa that if he broke the agreements regarding his rectification, restriction, and future service, and if he chose to do as he liked, his case would be made public in order to protect devotees of the Society from him. 2. Since Balabhadra dasa is now his own man, with no means of livelihood, he will seek to raise funds from the international society of devotees who should be informed that supporting him is not supporting any ISKCON approved project or person. <!-- end .post-middle --> <!-- the bottom of the post, the background graphic gets applied here --> <!-- Blink It • Del.icio.us • Furl • Spurl • Technorati • BoingBoing • Slashdot • Digg --> <!-- end .post-bottom --><!-- <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:trackback="http://madskills.com/public/xml/rss/module/trackback/"> <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.dandavats.com/?p=4316" dc:identifier="http://www.dandavats.com/?p=4316" dc:title="GBC-EC Statement and Report Regarding Balabhadra das (formerly Bhakti Balabha Puri Maharaja)" trackback:ping="http://www.dandavats.com/wp-trackback.php?p=4316" /> </rdf:RDF> -->
  11. You're welcome, I'll try to put it as simple as possible. A natural nuclear reactor in the center of the Earth burning Uranium and working since billion of years smoothly and thus keeping the Earth's iron core liquid so it creates the required magnetic field would strongly further prove intelligent design. Now, just look at present atomic plants like e.g. in Springfield where presently Homer J. Simpson works as the safety inspector - how much technology and control is required to keep an atomic plant working safely and not to have a scenario like the Chernobyl accident - a core melt high risk probability in which the whole planet could blow up. To find out that there's actually a huge smoothly functioning nuclear reactor below our feet in the center of the Earth could somehow change people's consciousness slightly into this direction how Krishna could create all this so nicely that besides some occasional volcano activities everything works perfectly. And may be - to treat Mother Earth more respectfully. Hawai‘i's Kilauea Volcano
  12. Thanks Murali Mohan prabhu for your short rating - sorry that it doesnt comfort your understanding of what is a spiritual topic - didnt pass your test. What many ex-members of audarya are telling me is that they are missing current issues put into vedic parameters - content to make us getting faith in the Vaishnava preaching - Krishna is the origin of everything. A half dozen senior forum members in exchange of blows what is actually said in sastra can't belie that this is enough to present Vaishnava siddhanta on the world wide web. I think a forum has the responsibility to give entrance for newcomers to find content of events of the day related to Vaishnavsim - content, content, content. And when someone makes a post which isnt already matured to comfort the personal likings of a senior member, we shouldnt immediately put it down but try to develop. After all writing good topics takes time. But if we develop topics together things become easier. And isnt a forum something like a co-production? Why turn it into a Guruvani's one-man-show forum - all his forums, bhaktiforums.com, saraswata.net ended up in an one man show graveyard and were closed? Btw, where're your contributions of "spiritual topics"?
  13. I think if all the Vaishnavas would use the internet in such a way as to cast a net of all the revelations of Krishna's wonderful intelligence how He set up this universe/nature so perfectly - the innocent non-believers could be waked-up in big style. It is not just that this material world functions perfectly, but actually for the searching souls to step by step finding out that everywhere is the signature of the Supreme Lord to be found - would gradually bring one to the state of love to Krishna, just by seeing these things, you start to see Krishna. Prabhupada gives the example of a mother who sees the little shoe of her child. She sees that shoe, but actually due her love for her child, she doesnt actually see the shoe but invisions her child.
  14. Sanskrit -Mother of all Languages "No history can give us an idea so exact of the vicissitudes of a people, of their social organization and their beliefs and feelings, as an analysis of their language."— MARTIN ALONSO THROUGHOUT history, languages and their Sanskrit/Devanagari origin have fascinated scholars. Indeed, their fascination has even been preserved—just as most historical records have been—thanks to language itself. Undoubtedly, in language humans have their ultimate means of communication. At the present time, some linguists estimate that about 6,000 or more languages are spoken in the world, not including local dialects. Of course this doesnt mean that Vedic literature has to be translated into all those languages, but ultimately this should be the goal. By far, the most widely spoken language is Mandarin Chinese, with more than 800 million speakers. The next four most spoken languages, not necessarily in this order, are English, Spanish, Hindi, and Bengali. What happens when different cultures and, of course, their languages suddenly come into contact with one another? On the other hand, how does isolation of groups affect their language? Let us see how bridges—but also walls—to communication are built. Pidgins, Creoles, and Lingua Francas Colonization, trade between countries, and even confinement in concentration camps have caused people to feel the need to bridge the communication gap because of having no language in common. So they began using a reduced, or simplified, form of language. They took away grammatical complications, used fewer words, and limited these to areas of common interest. In this way pidgins were created. Pidgin, as reduced as it may be, is a language with its own linguistic system. But if the need that generated it disappears, it may die. When pidgin becomes the main language of a population, new words are added and the grammar is reorganized. It thus becomes a creole. Creoles, as opposed to pidgins, express the culture of a people. Today dozens of pidgins and creoles—based on English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, and other languages—are spoken in the world. Some have even become prominent languages within a country, such as Tok Pisin in Papua New Guinea and Bislama in Vanuatu. Other bridges promoting communication are lingua francas. A lingua franca is a common language used by groups whose mother tongues are different. In the Central African Republic, for instance, speakers of various local languages can communicate by means of Sango. Among diplomats, English and French are languages used as lingua francas. Pidgins are lingua francas, and creoles can be also. In different regions inside a country, local varieties of the national language may be used, which are called dialects. The more isolated the region, the more marked the differences may be. In time, some dialects become so different from the original language of the area that they become another language. In some cases it is not easy for linguists to distinguish between a language and a dialect. Also, since languages change constantly, dialects sometimes die out from disuse, and with them dies a piece of history. The Origin of Languages The all-wise Creator, Lord Sri Krishna, has employed Sanskrit language in the heavenly realm. When He created humans, he implanted in them a vocabulary and the ability to expand it. There is no evidence of any primitive human language consisting of grunts and growls. On the contrary, consider what the Encyclopedia Britannica explains about Sumerian, the oldest known written Western language: "The Sumerian verb, with its various prefixes, infixes, and suffixes, presents a very complicated picture." At Babel, God confused the language of rebellious humans About the 20th century B.C.E. humans made an effort to control all society at the Plains of Shinar in Mesopotamia, and began building the Tower of Babel. Language diversity originated when God confused their common language, thwarting their dangerous and hurtful plans - therefore Vaishnavas are presently faced with a tremendous translation work. Efforts to trace a parent language from which all others developed have been not in vain but resulted in Sanskrit or Devanagari. Language is a divine gift of Krishna. The fascinating process of change in language shows how flexible this gift is. We may also learn from language that no one group of people is superior to another, for there is no such thing as an inferior language as soon it is used for Krishna. Just as with other divine gifts, language is equally available to all people, no matter what their culture or the place where they live. Since the very beginning, languages of all peoples have been complete enough to serve their purpose. Each one of them is worthy of respect, regardless of how many people use it. Historical and Social Factors The gregarious nature of mankind is reflected in language. Thus, when there is contact between cultures—a common occurrence—the languages of those cultures retain evidence of such contact for generations. For instance, through its many words of Arabic origin, Spanish, considered a modified version of Latin, retains a record of the eighth-century Muslim conquest of Spanish territory. The influence of Greek, French, English, and other languages on Spanish can also be traced. Moreover, in the Spanish spoken in America, traces remain of the ancient inhabitants of the continent. For example, Spanish there contains many words from the Nahuatl language of Aztec Central America. Just as a mother tongue identifies individuals with a certain nation and even with a region, language usage can identify people with a group, such as a profession, a trade, cultural and sports groups, or even criminal organizations. The list is practically endless. Linguists call these special variations jargon or slang or sometimes even a dialect. However, when there are animosities between nations and ethnic or cultural groups, language ceases to be a bridge. It can become a wall that adds to the divisions between people. The Future of Languages Communication is a complex matter. On one hand, the modern tendency is toward breaking down linguistic walls, primarily on account of mass media. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, English is now spoken as a primary or a secondary language by 1 person in 7. Thus, it is the most widely used lingua franca in the world. People's use of it has allowed for wider communication and the exchange of beneficial information. On the other hand, linguistic walls have contributed to division, hatred and war. The World Book Encyclopedia states: "If all peoples spoke the same tongue, goodwill would increase between countries." Of course, such goodwill would require a much more profound change than the mere use of a lingua franca. Only the Supreme Lord, Creator of language, could cause all people to speak one language. The Vedas, Krishna's main means of communication with humans, clearly show that Krishna's plan is one government which will unite all mankind in a peaceful, righteous system of things here on earth. Even now, a pure spiritual language like Sanskrit — is uniting millions of people from all languages, nationalities. Thus, it would seem logical that in a Varnashram society, Krishna would further unite mankind by providing all peoples with one common language, reversing what He did at Babel.
  15. These're excellent points by Japa Jim, Guruvani prabhu, Kshamabuddhi prabhu - President Bush a saint and good Samaritan who dreamed only of one thing - of bringing Ratha-yatra to Iraq and now it actually happens: Ratha-Yatra in Baghdad by Dvarakarani Devi dasi Posted September 15, 2007 http://www.chakra.org/announcements/Support_RequestSep15_07.html Posted September 15, 2007 These are U.S. troops. The soldier facing the camera, weapon in hand, is Partha-sarathi dasa. Besides engaging the enemy his mission is to hold a Ratha-yatra festival in Baghdad. His dilemma—what to do for prasadam? His solution—Ratnabhusana dasa and the New Dwaraka cookie baking crew. So far Ratna has sent three batches of 1,800 cookies each to Partha to distribute to the troops. Along with the cookies Partha has received Deities of Their Lordships Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra, and other devotional items. Jai Srila Prabhupada! The response from the troops has been so uplifting. The Mercy of the devotees is far reaching. Here are some excerpts from some letters that Ratna received from these troops in Iraq: “Thank you soooo much for all this.... that is so far out that you all took the time out to help me. Things have been very intense here, almost took a round the other day but Narasimha is here next to me, everywhere I go.” “Our center is growing at the moment, 10 bhaktas have been made. They are chanting rounds and following the 4 regs all by Krsna's and your mercy.” “I lost a soldier recently and the amazing thing was that he did so much service for Krsna without knowing. He bought dry fruit, incense etc. And the amazing thing was that he ate like 50 of the last batch of cookies. When we packed his stuff up I found a card I have given him in his helmet... it said Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare... and I was told before he died he yelled Krsna.” If you would like to join the troops—the Cookie Prasadam Troops that is—please write to Ratnabhusana dasa. All donations no matter how small are welcome. Ratna’s e-mail address is: isanahratna@ Ratha yatra ki jai! Srila Prabhupada ki jai!
  16. Scientists have identified distinct stages that your mind and body go through while you sleep - they speak of five stages of sleep. What stage of sleep do you ( Japa Jim ) refer to as dreaming stage?
  17. Thanks Guruvani prabhu ("Japa Jim") for presenting your oppinion, guess that everyone accepts that you feel you have to write down all this. Only question might be raised, why you are against it that others are presenting their oppinions?
  18. According to comic-book folklore going back quite some years, Superman escaped as a child from a planet with an unstable uranium core that exploded in a super-atomic blast. Now science is imitating cartoon art: Researchers are preparing to test the theory of a San Diego scientist, J. Marvin Herndon, who thinks a huge, natural nuclear reactor or "georeactor" -- a vast deposit of uranium several miles wide -- exists at Earth's core, thousands of miles beneath our feet and thus turning about 75% of the inside earth into realy hot magma what we can observe at so called hot spots where lava is leaking out. Are we flying on a huge natural nuclear reactor around the Sun? At least science has to admit: Only God could create and maintain such an Earth which requires so many control mechanisms. Scientists like Herndon believe it might help to explain otherwise puzzling phenomena of planetary science, such as fluctuations in the intensity of Earth's magnetic field. Without the Earth's magnetic field the cosmic rays coming from the Sun would turn the Earth into a desert. "Herndon's idea about (a reactor) located at the center of the Earth, if validated, will open a new era in planetary physics," said four Russian scientists at Moscow's Institute for Nuclear Research and Kurchatov Institute in a paper published online. It might sound bizarre, the very idea of a "natural" nuclear reactor -- a geological version of commercial nuclear power plants such as Pacific Gas and Electric Co.'s Diablo Canyon plant near San Luis Obispo. But if Herndon is right, then the reactor at Earth's core is just a much bigger and deeper version of an extinct natural nuclear reactor that scientists discovered in a uranium mine in Gabon, Africa, in 1972. The Gabon reactor consists of geological deposits of uranium that, being radioactive, naturally emit subatomic particles called neutrons. These neutrons split the nuclei in adjacent uranium atoms, causing them to emit more neutrons and, thus, to split even more uranium atoms -- in effect, it's a slow-speed chain reaction. Research in the 1970s revealed that the Gabon reactor operated intermittently for a few million years about 2 billion years ago. Scientists have long believed the planet's core is divided into a solid and liquid part composed largely of iron, the liquid circulation of which powers Earth's magnetic field. They have not thought of the core as a repository for uranium, although the possibility of uranium in the core was suggested in passing in 1939 by the scientist Walter Elsasser. Herndon and his backers believe his theory of a uranium georeactor in Earth's core has certain advantages over existing scientific ideas, by providing more convincing ways to: -- Explain the ratios of helium isotopes emitted from volcanoes in Iceland and Hawaii. Those ratios are consistent with the ratios of helium isotopes emitted by a nuclear reactor. -- Explain why planets such as Jupiter emit far more heat than they absorb from the sun. Herndon thinks they, too, have natural nuclear reactors at their cores. (Because heat is continually generated by the decay of radioactive elements in Earth's crust and mantle -- the regions above the core -- scientists are uncertain whether Earth emits more heat than it receives from the sun.) -- Explain variations in the intensity of Earth's magnetic field, which fluctuates over time. Herndon believes that in the core, the georeactor drives the motions of the liquid iron that creates the magnetic field. But the georeactor varies in activity levels over time. Those activity variations, he believes, might explain intensity variations in Earth's magnetic field. Now, Rob de Meijer and associates at the Nuclear Physics Institute in Groningen, the Netherlands, are planning to test Herndon's theory. They're drawing blueprints for a large device that could detect ghostly particles called antineutrinos that have escaped from Earth's core. If Herndon's theoretical nuclear reactor really exists, then it should be gushing out antineutrinos that would fly through the roughly 4,000 miles of solid rock and emerge at the Earth's surface. The European scientists have proposed drilling a shaft more than 1,000 feet deep into the island of Curacao in the Caribbean. They hope to lower into the shaft devices called photomultipliers, which could detect particles from the hypothetical deep-Earth georeactor. The estimated cost: $80 million. In an e-mail to The Chronicle, de Meijer said he is seeking funding from the Dutch government and industrial consortiums. He and his team plan to visit Curacao in January to take the geological samples needed to design the subterranean antineutrino "antenna," as they call it. Curacao is a good location for the antineutrino detector because "the island's rocks have relatively few natural radionuclides that could mask the (antineutrino) signal from the Earth's core," the journal Physics World noted in September. The detector could be confused by antineutrinos emitted by commercial nuclear reactors, but Curacao is far enough from the southeastern United States that reactors in Florida won't affect it. Scientific reactions to Herndon's theory are all over the map. On the one hand, "virtually every scientist thinks (Herndon's) theory is nonsense," says geophysicist Gillian Foulger of the Earth sciences department at the University of Durham in England. On the other hand, "Dr. Herndon is a brilliant and original thinker. I agree with his claim that his theory has been unjustly ignored," said geoscientist David Deming of the University of Oklahoma. "The problem with most scientists working today is that they have no knowledge of the history of science," Deming adds. "As late as 1955, continental drift was regarded as the equivalent of alien abductions, Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. By 1970, continental drift was an accepted part of the new theory of plate tectonics." One of Herndon's leading critics is planetary scientist David Stevenson of the California Institute of Technology. He says in an e-mail: "Herndon is a solid and knowledgeable person when it comes to (nuclear) reactors. But the amount of attention this (georeactor) idea has received is out of proportion with its plausibility. ... It's not complete nonsense, but it's highly unlikely. There are many instances in science where this happens. This one has merely received more attention than most. "The idea is based on two very dubious propositions: (a) That uranium (or any heavy element) would naturally go to the center of the Earth. This is almost certainly untrue. It is a misunderstanding of chemistry and statistical physics at a very fundamental level. (b) That there is something about Earth's heat flow or helium that is so wildly discordant with our usual ideas that it requires an outrageous hypothesis to explain it. This is incorrect." But Herndon is taken seriously by Richard Muller, a noted physicist and author at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley. Since the 1970s, Muller has done pioneering research in diverse fields, including cosmology and planetary sciences. "Herndon's hypothesis is a very positive contribution to deep Earth science. He raises issues that are worth considering, and he may even be right, " Muller adds. "I consider his work to be 'out of the box' thinking, and as such, it is valuable even if it turns out to be wrong." On a side note, in case you're wondering: Unlike the planet-busting reactor of Superman lore, neither the Gabon reactor nor Herndon's hypothetical deep-Earth reactors could explode like atomic bombs. A-bombs require highly concentrated amounts of fissionable materials that are explosively compressed together in a fraction of a second -- far faster than the snail's-pace processes that would be characteristic of the natural reactors. Herndon received his bachelor's degree in physics at UC San Diego in 1970. He studied nuclear chemistry and meteorites in graduate school at Texas A&M, where he received his doctoral degree for a thesis on meteorites. Iconoclastic scientists often have trouble getting their papers published in scientific literature. Herndon "is no exception," he acknowledges. "I live in a strange world where I go against a strong establishment that pretends I don't exist." NASA has turned down Herndon's applications for research funding, he says. No longer able to attract research funds, he quit academic science in 1980. He has supported himself ever since in a variety of ways, ranging from doing scientific consulting work for mining firms to dealing in antiques and investing in real estate. "I can't make a living and do the science that I think is important to do, " Herndon acknowledges. As a result, "I have had less than a satisfactory career in science. But I have made fundamentally important discoveries that will reshape geophysics." Even so, operating as an independent scientist, over the years, he has managed to publish papers in prestigious journals, including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. His main allies and sympathizers are non-Americans, like the de Meijer team. On Dec. 16, Herndon is scheduled to deliver the prestigious annual "Christmas Lecture" at the European Commission's Institute for Transuranium Elements in Karlsruhe, Germany. He draws unhappy conclusions from his bumpy scientific career. Had his two sons -- now physicians -- planned to become scientists, he says, "I would have steered them away from it because you can't make a living and do legitimate science; you have to 'howl with the wolves' or you don't survive. This is a sad testament to our times. There's something very wrong in American science." <hr> Herndon’s theory According to traditional theory, the core of Earth consists largely of iron. The SanDiego scientist J. Marvin Herndon has added a new wrinkle by arguing that a large deposit of uranium also exists in the core, where it powers a natural nuclear reactor or “georeactor.” Herndon believes the nuclear process is somehow responsible for variations in the intensity of Earth’s magnetic field. During the radioactive decays, the georeactor releases ghostly particles called antineutrinos, which fly through thousands of miles of solid rock to Earth’s surface. Scientists hope to test Herndon’s georeactor hypothesis by using special instruments to detect the hypothetical antineutrinos as they pass through the outer crust. 19. This was surely also an important point for Srila Prabhupada, how to make people remember what's being said in class - even the very next day, things were sometimes already forgotten. HG Sriman Janaka Rishi prabhu ( http://jeevjago.blogspot.com/ ) took up the task to present essential philosophy in such a way to make us remember for a longer period of time. These are the slokas of Bhagavad-gita As It Is being explained: BG 2.62: While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises. BG 2.63: From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc5EeNn4T6U&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fjeevjago%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F CREDITS: Cast (in order of appearance) Janaka Rishi Maxwell Krishna and Balarama Rodriguez Krishna Dhama Rico Jishnu and Krishangi Allin Poppy Radha Kunda Allard Cinematography and Assistant Director Manu Kaseder Original Score Kevin MacLeod Dog Wrangler Devaki Solomon Maritime Services Dude Overboard! 21. This is not a question to be answered by astrology but by common sense. Why men commit suicide, these are mainly farmers who take a credit for their agricultural business. Somehow when things go bad these farmers find themselves caught up in the position that they consider that they will never be able to pay back their credit and because of the interest their debt even increases. At this point these farmers feel so broken-hearted that they commit suicide. Since these are mainly male farmers who sign such contracts with the World Bank, you'll never find that the number of women who commit suicide will be the same as men.
  22. A blind man wanders into an all girls biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders some orange juice. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the waiter, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?" The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind -- that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I'm a 6 foot tall, 175 lb. blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight-lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke ?" The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters, "No, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."
  23. This can only be explained without even refering to sastra by someone who is fully liberated from the material energy and is fully realized soul, jai Guruvani prabhu! Although Srila Prabhupada was surely also a fully liberated Vaishnava, still in order to teach us he would always back up his explanations of the constitutional position of the living entity. Prabhupada: Now the soul is in this body. Next time the soul is in another body. So according to the body we are having designations. As soon as we get American body, I think myself American. Next life, if I get a body of a dog, then I think myself dog, designate. According to the body I create my designations. But one has to become free from all designations. That is called liberated stage. This is own constitutional position. That position is eternal servant of God. That is the real position of every living entity. But because at the present moment the living entity is in contact with matter, so according to the material modes of the body, he's identifying himself with this body. That is called material designation. "I am American.I am Englishman.I am Hindu.I am Muslim.I am this.I am that." These are all designations. So real perfection of life is without designations. And that is the real constitutional position. Jivera svarupa haya nitya-krsna-dasa. Actually, position of the living entity (indistinct) So that is the perfection of life. And human life is especially meant for, to come to that transcendental position, without any designations. Our Krsna consciousness movement is for that purpose. One should be always thinking of Krsna or God. That position is perfect (indistinct). And if one keeps himself in that designation-less position, always thinking of (indistinct) spiritual, as part and parcel of God, then next life he goes back home, back to Godhead. Tyaktva deham punar janma naiti. After quitting this body he does not come back again to take another material body. He takes spiritual body, or develops a spiritual body and goes back to home, back to Godhead, which means eternal, blissful life of knowledge. This Krsna consciousness movement is for that purpose. We are trying to bring all men..., beforehand I mentioned different divisions, to come to this position, always thinking that I am part and parcel of God. My real position is to serve God. Just like this finger is part and parcel of my body. The business of the finger is to serve the body. So long it is in normal condition, the finger is meant for serving the body. When the finger is painful or in abnormal condition it cannot serve the body. Similarly, the living entity, being part and parcel of God, when we cannot serve God that is his abnormal condition. And when he serves God that is his normal condition. That is designation-less position. That is our (indistinct). Mensa member : That's very interesting. To my mind the nearest approach in the Christian religion is the Unitarian position, which I don't know if you (indistinct). Prabhupada: Christian religion is practically, from the name it appears--Christian and "Krsnian". Original word of this "Christ" comes from the Greek word "Christo". Mensa member: Anointed. Prabhupada: Yes. This "Christa" is Krsna. Mensa member: From the Sanskrit? Prabhupada: Yes. Krsta is the popular word for Krsna. And Krsna is always anointed with tilaka. We follow this tilaka, Krsna has anointed, with this sandal pulp. So, so far I see, there is some very nearest relationship with this Christian and "Krsnia". Krsta means love, love of Godhead or love. We are teaching also the same philosophy. Try to... Not try. The love of Krsna is there in everyone's heart, but it is covered. And being covered, it is misplaced. We are loving our society, loving this body, loving our family, loving our kinsmen, or loving internationally human society. But this love is actually perverted reflection of real love of God. Because the love is not placed in the real place. Therefore we are being frustrated in love. Just like in our country Mahatma Gandhi, he loved his country very much. But at the last moment the countrymen shot him down. He was shot down by his own countrymen. The love was paid by shotting him and he lost his life. There are many instances. Mensa member: Socrates, Christ, plenty. Prabhupada: Yes. So here the love propensity is being misplaced in this material world. That should be placed in God. Then the love will be perfection. Just like if you pour water on the leaves of the tree or branches of the tree it is simply waste of time. If you pour water on the root then the effect of pouring water is distributed. Similarly, foodstuff, if you place the foodstuff on your nose, on your eyes or your ears, it is simply wasted. But if you put foodstuff to the mouth in the stomach immediately the energy derived from the foodstuff is distributed throughout the whole body. Similarly, if you love God then your, automatically your love is distributed to everyone. But if you don't love, if you simply love your country... Just like an Englishman, you love your country; German, he loves his country, but there is fight between the English and the Germans because the love is misplaced. But if the Germans or the Englishmen or the Indians they put their love in God there will be no more fighting. Therefore our philosophy is to educate people how to love God. That is real religion. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje. That is first-class religion which teaches the follower how to love God. And as soon he becomes a lover of God... Just like I am Indian, but I have come to western countries to teach love of God. It is not that I am satisfied only in myself that I love God, that's all right. But due to my love to God I love others also, because I am trying to teach them to love God, the same philosophy. So if people take seriously this movement, how to love God, then human society will be first-class. Mensa member: May I suggest you've already made one contribution from India which is almost the antithesis, and corroborate your suggestion about pouring water on the root. We do get leaves from India, we pour water on them and we make that delicious drink, tea, which is one of those drinks which are used for inculcating the brotherhood of man. Prabhupada: That's all right but do you think it is natural to pour water on the leaves? Mensa member: Well, why not then, that for leaves, water's natural. Prabhupada: No. If you pour water on the leaves, but you don't water on the root, it will dry up. If you put food on your nose, on your eyes, the eyes will be blind and the nostril will be suffocated, but if you put in the proper place, in the stomach, the energy will be distributed. Mensa member: You know that's just an analogy. Prabhupada: Yes. This is natural. Similarly, if God is the root of everything, as we understand from Vedanta-sutra. God means the original root of everything. Janmady asya yatah. The description of Absolute Truth, of God is there in the Vedanta-sutra. The first aphorism is, "What is God?" Athato brahma-jijnasa, inquiry about God. The next aphorism is "God is that which is the root of everything, from which everything emanates." That is the perfect definition of God, the origin of everything. So the same example as God, that the root is the origin of the whole tree. Mensa member: The seed is the origin of the whole tree, if I may say. Prabhupada: How you can be origin because you are the effect? Devotee: The seed. Prabhupada: Huh? Syamasundara: The seed. Prabhupada: The seed. Yes. The seed is described in the Bhagavad-gita: bijo 'ham sarva-bhutanam. Everything that is living, the root or the seed is nonsense. The seed is God. Bijo 'ham sarva-bhutanam. Just like the rose tree, it has got the seed, but wherefrom this seed comes? (guests entering room) Come on. Hare Krsna. Give him another... Seed, original seed is God. Your theory of seed is very nice but the original seed of everything is God, the cause of all causes. In the Brahma-samhita it is said, isvarah paramah krsnah sac-cid-ananda vigrahah anadir adir govindah sarva-karana-karanam Karanam. Karana means cause, cause of all causes, seed of all seeds. There are different seeds. Mensa member: Causa causam. (Latin) Prabhupada: Ah, cause of all causes. Devotee: Is that Latin? Mensa member: Yes. Devotee: It's similar. Prabhupada: What is that? Mensa member: A Latin legal phrase: causa causam, the cause of the cause. Prabhupada: So God is cause of all causes. And in the Bhagavad-gita it is explicitly said, aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate iti matva bhajante mam budha bhava-samanvitah "I am the original source of everything. Everything is emanating from Me." Iti matva, understanding like this, budha. Budha means those who are conversant, thoroughly in knowledge. Iti matva bhajante mam budha bhava samanvitah, in ecstasy, "Oh, here is the original cause of all causes." So in this way those who are advanced in knowledge, budha, they engage themselves in the service of the original cause of all causes. He's the cause of all causes, but He has no cause. That is God. Anadir adir govindam. He has no cause, but He's the cause of all life. That is God. Just like I am the effect, my father is the cause. Similarly, my grandfather is the cause of my father. My grandfather is the effect of the cause of great-grandfather. You go on searching out, searching out. So when you find out the original cause, that is God. That is the definition of God. Guest: (indistinct) ...prime mover (indistinct). What is the necessity for a first cause? Would you agree with that? Mensa member: Well, I think it's inherent in your definition of something that's omnipotent, that it's very like saying it's necessary to have no beginning in order to have no end. It's really a concept. Whether it exists or not it doesn't matter. Guest: Yes. Then even negatives imply imitation. If something has only positive attributes, it's limited in, to exclude negative attributes. Or is that just a... Mensa member: Well no, if something has all attributes, the only cause or call them to be caused, positive or negative because we have a tendency to want to think in terms of dichotomies, good and bad, whereas, really if you're a scientist you say this exists. It's only when morals come in, you say some things are good and some things are bad, and you start making antinomies. Really your Godhead would contain all those things, and to Him there's no such thing as good or evil, but to Him they are all of value. It's man who saw the good and evil. Guest: I wasn't particularly thinking of the good and evil. I was simply thinking of negative attributes. Mensa member: Well, I'm sorry, I don't know quite what you mean, unless you define the negative attribute, I'm not quite sure what it is. Guest: Not beginning. Mensa member: Well that, with good respect, I think, doesn't really follow because there're some things that don't have opposites or negatives although (in) nature. This is what I say that there are certain categories of things to which if somebody said, "Now what's the opposite of that?" You'd have to say, "There isn't an opposite," because it isn't the sort of thing to have an opposite. Guest: So you would accept the problem is variety? Mensa member: Well, it's not an argument, it's a postulate. I don't accept it. I mean, you have to accept it if you're going to... You know the (indistinct), so to speak. You can't have it half way. Prabhupada: This word positive and negative. Just like the sun-the backside is the negative and the front side is the positive, light and darkness. Mensa member: Well the sun doesn't have a backside of darkness. It's light all round. Prabhupada: I mean to say, in relationship with the sun, the planet, the planet, in the front side there is light. In the backside there is darkness. The darkness is the effect of the light. Where the light is absent there is darkness. Mensa member: Only to an observer. If there's no observer there, there's no difference between light and dark. Prabhupada: No, this is the actual position. Just like this is sun, but this side is light, this side is darkness. So light and darkness, two opposite elements. But it is due to the same cause. Absence of light is darkness. And presence of light is light. Mensa member: Or I say there are some things that have those dichotomies and others don't. Prabhupada: So actually the cause is one. But in different position, one side is light, one side is darkness. Therefore the cause cannot be different. The cause is one. But under different position it appears, "This is light. This is darkness." So bad, which you consider bad, that is also caused by the Supreme Cause. In the Supreme there is no good or bad. Everything is absolute. Just like the sun is always light, but, in relationship with sun, the planet, one side is dark, one side is light. So black means that is also caused by the light, absence of light, that is black, dark. Mensa member: With respect, it's not caused by the light. It's the absence of light. Prabhupada: Absence, that I'm saying. It is also indirectly, the cause is the light. Mensa member: No, because your illustration you gave of the light of the sun falling on one side and making that light, on the other side dark. But you can also have a body which is in the complete absence of any light anyway so there won't be any differentiation. Prabhupada: No. There is light. The light is now visible. Light is there. Just like we say that our relationship with God is there. One is conscious. Another is unconscious. Otherwise God consciousness is there. Therefore any process that awakens that consciousness, that is perfect process. The consciousness is there. That is stated in Caitanya-caritamrta, an authorized book. Nitya siddha krsna bhakti.... This God consciousness is not something artificial. The God consciousness is there. Just like these European boys and girls, they're now devotees of Krsna. Not that artificially we have imposed this Krsna consciousness. The Krsna consciousness was there, but under certain process of treatment that has been awakened. Mensa member: That's why I think it's better to accept that as it is rather than make analogies which are dangerous. Prabhupada: I may make analogy or not analogy but the thing is that Krsna consciousness is there but it is covered. As soon as its covering is taken away, it is uncovered, the original position comes out. full conversation

I had a telephonic talk with the Professor and seeking answers to his burning questions. Meanwhile, I got an opportunity to meet the Marxist Minister and Poet Anil Sarkar, one of the architect of CPIM`s Dalit agenda passed in Hyderabad congress years passed. Anil sarkar was also present on the dias of National Dalit Bengali Refugee convention held in Abedkar Bhavan, New delhi on 21st August last. Anil Sarkar is one of the most powerful and respected political leader in North East. He advocates for developemental Corridors in NorthEast while he continues his war for Social Justice for dalits, tribals and minorities. He prefers literature and culture as tools of changes to mere politicalistion and vote Bank mobilisation. He philosophises: Since all the lyrics and literature have roots in the folk, cultural revolution must begin only from there! He considers Chaitanya Mahaprabhu the greatest rebel who provided the common masses the right to love and ensured the freedom of faith and religion.Vaishnav Andolan was the most powerful brekthrough to break the Brahminical Hegemony challanging State Power. In addition to his deep influences on Hinduism (some contend that Hinduism in Bengal might have been eradicated but for him), Chaitanya's cultural legacy in Bengal remains deep, with many residents performing daily worship to him as an avatar of Krishna. Some attribute to him a Renaissance in Benga, different from the more well known 19th century Bengal Renaissance. Salimullah Khan, a noted linguist, maintains, "Sixteenth century is the time of Chaitanya Dev, and it is the beginning of Modernism in Bengal. The concept of 'humanity' that came into fruition is contemporaneous with that of Europe". Chaitanya also influenced the Baul movement of Bengal, which some say was established by the son of his close friend Nityananda and is credited with locating a fragment of the lost scripture, Brahma Samhita. Although He is the Supreme Lord, Krishna, He posed as a devotee, and revealed the most sublime sentiments and the natural disposition of a devotee. He taught us by His own example how to establish a connection with the Lord through the practice of pure devotion. When Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in this world, He brought His dearest servitors with Him, personalities such as Lord Nityananda Prabhu, Sri Advaita Acharya, Sri Gadadhar Pandit, Srivas Thakur, and other exalted associates, and along with these devotees He spread the Yuga-dharma, or the practice most recommended for the attainment of pure love for Sri Sri Radha-Krishna. That process is Harinam Sankirtan, or the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare The marxist minister, an eminent dalit poet Anil Sarkar is the Patron for The boul convention to be organised on 19th and 20th september ahead by Tripura tribal Autonomous council in its headquarter Khumlung. Chief erxecutive member Aghor Deb Burman and another memebr Radhacharan Deb Burman are mobilising thousnads of bouls in North east to launch the Philosophy of Love to resist Terrorism! He is also the patron of more tahn fifty ambedkar mission units all over Tripura. ambedkar Mission has its units in bengal also. Anil Sarkar reinvents the dalit and subaltern ideology around Ambedkar, Karl Marx and Rabindra Nath Tagore. He sees through history rather as an Ambedkaraite and rejects all the myths as false! He visualise social justice in a cultural revolution with campaigning for folk culture. Folk festivals are the dearest medium for mass mobilisation for him. His dalit movement begins with folk essentially. He also projects casteology and the concept of Caste Struggle and believes in liberation via Class Struggle.Anil sarkar reads rabindra literature identifying its dalit content and negating brahminical bangla nationality. His nationality is essentially a dalit nationality which is identical with gautam Buddha, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Ambedkar and nowhere it contradicts materialist interpratation of history or the ideology Marxism! Anil sarkar earlier had demanded to identify Creamy Layer in Caste Hindu Society while the Creamy Layer was identified to deny reservation. He demanded Constition amendment to accomodate deprived communities including OBCs and religious minorities in reservation and quota! Anil sarkar is prompt to support karunanidhi for his decision for reservation to religious minorities. He claims that governemnet of Tripura has implemented reservation and quota cent percent. He regrets that Tripura has not got a private sector as it is untouchable literally due to lack of connectivity. He is sure that in that case Tripura would have implemented the quota. In Tripura the population ratiohappens to be as follows: Tribals 31 percent, SC 17 percent, minorities 8 percent and OBC 24 percent. Despite insurgency problems, Anil babu claims that Tripura is the rare example of coexistence of Tribal Population with the mainstream nontribals! Anil Sarkar demands that Judicial barriers should not be hinderance in the way of Social justice! He wrote poems on Mayawati but criticises her for withdrawing reservation recommendations for dalit Bengali refugees in UP. He demands that Ms Maywati shoud give SC status to namoshudras and Pods, the dalit Bengali refugees in UP. The Marxist minister asys that the partition victim bengali dalit refugees who are rehabiliated or resettled themselves in different parts of the country are the most deprived lot in post independence India. they have to pay for freedom! He also recognises these communities as the main forces of National dalit Movement in Pre Independence India! He alleged that barring Assam,Orrissa and West Bengal , nowhere the dalit Bengali Refugees were granted resevation even after full sixty years of independence as these people were ejected out of their homeland , the base of National dalit Movement. Only these people electd and ensured the entry of Dr Ambedkar to the constitution Assembly and in return Ambedkar made reservation a mandatory provision in the constitution of Independent India. Ironically for whom the Dalits SC, ST and OBC enjoy reservation and quota , they themeselves remain deprived of. He said,` At last we organised the National dalit Bengali Refugee Convention in Ambedkar Bhavan, New delhi on August 21st last. Vrinda karat and varadarajan led the event. It is tragic that the most militant community in India, The Namoshudras have been dehumanised and they live a subhuman life. They have no opportunity in Independent India. With this convention I am sure that they would mobilise themselves and return to Delhi in lacs to get their rightful right of reservation, education and mother tongue!’ He said,` There is no historical reality of the Myth of Rama. In North Rama is worshipped whereas in South Ravana is worshipped.Michael Madhusudan Dutta, the 19th century Bengali poet painted Rama as a villain in his classic Meghnad badh Kavay whereas Ravan`s Son Meghnad happens to be the hero and his wife Pramila , the heroine. So the matter is controversial and debated all along the history of Indian Intelligentsia! It is debated till this date. But roughly, it iis quite unfortunate that Indian opportunist Politics cunningly depends on this false Myth of Rama! Just to mobilise favourable Vote Bank!’ According to the Poet, who was awarded by Poetry Foundation only last evening in Kolkata for his contribution to the genre and whose poems on dalit Kanya Mayawati have been flashed worldwide as his idetity basically is based on his Marxist ideoplogy, war against Terrorism is not the answer to Terrorism. It rather provokes the chain reactions, he says. He may not accept, but as I know and believe he is not asupporter of military solution of nationality problems in North East and in the Rest of India or anywhere inthis Galaxy. Anil sarkar says that the philosophy of Love is the best answer to terrorism! He mobilises the folk artists, the Bouls, singers and folk artists of different genre to resist subvertive activities. Should President Bush learn a lesson? I have detaild discussions with him ranging to Ram, Ram Mandir and Ramsetu to SC ST and OBC Minority staus in general all over the country. Understandablly he avoids particular questions involving West Bengal and Keral as a responsible seniormost minister of tripura, an Untouchable state itself. But he rather focuses on his own state while dealing with SC ST OBC Minority issues. I have to answer some of the questions of Prof Vijay Kumar anothjer day. But I am forwarding his correspondence with this piece as those questions are very relevant as relevant is the stance of the dalit Poet and Marxist minister anil sarkar! Well, as this is quite our focul point that the Black Dalit joint forum is mandatory to resist post modern Galaxy Manusmriti Order ruled by zionist Brahminical Imperialists and at the same time , we consider Apartheid and Untouchability are two sides of the same coin as aborigin Indian have always been Black Untouchability who were defeated, killed, enslaved and displaced time to time. The process is so refined nowadays in the global Village! We have not to go tracing the line of history as the stream of history is so alive, haunting! Infinite persecution and demographic rearrangement is the key of White as well as zionist Brahminical Hegemony worldwide. Islamophobia and dalit hatred based anti terror mechaninsm is nothing but the best expression of the Nazi legacy of liquidation and dehumanisatio right through the history. Thus, while Anil sarkar emphasises that the Myth Of ramchandra is not a reality at all and toes the line of Chaitany MahaPrabhu taming Jagai madhai to deal with Terrorism and cultural aliegnation and separatism, he stands quite outstanding as a dalit Poet and a marxist Leader should stand! Aniil Sarkar said,` Chaitanya mahaprabhu was the first individual in History of Hindu rule in Indian Subcontinent who dared to break Brahminical Hegemony. he ensured the freedom of Religion for the marginalised Dalit masses! He unified the Untouchable Blacks to break white supremacy and his movement, hence, is still quite relevent. Not only religion, with highclass classic spiritual philosophy his clan produced supreme quality literature , art and music all rooted in folk culture!Sanskrit Poet jaideV was the origianl Boul but Chaitnya mahaprabhu`s impute in deh Tatva and Bouldhara was quite an aborigins! Jaidev`s native palce Kenduli happnes to be the most sacred place for Bauls accross the border. Joydev Kenduli is famous for Fair in MakarSankranti. This place is visited by millions of people during this period of year to take a holy dip in the River Ajay. The fair in question is the three-day-long annual festival that is held in the middle of January at Kenduli village in Birbhum . Kenduli is the birth-placeof the great Sanskrit poet Joydeb . Joydeb's 'Gitagovindam' is a collectionof poems on the divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha . So, the Vaishnavites consider Kenduli as a place of pilgrimage and visit this place atthis time of the year . Moreover, Joydeb, being the propounder of attaining salvation through love, is revered by the bauls of Bangla .
  25. There were recently 30 whooper swans observed which flew at a height of 30,000 feet on their way to Ireland. Why did they fly so high at a temperature of -40°C ? They could fly above snowstorms and used the strong jetstreams to travel with a speed of 130 miles per hour. In this way they covered the distance from Island to Ireland of 900 miles within 7 hours. The record holder of migratory birds, the artic tern overwinters at the Southpole but breeds at the Northpole. Each year this bird covers a distance of 30,000 – 40,000 miles. The stork travels by air every year 20,000 miles, overwintering in South Africa. How these birds always find back exactly at that place they were born? "Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are?" (Matthew 6:26) There is much more that we can learn by carefully observing bird life. Krishna has created birds with marvelous instincts to land at the exact pin point where they were born after a flight from the South pole to the North pole and make perfect nests in which they can raise their offspring. Pictured above is the nest of an African rock martin. It is built on the face of a rock or on the wall of a house. The roof of such nests is an overhanging rock or, as shown in this picture, the eaves of a building. The floor of the nest is made of tiny mud pellets stuck together in the shape of a cup. Both male and female work hard to collect mud pellets and may take over a month to complete their nest. Then they line it with grass and feathers. Both share in feeding their young. What appears below is the nest of a male masked weaver. This industrious African bird builds its nest using blades of grass or strips of other vegetation. It can complete a nest in one day and may weave more than 30 in one season! If Lord Paramatma is directing and providing intelligence to all the animals, why are the human beings so much bewildered about the goal of life? "Regarding your question of Paramatma: you are fortunate enough for your sincere service, Krishna as Paramatma Who is sitting within your heart is now dictating. Krishna is so kind that He wants to help us as Spiritual Master in two ways. He helps us from within as Caitya Guru and He expands Himself externally as Siksa Guru (as instructor) and diksa Guru (initiator). So the principle is that whatever you are instructed by the Caitya Guru internally may be confirmed by the instructor or initiator externally. Then your progress will be complete." Srila Prabhupada Letter to Sivananda, 05-21-69 "Prabhupada: "Then so siksa and diksa-guru... A siksa-guru who instructs against the instruction of spiritual, he is not a siksa guru. He is a demon. Siksa-guru, diksa-guru means... Sometimes a diksa-guru is not present always. Therefore one can take learning, instruction, from an advanced devotee. That is called the siksa-guru. Siksa-guru does not mean he is speaking something against the teachings of the diksa-guru/Acarya. He is not a siksa-guru. He is a rascal." Srila Prabhupada Lecture on Bhagavad-gita 17:1-3, 07-04-74, Honolulu
