  1. This question even gets more complicated. The embryos they want to use are ones they have had frozen by couples that may want them in the future. At some point they have all these extra embryos and need to discard them for various reasons. So they pose the question, "Well we are going to dispose of them anyway,so why not get some valuable use from them instead of just dumping them in the trash?" They create this ridiculous situation of frozen embryos in the first place, which leads to all these best use of a bad bargin type choices. How do we answer them?
  2. Timely topic Gaurachandra. Here is SB 3.31.1 where it says the soul enters into a particle of the male semen. TRANSLATION The Personality of Godhead said: Under the supervision of the Supreme Lord and according to the result of his work, the living entity, the soul, is made to enter into the womb of a woman through the particle of male semen to assume a particular type of body.sb 3.31.1 PURPORT As stated in the last chapter, after suffering different kinds of hellish conditions, a man comes again to the human form of body. The same topic is continued in this chapter. In order to give a particular type of human form to a person who has already suffered hellish life, the soul is transferred to the semen of a man who is just suitable to become his father. During sexual intercourse, the soul is transferred through the semen of the father into the mother’s womb in order to produce a particular type of body. This process is applicable to all embodied living entities, but it is especially mentioned for the man who was transferred to the Andha-tämisra hell. After suffering there, when he who has had many types of hellish bodies, like those of dogs and hogs, is to come again to the human form, he is given the chance to take his birth in the same type of body from which he degraded himself to hell. Everything is done by the supervision of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Material nature supplies the body, but it does so under the direction of the Supersoul. It is said in Bhagavad-gétä that a living entity is wandering in this material world on a chariot made by material nature. The Supreme Lord, as Supersoul, is always present with the individual soul. He directs material nature to supply a particular type of body to the individual soul according to the result of his work, and the material nature supplies it. Here one word, retaù-kaëäçrayaù, is very significant because it indicates that it is not the semen of the man that creates life within the womb of a woman; rather, the living entity, the soul, takes shelter in a particle of semen and is then pushed into the womb of a woman. Then the body develops. There is no possibility of creating a living entity without the presence of the soul simply by sexual intercourse. The materialistic theory that there is no soul and that a child is born simply by material combination of the sperm and ovum is not very feasible. It is unacceptable. YS MC

  4. Hey Gaurachandra, this group is based in Homolulu*, which used to have a Ratha Yatra in Waikiki.I wonder if there isn't already some attempt at this. Anybody from the islands on this station? *That was an honest typo, I swear.Too funny to delete.
  5. Is there no safe place for the poor Mother cow on this whole earth? WORLD June 27, 2001 VNN6811 Comment on this story Cruelty Against The Cows In India BY DR. RAJENDRA MISHRA INDIA, Jun 27 (VNN) — Animal rights group to target Indian meat export An international animal rights group campaigning against the use of leather exports from India said it would shift its protests to target meat exports from the country. The U.S.-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said it would its planned protest against Indian embassies following the government's decision to crack down on cruelty to animals. "PETA's campaign will shift its focus to countries importing unclean and cruelly produced meat form India," it added. Earlier this month, India's commerce and industry ministry said the state's governments had been urged to set-up panels to enforce the Prevention of Cruelties to Animal Act in 1960. India's action followed protest from activist, included ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, and campaigns PETA which said it had persuaded five big global retailers to stop using leather from India. PETA said it had begun a series of meetings with diplomatic envoys of countries buying halal meat from meat in India in an effort to dissuade them from buying what they said was a falsely labeled product since it was not slaughtered humanely and in the ritual Islamic manner. "Much of the meat coming from India can in no way be considered halal, not only because of the clumsy slaughter with blunt knives, but also because of the cruelties leading up to the slaughter of the cattle." Indian cattle meat exports are estimated to total up to 175,000 tons annually, and are valued at about 7.29 billion Rupees (1.63 million). PETA, which estimates that around 13 million cows are slaughtered in India every year for beef and hide, say that the animal faced cruel treatment in the country despite their sacred status in Hinduism. Cows are sacred to Hindus, who make up roughly 80% of India's population of 1 billion and their slaughter is banned in all but two of India's 26 states. Yours truly, Dr. Rajendra Mishra _________ I am hoping the Indian people will give an example to the world, and kick the demon companies like McDonalds out beyond her borders. Doing this in the name of Maharaja Pariksit would certainly be a great service. YS MC
  6. Yes, I remember, also years back, a couple of devotees that patronized McDonalds"because their fries were the best".Turns out they were being cooked in beef lard.So I know it happens. To what extent I have no idea. Unless I am absolutley forced I wouldn't go near such a place to even pass stool. And I am not a strict practioner of sadhana-bhakti. The thought of bhaktas with neck beads and bead bags being seen patronizing such a place is sad indeed if it is still happening. A little friendly social pressure from their God brothers may be in order. Friends don't let their friends eat at McDonalds.
  7. Vaisya hypocrisy?Vaisya's have a duty to protect the cows right? I remember a Kentucky Fried Chicken joint across the street from the temple in Portland years back. That disgusting smell would permeate the neighborhood. My opinion is that any reason to oppose McDonalds and the like is a valid reason.
  8. Well there goes the neighborhood. If it is allowed to happen.Even people not connected to KC practice should object.Increased traffic, noise and litter. What a mess. McDonalds should also be run out of India before they proliferate any more there.
  9. The idea to argue against one's own position as being raised by Gauracandra and discussed by Janus must be very powerfull. I noticed a certain unease as I began to imagine myself doing it, which must be pointing to an area of weak faith within myself.A true kanistha.Hmmm...revealing already.
  10. Haribol Janus, Its seems there is little interest in the idea anyway.By top level I meant those chosen by their group to represent them. You would get the ones with the best scriptural knowledge and debate ability to present their case.I understand that really the top devotee may be illiterate and scrubbing the temple latrine everyday. The idea of limiting the formal debate to one or two presenters is that it keeps a certain consistancy in the exchange.I also suggested a paralle thread for the rest of us to discuss it.With questions from us going through Jndas to the guests. As it is now it is like an open sore that has the prospect of festering on for decades. But this was also only an example idea.I was picturing many subjects being discussed by many different people from different fields. And the format wouldn't have to be adversarial always.I was picturing say a Catholic theologian discussing Catholcism with a knowledgeable Chaitanya Bhakta. Now if we were all firing in on him at once it would be very confusing for him.But structured well it may serve as a bridge for common understanding. Some debates, some dialogues.I probably should have avoided using the SNM controvesry as a first example. Now I want to see you next post. 11. I feel it is a horrendous mistake, even and outrage that they would link the two terms Vaisnava and Gay in the title for their organization. I am drowning in my own sinful nature most of the time, but not proudly. I understand your point Gaurachandra on relative sinfulness and don't know how to weigh one against the other. The difference here is they are trying to legitimize their deviant behavior and drag it[pun] into Vaisnava society. How about: Krishna's Cow Eatters Association or Sadomasochistic Vaisnava Society Every soul has a right to chant Krishna's names. But I feel these people have a different or at leasted a mixed agenda. They are trying for acceptance of their demonic behavior into the world of Vaisnavism and society at large. Here is a case where don't ask don't tell would be appropriate. I ran into this same site a couple of weeks back just searching on the word vaisnava. Now that they are bringing it out into to public awareness they have earned a public condemnation from the Vaisnava community at large. If they can't stop their behavior then they should at least keep it in the closet. And may they please shut the door.
  12. Hare Hare I meant to type here here, but I'll let the Hare Hare stand.
  13. Nice to get some good news once in a while. Now for the American sheeple to wake up and boot these dogs out of office.
  14. Okay atma mama, that is actually good advice. We must ever vigilant and watchful for things that fly in the night. I sleep with one eye open.
  15. Me either bro., me either
  16. I hear that bro. Some of them like to snatch your heart, fly high into the sky on their brooms and then drop it on the ground right in front of you from such a high altitude. Splat! Then some will even fly back down to rub your face in it. [Any semblance to actual events was only coincidental.]
  17. Gentleman, always have your heart covered with kevlar in mixed company. You never know when one may strike.
  18. Jagat, I more or less stopped going to and participating in school in the seventh grade. If you want to start nit picking on my grammer you will be kept very busy. And why start now when I have been abusing proper grammer and speeling[sp?] on various forums for more than two years? What is really up? Go ahead, let it out. This is the thread for it.
  19. Are they using the term Sankaracarya in a way similar to how a Buddhist might use the term Bodhisattva? This is a new topic to me.I had only heard of Adi Shankara.
  20. Haribol JRdd, I took it Jagannatha was not aiming his comment at you but only making the observation that some are complaining alot while others are busy doing some pratical service. I could be wrong but I took it as a generalized statement. Mind at ease dasi. YS MC [This message has been edited by Maitreya (edited 07-03-2001).]
  21. I found this on a Christian forum.Do we find something to learn from here?I mean I know we have a deeper theology in many ways, but still I ask is there something we can learn here? What must it feel like for someone to first walk in the doors of a Krishna temple here in America? Many may feel just like this. Are we sensitive to it?Do we see that Krishna has just brought someone that may become a life long personal friend? [This message has been edited by Maitreya (edited 07-02-2001).]
  22. das, Maitreya stepped out for while.I think to have a fully cafeinated double latte and watch the parade of young females forms on campus. Poor chap is so easily hypnotized. Then when he remembers what's under the skin he becomes traumitized. It's crazy to watch this guy's mood swings.Almost as if he is caught exactly in middle of two opposite worlds.Or sitting on a fence between them trying to decide which one to live in and thus not living fully in either one.Riven cloud? "To exploit or serve that is the question".You can hear him mumbling that to himself as he moves through the house. He is truly a weak one, that without the gracious glance and support of the vaisnava's[of all levels]hasn't a prayer of awakening love for Krishna. I'll tell him to check the thread when he wanders back in.
  23. But Gaurachandra, Jesse Ventura would then rule the USA.Things are weird enough without him in charge. How about showdowns at sundown? An elimination series.Last one standing gets the big chair. Also we would get a new crop every four years.
  24. Hare Krishna Brahma, I came upon this this morning while looking for something else and remembering your post thought this might relate. From a room conversation July 10 1976: Prabhupäda: Who has introduced this peculiar dancing? Hari-çauri: It just evolved. (laughs) Rüpänuga: We were speaking about that the other day. It’s changed from the original dancing that you showed us to something else. Too much like the modern dancing. Prabhupäda: Hmm. I think this is not good. Tamäla Kåñëa: Shall I read on? “The service has become...” What way should we dance, Srila Prabhupäda? With our hands outstretched? Sometimes the devotees like to jump around. Is that all right? Prabhupäda: In ecstasy one can do anything, that is another... But artificially to do something is not good. Tamäla Kåñëa: But if one feels like jumping, it is all right? Prabhupäda: Anything artificial is not required. Rüpänuga: So running back and forth is not... Prabhupäda: No, no, that should not be an artificial. Hari-çauri: We don’t dance for show, we dance for the pleasure of the Deities.
