Guest guest Report post Posted June 21, 2005 Some time around '77-'79 the bass player of Bad Brains was using the term mosh. the term pogoing was used in '75 in at least one club in L.A. The term slamdancing was used in Nor Cal in the late 70s. I think over here slamming and skanking are not the same thing. Slamming is what is says - slamming into each other, with pinballing being similar, but I thought skanking was dancing in a similar style to that in the Madness videos. My daughter had several years fairly recetly as a ska etc. fan, and the dancing they did was skanking. I feel almost totally certain she wouldn't slam dance cos she's not very big, and is not the type. > > BB > Jo > - > fraggle > > Tuesday, June 21, 2005 6:06 PM > Re: Re: North Wales holiday > > > pogoing started in the UK circa 76 > slamming is accredited to the Socal scene circa 79-80(and all its other names...skankin, etc) > the appelation of moshing is a east coast term....NYC especially....about 80-81 > > > > peter hurd > Jun 21, 2005 10:00 AM > > Re: Re: North Wales holiday > > > I always thought that it came out of the London punk scene circa 75/76?....come on Fraggle have your two penneth worth? > > The Valley Vegan........ > > Lynda <lurine@s...> wrote: > Started with pogoing in the early 70s and then became moshing.
