North Wales holiday

We've just got back from North Wales. We had a lovely time, although the weather could have been better.

On the journey we stopped at the Welcome Break services on the motorway - nothing vegan, well only the garden salad which was lettuce, tomato and a few strips of pepper. There was no soya milk available for the drinks, although other services we have visited do decaffeinated soya lattes.

We went self-catering which was just as well. We found a good restaurant in Bangor, The Java, which although not vegetarian had half the menu vegetarian, and three vegan meals. So we did manage to eat out once. They did not have soya milk though.

We went to Holyhead, to visit a vegan cafe called The Harvest Moon - but alas it was no longer a cafe - although the owner was kind enough to offer us tea and biscuits.

While looking at menus in windows we came across quite a few cafes/restaurants that didn't even have vegetarian options - so no hope of a meal for vegans.

At least the next weekend we have away is in Derby, so we can call in at V1 in Nottingham for a meal. There is also a chap who has a veggie/vegan cafe in Matlock - so we'll have to see if that is a possibility.

Hi Fraggle

It's the motorway services, where you can get petrol, go to the loo, and eat (allegedly) and drink.

We did have a good time. We revisited places that we have been before -

Snowdon, Fairy Glen, Lake Vyrynwy (not sure of the spelling), and loads of

other pretty places, out in the wilds.

I don't think they are the same. Over here a gas (petrol) station is a small area that sells a few food items, newspapers, engine oil etc. as well as petrol.

The motorway services are whole complexes placed every 20 to 40 miles along the motorways. There is a petrol station, and then a large complex with loos, shops for items you might want on your journey, and sweets etc. There are several food outlets -usually one of either the Burger King, Little Chef etc., and sandwich bars, a coffee shops. There's also usually a small arcade area, telephones, kiddies play area. Some of them also have Travelodges beside them - like motels.

Hi Jo,

Glad you enjoyed Gods own country, I would recommend West Wales next, lovely coast line around St. Davids ( a vegan saint!).

Welcome Break is a bit of a contradiction in my experiance, just an excuse to rip people off who need a break from driving and some grub.

HI Peter (VV)

We did enjoy your beautiful country thanks. We did quite a bit of walking and 'clambering' over rocks and rocky streams etc. and had lots of fresh air.

Many years ago we camped around Wales, and did pop over to Aberystwyth (needed a launderette) and to Devils Bridge area, which was very pretty.

Hi Peter and Peter,

Don't worry, we're not easily upset. It's not like we would start a

war or anything over the littlest of things.

I mean, we do have more brains than that. We are a civilized sort

you know. We do..

Hi Peter

I have two responses to this:

1) It could be the " death " of the carnivore eating habits
