If I may suggest, as a 16 year old, you need to focus on education and al the things that a 16 yeard old has to do. Put religion/philopsohy, etc out of your mind for now. Since you are dubious, I think this is what you should do. It will clear up your mind, and allow you to focus on your academics, which is very very important. You can always go back to religion some day, when you feel you are ready for it. Cheer

A lot, actually. While prima facie, it appears stupid to do so, if you stop to think about it, these are concepts which are beyond reason and proof. No amount of reasoning and intelligence will help. Thus the 2 options are, accept in toto or reject in toto, but don't hang in between. That is the idea. agyashchAshraddadhAnashcha samshayAtmA vinashyati | nAyam loko asti na paro na sukham samshayAtmanaha || BG 4.40 || In brief, this verse says don't doubt, for it will ruin the person. Cheers

That's easy. Accept everything that has been told to you, in toto, without questioning/thinking/reasoning it out. And bingo ! you will be where these devotees are, for this is how they got there. Hope that was helpful. Good luck !

A few observations, Correction. He did not give the BG to the world, as some neo self-styled Gurus of the 20th century would have people believe. It was given to Arjuna specifically, and 18.67 rules out propoganda gimmicks like distributing free copies of the BG to all and sundry without discrimination. This was certainly not recommended by Krishna anywhere. Not unless he appeared in a secret dream to some Gaudiya Acharya in west bengal, which most people are unaware of. Verse 18.68 follows verse 18.67. It is convenient to introduce 2 other verses in between and they try to show that preaching to all is ok. But unfortunately it is not so. Read them in sequence and the meaning is as clear as can be. Preaching should be based on discrimination and is not something to be given to every T, D & H. The latter is only with the intent of growing the organization and nothing else just like AOL sends free cds of internet software to homes. Irrespective of people willing to admit it or not, there is nothing spiritual about such activites; it is business, all the way. Cheers

This is a brand new definition of Jnani, which I have never heard before. May I know who said this? ( If it is iskcon/Gaudiya, I am not interested, but otherwise I am very curious to know who this Vaishnava is) Thanx

Advanced Military Technology and Mahabharat days

If only Bin laden knew this secret Information ! Those ignorant guys are spending lots of money smuggling in weapons, ammunition and training people to use them, while all that they have to do is to learn to speak sanskrit. After which, they can throw away all the guns, make bows and arrows and invoke different types of weapons in true Mahabharata or Ramayana style. There will be fire on all the 4 ends of the compass, elephants will burst into flames, etc. Beware, chaitanya....this info may fall on the wrong eyes. Let us keep this sanskrit technique a secret. Advanced Military Technology and Mahabharat days

Have you ever seen any just statements about scientists, come forth from a iskcon devotee? Scientists are dumb, good_for_nothing idiots with their "imperfect senses". Instead of simply accepting the stories in the holy books as true, like any person with "good sense" and "perfect senses" will do, they are attempting to rationalize things such as genetics, for instance. Can they possibly get any dumber than this? In brief, a scientist is a rascal and fool number one. Cheers [This message has been edited by shvu (edited 09-17-2001).] -
Yes, that is why there can be no such thing as spiritual progress. It just doesn't make sense. Cheers

According to this verse, there is no such thing as old. Old is a relative term, which needs a start point as reference. If we have no beginning and no end, the question of old and yound doesn't arise. Cheers

Do you have grand children, animesh? I thought you were pretty young. Surprised.

They are all uniformly bogus. Having had some interest in astrology myself, I was following the various predictions since 1989. First they said, calamities will begin in 1996 and will result in the end of the world by 2000. Nothing happened. Now a new set of guys have come up with a new set of dates. The funny thing is although people see that the astrologers predictions do not work, they still don't stop seeing them. They want to hear exciting and promising stuff. The astrologer knows exactly what people want to hear and he goes ahead with his con game. People swallow the astrologers talk and make them rich in the process. It is a case of mutual interdependancy. Both need each other Cheers

Jijaji, Relax dude, there is no cause for panic. Statistically it is more probable that we will get killed by a drunk driver than by a bomb, because that happens more often. If that didn't scare us enough to stay out of the streets, why should this? Besides, death is not something that we can experience. It is also not like I will die, come out of my body and say "Oh my god ! I am dead !!!". So there is nothing to worry about. In the words of Shankara, "Uncertain is the life of man, as raindrops on a lotus leaf". Cheers

This topic has been hot for a couple of days now. Nostradamus wrote in old peotic french. It is so abstract that, it can be interpreted in multiple ways. Wrt to the above prophecy, the number 1654 itself doesn't mean anything. Twin brothers can mean anything, and who is the great leader who has succumbed? The name york is not true either. In brief, this is a hoax running around for the last two days. Cheers

If it is as good, it will certainly be a popular, well-known dish. The simplest way out is to find the Indian name of this dish. By the above description, I can think of quite a few possible names. Now if someone can identify it's indian name, the job is as good as done. Cheers

Perhaps you mean halwa. I have heard that halwas is given as prasadam in iskcon temples. There are plenty of different types of halwas [badam, kesari, carrot, etc]. If you search for halwa recipes, you should be able to find what you are looking for. Cheers

Oh Talasiga...... the questions disappear. Didn't you read the full sentence before? Cheers

He said that only when people went to him and asked him questions. He told them to find out who was asking all the questions and then the questions wqould disappear. Cheers

The same with Ramana. No miracles and no preaching ! He hardly spoke, and whenever he spoke, his speech consisted of terse, monosyllables. He never moved from the hill all his life and yet he is recognized worldwide as a spiritual giant. Cheers
