Vegans don't eat/use anything from animals. Vegetarians don't eat

anything resulting from the slaughter of an animal.

Vegetarians use leather.

Cows in India are raised and killed specifically for their leather, not

their milk or meat.

There are leather cows and then there are dairy and meat cows. The

leather cows don't need to be overweight and live a very brutal

existence.

It's pretty hard to be completely vegan in today's society. For me, I

do the best I can with what I have. For instance, my husband and I

went to DisneyWorld in Oct. while we were in FL. One of the parks

didn't have ANYTHING vegan where we were so if I wanted to eat it was

a cheese pizza for me. As much as I didn't want to eat it, I'd rather

eat vegetarian than not eat at all. Now I know that I really need to

prepare and plan when we go to places like this.

I think many people don't realize what being vegan entails. No yogurt

(unless soy), jello, m & m's, skittles, common hand soaps/cleaners,

certain breads (whey), etc. You really get an education about what's

in your food when you become vegan.

that!!! (Me, I have no prob cuz we both eat the same.) Best of luck

and ask anything you like. We look forward to hearing lots n lots from

you.

Welcome to the group! If you're interested in using any meat substitutes,

Quorn (http://www.quorn.com/) is great stuff. I think it has a better

texture than the soy products, though I enjoy the soy meat substitutes, too.

Welcome! Check out the files, there are so many wonderful recipes to

try!

%2ARecipes/

I enjoy vegetarian meals and fortunately my family is willing to try

my creations (but they're not totally veg - yet!).

I like the quorn products as well, our favorite way to prepare it is

with pasta, mushrooms, broccoli, garlic, oil (ala chicken, penne &

broccoli dishes you find in restaurants).

Have fun exploring the recipes! Everytime I do, I'm there for hours!

This is the only child who is a definite vegetarian, but my husband

and I don't eat much meat anymore.  I have gotten where I can hardly

find anything to buy because it looks so yucky to me and tastes not

half good.  I don't like soy, so I have a hard time finding

vegetarian dishes that compensate not using meat well.  I am going to

enjoy learning here.

Karen,

Welcome to the group. I am not a particularly active member here, but I

wanted to say welcome as I am also from Arizona. Where in the state are

located? If you aren't already aware, you might like to know about a

specialized bakery in Phoenix called http://www.glutenfreecreations.com

They are certified GF and also have a lot of items that do not contain

various allergens. You can get a lot of vegan stuff there...

In addition, a good resource for vegan nutrion is Becoming Vegan by

Davis and Melina.

Best Wishes,

Barbara

Hi, my name is Loren. I live in Indiana and have been an on-again off-

again vegetarian for my entire life. I am joining this group so that I

spend more of my online time strengthening my ideals. That said, my

Hello, everyone! I just joined the group today. I've been a vegetarian

for almost 2yrs now and I'm looking for some new, quick & easy recipes.

I'm a full-time student & I work full-time as well, so finding time to

cook is difficult. Looking forward to trying out some new things and

learning lots from more " experienced " vegetarians! !

I have some recipes I can use, but I'm really looking for ways to use tofu or

Start with the files! Click Vist Your Web Page at the bottom of this e-mail.

Click on files on the left side of the page. Click on recipes. You'll have the

best cookbook that you could ever find. It is nicely divided so that you can

find what you are looking for. Also don't stop with recipes. The files have lots

of information that you will need to go cold turkey.

Welcome aboard!

Hi Kiran, welcome to the group. You should check out our list of vegetarian

protein sources. It's located in the files section of this list. Here's a

direct link:

Personally I like to mix my proteins and have a few different types at one meal.

I noticed your email address ends in " in " are you from India? I have a lot of

vegetarian Indian cookbooks, I just love them!

I am very happy to join the group. Being vegeterian gives me few

options for proteins and I do not find it tasty anyway. If I add fat to

it, it becomes tasty and fattening. I do want to have tasty choices.

Hi and welcome!

It sounds like you are feeling " stuck " in a way so I'm very glad

you've joined this group. Have you gotten any ideas from the list of

vegetarian protein sources? People are so creative and post recipes

all the time (thanks for doing that, peeps!).

What are some of your absolute favorite meals to eat?

Nice to have you here,

On connecting to the link, I get message, this link appears broken. Can you give

me name of thr website? then I can search it out.

I am from India and right now residing in US.

I am glad you like indian recepies.

For protein: tofu, cottage chees, sprouted beans and various Daal(dehusked

beans), yogurt. I feel full with beans and daal. Other things get me hungry

within 2/3 hours.

Any suggestions?

Hi Kiran, sorry about that. See if this link works better: Proteins

It is not another website, but the page for this group. There are all sorts of

things there if you want to look around. You should see a link to the right of

the messages you get that say " Visit Your Group " . Try that and see what you

find!

I find I feel satiated longer by mixing my protein sources, so not having a meal

of just dal for example. I'd probably have tofu and cheese and dal together, or

other combinations :)

I am very happy to join the group. Being vegeterian gives me few

options for proteins and I do not find it tasty anyway. If I add fat to

it, it becomes tasty and fattening. I do want to have tasty choices.

Hi Suzy, welcome to the list! I, too, am the only vegetarian in my family.

Some of my recipes are simple, but the ones that aren't are freezable so I can

portion meals out and save them for later. Helps me so much for those busier

weeks, too!

This weekend I made some vegetarian cashew chili in the crock pot. It made 8

servings so I froze them all. I'll serve it with cheese and preportioned frozen

brown rice. I'm also making a soup in my crock pot with yucca, pumpkin, cashews

and fake chicken. This one is so simple! It doesn't require any spices and I

will likely freeze most of it. The rest I'll have with a new dish I am trying

made from tempeh, brown rice, curry, and peas :).

What kinds of things are you eating already?

Heather

Hi,

My name is Suzy and I have been familiar with the program for many

years, just traveling the road as I am able. Have been vegetarian for

a good many years as well. I am always interested in yummy, yet simple

recipes as I do not really enjoy cooking and I am the only vegetarian

in my family and I generally don't eat what my family eats so it

involves making separate meals.

-Please bear with me as I am basically clueless when it involves doing

things on the computer : )

I use protein powder a lot, brown rice and beans/lentils, fake chicken, tofu

(mostly as smoothies for lunch at work because I need a fast going down/no

heating up lunch as I spend my lunch time walking). Some things I do make have

multiple servings for freezing like mac and cheese (made with brown rice pasta

and veggie cheese). Many veggies and fruit (not sure if the fruit part is good

on the plan or not-haven't figured that one out).

I'm willing to try more ideas-I'm not a big fan of eating (if it doesn't contain

sugar, hence the need for the food plan!!!) so good food will help for sure.

Does the group have a list of printable recipes to choose from?

Suzy

Suzy, people post recipes from time to time in the messages. You'll have to do

a little back reading to see if there is one you like, but once you find it you

can print the messages.

About the fruit--that differs from person to person, some people can handle it,

some can't :). What step are you working on now?
