Does Krishna have a pet dog in Vraja?

Yes, according to Radha-Krishna Gannodesha-dipika. His name is Vyaghra (Tiger).

 

The dog is named "Tiger".

Are we sure that it is a dog and not a tiger?

 

Back in the old ISKCON days somebody told me that there was no dog species in the spiritual world.

 

But, I just read an article on sampradayasun.com where it says that Krishna has two pet dogs.

In addition to these pet surabhi cows, many other types of pets belong to Krsna and Radharani. Krsna's pet dogs are Vyaghra and Bhramaraka

 

So, that was news to me.

But, I think it is really sweet if it is true.

I think the idea of having dogs in Vraja is really sweet.:D

Im sure Krishna has every kind of animal pet whenever He desires.

 

Shivanada Sena dog did go back home back to Godhead on a flower airplane.

My guess is that Krishna's dogs would be shepherds, but since there are cows in Vraja they are probably called goherds.

I wonder if there are also some sheep in Vraja?

Maybe they don't need wool in Vraja?

 

We hear a lot about cows, but what about Giraffes, Hippos, Zebras etc.?

Does Krishna have a veritable zoo in Goloka Vrindavan?

 

You could imagine that there are so many animals that we can't even imagine all the animals in Goloka.

Ya! I got a hearty chuckle from that mental image as well!

 

Think what you like about the Hell's Angels, but the block on which their Manhattan headquarters is located is known as one of the safest blocks in town (just don't piss off the Hell's Angels).

I am a Sri Vaishnavite. I have a pet German Shepherd. We love animals. His name is Hanumamba. My Daughter and Son-in-Law have a cat called Poppy. We treat them as part of the family. Some Sri Vaishnavites hesitate to eat at our place because we have a Dog quoting some shastra. I am delighted that Sri Krishna had a Dog. Time to educate people. Thanks for the revelation

What do you feed your dog? This is one of the points that Vaishnavas in general have against owning pets...most of them are carnivores. I personally have one dog and two cats and gladly accept the karma of both feeding for them and caring for them, but also being the buyer of meat based kibble. It is their dharma to eat meat, but it is also our dharma to seek companionship and to care for the earth. I feed them only organic kibble...especially after the scare with the horrid practices in the factories of China. Shanti Om to all of our beloved furry children!

Hells Angels were avid chanters, at least SF boys under sonny, those who were at the hall where Prabhupada played with MG, JA, GD, QMS and BBHC.

 

Pets are not santa rasa, they are immersed in servitude. Surabhi is parental, way far above santa rasa. She consciously accepts Krsna as Her Child, feeds and nurtures.

 

Santa rasa is neutrality, pets are never neutral, they belong to their master, which is one of the four high rasas, not santa.

Please excuse me for quoting shastra, but this is why I prefer shastra over personal viewpoints, as Srila Prabhupada says in this purport that the cows of Vrajabhumi are in shanta rasa.

 

Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta Madhya 8.294 purport,

 

There are kadamba trees, cows, Kṛṣṇa's sticks with which He herds cows, and Kṛṣṇa's flute. All of these belong to śānta-rasa, the mellow of neutrality in devotional service.

So, I am kinda partial to authoritative reference when we discuss spiritual topics.:D

 

It's a bit of a rasabhasa to say that the cows are in vatsalya rasa.

Again, discernment. I proposed this to have us look at things from a different angle. So, I accept Srila Prabhupadas point here, I also accept that the cow is one of my seven mothers. So a cow from Vrndavan, especially Surabhi, is also a mother there. There is no rasa bhasa in my statement, nor disagreement with Srila Prabhupada, just a point to consider to get folks who deride those in full krsna consciousness based on imagined bodily conception is really lame, as if they got something better, a better destination.

Well, you are not the Lone Ranger in your idea that the cows of Vraja have some tinge of vatsalya rasa.

I read on one of T Swami's sanga articles where he says that Vishvanatha Chakra Thakur has also said something about the cows feeling some vatsalya rasa.

 

They way I figure it is that when the cows are being milked by Krishna they feel some upsurge of vatsalya rasa which temporarily eclipses their basic rasa of shanta as they are grazing in the fields of Vraja and nursing their calves.

 

My guess is that the cows are basically situated in shanta rasa and then at certain times they have some upsurge of vatsalya rasa when they are being milked or when Krishna is having intimate contact with them.

 

So, I don't think you are totally wrong.

I think that the cows are basically in shanta rasa and have occasional upsurges of vatsalya rasa or dasya rasa as they supply milk to the residents of Vrindavan.

 

Of course they feel sakhya rasa with the other cows and madhurya rasa with the bulls, but I won't get into all that too deep.:D

 

Of course, the cows also relish some vatsalya rasa in relationship to their calves as well.

In the transcendental world, there is also controversy. (Dont get me wrong this is not a statement that me and prabhupada have different ideas on this one in transcendental controversy, that would be a stretch between here and where the moon really is=;-)

 

Remember in prabhupadas purports of Chaitanya Charitamrta, adi lila, the controversy where gaura ganodesa dapika states that prahlada comes as _____ (I forgot, a quote would be helpful). Yet the great vaisnava acarya _________(I forgot that one, too) disagrees, saying Prahlada is ___________(you got it, I forgot). Obviously I dont remember very well, but I remember the disagreement, and here are two sources we bet our spiritual life having disagreement.

 

Well, the disagreement is transcendental, and give the devotees bliss, not at all like our perverted reflection squabbles.

 

Some may oppose just to spur meditations that produce symptoms of love of those involved with the issues. My intent was to see how wonderful the relationship is between Krsnas flute and krsnas lips.

 

I still have the intent, because I got on this "look at things another way" kick when someone tried to say Tulasi is a plant in santa rasa. She is in Radhas Hands and at Krsnas feet, she is called manjari, why do some say she has no madurya rasa. There is no rasa bhasa, both may be fact, it may be just one of them controiversies that produce bliss, not stomp on your feet, pound on your desk, grab a pill frustrations.
