1. 1943 American Movie with Yamadutas & Visnudutas
There is a great old Blk & Wht Movie called: "Cabin in the Sky" During the lead actor's death bed scene he is visited by Yamadutas but while at the same time at an other location his sister sings in her gospel choir asking for grace for her wayward brother--that's when Visnudutas arrive! --It's amazing that in 1943 some one had obviously borrowed the notion of Yamadutas & Visnudutas & The 'Holy name' and the story of Ajamila. ys, Bhaktajan .................................................. ................................................. Cabin in the Sky is an American Broadway musical which opened in 1940. A motion picture based on the musical was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and released in 1943. The film version of Cabin in the Sky starred Ethel Waters as Petunia and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson of Jack Benny fame as Little Joe. Lena Horne co-starred as the temptress Georgia Brown in her first and only leading role in an MGM musical. Other cast members included Louis Armstrong as one of Lucifer Junior's minions, Rex Ingram as Lucifer Junior, and Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, who have a showcase musical number. [edit] Overview and history Cabin in the Sky tells a version of the Faust legend in which Little Joe, a man killed over gambling debts, is given six months to redeem his soul and become worthy of entering Heaven -- otherwise his soul will be condemned to Hell. Produced by Arthur Freed and directed by Vincente Minnelli in one of his first Hollywood productions, Cabin in the Sky was a groundbreaking production for its time due to the decision to use an all-African-American cast. In the 1940s, movie theaters in many cities, particularly in the southern United States, refused to show films with prominent black performers, so MGM took a considerable financial risk by approving the film. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Happiness is a Thing Called Joe." Cabin in the Sky is remembered for its intelligent and witty script, which treated its characters and their race with a dignity rare in American films of the time, although some depictions are still a bit jarring to 21st century sensibilities. According to liner notes in the CD reissue of the film's soundtrack, Freed and Minnelli sought input from black leaders before production began on the film. One musical number, in which Horne sings a reprise of "Ain't It the Truth" while taking a bubble bath, was cut from the film prior to release, though it later appeared in a 1946 Pete Smith short subject entitled Studio Visit. As Horne later said in the documentary That's Entertainment! III in which the excised performance was also featured, it was felt that to show a black woman singing in a bath went beyond the bounds of moral decency in 1943. A second (non-bubble bath) performance of this song by Louis Armstrong was also cut from the final print, resulting in the famous trumpeter having no solo musical number in the film. After years of unavailability, Warner Home Video and Turner Entertainment released it on DVD on January 10, 2006. Cabin in the Sky is an American Broadway musical which opened in 1940. 2. Salmonella Outbreak Hits 42 States Jan. 7, 2008 <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comWASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. - An outbreak of salmonella food poisoning has made 388 people sick across 42 states, sending 18 percent of them to the hospital, U.S. health officials said on Wednesday. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to trace the source of the outbreak, which began in September. The Department of Agriculture, state health officials and the Food and Drug Administration are also involved. The CDC said poultry, cheese and eggs are the most common source of this particular strain, known as Salmonella typhimurium. "It is often difficult to identify sources of foodborne outbreaks. People may not remember the foods they recently ate and may not be aware of all of the ingredients in food. That's what makes these types of investigations very difficult," said CDC spokesman David Daigle. Daigle did not specify how many people were hospitalized, but the percentage he gave puts that figure at about 70. "Because foods of animal origin may be contaminated with Salmonella, people should not eat raw or undercooked eggs, poultry, or meat. Persons also should not consume raw or unpasteurized milk or other dairy products. Produce should be thoroughly washed," he said. Only Ohio state health officials have agreed to have their state named as one of those affected, with an estimated 50 cases. Every year, approximately 40,000 people are reported ill with salmonella in the United States, the CDC says, but it said many more cases are never reported. There have been several recent high-profile outbreaks of foodborne illness in the United States, including a strain of Salmonella carried by peppers from Mexico and that sickened 1,400 people from April to August of 2007 and an E. coli epidemic in 2006, traced to California spinach, that killed three. Salmonella-contaminated dry pet food sickened at least 79 people, including many young children, in October and November. Places Germs Lurk: Restaurant menus: Menus that aren't properly washed would make patrons run the other way if they knew what was really on them. Experts recommend never letting a menu touch your plate or silverware. Wallets and purses: Studies have shown that paper currency can carry germs, viruses and even small amounts of illegal drugs. Men's wallets can be a breeding ground for bacteria since they tend to carry them in their pockets, which keeps them close to body temperature. Purses can pick up bacteria when they're placed on the floor. Gas station pump handles and keypads: It's not just grease that can coat pump handles and keyboards, as studies have shown they can be ripe with bacteria. Germ gurus recommend keeping a small bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer so you can clean up after you gas up. Laundry machines: Public laundry facilities can be teeming with germs, but even home machines can have their share. A pair of underwear has about 0.1 gram of fecal material, amounting to about 100 million E. coli bacteria in an average load. Microbiologist Charles Gerba recommends washing undergarments in very hot water and drying them for a full 45 minutes to kill more bacteria. Salt and pepper shakers: If someone in your house has a cold, the virus could hang out here for a couple of days. Remote controls: Often handled and rarely cleaned, these devices can harbor bacteria and viruses. For a quick clean, remove the batteries. Use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or cleaner and a toothpick to clean off the gunk in the hard-to-reach places. Put alcohol or another cleaner on a cloth, and wipe it down. Escalators: Riders can leave nasty stuff behind on rubber handrails as the grip onto them for safety. A 2003 study by the New York Daily News found significant amounts of bacteria living on rubber surfaces in the city's subway system. The same can be true for elevator buttons. Experts recommend using your elbow or knuckle instead of your fingertip to select your floor. Cubicles: According to Environmental Health Services in St. Paul, Minn., the average work desk has 21,000 germs per square inch. Even for workers who keep their areas clean, bacteria from a neighbor's uneaten food or sweaty workout clothes can crawl over the cubicle wall. Keyboards: Have you ever shaken a keyboard upside-down and been repulsed by the pieces of food, dust and other gunk that fly out? Cleaning crews often avoid computer equipment to not risk damaging them, so those areas may be teeming with bacteria. Gerba recommends using an alcohol-based sanitizer for the job. Fax and copy machines: The "enter" and "send" buttons on fax machines carry much higher concentrations of harmful germs than lesser used keys, according to Gerba's research. That's also the case for the "copy" button on copy machines and the handles of restroom doors. Home offices often have even higher levels of contamination because working at home can come with bad habits, such as placing your feet on your desk. Shopping carts: Shopping carts can be covered with microbes and pathogens that can transfer to your hands and the food you choose. A 2007 study at the University of Arizona study found that the handles of nearly two-thirds of shopping carts were contaminated with fecal bacteria. The fact that children often sit in the seat of larger carts adds to the problem. "That's putting a kid's butt where you put your broccoli". Shower curtain: A study in Applied and Environmental Microbiology found that vinyl shower curtains are festering with bacteria and can breed pathogens such as infection-causing Sphingomonas and Methylobacterium.

 7. hari_ks77, I do support you: not follow Prabhupada books. When I live in Srila Prabhupada's ashrams--I am justified in remebering other's sufferings. May your sufferings be mitigated. Brahminical disciplines are evidently beyond your perview--Be satisfied with your station in life and preform your dharma as is alloted to you by maha-maya prakriti shakti --with as much effort as required. Fair well. I will not follow Mohamed's books. I will not follow Buddha's Books. I will not follow Bible Books. I will not follow MahaBhagavatas' Books. I will not follow sampradayas nor paramparas. I will not follow . . . oh so much denial!

 12. None of the Indian devottees read his books for their own reading, so I was told ... 1] Ian, you've not made any offense to anyone. I don't have a taste for Prabhupada's purports. ... 2] Ian, you simply made a statement that, 'Scared the hell out of everyone'. Over the years --a devotee compiles mental notes of his/her lifes' experiences from which to see "sastra" --and Ian, you created a "thought" that has heretofore been un-coined. A new file has had to be formed to contain such a "confounding concept" --I'm afraid others have been overly tactfull while withholding their gasps.
 13. Theist prabhu, What can mitigate this inauspicious result to 'taking' milk? Was it Urvasi [?] who requested to eat only foods cooked in ghee--lest she'd flee. So, I see the prospect of renouncing milk as a type of death --without chance of repose. I agree with you totally --yet, like a drug addict, I have long see Krsna's opulence in the taste of milk. How shall it come to pass-- that we can affect some initial 'Change'?

 17. Ian, What difference in "mood"? The demand to shave your head right there and then? Your statement, "devottees who do not rely at all on Prabhupada's books ---because I just don't like them." this the most bazaar concept I have ever heard--it is ipso facto self-contracdictory. I'd wager that few will consider your initial post as sincere 'without revealing your personal experience in light of your personal expectations [and your personal journey (level of familaraity with bhakti-yoga) with specificity'. I have seen & lived through all the ups & downs of ISKCON --so, to me, any bad occurences/experiences of visitors to an ISKCON-run Mandir are of interest to me. It is a very strange statement to say, "devottees who do not rely at all on Prabhupada's books because I just don't like them." It not my concern if you are staunch in your view--it's is just un-probable that a 'neophyte' sees subtle differences in "mood" of sadhus and their sanga --except if the settings were always 'away' from the ashram's hallowed halls in a temporary public venue. I've never know a 'brahmacari' pestering visitors to do ... anything; except in your case --something erked you?

 19. Murders Among Black Youths Rising WASHINGTON DC. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<st1:place w:st=" />USA (Dec. 29) - The number of young black men and teenagers who either killed or were killed in shootings has risen at an alarming rate since 2000, a new study shows. The study, to be released Monday by criminologists at <ST1:PNortheaster University in Boston, comes as FBI data is showing that murders have leveled off nationwide. Not so for black teens, the youngest of whom saw dramatic increases in shooting deaths, the Northeastern report concluded. Last year, for example, 426 black males between the ages of 14 and 17 were killed in gun crimes, the study shows. That marked a 40 percent increase from 2000. Similarly, an estimated 964 in the same age group committed fatal shootings in 2007 — a 38 percent increase from seven years earlier. The number of offenders is estimated because not all crimes are reported, said Northeastern criminologist James Alan Fox, who co-authored the study. "Although the overall rate of homicide in the United States remains relatively low, the landscape is quite different for countless Americans living, and some dying, in violence-infested neighborhoods," Fox said. Seizing on President-elect Barack Obama's incoming administration as an opportunity for more funding, Fox added: "There is an urgency for reinvestment in children and families. In essence, we need a bailout for kids at risk." Obama will be the nation's first black president. The study partly blamed Bush administration grant cuts to local police and juvenile crime prevention programs for the surge in crimes by young black men and teens. Incoming Vice President Joe Biden has promised funding to put 50,000 new police officers on the street to help bring violent crime rates back to a decade-long annual decline that began in the mid-1990s, after then-President Bill Clinton provided local officials with money to hire 100,000 new cops. Nationwide, the number of murders and violent crimes overall dropped last year after increasing in 2005 and 2006, according to annual data compiled by the FBI. Overall, however, murders have risen by about 8 percent between 2000 and 2007. The FBI reported 10,067 arrests in murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases in 2007. Half of the people arrested — 5,078 — were black. Almost 10 percent of black people arrested for murder were under age 18, the FBI data show. The number of young white men who committed gun-related homicides also rose over the same period, the Northeastern study showed, but not as dramatically. In 2007, an estimated 384 white males age 14 to 17 shot someone to death, up from 368 in 2000. The numbers of homicides committed by women and teenage girls — whether black or white — were relatively few, the Northeastern study found. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Bhaktajan: These people are flesh eaters surrounded by inexpensive meat serving outlets catering to their masses of underprivileged anti-establishment 'frog-in-the-well' instant-sense-gratification acolytes with a world outlook that extends as far as they can 'think'. Please, why is it not shown as undisputable that poor crime ridden areas are filled with flesh mongers —of the bone discarding type, with mustard packets into the bargain —as the common denominator in all the demographics of crime addled societies?!
