  1. Its funny how after Karthik offers a variety of scientific evidence and proof to show that the aryan invasion theory is absolutely false, you post a message saying, "There is no proof at all..." without even trying to refute any of the evidences offered by Karthik. Why waste time with such posts. Either address his points above or keep quiet. You've done no more than post an opinion while claiming it to be undisputed truth.
  2. I dont think the punishment of crimes is a proof that one evolved from the other. There is a natural instinct for society to punish criminals, which would naturally manifest in the form of harm or restriction.

  4. Now that you brought it up, I guess you better post the story as well.
  5. When you take a shower, the increase of the hot steam is so gradual, that you don't notice how thick and heavy the air is becoming. But if someone had taken a hot shower, and then immediately afterwards you enter the shower, you will have a real hard time breathing.
  6. My own experience is that it becomes hard to breath with all that heavy air in your lungs. As soon as you come out of the shower and smell the open air, it is so refreshing and clean.
  7. I don't think individually they will be expensive, but there are so many that all together it might cost a bit. I think I remember it was 20 or 30 episodes. [This message has been edited by jndas (edited 01-10-2002).]
  8. What are the effects of getting water in one's lungs from breathing in the steam when one takes a hot shower?

  10. I like the Gita press edition as well. Plus all of their books are very inexpensive for their sizes (like 100 rupees for a 1000 page book or something).
  11. In Guadiya-Kanthahara, the following text of Madhva's is quoted: What is to be known as sastra or scripture? 2. 43 rg-yajum-samatharva-sca bharatam pa-caratrakam mula-ramayana-scaiva saastramityabhidhiyate yacchanukulametasya taccha saastram prakirtitam ato'nya grasthavistaro naiva sastram kurvatmatat "The Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva Vedas, as well as the Mahabharata, the Narada-Pa-caratra, and the Mula-Ramayana , are certainly known as shastra, or revealed scripture. Those books that favorably follow in the footsteps of these authorized literatures are also designated as shastra. All other literatures (which are not in pursuance of these authorized scriptures) simply lead one down the wrong path, and can never be known as scriptures." (Madhva-Bhashyadhrita Skandavacana)
  12. This is likely due to the number of texts claiming to be "Valmiki Ramayana" and "Mahabharata". Mula-Ramayana is actually the real Valmiki Ramayana, but many other texts carry this name today. Valmiki was the Vyasa incarnation of the 24th Chatur-yuga of the present Manvantara. In that period he compiled the Vedic texts.
  13. I think the simplest answer is that those verse are not from Valmiki Ramayana (mula-ramayana). Perhaps they are from some other Ramayana, not necessarily an authorized or authentic text. There are so many versions which claim the name Ramayana, but only Valmiki Ramayana is the original and authentic source.
  14. That painting of Vishnu happens to be for sale by some devoteeright now. I saw his message somewhere else. One thing that is strange about the picture is that Vishnu is in the water. The description from the scripture is that half of the universe is filled with water, and he is lying on the water on ananta sesha. Just a mixup I suppose. Nevertheless, it is a nice painting.
  15. I appreciate the mood of the inscriptions, a lot of stress is put on nonviolence and kindness.

  17. This was from an older thread: I was going through a trunk of old documents and came across a letter from Dr. Richard Thompson (Sadaputa) that mentioned some interesting and relevant points regarding the history of India. Here is an excerpt:

  19. Just refreshing old threads so we don't have to rewrite all this stuff again.

  21. Bringing this thread back into light since the topic has come up.
  22. Those verse from Ramayana are just Vasishtha given instructions to a messenger as to which kings he should invite to the Ashvamedha yajna. It is basically a long list of kings and which country they ruled. Nothing else. I assume your question revolves around some aspect of the Ashvamedha yajna, perhaps some criticism found on non-hindu sites. If thats the case, these verses offer nothing about the sacrifice. If you really want me to type out the translation I will, but I didn't see anything meaningfull in it outher than a list of names of kings.
  23. In case anyone does not know, there is also a similar multi part series on Mahabharata. And after the success of those two serials, every film producer has tried to make a similar series. For example, now there is "Vishnu Puran", "Veer Hanuman", "Ma Durga", "Krishna", etc. Each is a weekly TV serial based on the Puranic stories. It seems every channel has their own version nowadays.
