6. Dear Readers, USR ji & Anusha ji, 1) The site referred by me gives details of lunar as well as solar eclipses. URL extracted from http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse.html is given below which gives astronomical details of solar eclipse on 22.7.2009. http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/TSE2009/TSE2009fig/TSE2009-fig01.pdf In fact the above site gives lot of astronomical details. I do not understand fully. It requires assistance from some astronomer. 2) Penumbral Lunar eclipse on 7.8.2009 (in India & on 6.8.2009 in some parts of the world) shall start at 04.34 IST & shall end at 07.44 IST Following site gives details of the start & end of Lunar eclipse (penumbral) on 7.8.2009. http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEplot/LEplot2001/LE2009Aug06N.pdf 3) Now clarification of the reply given on start & ending time of eclipse; as interpreted by Sh USR Ji : Eclipse is a celestial phenomenon. Its starting & ending time in a particular locality is different from those in the world. Panchangs also give start & ending moments of the eclipse in different cities, as well as for the world. BUT, there is a specific duration during which the eclipse is effective on the earth (astrologically); in respect of umbra & penumbra durations. 4) Now the question arises whether one should consider the eclipse duration for ones locality or celestial duration of the eclipse. In my opinion the whole duration during for which an eclipse in current celestially, should be considered as the period of eclipse for rituals as well as for astrological purposes – irrespective of the fact that it is visible for a shorter duration in the specific locality of an individual or whether it is not visible in ones locality. This opinion is corroborated by the fact that even when an eclipse is not visible in India, the habitants in India do fast & perform the required rituals. And also prohibit the usage of the said sullied constellation in good elections. Therefore visibility of an eclipse in a locality is for astronomical reference & not for astrological purpose. Please note that only entering in umbra should be considered & not penumbra – my opinion. Therefore the fact is that solar eclipse be considered as starting from 05.28 IST & ending at 10.42 IST on 22.7.2009.; for ritual as well astrological applications. As per dictums of electional astrology, constellation(s) of the Moon current during the eclipse period are prohibited in good elections. There is no reference whether the said eclipse is visible in the locality of the aspirant or not. This is because the said constellation gets sullied, and becomes unfit for good elections. Duration for which it is unfit for good elections depends upon the intensity of the eclipse. 5) The opinion expressed by Sh USR ji that “During the eclipse Chandra loses its power so all the individuals lose their dasa effects during the period.” It is indeed frightening for those having Moon Dasha or Anter Dasha. In my experience those birth anniversary falling during the eclipse period suffer heavily is some aspect of their life. BUT they do NOT lose “EVERY THING” in the current year. … V K Shridhar
7. Dear readers Correction is required in respect of ending moment of solar eclipse on 22.7.2009 : it is 10.42 IST –source Lahiri Ephemeris. For authenticated details about eclipses readers may log on to http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse.html To find out the constellations afflicted during an eclipse; please find out the constellation of the Moon during the currency of eclipse. In case two constellations are involved then the both are sullied. From the intensity of eclipse, we arrive at the duration for which the said constellation is prohibited for good elections ( Muhurt). The duration for which the Moon is in umbra, the Moon is considered in eclipse for astrological purposes. For the duration the Moon is in penumbra; before & after the Moon is in umbra; the Moon is not said to be under eclipse. In my opinion -- since the Moon is not having her full rays /illuminated, aspirants may avoid the whole time duration; when the Moon is in umbra as well as in penumbra; in election of auspicious life activities of immense importance. … V K Shridhar

10. To the best of my knowledge there is no reference of triple eclipses in our Muhurt (electional) astrology. However exponents have directed that no auspicious activity should be initiated in- between the period covered by two eclipses. Therefore, the period between July 9, 2009 to August 22, 2009, no auspicious / pious life activity must be initiated. Vedic Muhurt Vidya prohibits to advise about initiation of malefic / inauspicious life activities. Certainly those interested in initiating beneficial life activities must refrain the said period. Further the two Lunar eclipses are neither partial or total. They are not in umbra. They are in penumbra. The latter types of eclipses are least or no astrological significance. .. V K Shridhar ……….. 12. As per the dictums of Swar Sidhanta; predictions for the following six months; are based on the Swar running at the time of the Sun-rise on the day following the Sun changes his declinations from south to north & vice versa. That means the start of Summer & Winter solstices. This corresponds to the start of Uttrayana & Dakshinayana as per tropical system. Some opine that the rule can also be applied to start of Uttrayana & Dakshinayana as per Nirayana or Sidereal system. Also some opine that said dictum is also applicable at the start of lunar month also. As per the dictums, if left Swar is running at the said time then, the person is assured of good health, prosperity, peace of mind, worldly gains and the like for the next six months during. Running of left Swar means that inhalation & exhalation is done from the left nostril. Direction of the Sun’s declination shall change from north to south at precisely at 11.16 IST on June, 21, 2009. Therefore those desire to reap benefit from the said dictum, may run their left Swar (Ida Swar ) at the time of local Sunrise on June 22, 2009. They may get up early in the morning before the Sunrise, take bath, sit facing east on an insulated Aasan. They should start breathing through their left nostril. If their right nostril is working they may change it to left as described below. The aspirants can also perform Pooja at that time. Mode to change the Swar One shall find that at a time breathing is from either left nostril (Ida Swar) or right nostril (Pingala Swar) or from both the nostrils (Sushmana Swar). For a short duration both left & right Swars are working during shifting of the Swar from left to right or vice versa. Shushmana flows for a short duration & only spiritual functions are recommended during its currency. Left or right Swar flow alternatively for 60 to 90 minutes duration. One can change the Swar at his will, & below are some of the methods for changing it: 1) Close the running nostril with finger or with a cotton piece, & breathe through the other nostril for about 5 to 10 minutes. The other inactive desired nostril shall become active. Check whether the desired nostril is active by placing back of the hand below the nostril. Now while exhaling through nose, the air is felt flowing out from that running nostril, & from the other nostril no air flows. 2) Inhale through the active (running ) nostril & exhale through the inactive nostril. After doing this exercise for about 2 to 3 minutes the desired nostril (earlier inactive) shall become active. 3) Lie down sideways on the side of active nostril by keeping shoulder of the corresponding side on down side. After some time the other nostril shall be active. For example if right nostril is running & one wants to activate left nostril then, lie down sideways by keeping right shoulder on the bed side. After some time left Swar shall start running. The purpose of this thread is the let the highly guarded secret of Swar Sidhanta be known to those aspirants who intend to benefit themselves for better life, as per the knowledge blessed by our sages & exponents. …. 14. Dear Sandhu ji, Thanks, There is a wrong notion that gold must be purchased on Akshay Tritiya, to bring good luck. Such notions & incorrect informations are spreaded for some peronal gains. It is well known that the said Tithi is auspicious only for initiating auspicious & spiritual activities. 15. AKSHAY TRITIYA – DO NOT FOLLOW BLINDLY <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> Indeed as per dictums of Vedic / Hindu electional (Muhurt) astrology, Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most effective election for initiating auspicious deeds. However, it is painful that masses are misguided as they do not have access to the treatises & original source. I has written a blog in google blog, on the subject on May 7, 2008 (copy produced here). Now Akshya Tritiya is falling on 27th April, 2009 from 03.52 IST, and ends at 01.07 IST on 28th April, 2009. Krittika Nakshatra ends at 09.07 IST, and thereafter Rohini starts. Rohini ends at 07.08 IST on 28th April, 2009. Krittika and Monday when concurrent, cause malefic Yoga due to birth constellation of Moon which rules Monday – as per Sage Brihaspati. Therefore, up to 09.07 IST is not auspicious. Combination of Rohini Nakshatra & Monday forms “Sarva Siddha Yoga “ and “Amrit Yoga”- thus the said Akshaya Tritiya on 27th April becomes very auspicious / beneficial. Since the said Tithi is primarily beneficial for initiating auspicious/religious activities rather than for worldly activities; but those who intent to use this Tithi for worldly purposes may use Abhijit Muhurt of the day. For calculating Abhijit Muhurt, please log on to para 7.2 of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electional_astrology Thus most effective part of the Akshaya Tritiya covers 09.07 IST ( 03.37 GMT or the local sunrise time – which ever is latter) on 27th April, 2009 , and ends at 01.08 IST on 28th April, 2009 (19.38 GMT on 27th April, 2009). Starting & ending times of Tithis & Nakshatras is a celestial phenomenon. As per the dictums on electional astrology, the forthcoming Akshaya Tritiya is not beneficial for those having Janma Nakshatra as Poorva Bhadra, Vishakha or Punarvasu; as the Rohini Nakshatra falls on their Nidhan Tara. Sage Vasist has advised that any activity initiated on Nidhan Tara does not fructify. Further aspirants may also select auspicious & beneficial Hora on Monday suitable for the activity to be undertaken, for their specific benefit. Further Sukshama Muhurt is fundamentally essential as all the duration during currency of any beneficial / auspicious period (here in the said Tithi) can not be beneficial to all the aspirants. There are a number of cautions in selection a good or better Muhurt; for which advice of an expert astrologer in Muhurt should be sought individually. ================================================== Copy of the blog written on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 AKSHAY TRITIYA – use your prudence in Muhurtas (elections astrology) AKSHAY TRITIYA – USE YOUR PRUDENCE IN MUHURTAS (electional astrology) Akshay Tritiya is held as one of the most auspicious Tithi in Hindu calendar and is covered under Sade Teen Muhurtas, which is held by all the exponents as extremely auspicious period in Muhurt (electional) astrology. “Akshay” literally means which can not be destroyed. But the question is whether all the living-beings should follow this period for their auspicious Muhurta and for initiation of “all” the life activities. The answer certainly is “NO”. It is not feasible to throw full light on the Hindu system of electional astrology in an article of this nature but effort is made to enlighten professional astrologer not to misguide the masses. Ashay Tritiya is the third lunar day (Tithi) of bright half (Shukla Paksha) of Vaishakha lunar month. It was the Tithi prevailing at the start of Treta Yuga & is called as Yugadi Tithi. Its Devta is Lord Vishnu, and it coincides with Parshuram Jyanti. Punya Karma such as Japa, Tapa, Dana, Snaana, Havan, Hooma performed in this Tithi is extremely meritorious. During currency of Yugadi and Manvadi Tithis prohibited activities are, Upnayana, marriage, ending of fast, house construction & entering thereof, travailing and plantation. Thus following dictums of Hindu electional astrology the said activities should be prohibited on Akshya Tritiya. The said Tithi is beneficial for Punya Karmas and not for the worldly activities. Selection of an auspicious Tithis for initiating an activity in the first fundamental of Hindu electional astrology. It has to be ensured that the Tithi is not sullied or become inauspicious by virtue of presence of other adverse electional element. Further there can not be said with certainty that a particular time is auspicious for all the human beings for all types of life activities. Auspiciousness of a Tithi is decided based on Janma Rashi and name of the doer, transits of planets , Sartvatobhadra Chakra, its favourable / unfavourable durations, its sub-divisions (Kshana Tithi), Muhurt Yoga formed with prevailing week-day & constellation, maleficenece due to Mass –Shunya Tithi, Tithi Shunya Nakshatra, Tithi-Shunya Lagna, Kshaya Tithi, Vridhi-Tithi, Pradosha, its Vish-Ghati & Amrit Ghatis, Ghaata Tithis, malefic Tithis for certain Rashis. etc. – to name some of the elements in its selection. Better the work is left to specialists in the field. Now referring to the Akshay Tritiya falling on 7th May, 2008 in light of the some of the above elements we may examine how it is limited to its usefulness. The said Tithis starts at 10.08 IST (04.38 GMT) and ends at 06.34 IST (01.04 GMT). It coincides with currency of Krittika Nakshatra up to 20.01 IST (14.31 GMT) on 7th May, 2008 and there after Rohini Nakshatra prevails up to 17.34 IST (12.04 GMT) on 8th May, 2008. Currency of the Tithi and Nakkshatra are universal phenomenon. However weekday is Wednesday in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />India which is based on local sun-rise. ‘Atiganda Yoga’- a malefic Yoga – prevails up to 01.00 IST on 8th May, 2008. Incidentally the Tithi is not Kshaya in India, but it is Kshaya in the geographical regions where the local sunrise is between 01.04 GMT to 04.38 GMT. In those regions the weekday shall be sullied due to “Tithi Kshay”. Its portion (9th Ghati to 12th Ghati – considering day length as 60 Ghatis) is Vish Ghati. This period starts from 12.51 IST (07.31 GMT) to 14.12 IST (08.42 GMT) - which is considered as highly poisonous- and should be prohibited. in good elections. The Tithi coincides with Wednesday, which forms “Mrityu Yoga”- deadly Yoga- prohibited for any good election. According to Sage Brihaspati concurrence of Wednesday and 3rd Tithi forms “Dagdha Yoga”- another deadly Yoga. During 3rd Tithi: Leo and Capricorn ascendants are “Tithi –Shunya Lagnas” ; and also Gemini & Virgo ascendants , being malefic ascendants for Jaya Tithis – therefore the periods coinciding with these ascendants should be avoided- it is a local phenomenon. should be calculated. Further 3rd Tithis is held as inauspicious for peoples having Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius as Janma Rashis; some opine that it is malefic for Gemini as Janma Rashi. However the Tithis coincides with Rohini Nakshatra up to 20.01 IST – which forms “ “Amrit Siddha Yoga’ or “Prashata Yoga”; and thereafter with Mrigshira Nakshatra it forms “Sarvartha Sidhha Yoga”. Both the Yogas are held as highly auspicious Muhurt Yogas. It also forms auspicious “Ravi Yoga” from 20.01 IST on 7th May, 2008 to 17.34 IST on 8th May, 2008- another powerful electional Yoga. Further for precise auspicious moments in the Tithi, one has to calculate Kshana Tithi (sub-division of Tithi) period. From the above it shall be observed by the learned readers that they should not blindly use the Akshay Tritiya falling on 7th May, 2008 for beneficial elections (Muhurtas) especially worldly activities, rather they should follow cautiously and in consultations with astrologers having specialization in Hindu Electional astrology. The said Tithi is not fully auspicious for initiation of all the activities. ================================================ V K Shridhar is author of “Hindu Electional Astrology”- the largest compendium on Vedic / Hindu system of Muhurt (election) astrology. Readers may log on to http://www.besttime-election.com

18. A thread was initiated here in June,2008 in this forum that time of taking oath by the new US president on 20th January, 2009 was inauspicious. The thread is reproduced below.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> It was especially pointed out that retrograde & combust Mercury certainly indicates adverse effects. Now it is evident from the fumble in the oath ceremony itself. He had to take the oath afresh Now some western astrologers are debating under various blogs & articles that the second oath may be taken as valid for future forecasting. Does that mean that if a marriage once solemnized in inauspicious time, can be rectified by marrying once again by the same couple at an auspicious time? War once started under an elected time (adverse) , may be stopped & started again under another auspicious time? Readers must recall that if there has been a fumble in taking oath, the person has not been able to complete the term. Readers may also be well aware that Electional astrology ( Muhurt) is recently added in western system of astrology where as it was available since Vedic era in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />India. “Vasist Samhita”, written by Sage Vasist is the first such treatise known to us. Exact time of oath taking and the astro details of the oath taker are not known, therefore divisional charts and beneficence of the for the individual are not discussed. However it is essential that the election time is universally auspicious with co-occurrence of Muhurt Yogas and Panchaga Shuddhi; in addition to beneficial time in respect of transits of planets & Dasha, to the individual taking oath. The day is Tuesday – considered malefic for taking oath / coronation; and certainly before mid-day.10th Tithi is beneficial being Poorna, but the Moon is waning, and thus weak. Retrograde & combust Mercury may cause severe adverse effects on communication systems, army, Government employees and servants. From 12 hrs 0 min to 12 hrs 38 min, Abhijin / Abhijit Muhurt prevails, which has immense power to reduce / annihilate adverse effects – as per Vedic astrology. Further Mars as lord of the ascendant in 9th house is another beneficial aspect in the election chart. But in general the said time is not observed as auspicious for taking oath by the head of state of the most powerful country. The purpose of this article is to trigger a discussion among the Muhurt astrologers (both from east & west) to examine the suitability of the oath time and possibility of recommending another suitable time, after thorough debate, getting benefits Vedic electional astrology which has withstood test of time for the last 5 millenniums. Muhurt (electional) astrology was originated in Vedic era, and is considered as the most useful branch of Hindu astrology. Of late westren astrologers have also started following it. 19. Bhaskar, The boy appears to be very very sensual (Mars & Venus togather within a degree) & having other relations in the past. Current losses are due to his Moon Maha Dasha & Saturn Antra ( 12th & 6th house significators)- starting from 14.8.2008. Generally this Dasha is not good. Health & wealth losses are indicated to the boy. Matching is of 17 Gunas. For that matter boy is also Mangalik when seen frm position of Venus. To verify further intimate when the relations had started, 9 years back. However you should be careful. ....V K Shridhar
20. WebYogi Ji & Anusha ji, Regarding matching of same birth star following is opined by the exponents: a) Same star but different Janma Rashi is acceptable. b) Same star & same Rashi - NOT acceptable. c) Same star but 1 & 4 pair of Pada, or 2 & 3 pair of Padas - also not acceptable. d) Same Rashi but different stars is acceptable - in some cases even when Nadi Doshas is prevailing. e) Same star & same Pada, NOT accetptable. Thus same star & Rashi shall give 28 Gunas in matching by Ashtakoot mode, but the above care must be taken. However, there are some exceptions advised by some writers, but again full care must be taken to accept the latter views. ... V K Shridhar
21. Anusha ji, It shall take long time to update my website. Please bear with us. .... V K Shridhar
22. Anusha ji, The match is NOT recommended. Both the boy & the girl have same sign, star & Pada. No exponent recommend this match for marriage. Rather this must be shunned. ... V K Shridhar
23. Dear Readers, As many books (of modern writers) you shall study, you shall find that Mangal Dosha having different-different definitions & antidotes.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:" /> It is more or less exploitation of public. Consider the following astrological aspects: a) Why only Mars is to be considered a malefic planet in matrimonial life, as main causer of disharmony ? Karak of marriage is either Venus or Jupiter – a concept accepted by all. b) If Mars can burn so called “matrimonial cord” then, why not Saturn can separate / break it. And so the effect of Rahu, or planet having effect of separation ? c) Why Mars is always considered as malefic when it is functional benefic for some of the ascendants. Why rules laid down by Sage Prashar in “Laghu Prashari” are not uniformly followed in this case. d) Why some believe that 1st house to be ignored in Magal Dosha, while others strongly agree that Mangal Dosha is strong when Mars in is 1st House /sign. In North India Mars in 1st house causes Mangal Dosha, but is <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />South India it does not. e) Some opine that Mangal Dosha should be checked from ascendant, while some check it from Moon & some believe that its effect is the strongest when Mars is placed similarly from Venus. Thus practically all natives shall have Mangal Dosha. f) Some opine that effect of placement of Saturn & Rahu in the said houses / signs also contribute to the effects similar to the Mangal Dosha. g) Why sign chart is to be seen for this dosha & not the house chart. Some examine Mangal Dosha from Navamsha chart also. h) There is no uniformity in logic of cancellation / antidotes of Mangal Dosha. Some say that weak or combust or debilitated Mars does not contribute to the Mangal Dosha. While some say that strong / exalted / Yoga Karak Mars does not cause Mangal Dosha. In view of the above in my opinion, astrologers should check general strength of the horoscopes, similar placement of Mars, nature of Mars ( whether functional malefic / benefic), aspect / conjunction of benefics with Mars, whether Mars is contributing ill effects. So far I have not read about Mangal Dosha in the old treatises on Muhurt or predictive Vedic astrology. I would like that readers may cull out references from treatises by exponents & bring it to the knowledge of the public. … V K Shridhar - Log on to http://www.besttime-election.com “Hindu Electional Astrology” – the largest & the best seller compendium on Vedic / Indian electional (MUHURT) astrology. “Swar Shaastra” – Phonetical astrology dealt first time in roman script for its application in Muhurt (electional astrology). Log on for free down load of 52 pages from the book on “Horoscope Matching”
24. In my opinion 5th house & 8th house are the main considerations for study of astrology & delineations. 5th house indicates prudence, wisdom and ability to analyse. 8th house is relates to searching & culling out issues / things from depth / darkness/ hidden matters. Certainly a persons is involved in study of astrology & the relatedf subjects when periods/ sub-periods related to these two houses are in operation. Please check and verify it yourself. ...
