  1. nother Chief Justice has Chart 11. The 10th lord in the 6th is in mutual aspect with the exalted Jupiter. Saturn is in his own mulatrikona with Mars aspecting the Lagna. The 5th has the Sun and Mercury. Intellect, analytical mind, exposition of intricate problems and firmness of decision are clearly indicated here. Chart 12 shows an exalted lord of the 6th in the 4th. The 6th and the 10th are aspected by Jupiter, who in turn, is aspected by Saturn. The 5th has the lord of Lagna and the 10th. Again the part played by Jupiter and Saturn is clear in the case of Justice Untwalla. The 5th lord exalted in the 8th and aspected by Mars and Jupiter shows a slow and continuous uphill track. Chart 13 is that of another high court Judge. Here the lord of the airy Lagna is in 6, while the 6th lord aspects Lagna with Venus. The 10th has the powerful aspect of the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. Again Jupiter and Saturn have revealed their power in the career of a Judge. Chart 14 is that of a professor of law in a University. He took his doctorate in law a few years back. Here the 6th lord Jupiter is with Saturn and yogakaraka Mars. The lord of Lagna aspects the 6th. Mars is also the lord of 10th. Again we notice the role of Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter’s association with the 10th lord and his aspect on the 4th lord (who has exchanged signs with Saturn) probably explains this position in the teaching line. Jupiter and Saturn play a major role in the careers of successful advocates, jurists and judges. The have a relation to houses 6 or 10 or both, and to airy signs in general. For an analytical and keen mind Mars and Mercury should be well placed, along with the 5th house and its lord. CHARTS • For the sake of easy reference the charts are cast as per Lahiri’s Ayanamsa. 2. LAW IS one of the intellectual professions. It demands a strong 5th house and an equally strong lord of the 5th house. Airy signs have to be prominent – Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The planet governing law is Jupiter, while Saturn is the planet of justice. Besides these two major planets, there are others involved. Mercury governs communication, mental and physical. Mars regulates energy and the initiatory force. Jataka Parijata observes that one having Jupiter in the 9th aspected by the Moon and Saturn becomes and exponent of law (14.72); and that Mars associated with Venus also gives the legal profession (18.76). The second observation is debatable since it refers neither to Jupiter nor to Saturn nor to Mercury. The 10th lord placed in the 6th brings the native towards the judiciary. Libra generally governs lawyers, solicitors and judges. Jupiter or Saturn in the 10th in Libra refers to the law. The same result arises when Jupiter and Mercury are in Aries or Sagittarius in the 10th. The Sun in Gemini refers to an analytical study of law. Aquarius is another powerful legal sign. The 6th house seems to have something to do with the judiciary. We will explain some of these principles with the help of examples. Chart 1 is that of the first President of our Republic. The 10th lord Mercury is with Mars in Lagna, aspected by Jupiter who in turn aspects the 5th house and its lord. The 5th is also aspected by Venus from his own sign. Chart 2 is that of a successful advocate who earned much. Here Saturn as lord of the 5th and the 6th is in Lagna with Rahu, aspected by the Moon and Mars from Jupiter’s house. The 5th has the intellectual Mercury with the Sun. The third chart is that of Mr. P N Lekhi who argued for the defence of the alleged assassins of Mrs. Gandhi. The positions are similar. Jupiter aspects the 6th which is an airy sign having the Sun. Mercury is along in the 5th. Chart 4 is that of T Prakasam, former chief minister of Andhra. Here Saturn fro Jupiter’s house aspects the 6th. Mercury and Venus are well placed in the 5th, giving him sharp intellect. Jupiter as lord of the 9th aspects the 10th house along with the Sun and Mars. In the fifth chart the lord of the 9th and the 10th, Saturn, is aspecting the exalted Jupiter from Lagna, the lord of the 5th is in his own airy sign Again Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury have made him a very famous advocate, who declined the post of a judge in the Madras High Court. Such was the great Alladi Krishnaswamy Iyer. The sixth chart is that of Hari Singh Gour who was an authority on constitutional law and the Hindu law of property. Here Jupiter as the 5th lord is in the 10th aspecting Saturn, Venus and Mercury who are in the second in Jupiter sign. The fifth is aspected by the Moon and by the lord of the sixth, these being in turn aspected by Saturn. The airy sign Gemini and Aquarius are well aspected by Saturn and Jupiter. In chart 7 Jupiter and Saturn are in mutual aspects involving the third and the ninth houses. Saturn also aspects the 5th lord and the 5th house, the latter being aspected also by Jupiter. Powerful Jupiter also aspects the Lagna which has the Sun and Mercury. Mars also aspects Saturn. She is working as a Civil Judge. Chart 8 is that of late R Lakshmanan. The airy Gemini has its own lord Mercury with Venus. Jupiter as lord of 9 and 12 aspects the 10th lord Saturn. The 10th is well aspected by three planets. He rose to be a District Judge. Mark also Gajakesari Yoga involving houses 4 and 10. Saturn’s aspect on the 6th is equally telling. Let us turn to the chart of some Judges of the High Courts. In chart 9 the 10th lord Jupiter is having a mutual aspect with Saturn and Venus. The 10th is tenanted by the Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury. Though the airy signs are unoccupied Gemini is strongly aspected by the Sun and Mars and by the lords of 4 and 5. This has given the native a powerful ability to offer an analytical interpretation of law. He is a High Court Judge. In chart 10 the yogakaraka Saturn in his own 4th with Mercury (lord of the airy 9th) aspects the 10th. Jupiter is in another airy sign with the Sun and Mars aspecting the 9th. Intellect, analysis and steadfastness are secured. Mars with Rahu aspects the 6th, the house of the Judiciary. He became a judge of the Madras High Court.
  3. Exchange of Planets <HR> <CENTER>by Meghamala V Natu</CENTER> We know that when the lord of a quadrant combines with the lord of a trine a Rajayoga results. Or a mutual exchange between quadrant and a trine lords results in a Rajayoga. A Rajayoga is a very auspicious combination and its placement in a Kendra or a trine increases the value of a horoscope. But after studying quite a good number of horoscopes it has been noticed that mutual exchange between the seventh and fifth lords is quite damaging considering married life and progeny. I will illustrate a few examples to trace my point. Birth Chart No.1. Aries: Lagna; Cancer: the Moon; Leo: Venus, Mars and Ketu; Virgo: Saturn; Libra: the Sun and Mercury; Aquarius: Rahu; and Pisces: Jupiter. This is the chart of a female native born on 22-10-51. She got married in May, 72 to an Engineer who was class I officer in Railways. Within a month after marriage, the native discovered that the husband was having extra-marital relations with two other ladies. On questioning the husband she got his severe beating and seeing the other ladies coming to her husband on and often made her life miserable. At last after two months she left the husband and went to her parents' place. After two years of separation, she got divorce from the court. Now in her horoscope, we see that the seventh lord Venus is in the fifth and fifth lord the Sun is in the seventh debilitated. In addition to this, Venus the Karaka for marriage is spoiled by Mars and Ketu. These damaging factors shattered her married life. Chart No.2. Gemini: Lagna, Rahu; Cancer: Saturn and Mars; Libra: Jupiter; Sagit: the Sun, Venus, Ketu and Mercury; Capricorn: the Moon. This is the chart of a lady who suffered from abortions, miscarriages etc. for seven to eight times after the birth of first born daughter who is luring. Here also we see that there is a mutual exchange between the seventh and fifth lords, i.e. Jupiter and Venus. Chart No.3. Cancer: Lagna; Scorpio: Saturn; Sagit: Ketu; Capricorn: Jupiter and Mars; Aquarius: Venus; Pisces: the Moon and Mercury; Aries: the Sun; Gemini: Rahu. This is the chart of a lady who gave birth to two children, but both died within one week or so after their birth. The native suffered from menstrual trouble and had many abortions also. Here also there is a mutual exchange between the fifth and seventh lords, i.e. Mars and Saturn. Chart No.4. Libra: Lagna, Rahu; Scorpio: the Sun, Venus and Mercury; Capricorn: the Moon; Aquarius: Mars; Pisces: Jupiter; Aries: Saturn and Ketu. This is the chart of a native who is unmarried even at the age of forty years. Here we see that there is a mutual exchange between the fifth and seventh lords, i.e. Saturn and Mars. In addition, Rahu-Ketu axis is in seventh houses. Chart No.5. Virgo: Lagna, the Moon; Scorpio: Rahu, Mars; Capricorn: Jupiter; Pisces: Saturn; Taurus: Venus and Ketu; Gemini: the Sun and Mercury. This female native got married at a very late stage, i.e. at the age of thirty years. But it has been reported that domestic happiness is totally lacking due to some unknown reasons. Here also there is a mutual exchange between seventh and fifth lords, i.e. Jupiter and Saturn. Also Venus is spoiled by Mars and Ketu. Therefore we see that even though mutual exchange between seventh and fifth lords results in a Rajayoga according to Astro-Science, its effects are damaging considering married life and progeny. 4. <CENTER>5. Whether Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th is at all harmful</CENTER> Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th if conjoins with Mars or gets aspects from Mars causes all sorts of violent deaths. Conjunction of Saturn and Mars in violent signs (Aries, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius) is a very dangerous affliction which generally causes violent accidental deaths. I will now explain this phenomenon by example horoscopes: - (a) Death by assassination Birth-chart: Taurus-Mars and Rahu; Scorpio-Ketu; Sagittarius-Saturn; Capricorn-Sun and Mercury; Aquarius-Venus and the Moon; Aries-Jupiter (Born on 15.1.1929 at 1 p.m.) This is the horoscope of the American Negro leader of non-violence Dr Martin Luther King who won Nobel peace prize in 1964. He was assassinated on 4.4.1968. Saturn is placed in the 8th aspected by Mars. Conjunction of Mars and Rahu is placed in a violent sign Taurus and in the lagna. These two afflictions caused his violent death. Thus astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th proved to be very evil. (b) Death by plane crash. Birth-chart: Aries-Ascendant, Mars; Gemini-Ketu; Leo-Jupiter; Virgo-the Moon; Scorpio-Saturn; Capricorn-the Sun, Mercury and Rahu; Aquarius-Venus (Born on 23.1.1897 at 12 p.m.) This horoscope is of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who died in a plane crash on 18.8.1945. Saturn is placed in the 8th in a violent sign Scorpio aspected by Mars by its 8th aspect. This single affliction caused his violent death. © Death by bomb explosion. Birth-chart: Sagittarius-Ascendant; Capricorn-Rahu; Aries-Jupiter; Cancer-Ketu and Saturn; Leo-the Moon; Virgo-the Sun and Mercury; Libra-Mars. (Born on 25.9.1916 at 12.30 p.m.) This is the horoscope of Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyay who died of bomb explosion. Saturn is posited in the 8th along with Ketu. Astama Sani proved to be very dangerous in his life. (d) Death by execution. Birth-chart: Aquarius-Ascendant, Jupiter; Aries-the Moon; Taurus-Rahu; Virgo-Saturn and Mars; Scorpio-the Sun, Venus, Ketu and Mercury. (Born on 15.11.1891 at 12.15 noon) This is the horoscope of German Field Marshall Erwin Rommell. He tried to assassinate Hitler in a coup-de-etat but failed. He was the executed by Military Court-Marshal. Saturn is placed in the 8th along with Mars aspected by Rahu. Thus astama Sani proved to be very evil in his life. 5. <CENTER>4. Conjunction of Saturn and Mars in Violent signs causes all sorts of natural disasters</CENTER> It is true that the conjunction of Saturn and Mars in a violent sign (Aries, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius) causes all sorts of natural disasters like earth quakes, cyclones, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and storms. I will now explain this by examples as under: - (a) 26.8.1883. Netherlands rocked; eruption of Krekatoas; violent explosions destroyed two-thirds of the Island; 36000 people died; many buildings collapsed. Saturn and Mars were then conjoined in Taurus, a violent sign. Venus and Mercury conjoined in Cancer. (b) 28.10.1891. Mino and Owain Provinces near Nagoya, Japan severely rocked; 7500 people killed; 2 lac houses destroyed; many rendered homeless. Saturn and Mars at that time conjoined in Virgo. Venus and Mercury also conjoined in Libra. © 12.6.1897. Assam severely jolted; destroyed many buildings; thousands of people killed. At that time Mars was in Leo and Saturn in Scorpio, both aspecting each other. (d) 18.4.1906. San Francisco severely jerked; destroyed hundreds of buildings thousands lost their lives. Saturn was in Aquarius and Mars in Aries. Both were placed in violent signs. Saturn had 3rd aspect on Mars. The Sun and Moon conjoined with Saturn in Aquarius. (e) 15.12.1916. Kemsu, China severely rocked; great landslides occurred killing lacs of people; many buildings were shaken into pieces; lacs of trees uprooted. Saturn was then in Cancer and Mars in Sagittarius. Mars had 8th aspect over Saturn. Ketu and Saturn conjoined in Cancer. (f) 1.9.1923. Tokyo was severely rocked; many buildings destroyed; lacs of people killed; Rahu and Mars then conjoined in Leo – a fiery sign. Saturn and Rahu are identical planets. So this conjunction in a fiery sign Leo gave the worst natural disaster. From the above, you will find that the conjunction of Saturn and Mars in a violent sign causes all sorts of natural calamities.
  6. <CENTER>3. Saturn is the creator of all sorts of historical events</CENTER> Saturn gets detrimented in Cancer. Its ruler the Moon is a strong enemy of Saturn. When transit Saturn enters into Cancer and stays there for 2 and half years and when conjoins with Mars there, world's most important historic events usually happen during that time. When Saturn was in Cancer during August 1621 to 1623 conjoining with Mars about July 1622, Emperor Jehangir was then ruling India and lots of wars and mass killings happened during that time. In England, it conjoined with the accession of King James-I. In France, Cardinal Richlew was then the most powerful personality. When Saturn entered Cancer again in July 1651 conjoined with Mars in August 1652 and entered Leo in Aug. 1653, we found Emperor Aurangzeb forcibly occupied the throne of India by throwing his father Emperor Shahjehan into jail. In England, Cromwell abolished Parliament and England was ruled by military dictatorship. In France, autocracy triumphed. Saturn again entered Cancer on 19.6.1887 and stayed there till 4.8.1889. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer 21.8.1887. During this period, many important historical events took place. India was then under the British Rule. Dadabhai Naoroji became the President of the Indian National Congress which was established in 1885. Surendra Nath Banerjee joined congress and established 'Indian Association'. Gopal Krishna Gokhale formed 'Servants of India Society'. General Lord Dufferin was then the Viceroy of India (1884 and 1888). Bal Gangadhar Tilak declared 'Swaraj is my birth-right and I will have it'. In Germany, Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm-II died at the age of 91 and his son Fredrick-III became the new Emperor. Russia was then under the emperor Czar Alexander-III. President Cleveland of the U.S. extended the Monroe Plan and mediated the conflict between England and Venezuela. Saturn entered Cancer on 6.8.1916 and stayed there till 16.9.1918. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer on 2.9.1917. During this period, the First World War was started and took away millions of lives and it destroyed many properties. In India, terrorists started activities under the leadership of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In 1916, Lala Lajpat Rai established 'India Home Rule League' in the United States. Bagha Jatin tried to free India by an armed fight with the British soldiers but failed. Mrs. Annie Besant became the President of Indian National Congress. Viceroy Chelmsford introduced Govt. of India Act and Rowlett Act. There was mass firing at Jaliyanwalla Baag on 13.4.1919. The Mahatma Gandhi started his 'Quit India' movement. President Wilson of the U.S. established the League of Nations in 1917. The Great Russian Revolution also took place in 1917. In May 1946 Saturn entered Cancer on 10.6.46 and stayed there till Jan. 1948. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer on 22.9.47. During this time three most important historical events occurred in India, viz., India became independent, Pakistan was created and Mahatma Gandhi died of bullet injury on 30.1.48. In July 1975, Saturn again entered Cancer, stayed there till 26.8.77. In 1976, Smt. Indira Gandhi, the 3rd Prime Minister of India lost her position and power by wrongly declaring the General election. India then came under the Janata Rule. Morarji Desai became the 4th Prime Minister of India. So transit Saturn when comes in Cancer and conjoins with Mars, most important historical events usually happen.
  7. <CENTER>. Saturn determines the course of destiny in one's life.</CENTER> A strong Saturn is absolutely essential in a horoscope to accomplish anything worthwhile, which is why it has been rightly called the planet of destiny, because it appears to be the common denominator in the charts of those who have made their mark in the world. A horoscope with a weak Saturn denotes a weak and colourless person who can't do anything either for himself or for the country. A detrimented Saturn in a trik house causes permanent physical disability and gives the native too many troubles and hardship in his path of progress. He then fails to rise in life and leads a vegetable existence, which has got no meaning at all. A combust Saturn in an evil house along with Mars causes violent accidental death. Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th along with Mars or any aspect of Mars to Saturn in the 8th also causes violent accidental death like the case of Netaji Subhas Ch. Bose and Martin Luther King. A retrograde Saturn in the 5th or 9th makes one a strong personality or a creative genius. A combust Saturn along with Ketu in the 10th makes one a great political leader. Capricorn is Saturn's home sign where he expresses his best qualities most naturally. Libra is his sign of exaltation and Aries is his sign of fall. Saturn's natural reserve, caution, patience and aptitude for careful planning are at its best in Libra but these same qualities clash with Aries' fire and combativeness. Saturn shows its evil nature most effectively when posited in its detrimented sign Cancer. Saturn is a strong karmic planet. Saturn actually determines the course of destiny in one's career if posited in a strong angular or a strong trine house and the native then rises very high in life despite hardships, troubles and delay. Saturn brings fortunes late in life. Saturn burns away one's past sins by putting him in trouble and distressed. The most remarkable event happens when the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter is posited in the karmic destiny signs like the 5th or 9th. The 5th house indicates past karmic effects in this life and that is why it is called 'Purva Punya Sthana'. The 9th house shows the future karmic results. The 5th house stands for creative talent and creative self-expression. The 9th house stands for higher intelligence, higher knowledge and higher inner mind. So Saturn expresses its best qualities if conjoins with Jupiter either in the 5th or in the 9th house and the native gets their best benefits. He then rises to the top just like Rabindra Nath Tagore (Jupiter in the 5th); Boris Pasternak (Saturn in the 9th); Edgar Allen Poe (Ketu and Saturn in the 5th); Virginia Wolfe (Saturn and Jupiter in the 5th); John Milton (Jupiter in the 5th); Mark Twain (retrograde Jupiter in the 9th); Satyajit Ray (retrograde Jupiter and retrograde Saturn in the 9th); Lord Byron (Saturn in the 9th) and so on...
  8. Saturn Determines the Course of Destiny <HR> <CENTER>by N N Saha</CENTER> SATURN is considered as the most evil but strong planet out of nine planets. Saturn is barren, name, building, cold, dry, defensive, hard, honest, sincere, masculine, earthy, melancholic, nervous and secretive planet. Saturn causes delay. It can even deny the best things of life. It also disappoints. Disharmony, dispute, difficulty, despondency, defection and differences are the outcome of an evil Saturn. Responsibilities, accuracy, precision, perfectness, and definiteness are dignified saturnine qualities. Plodding, perseverance, patiently working, prudence, economy, saving, endurance, industry, thrift, savings, power to keep secrets, stability, self-control, sense of duty, etc. are attributed to a beneficial Saturn. Saturn is the principle of contraction. It moves things towards stability. It gives the power to save and accumulate wealth. It assists one to acquire landed properties. Saturn gives perfection, precision, sophistication and refinement in every field of activity if posited in angular or trine houses. It rules the solid foundation of things, real estate, permanent buildings and fixed assets. It gives firmness of conviction, prudence, patience, dependability, capacity for hard work and fidelity when dignified. It is the planet of constitutional law. Saturn's influence is heavy, restrictive and lasting. Saturn governs the dried regions of the body i.e. teeth, bones, knees, spinal cord, nerves, spleen and sense of hearing. It gives chronic diseases like neurotic ailment, nervous disorders, spleen disorders, dental troubles, etc. when afflicted. Saturn governs the two signs of the Zodiac i.e. Capricorn and Aquarius, the 10th and 11th houses of the natural Zodiac. He is exalted in Libra, debilitated in Aries and detrimented in Cancer and Leo. Saturn rules elders, debts and repayment, wills and estates, jails, prisons, exile, paper, shoes, stone, legal matters, traditions, the sense of duty, printing, fertilizers, servants, time, limitations, justice, just rewards, old age, old things and the past. Saturn is the Karaka (significator) of the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th houses. Stupidity, dullness, want of originality, dearth of ideas, laziness and idly wasting time are the outcome of ill posited Saturn. Saturn denotes all matters kept hidden or secret, excavation of tunnels, underground trenches and burial ground. Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses from its position. His favourite stone is blue sapphire and his metal is steel. During transit, Saturn stays in one sign for 2 and half years.
  9. See the vargas specifically D9, if the planets are not in good shape in D9 than the yogas do not manifest. Morever if a single good yoga could fortell ,what is the use of all detailed studies. You should work for proper analysis to find the problem. Regards J.s.sandhu
  10. You have a hamsa yog ,one of the five panch mahapurusha yogas. Regards J.s.sandhu
  11. Dear anusha ji, Since the Experts like Sh KN Rao and sanjay rath differ in opinion ,its up to the aspirants to use their own point of view, It is believed that rahu and ketu are always retrograde, now this makes this topic all the more volatile and confusing, As per BPHS the bible of astrology only rahu has an aspect.so we can trust the treatise to guide us to our point of reckoning. Regards J.s.sandhu
  12. According to Jyotish pandits, Rahu and Ketu maintains a distance of 180 degrees and moves round the Sun. They stay in a house for nearly 18 months and takes about 18 years for a complete movement of houses on astrological charts. As they happens to be nodes, they do not have any lordship in any house. However, some astrologers says that lordship is attached to Rahu for Kanya Rasi while for Ketu to Meena Rasi. But, still it is debatable one. However, Rahu in Mesha, Vrushaba, Mithuna, Karkataka, Kanya, Vruschika and Kumba rasis and the in the ninth house is powerful. They aspects from their position in a house to the fifth, seventh and ninth houses. They gives results in which house they are positioned. If in Vrushaba Rasi, gives the results of the lord of their respective houses. It may be noted that in the natal chart, if Rahu is in the first, second, third, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, he bestows positive results. Like wise Ketu in Vruschika, Dhannus, Meena rasis, he is very strong. He will give sudden results. By analyzing the position of the placement of Rahu and Ketu, we can come to know the position of native as they plays an important role. According to some texts, Rahu is called as Sarpa while Ketu is termed as tail. If all the planets are in between Rahu and Ketu, it is considered as Kal sarp dosha If the native is under the influence of Kalasarpa dosha, the following sarpa sapa yogas will happens. Some of them is as under. If Rahu is positioned in the fifth house and aspects Kuja Shani in the fifth house and the lord of the fifth house is with Rahu and aspects Chandra The lord of the fifth house happens to be Kuja and associates with Rahu and not aspected by positive planets aspects. If Guru associates with Kuja, and lord of the house associates with Rahu or Rahu in lagna, fifth, eighth and twelfth houses. If Rahu associates with Budha or aspects in Karkataka and Dhannur lagna The lord of the house associates with Rahu and the lord of the fifth house associates with Kuja and aspects Guru The above positions indicates that the native will not have children. In the natal chart, Chandra with Rahu and in the Ketu in the eighth house causes Sarpa sapa. Some of the yogas causes due to Rahu Kapata Yogam Shani in the fourth house and Rahu in the twelfth house causes this yoga. This type of yoga results that there will not be any relationship with practicality vs theory. Kroda yogam If Rahu or Ketu in lagna with Ravi, Budha and Sukra, this yoga forms. It will leads to disputes, controversies etc., the native may have to face losses and misery. Pisacha yogam If Rahu with Chandra in lagna, this Pisacha yoga forms. The native will suffer with severe diseases. He will have problems with higher officials and subjected to humiliations. Remedial measures: Keep a Sampurna Kalasarpa Yantra and recite Sarpasukta parayana regularly. Naga Gayatri japa will be advantageous one. Donate Naga and Nagini idol made of silver and donate the same in Lord Shiva temple on Monday. Offer prayers to Lord Ganapati To minimize the negative effects, natives have to offer prayers to Goddess Saraswati Devi, according to Lal Kitab Wear a silver ring studded with the gems of Gomedikam and Vaiduryam (Cat's eye) will minimize the negative effects Recite this mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavate vasudevaya' daily for 108 times. Offer abishekam to Lord Shiva during Sravanamasam Perform Sravana Monday vratam will equally benefit the native. Recitation of Shiva sahasranamavali and Hanuman Sahasranamam will please Rahu and Ketu. Wearing of light blue colored dress and also donating such dress or rose colour dress will please Rahu and Ketu. Recitation of Rudrastadyayam in Sravanamasam will please Rahu and during Navarathri days, prayers to Goddess Durga will please Ketu. If the gravity is severe, it is advised to perform japa of Mrutyanjaya mantra by a brahmin.
  13. Dear Anusha ji & Atul ji , Please go through the the following article by SH Sanjay Rath for clarity. Regards J.s.sandhu Sri Jagannath Vedic Center (2000) LESSON # 9 1 1 Rath’s Lectures Compiled by J Sarat Chander, Jyotish Guru, SJVC KETU AND THE VARIOUS FORMS Rahu & Ketu, we all know, are the two nodes. These two nodes are very difficult to understand. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad. Their natures are so deceptive that predictions become really dicey. One who has understood them properly will be blessed with good and accurate knowledge as a Jyotisha. Hindu literature is very clear about what exactly are Rahu and Ketu. Maharishi Ved Vyas, the Paramaguru of Jyotish Shastra, has clearly explained the nodes in his immortal work – “Srimad Bhagavatam”. The story of Rahu and Ketu is also detailed elaborately in Vishnu Puran etc., linking these two to the Mohini Avatar of Bhagwan. Relevant quotes could be found in Srimad Bhagavatam etc. Let me explain the traditional scripture a little for the benefit of understanding these nodes. It so happened that Sukracharya (Venus) was blessed with the knowledge of “Sanjivani Mantra”1 after great tapasya for the benefit of all people (universal benefit). Armed with this knowledge, Sukracharya could now revive all the dead people. However, Asuraguru as he was, he chose to use the knowledge for the benefit of the Auras contrary to the purpose for which he was blessed with this mantra. Armed with the powers of Sukracharya, the Asuras attacked Devaloka. Sukracharya would revive all the dead Asura soldiers while those on the Devaloka were getting killed. Eventually, being hugely outnumbered, Indra lost his kingdom to the Aruas. When the defeated Devas approached Lord Vishnu for his protection, he advised them to perform “Sagar Manthan”2 to attain Amrit3 consuming which would make 1 Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is called the “Sanjivani Mantra”. The strength of this mantra is so tremendous that it can cure all diseases. Sukracharya, is said to have been blessed with this mantra by Lord Shiva after akhand tapasya and with his ‘tapobal’ and siddhi he had attained powers to revive even the dead. 2 Churning of the ocean. Kurma Avatar of Lord Vishnu is associated with Sagar Manthan. The churning (manthan) was done with the help of Mandara Mountain and Vasuki (the serpent on which Lord Vishnu rests) when Lord Vishnu supported the sinking mountain at its base under ocean in the KURMA AVATAR. © Sri Jagannath Vedic Center (2000) LESSON # 9 2 2 them immortal. After all the churning, when the pot of Amrit was finally obtained, the Devas and Asuras wanted their due share. Sensing a danger in the immortality of Asuras, Lord Vishnu assumed the Mohini Avatar and enchanted the Asuras into submission to accept the distribution of Amrit as Mohini would decide. Swarbhanu, the most cunning and trusted assistants of Sukracharya sensed a trick in the scheme of things and changed his form to look like a Deva and mingled with the Devas. When he was served with his cup of Amrit, Surya detected him and his disguise was blown up. Surya intimated the matter to Chandra (Moon) who instantaneously reported it to Lord Vishnu (Mohini) who severed his head with his Sudarshan Chakra. But, by that time Swarbhanu had already consumed the Amrit. As a result, he had attained immortality, but having been severed by the Sudarshan Chakra the head and body remained separated, which, eventually became Rahu – the head, and Ketu – the body of Swarbhanu. EXALTATION Thus, Rahu always longs for the physical body while Ketu, the headless one, always longs for the head where the Dhi Shakti (supreme intelligence) is present. This is also one of the reasons why the two nodes attain exaltation in Mithuna/Gemini (Rahu) – the natural 3rd house that rules the physical desires, and Dhanu/Sagittarius (Ketu) – the natural 9th house ruled by Jupiter who is symbolic of Dhi Shakti and overlords the department of Moksha. It is also because of this reason that Ketu is known as the Naisargika Moksha Karaka. GANESHA – KETU – AND MOKSHA The traditional literature also explains the reason why Ketu is said to represent Lord Ganesha4 and is associated with the department of Moksha as its karaka. Goddess Parvati created a clay model of a baby boy and infused life into it. She then ordered him to stand guard while she had her ablutions. Lord Shiva who returned home was stopped by this boy from entering the house. Infuriated with this act, Lord Shiva killed the boy by severing his head with his Trishul5, without realizing that after all the boy was his own son as it was Goddess Parvati who had created him out of clay and infused life in him. When Goddess Parvati learnt of her son’s death, she demanded that the boy be brought back to life. Lord Vishnu then ordered that the head of the first visible living being be brought for bringing back the life in the Lord Shiva consumed the poison spewed by Vasuki, thus, saving the universe. This poison, which was arrested right in his throat, left a blue mark due to which Lord Shiva is also known as ‘NEELKANTH’. 3 Nectar, which bestows immortality or Amaratva. 4 Reference can be made from Shiv Puran etc. 5 Trident held by Lord Shiva © Sri Jagannath Vedic Center (2000) LESSON # 9 3 3 child. The first available living being was Iravata6, a white elephant, whose head was severed and brought back to revive the dead child of Parvati, and is thus also called Gajapathy. Lord Vishnu placed the head of the elephant and revived the child back to life and named him Ganesha. As it was Lord Vishnu who gave life to Ganesha, the entire focus or Dhyana of Lord Ganesha is on Maha Vishnu. Hence, Lord Ganesha is known to naturally give the gati7 for Moksha to any individual who prays to him. Since the body of the baby boy was made out of clay and later on life infused in it by Goddess Parvati, Ketu is also associated with our physical body. Since Ganesha got the head of an elephant, Ketu, whenever placed in Sagittarius, is known to have assumed the Gajendra Rupa. Similarly, Ketu is said to assume the head of the animal indicated by the respective planet when placed in their respective houses, for example – when placed in the house of Mars it is said to assume the head of Markata or a monkey. .(78 ± 3$1&+$ 7$7:$ 9('$6 Brihaspati (Jupiter) rules the Aakasha Tatwa and this Akash Tatwa, in turn has the deity Maha Vishnu in the teachings of Maharishi Parasara. Being the ruler of Pisces, Brihaspati is the overlord of the department of Moksha and as Indra rides Gajendra the elephant. Lord Ganesh who is called Gajapathy due to his elephant head, is the natural karaka for Moksha as he is always in Dhyana of Vishnu. Ketu assumes the Gaja Rupa when placed in Dhanu (Sagittarius) – a rasi owned by Jupiter, and as it represents Ganesha, becomes the natural/Naisargika karaka for Moksha. Therefore, Ketu is a great benefic planet for the purpose of Moksha Gati. Thus, Ketu as Lord Ganesha represents the Aakasha Tatwa so far as Moksha Gati is concerned. The further divisions of the Tatwa and their relativity with Ketu in its various forms are rendered in the form of the Four Vedas – the Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. In the scheme of the relativity of the Tatwa with the Vedas and the four other forms of Ketu, Sun and Moon being the luminaries – the Atma and Mana respectively, are exempt from consideration. Rahu too is left out as he is responsible for rebirth due to desires and is opposed to Moksha. The further four divisions and the forms are detailed in the following table and the pictures: 6 This Iravata is different from the vehicle/vahana of Indra. There is a puranic story behind why this Iravata was sighted first for its head to be severed and used for reviving Lord Ganesha. This incident was also to liberate Iravata from a curse. This liberation was to come on the orders/advice of Lord Vishnu who was responsible to revive Goddess Parvati’s dead child and rename him as Ganesha. 7 Direction © Sri Jagannath Vedic Center (2000) LESSON # 9 4 4 VEDA RUPA (FORM) TATWA PLANET SIGNS All Knowledge (Veda) Gaja8 Rupa Akash Tatwa Jupiter All signs Rig Veda Go9 Rupa (Ketu with Cow head) Jala Tatwa Venus Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces (Water signs) Sama Veda Aja10 Rupa (Ketu with Goat head also called Ajaikapada) Vayu Tatwa Saturn Gemini, Libra & Aquarius (Airy signs) Yajur Veda Haya11 Rupa (Ketu with Horse head also called Hayagreeva) Prithvi Tatwa Mercury Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn (Earth signs) Atharva Veda Markata12 Rupa (Ketu with Monkey head like Hanuman) Agni Tatwa Mars Aries, Leo & Sagittarius (Fire signs) RAHU – KETU AND ASPECTS From the above, it is clear that Rahu has the head and Ketu has no head to cause aspect or drishti. Maharishi Parasara has clearly explained this in BPHS, from which we get to understand aspects of all the planets, including the special aspects of Mars, Juptier, Saturn (being the outer planets) and that of Rahu. Rahu, in addition to the normal 7th house aspect, also aspects the 5th, 9th and the 12th from its placement. The 5th and 9th house part of the aspects are in opposition to the aspects of Jupiter who too aspects these houses in addition to the normal 7th house aspect. This is because, Rahu is always opposed to the Devaguru Brihaspati and does exactly the opposite of what Brihaspati does. Thus, while Brihaspati aspects the 5th and 9th houses for ‘Poorva Punya’ and ‘Bhagya’ (fortune) respectively, Rahu aspects the same houses to damage them due to ‘Poorva Paapa’ and ‘Daridra’ or misfortune respectively. In addition, however, Rahu also has the 12th house aspect because of which it gives him the powers (sixth sense) to see through shadyantra/scheming. As for the results from the placement of the nodes in different Rasis, houses and Arudas standard texts may be referred. 14. Rahu and Ketu are the Lunar Nodes in Vedic Astrology. Rahu and Ketu - (excerpts from "The Ascendant - The 108 Planets of Vedic Astrology") Rahu and Ketu are the Lunar Nodes in Vedic Astrology. They are Grahas in that they grab and attach us to our karma just like the starry Grahas, yet they do not rule over Rasis like the other starry planets. They are shadows, the eclipse points where the Earths orbit around the Sun intersects with the Moons orbit around the Earth. Even though they are not physical planets they are perhaps the most influential forces in the chart. It is along the Rahu / Ketu axis that the main forces of karmic desire are seen. The myth of Rahu and Ketu sheds much light on their function and greater possibility. Shortly after the beginning of time, the Gods and demons were in a terrible war, neither side making any progress. So they decided to join forces and churn the milk ocean to get the pot of amrita (immortal nectar) at the bottom. Once the nectar was extracted then came the job of distributing it. The Gods, not wanting the nectar to fall into the hands of the demons, devised a plan. Lord Vishnu disguised himself as the enchanting and beautiful Mohini to distribute the nectar. The Gods and Demons were seated on two different sides of an aisle as Mohini distributed the nectar to the Gods only. The demons were too enchanted by her beauty to notice she was not giving them the nectar. However one demon, Rahu, noticed what was happening and disguised himself as a God and managed to get a drink of the nectar. As soon as this happened, the Sun and Moon told Lord Vishnu what was happening and Vishnu returned to his form as Vishnu and let fly his sudarshan and chopped Rahu in half, but only after Rahu managed to take a drink of the nectar. Thus he is immortal, but chopped in half. The head is Rahu and the tail is Ketu. Rahu is a head without a body. Everything he comes into contact with he becomes obsessed with, like a person with a voracious appetite. Rahu represents material desire, but because he is not a physical planet he operates on the subconscious level. He distorts our perceptions and colors the world according to his desires. He tends to obliterate the essence of things, focusing on their material substance. He is our deepest subconscious material desire. Rahu obsesses over the things we need to learn so we can eventually be freed of them. There are certain lessons we can only learn in a physical body, in the physical world. Rahus obsessions indicate those things. All human beings are crazy in some way, Rahu shows the area of life where we are unbalanced and obsessed. Rahu keeps us obsessed until we learn detachment from what he is influencing. As such, he represents attachment. Losing our higher Self to the things of this world is the main reason we suffer in life. Rahus obsessions bring much suffering as long as we desire experience. Once we desire liberation, Rahu is incredibly spiritual. Ketu is the other half of the demon, the headless body. Where Rahu obsesses over the things of this world, Ketu seeks to be freed from them. Rahu is material and loses the essence of things in their substance. Ketu perceives the essence of things but is unsatisfied with anything substantive in the world. Whereas Rahu wants to grow and experience new things, Ketu wants to fall back on the familiar and withdraw, creating a fear of stagnation and disgust with the familiar that is often turned inward as self-disgust. Ketu brings doubt and sharp criticism to the areas of life that he sees. Eternally unsatisfied, he only notices what is missing from whatever he is influencing. He presides over the absolute aspect of God. He is strict and exacting and sucks the worldly joy out of all he touches, including the things Rahu is obsessed over through house and sign. It is the push and pull of Rahus obsession and Ketus doubt that allows the soul to learn the lessons of the Nodal house and sign placement. Rahu and Ketu in Rashis The Rashis show the emotional and psychological forces that compel us to act. The Rashi placement of Rahu will show the psychological temperament we are developing in this lifetime. It shows emotional energy that creates stress in our life. The Rashi of Ketu shows the temperament we have recently developed and where we have skill. It shows where we are critical of others and ourselves. Rahu in Aries / Ketu in Libra - Ketu in Libra shows they have developed a measured and thoughtful approach to decision making, one which carefully considers all consequences and the price to pay. Skill and diplomacy with others is also highly developed. Rahu in Aries shows the native must develop the ability to act on impulse and follow their instincts. This will make them act first and think later as well as be more self interested or self inspired. Rahu in Taurus / Ketu in Scorpio - Ketu in Scorpio shows a native who has experienced the intense, probing nature of the mind, one which is painfully aware of death / rebirth, lifes ups and downs and endings. They have established a certain amount of Peace with that difficult side of life. Rahu in Taurus shows they are learning to develop more consistent emotional patterns, rather than the emotions being pulled to their most turbulent extreme. These increased stability allows for deeper, more long lasting and valuable emotional connections. Given the turmoil possible with the Nodes, they are exalted when in this placement. Rahu in Gemini / Ketu in Sagittarius - Ketu in Sagittarius shows a native who has established a hopeful, idealistic and innately spiritual mindset in their recent lives. Faith in God and a higher purpose are areas of life, which they are well acquainted. Rahu in Gemini will bring forth a curious, multifarious approach that compels the native to test their beliefs not just accept them blindly. This placement will make one Spiritual in a cosmic sense, not just religious in an orthodox sense. The Nodes are also very well placed in this position, as Rahu is able to develop through the psychological quality of Gemini. Rahu in Cancer / Ketu in Capricorn - Ketu in Capricorn will show a native who is skilled in controlling the many external factors in life. Psychological strength was buttressed by a powerful career, bank account, worldly achievement, etc. Rahu in Cancer shows inner emotional strength is being developed in this lifetime. Learning to understand and develop control over our emotional turmoil is the lesson here. This is one the most difficult placements for the Nodes as we feel the need to developed the very area of life where we are the most insecure. Rahu and Ketu in Bhavas The Bhava where Rahu and Ketu resides show external areas of life that we are trying to develop or that we have recently developed. Rahu shows the areas of life that we want to experience, want to achieve. It shows our material attachments. Ketu shows where we would like to withdrawal, what we have already experienced and thus tend to neglect and where we will have detachment. Rahu feels Rahu in the 1st house / Ketu in the 7th house - Ketu in the 7th shows that in recent past lives there was an over reliance on partners and others in general, when defining the sense of Self. This will make for a native who is very critical of partners and partnerships. In this life the Self as and individual is being developed. Thus the native with Rahu in the 1st will see all of lifes situations as opportunities to grow. When un-evolved this will make for high levels of egocentricity, when evolved high levels of Spirituality. These people may have their individuality suppressed early in life in order to find it later. Rahu in the 2nd Ketu in the 8th house - Ketu in the 8th house shows a native who in recent past lives benefited greatly from others resources and other peoples money, thus their inherent sense of value came from others. This will make a person who is very reluctant to rely on others to help them. Rahu in the 2nd house makes for a person who will work hard to develop their own resources, thus allowing them to feel worthy and of value based on their own efforts, not the help of others. These people may have been devalued in some way to force them to find it for themselves. Rahu in the 3rd house/ Ketu in the 9th house - Ketu in the 9th house shows a person who was guided by gurus or teachers or relied on powerful teachers to uplift them and define their belief system, thus they may be very skeptical of teachers and Spiritual teaching in particular. Rahu in the 3rd house will show a native developing the courage to challenge and test their teachings and teachers and to explore their own paradigms of understanding aside from what they are told by others. This will give the native confidence in their own ability to make the right decisions regarding their own fate. These natives may have had an upbringing where an oppressive religious environment led to rebellion. Rahu in the 4th house / Ketu in the 10th house - Ketu in the 10th house shows a native who relied on their worldly status and external power of achievement in order to feel secure. This lead to a person who felt too attached to their actions and ultimately defined by them. They will be skeptical of worldly achievement and all that it brings. Rahu in the 4th house shows a native developing a secure domestic life and the nurturing quality that accompanies it. Escaping from the world into ourselves, and feeling at peace in our own private world is key here. These native may have lacked proper nurturing when young, which compels them to find peace of their own accord. Rahu in the 5th house / Ketu in the 11th house - Ketu in the 11th house show a native who relied on their external ambitions and the admiration of their peers in order to feel important. They willingly subjugated their personal, internal inspirations for the aspiration of others. The native will tend to shun those who wish to be aligned with them through a shared vision. Rahu in the 5th shows the need to develop that which they are the most inspired towards, not that which will make them popular or successful. An individual creative life is the most important to these native. Expressing their unique vision is key. They will likely be tempted to do what the masses deem as popular in order to refine their unique expression. Rahu, Ketu and the Grahas When Rahu joins or aspects a Graha it distorts that planets expression in a way similar to the effects described above. The aspect / conjunction not only affects the planet on a soul level, it affect the planets as a house lord, as a planets primary worldly influence is as a house lord. Rahu will explode the outer form of the Graha as a house lord and Ketu will cause the energy to be withdrawn and criticized. A planetary conjunction is more powerful than an aspect as the conjunction joins the energy of the Node with the energy of the planet. Rahu conjunctions with a Graha show psychological influences that are becoming developed. Planets conjoined Rahu will likely be expressed with immaturity, as is the nature of Rahu. Ketu conjunctions show energies that are already developed and where we have much skill, yet we are trying to finish. Planets conjoined Ketu will likely have maturity and refinement to their expression, yet the native will not feel satisfied with their level of development. Behaviorally Rahu will be over expressive and magnify or exaggerate the qualities of the planets he is associating with, especially through conjunction. This quality of exaggeration is how Rahu brings their forces into our lives. They may be exaggerated externally or internally as psychological forces, or both. All of this is dependant on the houses involved and conditions. Ketu will withdraw and collapse around the planets he is associating with, especially through conjunction. He will tend to hide those things from our view and the view of others as he focuses on them internally. Ketu will try to extract the purest essence from these planets. As such, we will only notice what is missing where Ketu is concerned. In can be stated that the stage of Rahu with a Graha is where the native is in the developmental stage of its energy, and Ketu is where this energy is being completed. Sun Rahu / Sun - The Rahu / Sun association will show a native who projects the power of the Sun and thus may appear very confident and charismatic, yet there is usually stress and fear beneath the surface revolving around a lack of confidence. Much of their bravado and dramatic expression is an over compensation for this fear. The true nature of Self is being developed in this native, thus a large ego can be seen in less evolved types as well as a personality, which over estimates in own importance to others. Over time, a person with this placement becomes more realistic about their own importance and greater understanding of themselves beyond the level of personality. Ketu / Sun - The Ketu / Sun association shows very high levels of self-doubt and shows a native who is not likely to feel content with their worldly actions, they are be a perfectionist. No matter what they do in the world they will feel a sense of lack. The native is being freed from the ego and a need to feel confident and powerful as the skilled eye of Ketu watches every ego game and false expression of Self with disdain. The quality of surrendering their smaller Self to the highest Self is being developed. Many times this will show a Spiritual native. Usually this native has had a childhood where they felt isolated and were made to doubt themselves on a deep, core level. Moon Rahu / Moon - The Rahu / Moon native will have a sense mind and emotional core that are not fully anchored in the heart. Thus there will be an ungrounded quality and stress revolving around their basic feeling nature and expression as an embodied creature in a physical world. It is through the Moon that we take in our environment and either experience ourselves in a joyful or a stressful way. High levels of self-consciousness and feelings of separateness are seen here as the mind looks outside for what it inherently lacks within. Thus painful relationships of all sorts can result. Over time, and as external factors fail to bring peace, the native learns to trust their inner voice and high levels of intuition and even psychic ability can be seen. Ketu / Moon - The Ketu / Moon association shows a native who experiences deep levels of doubt and criticism of their own mind and mental outlook. This is one of the most difficult placements as it can make for a deeply discontented mind and extreme moodiness. Typical worldly experiences and pleasurable emotions can lead to painful episodes under Ketus probing and watchful eye. Many of the moods are from past life events that overtake the native, and then pass. Smaller disturbances trigger mental episodes that neither the native, nor anyone else can control. Yet generally they are good at controlling the emotions as this placement shows, yet control is not the same as having the detachment to enjoy without longing or regret. . Mars Rahu / Mars - The Rahu / Mars association leaves the native feeling stress revolving around the use of personal will and strength. This native will be engaged in power struggles of all sorts. Arguments, impulsiveness and a hostile nature will be likely. Through the dissatisfaction experienced in these arguments and confrontations, they are developing courage to look within for truth and the discipline to take positive, focused action in order to grow toward a true and lasting power. That power cannot be eclipsed by the opinions of another or their perceived superior strength. Ketu / Mars - The Ketu / Mars association shows a native who is skilled in the use of where to exert their personal, will yet they will experience some frustration with how to express this more humbled approach. This native may find himself in situations where they are tempted to fight or do battle on principle. The scrutiny of Ketu / Mars will likely see the futility in such a battle, yet later they will doubt if that was the right thing to do. This behavior may lead to occasional explosiveness and destruction as the Ketu / Mars energy is also finishing the tendency to destroy and break things in frustration. Mercury Rahu / Mercury - The Rahu / Mercury association shows an understanding of skills and information are being developed. This native will feel convinced that if they study, get as many facts as possible and develop their skills accordingly, there will be an ultimate answer. This leads to more and more frustration. as there is always another fact or skill to learn. What is being developed is the realization that the best use for our mind is as a tool that doubts all mental concepts as being ultimate. Rahus exhaustion of skills and information leads the mind to Jnana Yoga, recognizing each incorrect attachment to the thinking process. This allows us to separate truth from fiction. Ketu / Mercury - The Ketu / Mercury association is showing the mind at the point where all mental concepts are in doubt and the highest levels of discrimination are being developed. A very skilled person and one with a probing intellect will be observed. Yet Ketus presence will be keenly aware of the pieces of information they do not have, rather than the ones they do. This can create much worry and mental vacillation as they keep searching for more information to doubt. They are learning to act more on intuition and to use the mind for its highest purpose, to see through the mental traps that give us the illusion of understanding and give the false paradigm of security we base our lives on.

I was just wondering that what aspects of rahu and ketu is considered in vedic astrology. There are 2 views which exists for this. 1.According to K.N.Rao ji rahu and ketu cant have an aspect and u have to consider their dispositor to find out about their effect. His one of the favourite example to proove this is Kennedy's death.Which happened in (Exhalted)rahu dasa(as far as i remember). Thus he doesnt agress with aspects of rahu and ketu. 2.Second view is of Sanjay rath ji(though i read this in PVR Narasimha rao ji's book)According to him rahu has 4 aspects 5,7,9 and 12.Though 12th aspect is considered to be very weak. Now this view is also divided into 2 parts. Some say that ketu have same aspects as rahu i.e.5,7,9,12 BUT some say since ketu was headless thus ketu cant have an aspect. It will be very ncie to get views of expereince members of this forum. One more query:- 12th aspect of rahu is counted in direct or retro direction. Raahu has aspect on the seventh (desire), fifth and ninth (this is hind sight as opposed to foresight) and the 12th in reverse, which is the second sign zodiacally (he can see secret machinations because he himself is a past master in it. Ketu has no head and hence is sightless and hence has no aspects not even the seventh(he is the moksha kaaraka and to get moksha you have to give up even the desire of moksha) because he has no desires. this is my understanding of dristhi (graha). Thank you for bringing this up. vivek <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p>

  19. Afflicted Planets Whenever a planet is already weak for any other reason and is under the close influence of any functional malefic, it is treated as an afflicted planet. But when the planet is not weak for other reasons, it can only be considered afflicted under the exact influence of any functional malefic, becoming a weak planet for that reason. So whenever any planet is afflicted, it becomes weak. The significations of the house having a mooltrikona sign of an afflicted planet are harmed. Afflicting Planets Only the functional malefic planets can be afflicting planets. It is very necessary to understand the difference between afflicting planets and afflicted planets. Dispositor Dispositor is a planet in whose moolatrikona sign another planet is located in the natal chart. QUALITIES AND SEX OF PLANETS The Sun, the Moon, Venus and Mercury are of rajasic nature. Jupiter is of satvic. Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are of tamsic nature. The Sun, Mars, and Jupiter are male while the Moon, Venus, and Rahu are female. Mercury, Saturn and Ketu are eunuchs. FUNCTIONAL NATURE OF PLANETS The functional nature of planets is the key analytical factor in the horoscope analysis. Besides Rahu and Ketu, the planets, whose mooltrikona signs are in malefic houses (sixth, eighth and twelfth) with reference to the ascendant, act as functional malefic planets in a nativity. For this purpose, under the Systems' Approach, the sign Cancer is considered as the mooltrikona sign of the Moon. FUNCTIONALMALEFIC PLANETS The functional malefic planets for various ascending signs are as under: Aries: Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. Taurus: Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Rahu and Ketu. Gemini: Rahu and Ketu. Cancer: Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Leo: The Moon, Rahu and Ketu. Virgo: Saturn, Mars, the Sun, Rahu and Ketu. Libra: Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. Scorpio: Mars, Venus, Rahu and Ketu. Sagittarius: The Moon, Rahu and Ketu. Capricorn: The Sun, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu. Aquarius: The Moon, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. Pisces: The Sun, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. FUNCTIONAL BENEFIC PLANETS The functional benefic planets for various ascending signs are as under: Aries: The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Taurus: The Sun, the Moon, Mercury and Saturn. Gemini: The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Cancer: The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, and Venus. Leo: The Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Virgo: The Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus. Libra: The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Scorpio: The Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. Sagittarius: The Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Capricorn: The Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus and Saturn. Aquarius: The Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Pisces: The Moon, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter.
  20. Strong Planets A strong natal planet protects and promotes its general significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house. Any planet is considered strong when it is not in the state of weakness. It can increase its strength if: a) it is young, i.e. its longitude is between 10º to 20º in a particular sign. b) it occupies own or good navamsa and other divisions. c) it is under the close influence of the functional benefic planets. d) it occupies its exaltation, mooltrikona or own sign. Weak Planets A weak natal planet is not capable of fully protecting/promoting its general significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house during the course of its sub-periods and during the triple transit functional malefic influences. By descending order of weakness, any planet becomes weak when: 1) The most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree. 2) The most effective point of its house of placement is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree. 3) It is conjunct or aspected by any functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree. 4) It is combust due to its nearness to the Sun. 5) It occupies malefic houses from the ascendant, except if in its own mooltrikona sign. 6) It occupies its sign of debilitation. 7) It is in the state of infancy or old-age. 8) It occupies its debilitated sign in navamsa. 9) It occupies the mooltrikona sign of a weak planet. 10) It is the Moon within 72 degrees either side of the Sun. However, this is a minor weakness. NOTE: In serial nos. (1) to (3) above, when the affliction is special or multiple i.e. when it comes from: 1) a conjunction with/ aspect from the most malefic planet, 2) an aspect from a functional malefic planet placed in a dusthana, 3) a conjunction with Rahu or Ketu (Rahu-Ketu axis) 4) an aspect of a functional malefic planet afflicted by other(s) functional malefic planet, 5) more than one functional malefic planet at the same time, Then the otherwise "strong" planet should be considered afflicted (and weak) even when the orb of affliction is of two degrees.
  21. In the horoscopes of women, the Moon gives the following results, when occupying different sign: Aries: The lady does not tolerate other points of views. She is domineering and self-willed. She may become a house-tyrant. She is impulsive and sometimes hot-headed. Taurus:The woman is firm, resolute, somewhat sensual, confident and persevering. She is industrious and generally calm. There is a desire for possession and worldly joys and pleasures. She is tolerant, affectionate and may become stubborn and obstinate if the Moon is afflicted. Gemini:The lady has a restless mind, with a desire for change. There is a craving for diversion. The tendency to nag, comparing the husband with other men will be pronounced. She has the capacity for adaptability also. Intellectual inclination, capacity to love and be loved and quick emotional upsets are the other characteristics of this sign. Cancer:This is generally an ideal place for the Moon provided the constellation is either Punarvasu or Pushyami. The lady loves her home. She is receptive and responsive. She lacks confidence and allows herself to be influenced by more dominant people. Married life will be affected by separation, illness, ill-will and even infidelity if the affliction is severe. Leo:She will have a strong will, dignity and confidence. The emotional life is strong but there is danger of over-bearing. She may be inclined to indulge in show and luxury but she can be an understanding wife though temperamentally incompatible with the husband. Virgo: She has a meticulous mind, a propensity to be critical, a good sense of reality, deft in what she does, practical though often emotional. She has the capacity for discussion, the mental faculties being well developed. Libra:Generally anxious to please the husband and work for harmonious relations with him, but her home-life cannot be happy due to husband’s domineering nature. She is discreet in her actions, fair minded, amiable, likes music and fine arts, and has a propensity for community life. Scorpio:The lady is generally attractive to the opposite sex. She is prone to have miscarriages. Sexual passions are strong and energies are dissipated soon. Sagittarius:The lady is sincere, sincere, frank, kind-hearted and noble. There is a lively disposition and the husband can be moulded by her sheer personality. She is independent and has a quest for knowledge. The mind is restless and somewhat impulsive. She is disappointed in her private life due to her own impetuosity and haste. Capricorn:She is a serious thinker and sober in action. There is attachment though the emotions are not quite consistent. She is practical, cold, and lacks tender regards, and is a matter-of-fact wife. Aquarius:She is tolerant, emotional, restless, practical, benevolent and free from bitterness. She is broad-minded, big-hearted, independent, self-willed, and is guided by her own inner sentiments. She is a task-master and sometimes hard to understand. She is deeply attached to the husband and the family, but married life is often crossed by tension. Pisces: She is sensitive, but receptive and active; she is not able to form independent judgments. Somewhat dreamy, she likes to be in the background. She is sentimental and lacks self-confidence. In the above delineations, if the influences are disturbed by the general structure of the horoscope and by other influences operating on the Moon, the characteristics have to be modified. A woman inclined to romance may go astray if there is a combined influence of Rahu, Mars and Venus. She may confine her romance to her own husband if the influences of Jupiter are dominant. One’s religiousness may descend to trivial rituals if Saturn’s influence is dominant. We do not propose to deal with the question of marriage adaptability in this article. But we should like to say a few words about certain superstitions current in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">India</st1:place></st1:country-region> about so-called Kuja dosha, etc. There is a belief current amongst the public that boys and girls born in certain constellations cause the death of certain relatives. For instance a girl born in Visakha is said to bring about the destruction of her husband’s younger brother, so that parents generally try to find out a bridegroom who does not have a younger brother. Even when there are other merits in the horoscope, it is rejected on the simple ground that the girl is born in Visakha. This is entirely due to ignorance of the real astrological factors governing such considerations. Only certain Padas or quarters should be held inauspicious and not the entire constellation. Thus, in regard to Visakha, only the last quarter is evil and not the first three. Therefore, a girl born in the first three-quarters of Visakha should never be considered to bring misfortune to her husband’s younger brother. Similarly, the boy or girl born in the last quarter of Moola is to be rejected as it is said to cause the death of the father-in-law. The last three-quarters of Moola are highly beneficial. A girl born in Jyeshta is said to cause evil to her husband’s elder brother. Almost all authors agree that (certain parts of) Visakha, Aslesha, Moola and Jyeshta are destructive constellations-Aslesha (first quarter) for mother; Visakha (last quarter) for husband’s younger brother; Jyeshta (first quarter) for girl’s husband’s elder brother; and Moola (first quarter) for father-in-law.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> <o:p>Regards</o:p> <o:p></o:p> <o:p>J.s.sandhu</o:p>
