  1. Pitra-Rin

Since we enjoy the wealth, name and fame earned by our

ancestors we are equally liable to suffer their misdeeds too. The

dosh created as a result of the bad deeds of our ancestors is paitrik-

dosh or pitra-rin or pitra-shrap. Even in the legal system we are

held responsible for the debts of our forefathers similarly in

astrology too we have to pay their debts. Brahat parashar gives 14

kinds of pitra-shrap, Mantreshwar in phal deepika says that rahu in

the 5th creates pishach-badha, Gopal Ratnakar calls it sarp-shrap. In

the traditional vedic astrology Rahu is considered the main cause of

    these dosh .

Lal Kitab in its 1952 edition discusses this problem in great

detail along with its remedies . I quote from Lal Kitab :

{ ghar nauve ho koi grah baitha,

    budh baitha jad sathi ho ;

rin pitri us ghar se hoga ,

    asar grah sab nisphal ho ;

saathi grah jab jad koi kate ,

    drishti magar wo chhupta ho

paanch ,barah, do, nau koi mande,

    rin pitri ban jaata ho }

The lines above describe these three conditions of pitra-rin:

[ 1 ] ' ghar nauve ho koi grah baitha , budh baitha jad saathi

ho ' ---- If there is a grah in the 9th house and Mercury occupies

the rashi of that grah then it will be a pitr-rin kundali. For

example jupiter is in the 9th house and if Mercury is in either

sagittarius or pisces , or venus is in the 9th and mercury is in

    taurus or libra .

[ 2 ] ' saathi grah jab jad koi kate , drishti magar wo chhuptaa

ho ' --- when the enemy planets occupy a rashi and is not aspected by

the rashi lord , the kundali will be of pitr-rin. For example if the

enemy planets of saturn like sun , moon or mars occupy either makar

or kumbha and if not aspected by saturn .

[ 3 ] 'paanch barah nau do koi mande , rin pitra ban jaata ho' --- if

there is an enemy planet of Jupiter like venus or mercury in the

    5th , 12th , 9th and 2nd then also it will be a pitr-rin kundali .

The Lal kitab suggests remedies in detail for pitr-rin arising out of

such situations . It provides the detailed cause of these debts , the

grah involved and its remedies. I have not seen such a detail in any

    other book on astrology.

Please see the folowing para for your answer.

    4. The number of the Janma Nakshtra is multiplied by three (3). The numbers of birth tithi as recknoed from Sukla Paksha prati pada and the day of birth (as reckoned from Sunday) are added and the sum is divided by eight (8). The remainder indicates the Ganda Dosh (Error/Evil). Following are the effect if the remainder is

    1. Complete destruction
    2. Loss of wealth
    3. danger to mother
    4. Loss of physical power

  3. Meaning

The fear of Ganda-Moola or “Gandants” is highly prevalent in our society. At the time of birth pandits often terrorise the parents if a child born under certain nakshatra. It is important to understand the myth and reality first. The “Ganda “ means “Knot” and the “anta” means “end”. The Zodiac or the path of moon is divided into 12 raashis or in 27 nakshatras. So, it is the junction point in the zodiac which can be found at three places.

    Concept

Interestingly the nature of each sign repeats after every 4 signs. For Example Aries is first sign. It is of firey nature. The sequence is as follows-

    Aries,Leo,Sagittarius- Firey

    Taurus,Virgo,Capricorn-Earthy

    Gemini,Libra,Acquarius-Airy

    Cancer,Scorpio,Pisces-Watery

We all know that fire and water are enimical. The border between Aries-Pisces,Cancer-Leo and Scorpio-Saggitarius act like danger mark or in otherway it is like a “knot” or “point of junction”. That is why when moon is about to cross the dividing line or has just cross it then it is considered as a warning signal. It is believe that a person born under this situation suffers numerous miseries in life. Since each raashi can be sub divided into nakshatras, so the nakshatras falling at the beginning of Aries/Leo/Saggitarius i.e. Aswini, Magha and Moola and the nakshatras falling at the end of Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces i.e. Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati can be trouble causing. But this rule is too general and the pandits make full use of it as a weapon to terrorise the parents of a new born. Since the nakshatra can be further subdivided into 4 padas therefore 4th pada of Revati, Ashlesha, Jyestha and the 1st pada of Ashwini, Magha and Moola should be put into scanner. The first three Ghatis(1 ghati=24 mints) of Ashwini, magha & moola nakshatras and the last five Ghatis before the end of the ashlesha, jyeshtha & revati are important.

    Views

1.First If birth is in the daytime, it is called Pitri (father) Gandanta while a night birth during Gandanta is called Matri (mother) Gandanta.

    2. The second view is if birth in Revati – Aswini junction is called Swa (self) –Gandanta, if birth in Ashlesha – Magha junction is called Matri (mother) Gandanta and if birth in Jyestha – Moola junction is called Pitri (father) Gandanta.

    3. Consideration of Moola-Nivasa (Residence of Moola)

    a) In months of Margasirsa, Phalgun, Vaisakha and Jyestha the residence of Moola is in “Patala Loka”

    b) In Sravana, Kartika, Chaitra and Pausa the residence of Moola is in Martyu Loka

    c) In months of Ashada, Aswina, Bhadra and Magha, the residence of Moola is in Swarga Loka

If birth is in Gandanta and the residence of Moola is in the Martyu Loka then great evil is indicated. The evil is lesser for the other Loka. Also Movable, Fixed and Dual signs as the (Lagna) are said to give Moola residence of Swarga, Patala and Martyu loka respectively.

    5. Destruction in maternal relations
    6. Destructions to Co borns
    7. Loss to Father
    8. Complete loss
    Conclusion

As per traditions various remedies and rituals has to be performed in case of gandadosha. But the above negative effects will accrue only when other supporting yogas are present in the chart. Birth on Abhijit muhurat counters the evill effects as per Sage Vashistha. Also, moon in own vargas and aspected by benefics can ward off the ill effects. So, no need to fear when remedies are here!!!

  4. Nazar dosh and remedies

The concept of “Buri Nazar” (evil eye) is very popular and creates ripples in the mind when any one heard about it. This is transfer of negative energy. When a person constantly think negative about another person or object the negative thoughts accumulated in the mind. This vibrating energy when transfer to another object, then it causes harm to it. For example when a person is affected by evil eye, then his thinking pattern may get disturbed badly. It might cause unexplainable diseases which are unexplain even by the world of medical science. Similarly when an object falls under the effects of evil-eye then it might be damaged. Intrestingly, it is the first gaze of the person which is important. Once it is neutralized , then there is no harm.

Even in china people put a octagonal mirror in front of their houses to prevent the evil effects entering the house. It is called “Shar” in china. On the same concept in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">India</st1:country-region></st1:place> 7 chilies and a lemon is hang on top of the front door. Some of the effective methods of removing the evil eye are as follows

    1) Wave salt over the head of the afflicted person and throw it in the running water.

    2) Use red chilly and repeat the above step, but instead it is thrown in fire.

    3) Hang 7 chilies and a lemon on top of the front door

    4) Apply black spot on the forehead of children, if they are the sufferers

    5) Black pot is hang on top of the house

    6) Black thread is tied below the new vehichle.

    7) Take a bowl of mustard oil and look your image in it. Then burn it outside the house.

    8) Take seven red chilies, rock salt, mustered seeds, a piece of Fitkari and a lemon and put it in a small bag. And rotate the things three times clockwise and three times anticlockwise and ask the sufferers to spit for three times on the bag and throw all the articles at a distant place.

    9) In an alum method , it is rotated 3 times around the affected person and then thrown in fire(But it is very dangerous method from spiritual point of view)

    10) Use coconut and rotate it around the person in odd number and then break it at the cross road.

    11) On the shadow of person place a lamp and put 7 chilles in it.

It is not only the human being responsible for the evil-eye, even animals also cast evil eye to human being. It is beleive that the wife of oil vendor, goldsmith and washerman possess more powers. So, there are many rituals to prevent from the aftermath of evil eye which varies from place to place and religion to religion.

  5. Pitri dosha

This yoga is formed when Rahu and Ketu are with any of the Luminaries and are placed in the 6th, 8th and the 12th house. Many a times, this yoga is also formed in the 5th house and if other planets do not show any beneficial aspects, this yoga does not allow a person to progress at all. There can be hospital stay and / or confinement. It is said that Lord shirk Ramah had a pitru Dosha, As he had Saturn in 4th house while Suryadev in 10th House. (Opposite each other) Regarding Pitru Dosha, Jyotish Ratnaker, Bhav Manjri, Brahad Jatakam, Chintamani, and Parasar Mooni Hora Shastra - Under mentioned is the quote as per BPHS as per sholka 27th “ Langna pancham Bhav Vastha Bhanu/Bhom/Sanicharay Radhre – ri - ke Rahu Jivo Pitru shapat Suta Sharya - “ Meaning 5th House, has Surya/Sanidev/Mars all are present or 8th and 12th house has Presence of Guru/Rahu to gether, than it is considered as As Pitru Dosha Apart from these there is quite a few methods to verify about As Pitru Dosha – probably Person can write a book about it - above is few examples. Any Astrologer should examine the Horoscope (Kundli) in detail before predicting As Pitru Dosha - as per example if Suryadev / Moon and Guru is together in one house than Effect of As Pitru dosha automatically diminishes. (Nust Bhanga) or say it no longer Pitru Dosha Remedies: Prayer Minimum 11 (Eleven) times. As mentioned below. Om Hreem Suryaye Namah or Om Ram Ravaye Namah OR Pray with one Diva (Small light) and Chant Om Mata pitaye Namah. These prayers are simple and cheapest way for Dosha Nivarana. - Although costly method are there – but I prefer the Prayers

  6. <TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD>In the temples of India, the 9 planets are arranged in a cyclical pattern reflecting their positioning in the sky. The Sun is in the middle with other planets rotating around them. The knowledge that the world was round and the Sun was the center of the Solar system was known to the ancients of India long before the Western counterparts of Galileo and Columbus proposed these ideas. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD>sunblog.jpg It was the Maharishis, the Great Seers, who gained keen insight into our solar system and how we as humans are influenced by each planet. They established statue representations of the planets and invoked the energy of the planet into the statue. Through praying to the statue representation of the planet a person was able to more easily establish a connection to the planetary energies and shift their own consciousness and karma. This served to help many humans mitigate their bad karma.

edaikadar.jpg But around 3500 B.C., one the powerful 18 Tamil Siddhas of Southern India by the name of Idaikkadar saw that a devastating drought that had set in was going to last for 12 years, causing untold sorrows and death for the people. Idaikkadar lived in the remote jungles, but he still decided to act on behalf of humanity. By use of his yogic skills he was able to change the directions of how the planets faced each other.

Originally, all the planets were positioned to the face the Sun. However, Idaikkadar saw that the original arrangement would feed the cycle of karmas of an individual. With each planet facing each other and coordinating their efforts, an individual would have a more difficult time breaking the grip of karmas that the planets deliver. In a brilliant move, Idaikkadar used his powers to change the directions of the planets so that no two planets would face each other. In this way, a person who remedies a bad Saturn or bad Mars, would be able to deal one-on-one with the powerful planets, instead of by committee. It is Idaikkadar who is responsible for the modern day arrangement of the planets used in all the temples throughout India. The current arrangement is as follows:

    </TD></TR><TR><TD>

In 2008 the most powerful of seers by name of Brghu requested Sri Dattatreya Siva Baba through a jeeva nadi reading to again rearrange the planets for the benefit of mankind. The siddha Brghu saw that because the planets are still arranged in a circle, karmas will return to an individual again and again as the planets rotate. While you can mitigate a bad karma, the next cycle will bring the same problem.

In October 2008, Dattatreya Siva Baba aligned the planets in a linear fashion, in which the circular nature is broken and the karmas have a much harder time returning to an individual. The planets were organized in the following manner, all of them facing West:

  7. <CENTER>5. Whether Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th is at all harmful</CENTER>

Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th if conjoins with Mars or gets aspects from Mars causes all sorts of violent deaths. Conjunction of Saturn and Mars in violent signs (Aries, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius) is a very dangerous affliction which generally causes violent accidental deaths. I will now explain this phenomenon by example horoscopes: -

    (a) Death by assassination

    Birth-chart: Taurus-Mars and Rahu; Scorpio-Ketu; Sagittarius-Saturn; Capricorn-Sun and Mercury; Aquarius-Venus and the Moon; Aries-Jupiter (Born on 15.1.1929 at 1 p.m.)

This is the horoscope of the American Negro leader of non-violence Dr Martin Luther King who won Nobel peace prize in 1964. He was assassinated on 4.4.1968. Saturn is placed in the 8th aspected by Mars. Conjunction of Mars and Rahu is placed in a violent sign Taurus and in the lagna. These two afflictions caused his violent death. Thus astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th proved to be very evil.

    (b) Death by plane crash.

    Birth-chart: Aries-Ascendant, Mars; Gemini-Ketu; Leo-Jupiter; Virgo-the Moon; Scorpio-Saturn; Capricorn-the Sun, Mercury and Rahu; Aquarius-Venus (Born on 23.1.1897 at 12 p.m.)

This horoscope is of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who died in a plane crash on 18.8.1945. Saturn is placed in the 8th in a violent sign Scorpio aspected by Mars by its 8th aspect. This single affliction caused his violent death.

    © Death by bomb explosion.

    Birth-chart: Sagittarius-Ascendant; Capricorn-Rahu; Aries-Jupiter; Cancer-Ketu and Saturn; Leo-the Moon; Virgo-the Sun and Mercury; Libra-Mars. (Born on 25.9.1916 at 12.30 p.m.)

This is the horoscope of Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyay who died of bomb explosion. Saturn is posited in the 8th along with Ketu. Astama Sani proved to be very dangerous in his life.

    (d) Death by execution.

Birth-chart: Aquarius-Ascendant, Jupiter; Aries-the Moon; Taurus-Rahu; Virgo-Saturn and Mars; Scorpio-the Sun, Venus, Ketu and Mercury. (Born on 15.11.1891 at 12.15 noon)

This is the horoscope of German Field Marshall Erwin Rommell. He tried to assassinate Hitler in a coup-de-etat but failed. He was the executed by Military Court-Marshal. Saturn is placed in the 8th along with Mars aspected by Rahu. Thus astama Sani proved to be very evil in his life.

  8. <CENTER>4. Conjunction of Saturn and Mars in Violent signs causes all sorts of natural disasters</CENTER>

It is true that the conjunction of Saturn and Mars in a violent sign (Aries, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius) causes all sorts of natural disasters like earth quakes, cyclones, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and storms. I will now explain this by examples as under: -

    (a) 26.8.1883. Netherlands rocked; eruption of Krekatoas; violent explosions destroyed two-thirds of the Island; 36000 people died; many buildings collapsed. Saturn and Mars were then conjoined in Taurus, a violent sign. Venus and Mercury conjoined in Cancer.

    (b) 28.10.1891. Mino and Owain Provinces near Nagoya, Japan severely rocked; 7500 people killed; 2 lac houses destroyed; many rendered homeless. Saturn and Mars at that time conjoined in Virgo. Venus and Mercury also conjoined in Libra.

© 12.6.1897. Assam severely jolted; destroyed many buildings; thousands of people killed. At that time Mars was in Leo and Saturn in Scorpio, both aspecting each other.

    (d) 18.4.1906. San Francisco severely jerked; destroyed hundreds of buildings thousands lost their lives. Saturn was in Aquarius and Mars in Aries. Both were placed in violent signs. Saturn had 3rd aspect on Mars. The Sun and Moon conjoined with Saturn in Aquarius.

    (e) 15.12.1916. Kemsu, China severely rocked; great landslides occurred killing lacs of people; many buildings were shaken into pieces; lacs of trees uprooted. Saturn was then in Cancer and Mars in Sagittarius. Mars had 8th aspect over Saturn. Ketu and Saturn conjoined in Cancer.

    (f) 1.9.1923. Tokyo was severely rocked; many buildings destroyed; lacs of people killed; Rahu and Mars then conjoined in Leo – a fiery sign. Saturn and Rahu are identical planets. So this conjunction in a fiery sign Leo gave the worst natural disaster. From the above, you will find that the conjunction of Saturn and Mars in a violent sign causes all sorts of natural calamities.

  9. <CENTER>3. Saturn is the creator of all sorts of historical events</CENTER>

Saturn gets detrimented in Cancer. Its ruler the Moon is a strong enemy of Saturn. When transit Saturn enters into Cancer and stays there for 2 and half years and when conjoins with Mars there, world's most important historic events usually happen during that time.

When Saturn was in Cancer during August 1621 to 1623 conjoining with Mars about July 1622, Emperor Jehangir was then ruling India and lots of wars and mass killings happened during that time. In England, it conjoined with the accession of King James-I. In France, Cardinal Richlew was then the most powerful personality.

When Saturn entered Cancer again in July 1651 conjoined with Mars in August 1652 and entered Leo in Aug. 1653, we found Emperor Aurangzeb forcibly occupied the throne of India by throwing his father Emperor Shahjehan into jail. In England, Cromwell abolished Parliament and England was ruled by military dictatorship. In France, autocracy triumphed.

Saturn again entered Cancer on 19.6.1887 and stayed there till 4.8.1889. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer 21.8.1887. During this period, many important historical events took place. India was then under the British Rule. Dadabhai Naoroji became the President of the Indian National Congress which was established in 1885. Surendra Nath Banerjee joined congress and established 'Indian Association'. Gopal Krishna Gokhale formed 'Servants of India Society'. General Lord Dufferin was then the Viceroy of India (1884 and 1888). Bal Gangadhar Tilak declared 'Swaraj is my birth-right and I will have it'. In Germany, Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm-II died at the age of 91 and his son Fredrick-III became the new Emperor. Russia was then under the emperor Czar Alexander-III. President Cleveland of the U.S. extended the Monroe Plan and mediated the conflict between England and Venezuela.

Saturn entered Cancer on 6.8.1916 and stayed there till 16.9.1918. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer on 2.9.1917. During this period, the First World War was started and took away millions of lives and it destroyed many properties. In India, terrorists started activities under the leadership of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In 1916, Lala Lajpat Rai established 'India Home Rule League' in the United States. Bagha Jatin tried to free India by an armed fight with the British soldiers but failed. Mrs. Annie Besant became the President of Indian National Congress. Viceroy Chelmsford introduced Govt. of India Act and Rowlett Act. There was mass firing at Jaliyanwalla Baag on 13.4.1919. The Mahatma Gandhi started his 'Quit India' movement. President Wilson of the U.S. established the League of Nations in 1917. The Great Russian Revolution also took place in 1917.

In May 1946 Saturn entered Cancer on 10.6.46 and stayed there till Jan. 1948. Mars conjoined with Saturn in Cancer on 22.9.47. During this time three most important historical events occurred in India, viz., India became independent, Pakistan was created and Mahatma Gandhi died of bullet injury on 30.1.48.

In July 1975, Saturn again entered Cancer, stayed there till 26.8.77. In 1976, Smt. Indira Gandhi, the 3rd Prime Minister of India lost her position and power by wrongly declaring the General election. India then came under the Janata Rule. Morarji Desai became the 4th Prime Minister of India.

So transit Saturn when comes in Cancer and conjoins with Mars, most important historical events usually happen.

  10. <CENTER>2. Saturn creates fortunate and unfortunate moments in life</CENTER>

Grant Lewi in his book 'Astrology for the Millions' has found out one most important theory by which you can your best period in life. According to him, Saturn is the planet of fate and destiny. By making research on its transit movements, he came to the conclusion that transit Saturn when travels from 7th to the 10th house (strongest point in the chart) big political leaders assume their maximum powers and earn name and fame during that time. They recede from name and fame when transit Saturn travels from the 1st to the 4th house (weak points in a chart). By the time when transit Saturn comes in the 4th they all fade away completely or death makes their end.

Grant Lewi has applied this theory in the lives of strong men of destiny like Adolf Hitler, Napoleon Bonaparte-1, Kaiser Wilhelm, Benito Mussolini and Marshall Stalin. He found that most of them fade away as soon as transit Saturn entered the 3rd house and when Saturn entered the 4th house, they became practically ruined.

Jyoti Basu, Chief Minister of West Bengal was born on 8.7.1914 at 10.50 a.m. His Lagna is Virgo. In 1976 when general election was held, Saturn was placed in his 11th house. This position of Saturn helped him to win over the election and to become a leader of the left front and to form his ministry.

Netaji Subhash Ch. Bose was born on 23.1.1897 at 12 noon. His lagna is Aries. He became the President of Indian National Congress in 1938 when Saturn was placed in his 12th house. He did not like Gandhiji's non-violent movement. He believed that Swaraj could not be had by non-violent means. He said: 'Give me blood and I will give you freedom'. Thus he escaped from India and went to Germany in disguise in 1940. He formed his new party INA with Japanese aid in 1943 and launched his fight with the British Army. But he died in a plane crash on 18-8-1945 when Saturn was in his 3rd house.

Dr Rajendra Prasad was born on 3-12-1884 at 10.44 a.m. His lagna is Capricorn. He became the first President of India in 1950 when Saturn was transiting in his 10th house. And continued this post up to 1962 when Saturn moved to the first house.

Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, Chief Minister of West Bengal was born on 1.7.1982 at 11.30 a.m. In 1952 he became the Chief Minister of West Bengal when Saturn was transiting in the 8th house. In 1957 he was again re-elected as Chief Minister when Saturn entered his 10th house. This period was his best time during which he did many important changes in West Bengal like (1) Durgapur Steel Plant was established; (2) Kalyani was developed as a model town; (3) Digha was opened as a tourist centre; and (4) Calcutta State Transport Corpn was established and (5) Haringhta Milk Dairy Farm was opened and most of other important works done. But he died of cancer on 1.7.1962 when Saturn entered the first house.

From the above, you will find that transit Saturn when travels from the 7th to the 10th house, the native gets the best fortunate results in his life, but starts fading away when transit Saturn enters his 4th house. But this theory is very effective in the case of political leaders only. In other cases this theory is not so effective.

  11. <CENTER>1. Saturn determines the course of destiny in one's life.</CENTER>

A strong Saturn is absolutely essential in a horoscope to accomplish anything worthwhile, which is why it has been rightly called the planet of destiny, because it appears to be the common denominator in the charts of those who have made their mark in the world. A horoscope with a weak Saturn denotes a weak and colourless person who can't do anything either for himself or for the country.

A detrimented Saturn in a trik house causes permanent physical disability and gives the native too many troubles and hardship in his path of progress. He then fails to rise in life and leads a vegetable existence, which has got no meaning at all. A combust Saturn in an evil house along with Mars causes violent accidental death. Astama Sani i.e. Saturn in the 8th along with Mars or any aspect of Mars to Saturn in the 8th also causes violent accidental death like the case of Netaji Subhas Ch. Bose and Martin Luther King.

A retrograde Saturn in the 5th or 9th makes one a strong personality or a creative genius. A combust Saturn along with Ketu in the 10th makes one a great political leader.

Capricorn is Saturn's home sign where he expresses his best qualities most naturally. Libra is his sign of exaltation and Aries is his sign of fall. Saturn's natural reserve, caution, patience and aptitude for careful planning are at its best in Libra but these same qualities clash with Aries' fire and combativeness. Saturn shows its evil nature most effectively when posited in its detrimented sign Cancer.

Saturn is a strong karmic planet. Saturn actually determines the course of destiny in one's career if posited in a strong angular or a strong trine house and the native then rises very high in life despite hardships, troubles and delay. Saturn brings fortunes late in life. Saturn burns away one's past sins by putting him in trouble and distressed. The most remarkable event happens when the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter is posited in the karmic destiny signs like the 5th or 9th. The 5th house indicates past karmic effects in this life and that is why it is called 'Purva Punya Sthana'. The 9th house shows the future karmic results. The 5th house stands for creative talent and creative self-expression. The 9th house stands for higher intelligence, higher knowledge and higher inner mind. So Saturn expresses its best qualities if conjoins with Jupiter either in the 5th or in the 9th house and the native gets their best benefits. He then rises to the top just like Rabindra Nath Tagore (Jupiter in the 5th); Boris Pasternak (Saturn in the 9th); Edgar Allen Poe (Ketu and Saturn in the 5th); Virginia Wolfe (Saturn and Jupiter in the 5th); John Milton (Jupiter in the 5th); Mark Twain (retrograde Jupiter in the 9th); Satyajit Ray (retrograde Jupiter and retrograde Saturn in the 9th); Lord Byron (Saturn in the 9th) and so on...

SATURN is considered as the most evil but strong planet out of nine planets. Saturn is barren, name, building, cold, dry, defensive, hard, honest, sincere, masculine, earthy, melancholic, nervous and secretive planet. Saturn causes delay. It can even deny the best things of life. It also disappoints. Disharmony, dispute, difficulty, despondency, defection and differences are the outcome of an evil Saturn. Responsibilities, accuracy, precision, perfectness, and definiteness are dignified saturnine qualities. Plodding, perseverance, patiently working, prudence, economy, saving, endurance, industry, thrift, savings, power to keep secrets, stability, self-control, sense of duty, etc. are attributed to a beneficial Saturn.

Saturn is the principle of contraction. It moves things towards stability. It gives the power to save and accumulate wealth. It assists one to acquire landed properties. Saturn gives perfection, precision, sophistication and refinement in every field of activity if posited in angular or trine houses. It rules the solid foundation of things, real estate, permanent buildings and fixed assets. It gives firmness of conviction, prudence, patience, dependability, capacity for hard work and fidelity when dignified. It is the planet of constitutional law. Saturn's influence is heavy, restrictive and lasting.

Saturn governs the dried regions of the body i.e. teeth, bones, knees, spinal cord, nerves, spleen and sense of hearing. It gives chronic diseases like neurotic ailment, nervous disorders, spleen disorders, dental troubles, etc. when afflicted.

Saturn governs the two signs of the Zodiac i.e. Capricorn and Aquarius, the 10th and 11th houses of the natural Zodiac. He is exalted in Libra, debilitated in Aries and detrimented in Cancer and Leo.

Saturn rules elders, debts and repayment, wills and estates, jails, prisons, exile, paper, shoes, stone, legal matters, traditions, the sense of duty, printing, fertilizers, servants, time, limitations, justice, just rewards, old age, old things and the past. Saturn is the Karaka (significator) of the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th houses. Stupidity, dullness, want of originality, dearth of ideas, laziness and idly wasting time are the outcome of ill posited Saturn. Saturn denotes all matters kept hidden or secret, excavation of tunnels, underground trenches and burial ground. Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses from its position. His favourite stone is blue sapphire and his metal is steel. During transit, Saturn stays in one sign for 2 and half years.

Rahu eclipses Sun and is a bitter enemy of Jupiter. Rahu has a natural tendency to eclipse Sun and hide the effulgence of Sun is extreme darkness. This is no wonder that in Rahu-Kala, not only gathering knowledge is next to impossible; but also one is tend to make wrong decisions (shown by the enmity towards “dhi” karaka Jupiter).

  14. Venus is a great tapasvi, and he rules the desire, which goads us to learn. Thus whenever Venus is associated with Saturn (hard work and patience) and Ketu (Mokshakaraka), the native becomes a Tapasvi (someone who undertakes severe austerity and penances to attain siddhi). As opposed to Jupiter, who rules para vidya (knowledge which is used irrespective of whether we are born or not), Venus rules apara vidya (knowledge which is used in this mortal world). Thus Venus signify practical strategies, which help in solving real life problems.

Saturn debilitates Jupiter and hence signifies loss of Memory among other significations. Saturn detaches one’s consciousness or the Mana from accessing the source of knowledge as opposed to Jupiter, which connects the Mana to it. For that matter Saturn is a bitter enemy of the naisargika Atmakaraka, Sun and hence any studies done during Sani Kala is prone to forgetfulness. One should check out, saturn’s influence on the Lagna or the Paka Lagna to understand, how Saturn is playing mischief in making the person forgetting things. If Jupiter is placed with a strong Saturn, then also the person might suffer failure of memory, as with mere association, Saturn can cause debilitation of Jupiter.

  15. Mars signify the ability to break down a complex problem into smaller part and analyze each of them to have a comprehensive understanding of the whole problem and get the solution. As opposed to Jupiter, it doesn’t use intuition, but logical reasoning for solving problem.

Mercury is the planet of skills and signifies the ability to use Language in communication. Strong Mercury shows good communication skills. On one hand, where Jupiter signifies knowledge and wisdom, Mercury signify formal education, i.e., application of intelligence in solving practical problems. This also signifies the learning ability as Mercury represents a child who can be trained in various things. All depends on who is training the child; the child will learn the things indicated by the teacher. If Jupiter is teaching him, no doubt the native becomes knowledgeable and if Moon is the teacher, he becomes passionate, concurring with the trait of Moon. Who is teaching Merc, is learnt from which planet is placed in the trine to it.

  16. Among he supporters of Jupiter, Moon is the most important as he is who exalts the Jupiter. Thus, Moon aids in the manifestation of Jupiter or Dhi, and represent the Mana or consciousness. A strong Mana can only be productive, when it is under the proper guidance of supreme intellect signified by Devaguru Brhaspati.

Sun is the storehouse of all energy as it is the natural significator of the Atma. As discussed above, Atma contains all knowledge, it require only a good Mana and Dhi to access it. This is the source of light, which the Moon (Mana) reflects. Thus an unaffiliated and strong Sun is prerequisite for a native to be a expert in multiple disciplines. As Sunlight contains all colours of light, the ray of light, which a native accesses from Sun, is dependent on the influences on the Sun. This is why the Sun represents the knowledge of Gita, which is a philosophy, which encompasses all form of knowledge and hence has all the colours.

  17. Intelligence is governed by devaguru Jupiter, who is the karaka for Dhi or the supreme intelligence. There are many kind of intelligence, which is important for sustenance in this material world and with the same reasoning; animals are also intelligent, as they also know, how to keep themselves alive. However, the only difference, between an animal and human being is the presence of “Dhi”, or the intelligence for self-development and realization. Who else can govern, such intelligence than the devaguru himself!

The strength of Jupiter lies with guiding the Mana (Moon) in the right direction. This is why in the Kalachakra, or the time cycle, Jupiter is placed opposite to the Moon. No, wonder, on Amavasyas and Purnimas, when the mind gets hyper exited; only Jupiter has the power to put rein on such Mind. Thus on full Moon nights, when the Moon (Mind) is highly activated, Satya-Narayan (Jupiter) vrata is done.

This is pertinent to mention here is that the knowledge is always within us, as we have the same spark of Atma, which is similar to paramatma, the storehouse of all knowledge. The only difference between a normal mortal and a yogic is that one doesn’t know how to access the source and the other knows how to do it. This is why Maharshis could know many things by meditating, through their intuition. The omnipresence and omnipotent characteristics of knowledge (True knowledge- the Vedas) can only be described by the ethereal Jupiter. Jupiter has the extra ordinary power to tap all form of knowledge, comprehensible or incomprehensible.

  18. How do we use this data in predictions?

For simplicity let us take an event date for this native..

Coming to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Natal</st1:place></st1:City> chart itself, we find that Mercury and Venus are in the 64th Navamsa area of Rahu – see calculations!! So the event was waiting to happen!!! Venus being the Sthir karka for spouse and Mercury is the Sthir Karka for friends and relatives. So the spouse was supposed to cheat on the native!!

This can be also confirmed from UL in the chart, UL is in Scorpio while Rahu is in Sagittarius. Rahu’s Drishti on UL is a sign of cheating in relations.

Coming on the event date – both Sun and Saturn are in Cancer, with Sun at 7:23:54, which is in the same quarter as the 64th Navamsa for Rahu calculated earlier. Sun is also the Lord of the 7th house!!!

Easy deduction? The day was destined to be a horrible surprise for the native – he came home to see his wife with some other person!!!

I will leave it upon the student to calculate 64th Navamsa degrees for each planetary body and confirm why this event happened on that particular day??? Sun crosses this point every year, remember??

    Conclusion

Bottom line is calculating 64th Navamsa positions of each planet in a horoscope. Note down the degrees. Next look up at transit position of planets!!! See if any transit planet is in the 8th position from a planet in the Rasi Chart. The event will happen when the Transit planet will cross the 64th Navamsa degrees!!! Please note we did not use ANY DASA system!!! Now sit back and relax, take a good look at your horoscope and find out event dates!!! Next calculate the Kendra and Trinal Positions from 64th Navamsa degrees!!! Some events take place within this frame work too. In my own humble experience of 8 years using this technique I have predicted death, rape, marriage, awards, rewards and many other events!!! I will now leave it to the student to figure it out for him/her.

  19. The Rule is ~ 64th Navamsa of a planet is the 8th house from that planet in Rasi Chart and its Navamsa position would be the 4th house from that planet’s Natal Navamsa (D9) position. Sounds confusing?? Allow me to explain step by step by taking an example horoscope.

    Ketu 7 Aq 42' 40.64" Sata 1 Aq Sg

Next let us apply the rule and find out the 64th Navamsa for each Planetary body and Lagna. For beginners let us take

    A) Lagna ~

Rasi Chart – Lagna is Aquarius – Find the 8th house from this spot – It is Virgo!! ------- a

Navamsa Chart – Locate the Lagna – it is Gemini – Find the fourth house from this spot!! It is Virgo!! ----- b

Applying the 64th Navamsa rule we get the following ~ Lagna’s 64th Navamsa Position will be in Virgo (a) and in Virgo Navamsa (b)!!!

Virgo Navamsa in Virgo is the last Navamsa!!! Please refer rule for Navamsa given above. The degrees will be 26.6666 to 30.0000 (Decimal) or conventional 29:56:40 to 30:00:00

All this is in the Rasi Chart!!

    B) Let us calculate for Rahu

Rasi Chart – Rahu is in Sagittarius – 8th from Sagi is Cancer.

Navamsa Chart – Rahu is in Leo, 4th house from Taurus is Scorpio

Apply Rule – 64th Navamsa position of Rahu will be in Cancer and in Scorpio Navamsa – fair enough?? The relevant degrees will be 96.6666 to 99.9999 Decimals!!!

  20. Kendra positions will be 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees!! Trinal positions will be 0, 120 and 240 degrees. As you can see it is much easier to use Decimals!!! One of the software’s Astrolog gives you decimal degrees, hence my favorite. You will find the download link in appropriate topic on the community. Navamsa divisions in a house – We all know Navamsa is 1/9th division of a house, so each division is 3deg and 20 sec of an arc!! Converted this to decimal each division is 3.3333 degrees!! How to calculate the 64th Navamsa? Different books and authors give different methods of calculating this point; however we will concentrate on the method used for current use. The method described is totally radical and taken from Nadi Shastra’s, so DO NOT CONFUSE THIS METHOD FROM WHAT IS GIVEN BY SOFTWARES!!!

  21. As we all know the Zodiac starts from 0 degrees Aries, so starting of Taurus will be 30 degrees, Gemini will be 90 degrees and so on. Let us for example say Saturn as of today is at 25:56:56 Cancer, it indirectly means that Saturn is at 115:56:56 – this will be from 0 degree Aries!!! Hope the concept is clear. Do we use Decimal degrees? Or do we use deg:min:sec?? Depends on how fast you want to do your calculations!! How? Saturn is right now at 115.949 (note the decimal) degrees!!! Let us now convert this Decimal degree to Deg:Min:Sec value!!! Everybody knows that 1 Degree has 60 Minutes & One Minute has 60 Seconds!!! Next separate the degree in decimals 115.949 to 115.0 and 0.949. Now convert 0.949 to seconds by multiplying it by 60!! We have 56.94!!! Separate this as 56 Minutes and 0.94!! Multiply 0.94 by 60 – we have 56.4 So the Empirical Value of 115.949 is written as 115:56:56 – fair enough? Why have I stressed this point? It is easier to use decimal degrees than conventional deg:min:sec values. This is greatly helpful when you are calculating Kendra positions from a planet and its Trinal positions.

    By Shri Virendra Ji

Normally we are taught to believe the following regarding Kharesh ~

Lord of the 64th Navamsa from Lagna is Kharesh

Lord of the 22nd Drekkana from Lagna is Kharesh.

Some texts mention calculating these points from Moon!! Almost every book asks us to consider this point and the Lord of this Navamsa – Kharesh to look for bad results, but how? In order to get a clear understanding of the subject a little primer on the basics will be mentioned here.

For Chara Rasi (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) – the first Navamsa will be of the same sign and then the next sign. So the first Navamsa in Aries will be Aries, Second Navamsa will be that of Taurus!! For Sthira Rasi (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) – the first Navamsa will be that of the 9th sign. For example the first Navamsa in Taurus will be Capricorn and the second Navamsa will be that of Aquarius. For Dwi-Swabhav Rasi (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) – the first Navamsa will be that of 5th sign. For example the first Navamsa in Gemini will be of Libra, the second Navamsa will be that of Scorpio. The above rules are elementary and a student of Astrology is supposed to know them by heart.

  23. Dear Rajitha ji,

You are absolutely right, This is not my assertion in any way , i picked it up from the other forums ,the authour is from saptrishi astrology team and had a verbal spat with RR ,where RR got the better of him thus this article was abandoned by the authour.

    Regards

    J.s.sandhu

    Sandhuji,

For Gemini Ascendent, you have the following quote.

v Any type of relationship of Saturn (bhagyesh) and Guru (karmesh) the

native can be a failure in life as compared to his original potential.

This is surprising, in general 'cos the combination or relationship between kendra and kona lords is supposed to give you a rajayoga.

However, in my case, I have Jupiter in Aquarius(Saturn's house) in the 9th house retrograde. Also Jupiter is aspecting Saturn in Ascendent with the 5th aspect.

I can say that my life has not turned out to my original potential. I always used to wonder why I don't get the recognition or opportunity based on my potential. However, by God's grace, I won't call my life as a failure either.

So, I guess the above must be seen with additional factors.

  24. Dear RR ji,

Good to see the ant teaching some lessons on thought & context , fellow readers its a privilidge to have this lowly ant as the RR likes to call himself among us because whatever the ant does its realistic and down to earth ,just brace yourself for some honest jyotish opinion.

    Regards

    J.s.sandhu

    Nisha...

Sorry about this insertion by a lowly ant as opposed to the requested comment from experts as you sought. Hopefully a few did arrive in your mail-box.

There is no absolute malefic or perfect benefic!

If you have been an accountant for your entire past life, numbers and ledgers come easily to you and represent benefics in ....at particular example!>

But if you have been an accountant all your life but really wanted to be a violin-virtuoso -- now we have a BIG Challenge and a situation where the violin or music may pose formidably as a CHALLENGE!

MUSIC is not malefic! YOUR wanting to master it MAY BE!

I hope this makes sense? If not, please say so. Some GURUJI may oblige...!
