Is A Physically Present Spiritual Master Required?
Guruvani replied to krsna's topic in Spiritual Discussions
sometimes I have to put on my sunglasses to read some of these posts by our dearest member Krsna. At least I wish he would use the brown color instead of that bright red. Just see how much nicer is the brown color! -
I seems like you are very nice person and a good candidate for devotional service. What I wish for you though is that someday you can get into a strict program of sadhana. I was fortunate that I had about 8 good years of strict sadhana in ISKCON and SCSMandira. If not for that, I don't think I would be hanging on to Krishna consciousness at this stage of my life. What is really funny though is that even as fallen and degraded as I am, I still get a big charge out of chanting some rounds on my beads. It is the only magic I have found in Krishna consciousness. This chanting of the Maha-mantra is for real. It is very sublime. Lately, I have been chanting more and something very sweet and sublime is touching my soul and my consciousness. I went through some periods of very strict sadhana and chanting 50 rounds a day. It must have had some long term effects, otherwise I can't explain why this chanting Hare Krishna is so potent and sweet like ambrosia to a thirsty and tortured soul. Still, I have plenty of distractions and even though chanting Hare Krishna is very blissful and pleasing, I don't chant as much as I should. You probably had some connection in your past life and you are probably drawing on that too. But, it can't be emphasized enough how important it is to do some austerities and practice some serious sadhana that will give potency to the chanting of the Holy Name. If devotees never pratice at least some period of strict sadhana in their life it will be very difficult to taste the honey of Krishna consciousness and they will be bottle-lickers and eventually lose faith and become offensive. My years of sadhana are my only asset. Please don't deny yourself this vital aspect of Krishna consciousness.

just remember folks that Srila Prabhupada didn't invent the theory that the Moon is further than than the Sun. All the acharyas and Vaishnavas of bygone ages accepted the Bhagavatam version that the Moon is further than the Sun. That includes Vishvanatha Cakratvarti, Madhvacharya etc. etc. So, there is definitly something strange that we have yet to grasp. But, you people need to quit dumping on Srila Prabhupada for sticking to his guns and giving the Bhagavat version as it is. If some other guru are acharya disagree with that idea, then he is disagreeing with Madhvacarya and many great Vaishnava acharyas. So, give Prabhpada a break for being a chaste servant of the Bhagavat.

But, I have to admit those devotees in the pics sure look like nice devotees and I am sure they are all very sincere. I don't like to include all the nice rank and file devotees in the same group as the rotten bureaucrats who have spoiled ISKCON with their pathetic ecclesiastical committee politics. Those devotee in the pics sure like nice.

Mike Werner hasn't eaten since 2001! Book:Life From Light
Guruvani replied to krsna's topic in World Review
Well, the guy is having milk with his coffee and an espresso and fruit juice two or three times a day. I hardly call that living on light. Coffee has always left me wishing I never drank a cup after the caffeine wears off and you are left worse off that if you never had any caffeine. I do some serious herbals for my breakfast drink. My morning liquid is caffeine free tea: Eleuthero, Peppermint, Cinnamon, Ginger, Chamomile, Lemon Grass, Licorice, Catnip, Tilia Flower and some natural flavors with a bag of Sarsaparilla mixed in. With this tea I take some herbal supplement in tablet form that have: KOREAN RED PANAX GINSENG ROOT;YERBA MATE EXTRACT;SIBERIAN GINSENG ROOT;CHINESE RED PANAX ROOT GINSENG ROOT;BRAZILIAN GINSEG ROOT;WILD INDIAN GINSENG ROOT;GINKGO BILOBA LEAF;FOTI ROOT;GOLDENSEAL ROOT;GOTU KOLA LEAF;GREEN TEA;ECHINACHEA WHOLE PLANT Then I take a good multi-vitamin with some fruit juice. -
you can order some tapes and play along till you get it figured out.

how can hormones/lust/need for affection become so strong?
Guruvani replied to a topic in Spiritual Discussions
Some people mature later than others. I was like that. I was in my late 20's before the urges hit me too. But, late bloomers are also late to to grow out of it. I am 53 now and still dealing with it. So, maybe you should think about getting married and having a family. If you can find a nice devotee husband, then there is nothing wrong with getting married and having a couple kids. -
wrap the two strings around each index finger and click them together in a 123 beat allowing them to sizzle on the last beat. these are the occasions when associating with more experienced devotees at the temple can be very usefull. there is a lot to be learned by associating with devotees.

Need a Guru for KY, please share your experience
Guruvani replied to ams009's topic in Spiritual Discussions
maybe you could look in the Phone Book for a KY teacher? There aren't that many people from London on this forum. if you do a google search for "Kundalini Yoga London" you should get some results. -
probably if you do a google search on these different sects you can find out something about their doctrines. India has hundreds of cults and sects even in "Hinduism". Beliefs vary from sect to sect and cult to cult. Most all Hindus know of the trinity gods of Vishnu, Siva and Brahma. But, whether or not they consider them as the "trinity" as we are discussing here varies from sect to sect. It's hard to give a patent answer to your question, as there are hundreds of sects in Hinduism. Within each sect there are still different opinions, so really it is not possible to give a yes or no answer to your question.

Is Acharya Authority Equal to Shastra Or Tradition?
Guruvani posted a topic in Spiritual Discussions
In Sri Krishna Samhita, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur writes: ch. 1. text 34. So, is it that the acharya is at least equal to scriptural authority? Is scripture above the acharya, or parallel to the acharya? If the acharya gives something that is not found is shastra, does that make it bogus? Does the acharya have the authority to say anything that is not found in shastra? What is Bhaktivinode saying in this verse? -
I am not sure what schools you refer too. But, this trinity is accepted by any school of Vaishnava that accepts the authority of the Puranas and especially the Bhagavat Purana which is the principle authority on which the Gaudiya Vaishnavas establish their philosophical doctrine.

Bhaktivinode was also Christian at one time in his life too. Bhaktivinode followed Brahmoism at one time in his life too. Srila Prabhupada never deviated an inch from the Lotus Feet of Krishna from the day he was born. Srila Prabhupada was no less that Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur or Srila Saraswati Goswami. Srila Prabhupada was born a devotee and was a pure devotee his whole life. He was never a meat-eater or a Christian or a hater of Vaishnavism and the Bhagavat as Srila Bhaktivinode was. So, I certainly never consider Srila Prabhupada as any less than Bhaktivinode Thakur. Bhaktivinode's whole life is a story of growth, change and improvement. Srila Prabhupada was a pure devotee since he was in the womb. -

But my spiritual master did not include Vipina Bihari in the disciplic succession, so your little opinion doesn't matter. Srila Prabhupada had good reason to exclude Vipina Bihari Goswami, but it appears that you and the camp you come from don't see the wisdom in that and think you know better than the world acharya who took Krishna consciousness all over the world while the bell ringers stayed in India criticising Srila Prabhupada for not being their patsy. Srila Prabhupada cut out that siddha pranali cult and followed a pure current that didn't have sahajiyas in the parampara. -

Actually, Muralidhar is accusing Srila Prabhupada of deceit because he doesn't include Vipina Bihari Goswami in the parampara of ISKCON. So, little Muralidhar is now big and bad enough to start criticising Srila Prabhupada as if little Muralidhar has a clue about what he is talking about. Well, now we see the kind of poison and venom that little Muralidhar is capable of. It must be some venom he is learning at the now defunct Sri Caitanya Saraswata Matha with it's renegade acharya system that has blatantly defied Sridhar Maharaja's order that Govinda Maharaja operate as a ritvik successor. As Govinda Maharaja has admitted that he came from a family of sahajiyas, he obviously found it impossible to follow the orders of Sridhar Maharaja. There are no sahajiyas in Srila Prabhupada's parampara, but apparently there are some branches of Gaudiya Math that include sahajiyas in the parampara. -

CC Adi 1 summary, did you hear that kiddies? any deviation from the parampara concept that Srila Prabhupada gave above (Bhaktivinode's guru was Jagannatha das babaji) will bewilder the readers understanding of the MYSTERY of Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita. No mention of Vipina Bihari Goswami in the disciplic succession according to Srila Prabhupada. duh....... Vipina Bihari Goswami gets NO recognition in the parampara according to Srila Prabhupada. so much for siddha pranali and the diksha guru parampara... -

Srila Prabhupada To become guru is to think oneself as first class devotee. Srila Prabhupada advises that it is best if one does not accept any disciples. There are many ISKCON devotees who now think they are "first class devotee". So much for humility. That has been tossed out the door and the stampede to become guru is looking like the running of the bulls in Pamplona Spain. Best bet is to just get out of the way. Apparently, there are a bunch of ISKCON devotees who have decided not to do what is best, but have opted to do what is not best and initiate disciples.
