are the foods that Srila Prabhupada said could be eaten on Ekadasi when He was asked. He specifically said no rice, grains, beans. Sin personified hides in these foods on ekadasi. So we do not eat them or anything made from them. Powdered hing is mixed with grains so that can not be used. There are many foods that can be eaten that are energizing and very filling so you can work - for example potatoes, yogurt, milk etc. Fruit is very energizing. If possible on Ekadasi fast for as long as you can and then eat only the authorized foods. Also, try chant extra rounds on ekadasi. Rice is one of the worse things you can eat on ekadasi so I find it hard to believe that anyone would tell someone that it is ok to eat it especially when there are many foods that are equally filling and energizing.

I saw the pic yesterday and they freaked me out!! I could not read the article when I saw it. Question: are they deadly? The pic reminded me of that movie Anacrophobia (spelling?) and made me wonder just what was hitch hiking back with the soldiers and their gear.

Why? First of all, they do not see it as a human with feelings. Secondly, if someone is capable of aborting their baby and think nothing of it then why would it be a shock that they would allow it to be filmed. People who get abortions or do abortions have not regard for human life, no conscious so nothing they would do would surprise me. It would sicken me but no surprise.

The very minute your eyes open in each morning say "All glories to Sri Sri Radha Krishna" (or if you serve Radha Krsna deities - Their names). And say "All glories to Srila Prabhupada". On your way to the shower sing or chant the Maha Mantra. Chanting the mahamantra in the shower cleanes us from the inside as we cleanse the bodies with the soap and water. Before taking rest in the evening read a chapter from the Krsna Book and then as you lay down to rest thank Prabhupada and Krsna for giving you the opportunities to serve (even if they were minute) and ask forgiveness for any offenses you may committed while serving Their Lotus Feet. Reading the Krsna Book is a nice way to help us remember Krsna and His pastimes during each day. Above all chant....chant on your beads and as you go through your day chant even if it is silent. If unable to remember to say the "All glories...." when you wake up in the morning - stick a reminder to your alarm clock or somewhere else your eyes will fall when you awaken. Sometimes we have to trick these polluted minds of ours in the right direction.

Ok, a nomination is made and then a six month waiting period in which we wait to see if anyone objects to the nomination. So, it could be said that there is no actual "voting in of guru" but what is the difference?

to chant anytime you are not having to use your mouth to speak with other people. I would like to add that anytime you even remotely consider some mundane activity or laziness (ie watching television) go get your beads instead and start chanting.

Pray to Prabhupada, chant the Holy Names and give the nice devotees on this forum (not me, I am too fallen) a chance. Perhaps we will both learn and our hearts will soften with love for Krsna. Other than that I can only offer my two ears to listen in a non-judgemental fashion. Also, we are both on the same page about Prabhupada...He is indeed an uttama adhikari and we should always act in accordance to His divine instructions... Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!!!

Yes I agree with you. I am very sorry when I hear that someone has been abused and mistreated in some way by "devotees". Been there myself and I know how painful it can be. Com'n Veronica, we aren't the ones that were mean to you. Somebody has been very mean to you - I suspect - and i am sorry to hear that. But understand that not everybody is going to be that way with you. There are some very nice people on this forum with many years of KC experience. Give them a chance....
