1. ( Taken from Barbara pinjan Lama Jyotish) Bhavas Related. These constant significances are derivable from the Bhavas, counted from the said constant Karakatwas. The 9th from Surya denotes father, the 4th from Chandra mother, the 3rd from Mangala brothers, the 6th from Budha maternal uncle, the 5th from Guru sons, the 7th from Shukra wife and the 8th from Shani death. The learned should consider all these and declare related effects accordingly.
-- BPHS Ch. 32, shloka 22-24
2. The word karaka means “one who causes”. Karaka of a matter is the significator of the matter. He is the one who causes events related to that matter. There are 3 kinds of karakas: (1) Naisargika karakas (natural significators, 9 in number). (1) Chara karakas (variable significators, 8 in number), and, (1) Sthira karakas (fixed significators, 7 in number), One should not use the three types of karakas in a mixed-up way. Karakas of each type have a specific purpose. One should understand the distinction between chara, sthira and naisargika karakas clearly and use them accordingly. Naisargika karakas shows everything that exists in the creation. They include Rahu, Ketu and the seven planets. They are presided by Brahma. Naisargika karakas show not only human beings, but they show various impersonal things and matters. They show everything that exists in Brahma’s creation and affects a person. Naisargika karakas are very useful in phalita Jyotish, i.e. analysis of general results. Chara karakas include Rahu and the seven planets. They do not include Ketu, as Ketu stands for moksha (emancipation) and does not stand for any person who affects one’s sustenance. Chara karakas are presided by Vishnu and they show people who play a role in one’s life. As Vishnu presides over activities related to sustenance, achievements and spiritual progress, chara karakas show these aspects of one’s life. Chara karakas show people who play an important role in one’s sustenance and achievements. Examples are – mother, father, wife, advisors etc. Chara karakas are very useful in Raja Yogas and in spiritual progress. They also show how our karma (cumulative sum of actions) is carried from one life to another. Sthira karakas include only 7 planets because only they have physical bodies. They are presided by Shiva. As Shiva presides over death, they show the destruction of body. Sthira karakas are useful in timing the death of various near relatives.
3. Dear all you want on gulika.. 'Regards J.s.sandhu Gulika Dr. Suresh Chandra Mishra Gulika holds a position of prime importance in the evaluation of a natal chart. Also called as Maandi, it, like Rahu and Ketu, has no physical existence. But it always makes a difference in the natal chart output. Gulika is generally considered the most malefic entity in a chart. According to the set standards of assessment of maleficence, it surpasses all natural malefics. Gulika enjoys a special status almost like an independent planet, and in astrological classics it is considered as a minor planet or subplanet. In the traditional astrological practice, the Gulika-Kundali (a horoscopic chart, with houses reckoned from the position of Gulika) used to be an essential component of the Janma-patri (the scroll carrying the horoscopic details of a native, according to the traditional system of making horoscopes in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />India). Gulika and Maandi In Vedic astrology, Gulika and Maandi are considered synonymous although some people try to differentiate between them. Gulika denotes a certain segment of time controlled by Saturn. The word ‘Maandi’ is derived from Manda or sluggish, another name of Saturn. According to the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra : ukekUrja rq rL;So ekfUnfjR;fHk/kh;rsAA That is: Of the same (i.e., Gulika), another name is Maandi. Fixing the Gulika The position of Gulika is different for daytime (from sunrise to sunset) and night time (from sunset to sunrise). The duration of the day or of the night (as the case may be) is divided into eight parts. The segment belonging to Saturn is known as Gulika. For daytime, the first segment (the first one-eighth of the night) belongs to the planetary lord of the weekday that falls fifth from the weekday under consideration. The subsequent segments belong similarly to other planets that rule the weekdays in natural order. The eighth part here too is without a lord. In each case the part belonging to Saturn is called as Gulika. The Controversy The segment of Saturn during the day or during the night would have some duration. Some people think that the ending moment of Saturn’s segment is the time to calculate the position of Gulika. They determine the ascendant for the ending moment of Saturn’s part; the cusp thus obtained is considered the ‘longitude’ of Gulika. However, the above-mentioned concept results from an erroneous nderstanding of the shloka from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, which is as follows : xqfydkjEHkdkys ;r~ LQqVa ;TtUedkfyde~A xqfyda çksP;rs rLekr~ tkrdL; Qya onsr~AA That is: The cusp of the sign rising at the beginning of the Gulika segment is considered as Gulika-from this the chart must be analysed. There is a popular, but vague, method of finding out the Gulika. According to this, for a day of 30 Ghatis, the rising time for Gulika during the day, for the seven days from Sunday to Saturday, is at 26, 22, 18, 14, 10, 6 and 2 Ghatis from the time of sunrise. For night time, the order from Sunday onwards is 10, 6, 2, 22, 18 and 14 ghatis from sunset. This method is not accurate. The Prashna Marga, a south India treatise, also refers to the Gulika and Maandi being the same. Results of Gulika • Gulika in the first house most certainly reduces the good results of the chart. The impact is maximum in malevolence when the cusp of the lagna and the Gulika are close in degrees. This means that birth taking place at the commencement of the Gulika-kaala suffers the maximum affliction. In such a situation, the Raja-yogas or other benefic yogas lose their potence. The Phala-deepika states: xqfydL; rq la;ksxks nks"kkUloZ=k fufnZ'ksr~A That is: Determine all adverse results from Gulika’s association. • When the nakshatra of the lagna and Gulika are mutually trinal, the basic benevolence of the lagna nakshatra lord (LNL) is lost. Nakshatras 1, 10 and 19 are mutually trinal. • Gulika spoils the benefic significations of most of the houses by occupying them. Thus, all troubles ensue when Gulika occupies the lagna. In the second house, it curtails family comforts and financial savings. Poor social status results when Gulika occupies the fourth house. In the fifth, it leads to troubles from progeny. And so on. • Of all the sub-planets, Gulika and Yamakantaka (the subplanet represented by Jupiter’s segment) surpass all others in maleficence and beneficance respectively. • Only in houses 3, 6, 10 and 11 does Gulika generate benefical results. In the tenth house, however, it indicates delay in getting established in a career. • The good results of Gulika (from its placement in the above houses) are lost when the rashi and navamsha lords of Gulika are neecha (debilitated) or combust. Gulika with Natural Karakas The association of Gulika with a natural Karaka (significator) always destroys the good effects of that Karaka. Classics hold the opinion that Gulika conjunct with the Sun creates lack of comforts for father, with the Moon it is bad for mother, and with Mars it is adverse for brother. When Gulika joins Mercury, the native becomes mentally disturbed. With Jupiter, the native becomes a hypocrite. Gulika with Venus brings troubles from women and ruins marital life. Association with Saturn leads to disease and skin disorder, with Rahu it leads to proneness to infection, and with Ketu fear from fire. Gulika can alter the results of other planetary yogas in the chart. All good yogas are lost when the birth time and the Gulika-Kaala coincide together with another inauspicious factor like Mahapaata, Gandanta, Visha-Ghati, etc. (refer to our article: ‘Pitfalls in Astrology’, vide the Vedic Astrology Vol. 5, No. 3, May-June 2001 issue). In Chart 1 (born on May 6, 1982; at 11:30 hours; in Nepal), the lagna is Karka (Cancer), at 23º06'. Gulika lagna is 2S11º54', associated with Rahu. The native is mentally retarded. A Mahapaata birth is also confirmed here. A Special Rule A point 180º from Gulika is also considered as acutely malefic in the natal chart. This point must be taken into consideration when the lethal potential of a planet is to be determined. This is better known as the Pramaana Gulika in Vedic astrology. The dispositor of Gulika or Pramaana Gulika may prove fatal during its dasha, etc., displacing the other maraka or killer planets. Dashas and Transits • The dasha periods of the dispositor of Gulika or its navamsha lord may prove hazardous. Chart 2 (born on October 17, 1955; at 17:30 hours; at Pune) belongs to an erstwhile famous ?? actress, Smita Patil. Her lagna is Meena (Pisces) while Gulika occupies Makara (Capricorn) in the eleventh house. She died of meningitis in the Saturn-Mars period. Saturn is the rashi lord of Gulika while Mars is its navamsha lord. • Gulika in houses 1, 5 or 9 authorises the lagna lord to disburse the maraka effect during its dasha. • Trouble results during the dasha of a planet that happens to be an associate of Gulika in the rashi chart. • Severe troubles are also likely during the dasha of any planet associating with Gulika in the navamsha or the dwadashamsha charts. • Specially adverse results ensue during the dasha period, of Jupiter or Saturn when they associate with Gulika in the navamsha, or the dasha of the Sun when it associates with Gulika in the dwadashamsha, or that of the Moon associating with Gulika in the Trimamsha chart. • The Pramaana Gulika deserves the same treatment as Gulika (vide supra). • The transit of Saturn and Jupiter over the navamsha sign lord of Gulika, that of the Sun over the Dwadashamsha sign lord of Gulika, and that of the Moon over the Trimshamsha sign lord of Gulika, put the native in trouble. This is according to the Prashna Marga, which states: eUnkseq"; uoka'kikfJrx`gs e`R;qçnk;h xq#& HkkZuq}kZn'kHkkxikfJrx`gs f=a'kka'ki{ksZ 'k'khA • All trikona (1, 5, 9) rashis should be considered in application of transits. Gulika and Accidents • Gulika is extremely important as an active killer in Vedic astrology. It is used in the judgement of longevity, along with dasha and transit. • The lagna, the Moon and Gulika falling in Dwiswabha (dual) or Sthira (fixed) signs prompt multiple ailments and fatality. In Chara (movable) signs, it leads to good health and long life. • The lagna, the Moon and Gulika falling in mutual trikonas in the navamsha chart, particularly in rashis 4, 8 and 12 are fatal. Such a native is disease prone and accident prone. This is according to the following dictum of the Prashna Marga: sphnt vU;ksU;a ;fn rs f=dks.kHkxrk Hkkxk egkjksxnkA n`"Vk eksgdjk ;qrk ej.knk% dfdZf=dks.ks n`<+e~AA Gulika and Longevity For the calculation of longevity, the lagna, the Moon the Sun and Gulika are all important. A special rule for assessment of longevity involves using the cusp of the lagna and the longitudes of the Sun, the Moon and Gulika. This is as follows: Lagna ´ 5 + Gulika = Prana Sphnt Moon ´ 8 + Gulika = Deha Sphnt Gulika ´ 7 + Sun = Mrityu Sphnt When the sum of Prana and Deha is more then the Mrityu, the native is likely to live long. However, if Mirtyu is bigger than the Sun of Prana and Deha, a rudder end of life is indicated. Chart 3 (born on November 19, 1917; at 23:11 hours IST; at Allahabad) belongs to the Late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Here, the lagna is 3S27º22', the Sun is 7S04º7', the Moon 9S05º35' and Gulika 1S29º23'. The sum of Prana and Deha is 1S2º16' while Mrityu is 2S15º04'. The native met a tragic end. • Although Gulika is favoured in the third house, it turns death-inflicting when joined by or aspected by Saturn. • Gulika in the third with the Moon or receiving the full aspect of the Moon causes tuberculosis or other internal fatal disease. Daily Results of Gulika • Add the cusp of the lagna to the ‘longitude’ of Gulika. The month when the Sun transits the resultant sign leads to troubles and miseries. • The most hazardous day is when the Moon transits the sign obtained from adding the longitude of the Moon to that of Gulika. • Add the lagna, the Moon and Gulika. The resultant ‘rashi’ is to be considered fatal. The month, the day and the lagna indicated by the sum obtained above must be avoided in all major ventures. In the example (chart 3) given above, Gulika is at 1S29º23'. This indicates Kanya (Virgo) navamsha, Mesha (Aries) Dwadashamsha and Vrishchika (Scorpio) Trimshamsha for Gulika. The native was shot dead on October 31, 1984 at around 10:00 hours IST, at Delhi (Chart 4). The ascendant is Vrishchika, with Saturn in Tula along with the Sun, Jupiter and Gulika are in Dhanu (Sagittarius). The Moon is in Makara (Capricorn) while the navamsha lagna is Meena (Pisces). Adding the Moon and Gulika of the native of chart 3, we get Meena (Pisces). This is in time with the rising lagna of chart 4 as well as with its navamsha lagna. The natal Gulika was in Mesha (Aries) Dwadashamsha (Chart 3). At the time of the fatal mishap, Jupiter and Gulika were in times of Mesha (see chart 4). Gulika and Progeny • Gulika in the fifth house, particularly in rashis 3, 6, 10 and 11, leads to lack of children. In such a situation, the native is likely to have some defect in his generative organs. • Gulika may ensure successful conception when: (i) Gulika and the Moon are in the same sign; (ii) Gulika is with the fifth lord; (iii) Gulika is aspected by the fifth lord; (iv) Gulika in the other sign of the fifth lord; (v) Navamsha lords of Gulika and the Moon are related mutually. • A successful conception results when Jupiter transits the times of Gulika rashi or Gulika navamsha rashi. When Gulika is in any of the first six rashis (Mesha to Kanya), consider the transit of Jupiter from the Gulika rashi. When it is in the last six signs (Tula to Meena), consider the transit from Gulika navamsha rashi. Gulika in Special Lagnas • Gulika in houses 1 or 7 in the Pada Lagna causes grey hair, ill health and serious disease of the stomach. • When AK and Gulika occupy the Karkamsha lagna and both are aspected by the waxing Moon, there ensue losses from repeated theft. • The native dies of poisoning if Gulika in Karkamsha lagna is not aspected by any planet. It may be noted that the same aspects, as applicable to the natal chart, are to be applied to all the special lagna charts like Karakamsha, Pada, Upa-pada, Navamsha, etc. Raja-yoga from Gulika The dispositor of Gulika, a its navamsha lord, placed in a kendra or trikona, or in its own sign or in exaltation, mollifies the adverse effects of Gulika and gives yoga effects, though its lethal propensity (markatwa) would remain intact. The Phaladeepika states: xqfydHkouukFks dsUæxs ok f=dks.ks cfyfu futx`gLFks LoksPpfe=fLFkrs okA jFkxtrqjxk.kka uk;dks ekjrqy;ks efgri`Fkq;'kk% L;kUesfnuhe.MysUæ%AA That is: Let the Gulika be in a kendra, a trikona, or be strong, in its own house, or in exaltation or in a friendly house. A potent Raja-yoga results from this disposition. In chart 3 (vide supra), Gulika is in the eleventh house. Its sign lord Venus is strong, in its own navamsha. The Gulika navamsha rashi lord in time shows a good and strong Raja-yoga. In the horoscope of Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu (Chart 5, born on April 27, 1951; at 6:30 hours IST; at Hyderabad), the lagna is 0S22º16'. Gulika is 1S08º37'. Gulika rashi lord Venus and navamsha lord Jupiter, are in there own signs. Its Dwadashamsha lord Sun is exalted. A strong Raja-yoga is formed and the native becomes powerful during Jupiter dasha. During Jupiter-Venus, the Raja-yoga results would be enhanced. Ms Jai Lalitha (Chart 6) was born on February 24, 1948; 14:34 hours IST; at Chennai. Gulika is at 1S20º14' in the twelfth house. However, its rashi lord Venus is exalted in the tenth house. This exhibits a potential Raja-yoga. To Mitigate the Evil The evil of Gulika must be neutralised by prescribed remedies. Says Parashara: nhia f'koky;s HkDR;k xks?k`rsu çnki;sr~A Parashara thus recommends that one should worship lord Shiva regularly in the evening, bow down to the Sun-god and lord Vishnu in the morning, and light a holy lamp of ‘ghee’ before a Shiva temple. This would defy the evil arising out of an adverse disposition of Gulika. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" />
4. Your current Md is of Moon lord of 10th housing gulika at the time your marriage you had an AD of jup lord of 3rd and 6Th,which makes jup even more malefic in its effect , apart from it The Md of planet housing gulika is always detrimental for the native. Jupiter is in maran karka sthan in D1 and Moon in D9. So it is very easy to assess the magnitude of your loss during this period. Retro sat in 8Th just increases your difficulties ,denying you the creation element of progeny. • The Dasha periods of the dispositor of Gulika or its navamsha lord may prove hazardous Venus with a malefic anywhere in a chart indicates a loss of spouse , either by death ,divorce or separation. You are advised to be very cautious even for second marriage , the next Md Dasha of mars does not augur well for you, Surrender to lord Hanuman ji to tide you over , right now, with his grace everything may turn out to your advantage. Ketu in 4 th house signifies trouble to and from mother ,properties and vehicles , there is bound to mental unrest, mer and mars in 12 th create all around obstacles . The ongoing dasha is not good , the native may have some respite in jupiters maha dasha.however • Gulika in houses 1, 5 or 9 authorises the lagna lord to disburse the maraka effect during its dasha. • Trouble results during the dasha of a planet that happens to be an associate of Gulika in the rashi chart. Navamsa is very important for overall perdictions. Regards J.s.sandhu

18. Charturtamsha Chart<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> The charturtamsha chart (D-4) divides the 30 degree sign into 4 parts each 7.30 degrees. These 4 divisions are all in the same qualities (cardinal, fixed, mutable) starting with the sign the planet is in for the 1st 7.30 degrees. A planet in Cancer in the rashi divides the 1st 7.30 degrees will be in Cancer, the 2nd 7.30 degrees will be in Libra, the 3rd 7.30 degrees is in Capricorn, and the last 7.30 degrees of this sign is Aries. For example, if Mars is 12 degrees of Cancer it will be in Libra. The charturtamsha is used to fine tune issues of the 4th house. This chart reveals happiness, real estate, home, mother, and any fixed assets. Trimshamsha Chart The trimshamsha chart (D-6) divides the 30 degree sign into 5 parts each 6 degrees. The planets are calculated by the odd numbered signs the first 5 degrees are ruled by Mars (Aries), the next by Saturn (Aquarius) 8 degrees by Jupiter (Sagittarius), the next 7 degrees by Mercury (Virgo), and the last 5 degrees are ruled by Venus (Taurus). In even signs this reversed starting with Venus the 1st 5degrees. The trimshamamsha chart is used to fine tune the 6th house. It indicates accidents, health, obstacles and enemies. The Sun, Moon, Rahu and Ketu are not taken into account here. Saturn will indicate the biggest challenges. Saptamsha Chart The saptamsha chart (D-7) divides the 30 degree sign into 7 parts each 4.17 degrees. The divisions are divided up by if the sign is odd numbered then rulership starts with that sign. If the sign starts with an even numbered sign the rulership starts with the riling planet of the opposite sign. The saptamsha chart pin points issues with children, creativity, and intelligence. Jupiter is the planet to note in this chart. Navamsha Chart The navamsha chart (D-9) divides the 30 degree sign into 9 parts each 3.20 degrees. This is the most important divisional chart of all. Vedic astrologers automatically compare this chart to the rashi to determine the results of a person’s life. To calculate the navamsha of a planet the 1st 3.20 of a sign starts with the quality (cardinal, fixed, mutable) of the element the planet is in, then the following divisions countinue to the following signs in the zodiac regardless of quality or element. For example, if Venus is 10 degrees of Scorpio in the rashi, the first navamsha is Cancer, the 2nd navamsha is Leo, the 3rd navamsha is Virgo, the 4th navamsha is Libra, the 5th navamsha is Scorpio, the 6th navamsha is Sagittarius, the 7th navamsha is Capricorn, the 8th navamsha is Aquarius, and the 9th navamsha is Pisces. Venus falls in the 4th navamsha of Libra here. The navamsha chart is called the fruit of the tree. This means it reveals the outcome of a person’s life. If they will manifest the potential promised in the rashi chart. This is the issues of the ninth house, the house of luck, fortune and spiritual pursuits. It will reveal your future life. We seem to become our navamsha chart as we grow older. Some refer it to the spouse who is the mirror of yourself. If a planet is in the same sign in both the rashi and the navansha it is vargottoma. This means it gains strength and is a more powerful planet in the rashi. Dashamsha Chart The dashamsha chart (D-10) divides the 30 degree sign into 10 divisions each 3 degrees. The odd number signs begin with the sign being divided the signs following are in their natural order. The even numbered signs begin with that the ruler of the sign then for each next division skip 9 signs further around the zodiac. The dashamsha chart is referred to as the career chart for it focuses on the 10th house. It can reveal what type of career should be aspired to and what the social standing, status and ambitions are. It can indicate fame in this area as well. The planet that rules the 10th house in the rashi chart will be the most important planet to be analyzed in the dashamsha chart. This will give important clues as to what career an individual should pursue. The Sun in this chart is an important consideration, as well as the ruler of the ascendant of the rashi chart further noted in the dashamsha chart will give the indications for the career the individual is destined for and their successes within the career. Dwadashamsha Chart The dwadashamsha chart (D-12) divides the 30 degree sign into 12 parts each 2.30 degrees. It starts with the ruling sign and continues through the 12 signs of the zodiac, in their natural order. This chart gives the deeper essence of the 12th house. From this chart the details of the past incarnation can be assessed, and what karmas are to be worked on in this lifetime. This is the chart for the parents for we choose them to experience certain karmas before this incarnation. We never escape the imprint of our parents or early conditioning, for this develops coping and learning skills for our future. It can reveal talents or gifts brought from past lives, as well as fears or difficulties. The most important planet to be assessed here is the Sun because the Sun is our soul essence, spirit and the ego, which must be overcome. *The next divisions are less frequently used for their division are very small and accuracy is questionable and they have more to do with areas not as concrete or easily understood. Shodhashamsha Chart The shodhashamsha chart (D-16) divides the 30 degree sign into 16 parts each 1.52’30". This chart focuses on 4th house matters especially the means of transport. I use this chart to determine when someone will buy a car. It can be used to assess any fixed assest. Vimshamsha Chart The vimshamsha chart (D-20) divides the 30 degree sign into 20 parts each 1.30. This chart reveals the spirituality and progress possible in this lifetime. Charturvimshamsha or Siddhamsha Chart The Charturvimshamsha chart (D-24) is the 24th division of the sign each 1.15 parts. It is a deeper look at the dwadashamsha chart revealing a much closer look at spiritual capabilities in this lifetime and ability to overcome the karmas of the previous lives. Saptvimshamsha Chart The Saptvimshamsha chart (D-27) is the 27th division of the sign 1.6 each. In the same way the 27 nakshatras divide the zodiac this calculation divides a sign the same way. Like the nakshatras it emphasizes the personality and the strengths and weaknesses of character. Khavedamsha Chart The Khavedamsha chart (D-40) is the 40th division of a sign 0.45 each. It reveals the overall quality of life. Akshavedamsha Chart The Akshavedamsha chart (D-45) is the 45th division of a sign 0.40 each. It is like the rashi chart exacting the degrees of the planetary placements. Shastiamsha Chart The shastiamsha chart (D-60) is the 60th division of a sign 0.30 each. It is considered one of the most difficult times in a life. This depends entirely on the houses involved and how the Moon and Saturn is placed in the chart. It recurs after a cycle of 30 years. A maximum of 3 cycles may occur for a person. Divisional Charts, the Vargas Vargas are the divisions of the 30 degree segments of a sign. Each varga or divisional chart gives a more detailed look, magnifying specific areas in a person’s life. They are used to view only one aspect of life. They are very sensitive to time, if the birth time is incorrect by minutes it can give the wrong chart. I am leery to use them unless I know the birth time is correct. Of course some astrologers use them to rectify a birth time. There are 16 divisional charts. Most astrologers use only certain ones. They can fine-tune your analysis. If you what more specific information about your career you would use the career chart, (dashamsha chart) but you must not read any other issue other than career into it. The divisional chart that is by far the most important is the navamsha chart. It will reveal the deeper truth of an individual. It is the spiritual essence of a person. The real clues as to the outcome of a person’s life, is in the navamsha. The maha dasha ruler and bhukti ruler must always be reviewed in the navamsha for it will reveal more information to the outcome and indicates the inner quality of their cycles. The houses they tenet will tell the areas of life that will be the driving inner force of that period. Transits are not applicable to the divisional charts because they must be converted to their divisions before they can be made reference to. Generally they are not used in this way. Rashi The Rashi chart (D-1) is the 30 degrees of a sign divided by one. This is the whole person and contains within it everything past, present and future. The divisional charts are all derived from this one chart. For the most part the strength of the planets can be analyzed by the signs they go to in the divisional charts. Usually there will be a planet that consistently goes to strong placements in the majority of the vargas. This will indicate this planet gives good results. The vargas must always be used in relationship to the rashi, for they are derived from the rashi. Hora Chart The Hora chart (D-2) divides the 30 degrees by 15, two divisions each. This division divides the chart into Male (Sun) and Female (Moon) energies. This chart is to assess the wealth of the individual. It is a closer look at the 2nd house. If most of the planets are in the Sun’s hora (Leo) they have to work a harder for wealth. More planets in the Moon’s hora (Cancer) will not have to strive so hard for wealth. Drekkana Chart The drekkana chart (D-3) divides the 30 degree sign into 3 parts each 10 degrees. The signs remain in the same element. The first 10 degrees will be the sign ruled by the planet, the second 10 degrees will be in the sign of the same element that follows next in the zodiac or 5 signs away, the last 10 degrees will be in the last sign of the same element, or 9 signs away. For example, if Venus is 11 degrees of Scorpio in the rashi, the 1st 10 degrees will be Scorpio (water), the 2nd 10 degrees will be Pisces (water), and the last 10 degrees will be Cancer (water). Venus is in Pisces in the drekkana chart. The drekkana chart is used to fine tune issues of the 3rd house. This chart will take a closer look at siblings, courage, energy and life force. Mars is the most important planet in this chart.
20. Transits (Gochara)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> A planets influence during it’s transit is not limited to the house it transits, but includes the houses it aspects. The most important transiting planet will be the transit of the planet ruling the current maha dasha. When the transiting planet of the dasha ruler passes over, or aspects it’s own position it is likely to activate it’s promised effects. The transiting planets will carry the effects of its natal placement in a chart, the house it rules and resides in. The planet ruling the dasha is the most important point triggered by the transiting planets. The transiting planets must be looked at from the Moon’s chart. I find these transits can be more revealing. In <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />India the transits from the Moon are relied on more. Some say the transits from the rashi are in effect more from ages 0-30, and the transits from the Moon are more relative from ages 30-60, and the transits from the Sun are more operative from age 60 on. *At the initial start of a maha dasha the planet ruling that dasha should be noted as to its transiting placement. This house and position will influence the entire maha dasha.
21. Maha Dasha as the Lagna<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> Actually you can look at the chart as a whole from the Maha dasha ruler as the Ascendant (Lagna), the bhukti and antara dasha rulers are said to activate the house positions in which they fall as counted from the Maha dasha ruler.Secondly if there is a particular area of interest, the technique of the derived houses can come into play here. For example, if you want to know what the financial situation is for a maha dasha period look to the 2nd house of the rashi chart and count how many houses the maha dasha ruler is from the 2nd house. If the maha dasha ruler is in the 1st house, it is 12th from the maha dasha ruler and will indicate losses financially for that cycle. The bhukti ruler is assessed the same way. Each house can be taken into account from here. From the same example if the dasha ruler is in the 3rd house it will be 9th from the 7th giving rise and fortune for the marriage partner at this time. Maha Dasha as Ruling Two Houses When the maha dasha ruler rules two houses it can have the influence of both houses, but generally one house at a time. It has been said that the first half of a dasha takes on the quality of the house ruled by the planet that comes first in the natural zodiac (Aries through Pisces). This would not apply to dashas for the Sun, Moon, Rahu or Ketu. For example for Jupiter’s maha dasha the first 8 years (1st half of 16 year cycle) will have the qualities of the house ruled by Sagittarius and the 2nd half, last 8 years will have the effects of the house ruled by Pisces. If the ascendant is Taurus then the first 8 years will have the qualities of the 8th house (Sagittarius) and the second 8 years will have the effects of the 11th house

23. Sub Cycles<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> Bhuktis and Antara Dashas Within a maha dasha there are sub cycles called the bhuktis or antara dashas. Each maha dasha is divided into 9 sub cycles that are ruled by planets as well. Again these bhuktis have sub divisions within them called antara dashas. There are divisions that go down to at lest 7 levels. I use only the 1st 3 levels. They seem to get more and more subtle (and too complicated) beyond 3 levels for me. The maha dasha will always be the overall emphasis, the bhukti will be more immediate and the antra dasha will be more personal. An analogy would be that the maha dasha is the country you live in, the state is the bhukti, and the city you reside in is the antara dasha. The time determined for a bhukti depends on the length of time allotted to the planets ruling these periods. The calculation is simple; mutiply the number of years aloted to the planet of the maha dasha ruler to the nuber of years allotted to the planet ruling the bhukti and divide the result by 10, the remainder is multiplied by 3. The 2 main periods result will be the number of months allotted to the sub cycle, and the remainder will be the number of days added to the number of months to give the length of the sub cycle. For example, if the maha dasha is Saturn and the bhukti is Mars, Saturn’s length is 19 years and Mars is 7. Multiply 19 by 7=133, then divide by 10 =13.3, take the remainder 3 and multiply by 3= 9. The bhukti of Mars in Saturn’s cycle is 13 months and 9 days or 1 year, 1 month, and 9 days long. When a maha dasha begins the bhukti will always start out the same as the maha dasha ruler. The sub, sub cycles are further divided down in the same exact manner, to find the smaller, shorter cycles within cycles. The bhukti and antara dashas will start out with the same planet ruler as the maha dasha ruler, and continue down in the same order or pattern as the maha dasha changing quicker. Outline 1. Benefics-the planet ruling a dasha is well placed if it is in an Angle (Kendra) or Trinal house 2. The first three most important rules are: 1) The houses the ruler rules 2) the house the ruler is in 3) The general nature of the planet, benefic or malefic. Then all the other details must be analyzed as discussed before. The next step is to compare the maha dasha ruler to the bhukti ruler, count the number of houses each ruler is from one another. Start by counting the house the maha dasha is in as one, count to the house containing the bhukti ruler. Then start with the bhukti ruler and count back around (always in forward direction) to the maha dash ruler. This will give you the spacial relationship. For example, if the maha dasha is Jupiter in the 5th house and the bhukti ruler is the Moon in the 3rd house, count from Jupiter in the 5th to the Moon in the 3rd. The Moon is 11 houses from Jupiter, and Jupiter is 3 houses back to the Moon. Your knowledge of what the houses mean are applied here, and the meanings of houses 3 and 11 are applied to the Jupiter maha dasha with the Moon bhukti. The Jupiter/Moon period will be a time of happiness with friends, groups (11th), possibly with the arts or competive sporting events (3rd). The Bhukti’s Ruler’s placement and relationship to the Dasha ruler tells what the experience will be. The spatial relationships are referred to also: 1\7: about relationships\connection with other people 2\12: gains\losses 3\11: friendly, competitive, works well 4\10: action, power, purpose, home verses career 5\9: benefic, auspicious, works well together, 6\8: difficult, losses, enemies Continued-
24. The House the Dasha Ruler owns<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> By far the most important factor in determining what effects a dasha will have will depend on the house or houses it rules. The period will produce the characteristics of both houses giving a mixed result. If it rules a triconal house it will bring the blessings and good luck of this house, but if it rules a dusthana house as well it will have the experience of both. Saturn for Gemini ascendants owns the 9th house (triconal) and the 8th house (dushtana). There will experiences of both houses good and bad. Some say the result will be more of the house that is ruled by the moolatriconal sign. I find it is a little of both. As for Taurus ascendants Saturn rules the 9th (triconal) and the 10th (kendra), the results will be very empowering for luck and career, but since it is still Saturn it will not be completely joyous. Basically the planetary dashas will carry with them the meanings of the houses and affairs they rule. There is no escaping this fact, but as to when the uplifting fortunous time of the triconal house occurs and the difficult time of the dushtana occurs depends on the sub cycles.
