  10. In order to understand why people keep a spot on the forehead, we need to understand the 'Chakra' system in the body. You can visit the following link for information on Chakras in the body. (Refer Six Energy Centers - Chakras) http://www.indiadivine.org/vedic-reiki-chakras1.htm The spot on the forehead is generally referred to as 'Kumkum'. The following are the main reasons: 1) The Ajna Chakra can be protected by keeping 'KumKum' on the forehead. (It is said that Ajna Chakra is very sensitive. It is concerned with the spiritual aspects of our lives. It also represents the brain and governs the paths we choose and the choices we make.) - I haven't read this information in any particular book, but I have heard through many learned people. 2) One more reason can be 'To identify the body as a Temple of the Lord'. This also helps you to see others as 'People who are carrying the Lord in their heart'. It will help you to be gentle and show compassion towards others. 3) It is also said that 'KumKum' keeps you away from certain diseases/infections and also acts as an anti-biotic. I'm sure there are many other reasons which the other members of this forum will tell you. - PN Prasad

  12. I'm sorry that I posted such links on this board. I did not know that it was offensive. Well, anyone who wants to know this information can do a Google search and find it out. Again, sorry for the offences.
  13. I posted some information on accusations against Sai Baba. Was that removed?
  14. Most of the Yogis in Himalayas also have the capability to read minds. They call you directly by your name and tell you about your future or the problems that you are facing. They can also give you solutions to your problems. All such mystic powers are diversions on the path. One should never be attracted by such powers or to a person who is having such powers. A person who is fully surrendered and completely devoted to God will acquire all these qualities.
  15. Diamond Rings - Yes, he gives lots of Diamond Rings to many people. He had also given Diamond Rings to Chief Ministers of various states. There are several techniques of making the diamond rings appear out of nowhere. There are many Yogis in the Himalayas who can make things disappear from any part of the world and make it appear somewhere else. If possible, please read "Living with the Himalayan Masters" by Swami Rama. It will give you a very good knowledge of all the powerful Yogis who are much more powerful than Sai Baba. Still, they never claim that they are God.
  16. I had noted this in my diary. Forgot the source... "When you are against someone, you have no freedom from them. If you find fault in someone, and your mind is set against them, know that you are stuck with them, glued with them! It is like a Super glue!"

  18. There is much more news...though I can remember only so much as of now.
  19. On June 7th, the President of India, Dr.Abdul Kalam and Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna visited ISKCON Bangalore. I watched the news that evening and I can summarize as follows: 1) He (President) offered obeisances to Lord Radha Krishna, Lord Chaitanya, Narasimha Deva and Srinivasa Govinda. 2) He offered a beautiful garland to Srila Prabhupada. 3) He served food to 200 poor children from Bangalore rural schools. 4) He inagurated the 'Kids for Kids' programme under the Akshaya Patra programme, wherein a rich kid will sponsor food for poor children in various schools. 5) He appreciated the devotees for holding such a nice programme under which they serve food to 43,000 school children daily. 6) He also said that the number will increase to 1,00,000 children daily. The devotees are trying to increase the food distribution to 2,50,000 by 2005. For details on the Akshaya Patra Programme, you can visit: http://www.akshayapatra.org
  20. scared me too!! I was laughing out loud while reading the descriptions.
  21. Generally, I'm very disturbed when I read such news. Why do accidents happen at holy places? Is it the effect of Karma?
  22. TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, JUNE 05, 2003 01:49:17 AM ] BANGALORE: Sri Sathya Sai Baba cancelled morning and evening darshans at his W h i t e f i e l d ashram, near here, on Wednesday after he had a fall, injuring his hip bone. Sources at the ashram said Baba, after the mishap, cancelled a scheduled visit to the chief minister’s residence. A large number of devotees left the ashram after he cancelled darshans for the day. The sources said Baba’s health “is perfect’’, he was “cheerful’’ and received the office-bearers of his Central Trust in his quarters. However, the sources indicated that that Baba was unlikely to resume daily darshans at least for the next few days. * Additional Note by PN Prasad: God does not and cannot fall down. Humans who claim to be God can fall down. I read in today's newspaper that Sai Baba underwent a hip bone surgery.
  23. TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, JUNE 05, 2003 02:02:22 AM ] TIRUPATI: Three pilgrims were killed and 15 others seriously injured when a state-owned bus plunged into an 80 ft valley on the winding road of the Tirumala hills early Wednesday. The bus driver was negotiating a hairpin bend on its way to Tirupati. According to reports, driver S Aamir lost control of the bus while negotiating a sharp curve and hit a retaining wall. The wall collapsed and the bus plunged into the valley. The bus was carrying 46 passengers when the accident took place around 4.30 am on Wednesday. 24. Yes, we need to understand that the spiritual master is as good as the Lord. We can take directions from the living spiritual master. However, the problem starts when the teacher who is guiding us leaves the path, or gets diverted. Yes, we should not speak about others' falling down or leaving the path. But, what does a new devotee who has been serving the spiritual master for few years do when his master leaves the path, or gets diverted? It will really hurt a true disciple. Prabhupada's teachings are perfect in all ways. (I do not intend to say that other devotees did not contribute anything to the movement). Whenever, any master leaves the path, it is always better to take shelter of the original acharya. They have taught by example. We can learn from their teachings and by their example. They did not get diverted from their path nor did they fall down. Initiation is not just a ritual. Initiation cannot happen only by taking diksa. Initiation truly happens when love of God arises in the heart of the Sadhaka. That is the sign of the beginning/initiating. It is not really necessary that the spiritual master need to be physically present to initiate a disciple. What we can do is..... 1) Stop thinking/speaking about others' falling down. It is negative thinking which affects our progress on the path. Do not see anything as 'my' mistake or 'his' mistake. 'My' mistake means guilt and 'his' mistake means anger. See a mistake only as a mistake. Do not relate it to somebody. 2) Do not condemn or give lengthy explanations as to why you do not intend to follow other living spiritual masters. 3) Know that Krishna loves all of us (those who are devotees, those who have fallen from the path and all souls in this universe). 4) More importantly, have full faith in the master whom you are serving (whether physically present or not). Follow his teachings with total dedication and devotion. You will be serving him by doing so and he will surely respond to such sincere service. 5) You can also take advice from the masters who are physically present. 6) Pray to Krishna daily that let Him bestow His mercy on all the souls in this universe. Let him shower His blessings on all the people who have left the path and who are progressing on this path and those who are new to this path. Life is too short to complain/fight. Let's live our life completely by serving Krishna knowing fully well that he will protect all of us. PN Prasad
  25. It's our duty to protect Krishna. The Lord is so beautiful in Tirumala Hills. We need to protect Him. (The Lord also knows how to protect Himself). I think it's time the temple management thinks about more stringent measures to protect our Lord. Till now, we can practically see that how Lord protects Dharma on this planet. When India (supposed to be following all the Vedic principles) left all those Vedic practices, Prabhupada was born and he carried Bhakti-Devi to the western countries. Now, the science of going back to the Lord is available throughout the world and on the Net too. How lucky we must be to have been born at this time! There will be many saints born in future to protect the Lord and His teachings. PN Prasad
