1. Follow Guru's order, in our case, to preach until our last breath for the pleasure of Sri Guru and Gouranga.
 2. The Manner to Chant the Holy Name Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu continued, "O Svarupa Damodara Gosvami and Ramananda Raya, hear from Me the symptoms of how one should chant the Hare Krsna maha−mantra to awaken very easily one's dormant love for Krsna. <INS>One who thinks himself lower than the grass, who is more tolerant than a tree, and who does not expect personal honor but is always prepared to give all respect to others, can very easily always chant the holy name of the Lord.</INS> These are the symptoms of one who chants the Hare Krsna maha−mantra. Although he is very exalted, he thinks himself lower than the grass on the ground, and like a tree, he tolerates everything in two ways. When a tree is cut down, it does not protest, and even when drying up, it does not ask anyone for water. The tree delivers its fruits, flowers and whatever it possesses to anyone and everyone. It tolerates scorching heat and torrents of rain, yet it still gives shelter to others. Although a Vaisnava is the most exalted person, he is priceless and gives all respect to everyone, knowing everyone to be the resting place of Krsna. If one chants the holy name of Lord Krsna in this manner, he will certainly awaken his dormant love for Krsna's lotus feet." Sri Caitanya−caritamrta Antya−lila 20.20−26
 3. Bush asks Congress to clear way for offshore oil drilling GOP stands for Gas and Oil Party, Democratic congressman says WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush asked Congress on Wednesday to permit drilling for oil in deep water off America's coasts to combat rising oil and gas prices. If President Bush can persuade Congress, more oil rigs like this one off Canada could appear off U.S. shores. "There is no excuse for delay," the president said in a Rose Garden statement. Bush also renewed his demand that Congress allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, clear the way for more refineries and encourage efforts to recover oil from shale in areas such as the Green River Basin of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Bush said that the basin potentially contains more than three times as much recoverable oil as Saudi Arabia's proven reserves and that the high price of oil makes it profitable to extract it. "In the short run, the American economy will continue to rely largely on oil, and that means we need to increase supply here at home," Bush said, adding hat there is no more pressing issue for many Americans than gas prices. Meanwhile, Wednesday at an energy forum in Springfield, Missouri, Sen. John McCain continued his pitch for offshore drilling. "In the short term, this requires more domestic production, especially in the Outer Continental Shelf. We need to encourage production in ways that are consistent with sensible standards of environmental protection. And in states that permit exploration, there must be a sharing of benefits between state and federal governments. But as a matter of fairness to the American people, we must assure affordable fuel for America by increasing domestic production," the presumed Republican presidential nominee said. Oil production cost Here's what the price of a barrel of oil needs to be for different sources of petroleum to be profitably extracted: - Accessible land: $19 - Shallow water: $20-60 - Deep water: $60 - Shale mining: $30-50 - Oil sands: $50-60 Current price per barrel: $134 Sources: U.S. Govt. CERA, Rand, EnCana The White House estimates that there are 18 billion barrels of oil offshore that have not been exploited because of state bans, 10 billion to 12 billion in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and 800 billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Green River Basin. iReport.com: Is drilling the best option? However, much of the U.S. oil is difficult or impossible to extract under current law. As for gas prices, resuming offshore exploration would not be a quick fix. "If we were to drill today, realistically speaking, we should not expect a barrel of oil coming out of this new resource for three years, maybe even five years, so let's not kid ourselves," said Fadel Gheit, oil and gas analyst with Oppenheimer & Co. Equity Capital Markets Division. But it almost certainly would be profitable. Candida Scott, an oil industry researcher at Cambridge Research Associates, said oil needs to be priced at $60 a barrel or more to justify deep-shelf drilling. With oil now selling for $134 a barrel, companies are almost assured of profiting from offshore drilling, Scott said. "For years, the president has pushed Congress to expand our domestic oil supply, but Democrats in Congress have consistently blocked such action," White House press secretary Dana Perino said before Bush spoke. She added, "As with several existing Republican congressional proposals, he wants to work with states to determine where offshore drilling should occur, and also for the federal government to share revenues with the states. The president believes Congress shouldn't waste any more time." Democrats were quick to reject Bush's proposal. "After eight years, President Bush and [Vice President] Dick Cheney have turned the GOP into the Gas and Oil Party. That's the legacy that they are going to leave," said Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts, chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. "The White House has become a ventriloquist for the oil and gas industry, repeating the requests of the oil and gas industry: that they be allowed to destroy the most pristine areas of our country," Markey added. Congressional Democrats introduced a bill last week to compel oil companies to begin utilizing federal land they already lease. "Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres they have already leased from the American people for the purpose of oil and natural gas production," said Sen. Bob Menendez, D-New Jersey. "It is about time they use these resources already at their disposal instead of waiting for more federal handouts and pushing to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or up and down our coasts," he added. Bush's request came a day after McCain issued the same call at a campaign event in Houston, Texas. "We have proven oil reserves of at least 21 billion barrels in the United States," he said. "But a broad federal moratorium stands in the way of energy exploration and production. And I believe it is time for the federal government to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use." He said that lifting the ban could be done "in ways that are consistent with sensible standards of environmental protection." Opponents of offshore drilling say it would harm aquatic ecosystems by eroding wetlands, contaminating the water with chemicals, polluting the air, killing fish and dumping waste. McCain made clear that he favors continuing the ban on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. "Quite rightly, I believe, we confer a special status on some areas of our country that are best left undisturbed. When America set aside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, we called it a 'refuge' for a reason," he said. McCain's plan would let individual states decide whether to explore drilling possibilities. According to his campaign, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama wants to invest $150 billion over the next 10 years to establish a green energy sector, create a national low-carbon fuel standard to ensure that the fuel is more efficient, and invest in clean energies like solar, wind and biodiesel. New drilling already could be in the works 50 miles off the Florida coast -- by Cubans, not Americans, with help from China and other allies. A rich undersea oil field stretches into Cuban waters near the Florida Keys. "The people I represent can't understand how we can possibly let China end up with rights to our oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico because we say we're not going to do it and they say, 'OK, we'll do it, and we'll work with Cuba, if we have to, to do it,' " said U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tennessee. "That's really asinine."

 10. A Blast from the Past BY: SUN STAFF

Jun 17, CANADA (SUN) — Atomic ruins found in Jodphur from millennia ago may be nuclear blast described in Mahabharat. As concerns escalates about potential for the use of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, it's interesting to consider discoveries in our recent history, which indicate that nuclear war on planet earth is not a new phenomenon. Several years ago, a report was issued in the UK's World Island Review about a mysterious discovery in Rajasthan of an ancient city that appears to have been leveled by an atomic blast… many thousands of years ago. A construction team discovered the site while preparing to build a housing development near Jodhpur. According to the report, a heavy layer of radioactive ash was found in a three square mile area around the building site. According to World Island Review, the area concealed "an ancient city where evidence shows an atomic blast dating back thousands of years, from 8,000 to 12,000 years, destroyed most of the buildings and probably a half-million people. One researcher estimates that the nuclear bomb used was about the size of the ones dropped on Japan in 1945," said the newspaper. Soon after the discovery, the area became highly suspect as being the cause of a high rate of birth defects and cancer in the region. "The levels of radiation there have registered so high on investigators' gauges that the Indian government has now cordoned off the region," said the newspaper. Construction was halted while a five member team, led by Lee Hundley, conducted further investigations. The Mahabharata mentions just such an historic blast event, which some believe may be the Rajasthan blast site. Descriptions in the Mahabharata include the following: "…A single projectile charged with all the power in the Universe... an incandescent column of smoke and flame as bright as 10,000 suns rose in all its splendor...it was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes an entire race. The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable. Their hair and nails fell out, pottery broke without any apparent cause, and the birds turned white. After a few hours, all foodstuffs were infected. To escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves into the river." Archeologist Francis Taylor told the World Island Review that he had translated some of the etchings in nearby temples, which suggest that the local devotees prayed to be spared from the great light that was coming to lay ruin to the city. Taylor remarked, "It's so mind boggling to imagine that some civilization had nuclear technology before we did. The radioactive ash adds credibility to the ancient Indian records that describe atomic warfare." Of course, students of the Vedic literatures known that all manner of technologies were previously manifest on the earth planet, and in fact were far more advanced than the perverted reflections known to us today. Indian historian Kisari Mohan Ganguli commented that the Vedic writings are full of such descriptions, which sound like the atomic blast experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He says references mention fighting sky chariots and 'final weapons', which are described as part of an ancient battle narrated in the Drona Parva section of Mahabharata. "The passage tells of combat where explosions of final weapons decimate entire armies, causing crowds of warriors with steeds and elephants and weapons to be carried away as if they were dry leaves of trees," says Ganguli. "Instead of mushroom clouds, the writer describes a perpendicular explosion with its billowing smoke clouds as consecutive openings of giant parasols. There are comments about the contamination of food and people's hair falling out." The architect of the modern atomic bomb who was in charge of the Manhattan Project, Robert Oppenheimer, was asked by a student after the Manhattan explosion, “How do you feel after having exploded the first atomic bomb on earth?” Oppenheimer’s reply to the question was, “Not the first atomic bomb, but the first atomic bomb in modern times”. Oppenheimer strongly believed that nuclear weapons were used in ancient India, and he based this conclusion on accurate descriptions of such weapons found in the Mahabharata. He believed that the ancient Vedic weaponry mentioned in Mahabharata matched the modern nuclear weapons he was involved in developing. In the following video clip, Oppenheimer discusses the devastation caused by nuclear blast, referring to Sri Krsna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

 11. In reality both Gaura-Nitai and Gaura-Gadadhara are worshipped by the pure devotees. gadadhara-devera sankalpa ei-rupa nityananda-nindakera na dekhena mukha This is the vow of Gadadhara: he would never see the face of one who offends Nityananda. nityananda-svarupere priti yara nani dekha o na dena tare pandita-gosai Gadadhara Pandita would avoid being seen by anyone who has no love for Nityananda Svarupa. ( Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya 124-125) gadadhara subha-drsti karena yahare se janite pare nityananda-svarupere Whoever receives the merciful glance of Gadadhara can know Nityananda Svarupa. nityananda-svarupo yahare prita mane laoyayena gadadhara jane se-i jane And whoever Nityananda is pleased with can know Sri Gadadhara. ( Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya 7, 161-162) ------------------------- Disciple : How are we seen by the sadhu? By our service? Guru : Yes. The sadhu is the seer. If he showers his mercy upon you, he sees you. If you receive that merciful glance then you are very fortunate. However, you are in the category of one who is in bodily consciousness. How can you receive it? The spiritual master is the manifestation of the Supersoul, caitya-guru, who is in the heart. He manifests a body and he appears. He knows your heart.
 12. Embodied Guru Necessity Why is there an abolute necessity for an 'embodied guru' who will tell me what to do? Who I become accountable to and who will reprimand me and perhaps expose me as a fraudster? Who will give me clear instructions on what my life-time service is to the cause of Sri Guru and Gouranga? Or why do I need a stand-in 'monitor' guru, especially when the Sampradaya Acarya Srila Prabhupada has left 'everthing in his books'?

 14. Japa Group : NASTYEVA! NASTYEVA! NASTYEVA! Some time ago I read a very nice book entitled: "Legacy of Love: A Servant's Quest", that speaks about the life of a very wonderful devotee of Lord Krishna named Hladini devi dasi, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. I found the following letter from her to be really inspirational: ------ I received your wonderful letter it was so nice to hear from you. But I am going to VERY INFATICALLY AND LOUDLY PROCLAIM ... NASTYEVA! NASTYEVA! NASTYEVA! There's NOTHING more important than chanting those rounds VERY DEEPLY! So many wonderful devotees became prey to illusion simply because they let down their guard. If you maintain 16 rounds and the regulative principles you are completely protected by Guru and Krishna, but any lack is most dangerous. It's like coming to Africa with no vaccinations! (This place is HEAVY DUTY). All our Enthusiasm, Determination and Patience and Perseverance is in those glorious Names. Don't chant inattentively. The earlier you chant the sweeter it is- no static in the air. It's like tuning a radio, there's one fine point without any static. So we have to practice and search for Krishna in His name. Ultimately it's not a mechanical method. When Krishna is pleased by your struggle and perseverance to contact Him He reveals. This process is SO PERSONAL. Krishna wants to give us everything but we are so slow. That's why association is everything. You must BECOME the association. One small candle can burn down an entire fortress. One enthusiastic devotee can inspire masses. This process is so powerful, so dynamic, but the devotees aren't going deep into it. Then when Maya comes with her army of obstacles and allurements there is no higher taste to combat. Letter from Hladini to Yamuna, February 23, 1989
 15. The Reprehensible Delusions of Guruship The Vaishnava teacher who gave these cautionary instructions for gurus wrote many important works on the practise of bhakti. When the sacred town of Sri Rangam was being attacked by Mogul invaders, who eventually slaughtered 12,000 people, he made a daring plan to escape with the utsava murti of Ranganatha (smaller deities above). - The Reprehensible Delusions of Guruship - it is from a mediaeval south Indian saint and guru, in this case Sri Pillai Lokacarya (1217-1323). Pillai Lokacharya has described in Srivachana Bhushan (308 - 310) three reprehensible delusions which must be avoided by the guru at all costs. These are:- 1. The delusions of ‘preceptorship’ - thinking of oneself as the preceptor - a guru should think of himself as simply a conduit of the Lord’s Grace and not as a teacher of sacred lore, this awareness prevents the guru from developing the egotistical notion of being a great and learned person and having custodianship of spiritual knowledge. 2. The delusions about the role of the disciple - thinking of the disciple as one’s own personal adherent - the disciple should rather be thought of as a co-disciple of the same acharya. Thus the guru avoids the potential for exploitation inherent in the relationship. 3. The delusions arising from the process of instruction of a sisya - these are of four categories:- a. seeking to gain financially from the disciple, either by tuition fees or dakshina. b. the delusion that one is actually facilitating the liberation of the disciple. c. the delusion that one is assisting the Lord in his salvific agenda. d. seeking or expecting social companionship or service from disciples.
 16. There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man. The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. -- Hindu proverb Find fault with your own self, introspect, pay attention to your owm damn mind. Unless you are the guru, parent or appointed teacher, why would you go out of your way to find fault in any one else, save and except if you want 'to show him up' by being so-called superior, or if you are competing and thus trying 'to drag the other persons down' in order 'to prop youir self up'. This is the nasty business of chronic materialistic conciousness due to malice, spite and enviousness. The Bhagavata is not meant for such people.
 17.
The Correct Angle of Vision by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura Prabhupada (This is a reproduction of a conversation with Major Rana N. J. Bahadur at Armadale, Darjeeling on June 14th, 1935. It was originally published in The Harmonist (Vol. XXXI, No.21) on the 27th of June, 1935.) Question: I cannot understand this world. Answer: It is camp life. This world is not our original abode. It is meant for certain purposes. After that we are to proceed to our original home. This world is not a desirable place. It is not good to be enticed to stay here for a long time, forgetting our original abode. We stay there with Godhead. We are the eternal servants of Godhead. When we decide to lord it over the universe we are allowed these facilities for temporary purposes. They do not serve our eternal purposes. It would be better to seek for a place where we can find the real peace. Here we are always liable to be disturbed. By these disturbances Providence wants to teach us that world is not our eternal habitation, but that all real peace is to be found in Him. Being thus troubled we would naturally like to go back to the original place. Life in this world should be conducted peacefully instead of in the spirit of retaliation. We should learn to suffer all these things by submitting to His Holy Wishes. If we do so we may have that very peace here. It is because we are ambitious to dominate that we are brought here. Conditions here are so that they dovetail the whole position. If we require more than we are allowed, we are in trouble. We should better go back into our own position, to our only Friend. He is the only Resort of all our needs and desires. But if we take the burden upon ourselves to run into wrong we run into troubles in the shape of our daily transactions. We should not be so tempted. The aesthetic culturer's offers are meant to delude us when they lead us to think this world to be a comfortable place. All real improvement should lead to Godhead. It should give us all useful things by which to get rid of these temptations. As we are men we should lend our ears to know about the better situation of the transcendental world where the best aspects of the Reality are exhibited. Here we suffer from the difficulties of our eclipsed vision. It is, therefore, better to look after that region where all sorts of manifestive Nature are in vogue. The servitors of Godhead will always look to our interest. Here our friends sometimes like us and sometimes they turn against us. But here there is opportunity of hearing about our original home from the lips of persons who are quite familiar with the same. If we neglect the opportunity we shall repent in the long run. Their words will lift us and change our mentality. All sorts of puzzling questions will be solved if only we give our lending ear to those persons who have very little to do with this world. Our situations in this world are liable to change like fogs and mists. As intelligent men our prudent nature should manage sometimes to hear of the transcendental world and the manifestive nature, instead of being unaccountably diffident. Such incredulous attitude will not give us the opportunity. This external body will be changed and also our present situations. But we have got a transcendental frame. As soon as we will learn that the transcendental frame is working in us, this mortal coil will cease to trouble. The people of the West think that the mind is the soul. We differ from them. There exists an ample Indian literature in support of the view that the soul is the proprietor of the mind. The mind is the proxy of the soul to deal with the external world in five different relations as husband and spouse, master and servant, parent and child, as friend and as neutral. The soul is now enwrapped by some other foreign agency. Body is different from apparel. The soul is enwrapped by the gross and subtle material bodies. They are meant for the use of the soul for a certain period. When the true activity is latented the mind acts with the impetus of the senses alone, covering the soul by the material molecular substances. But the soul is the real entity. The senses are the working things, some of them for external and some for internal use. Grossness has an attraction for the ordinary run of people. It is meant for such people. Even the so-called philosophers are found to to the slogan that the gross material body should have the preference in all religious affairs of this world (sariram adhyam kalu dharma sadhanam). They are very busy with the gross and subtle material things, ignoring the very health of the soul. The material things will change. This change sometimes gives us facilities and sometimes hinders our progress. But the soul does not change and cannot be destroyed, although he is susceptible of being covered up by the subtle or abstract form of material grossness in the shape of our passing mentality which is a gift of Maya. She has given us the senses to measure the pleasing things for selfish aggrandisement. Religious people think they need not gratify the senses which are meant to delude only. As for instance we are liable to be deluded if we suppose the air of the atmosphere to be meant for our enjoyment or for the purpose of giving us temporary pleasures. That very opportunity will be taken away to let us know that is is not meant for our good. We are liable to be troubled by these impeding agents. Their number will show us that they are more numerous than the things that can give us bliss, the only thing that should be sought. The whole ecstatic centre is in Godhead. All pleasing sensation of this world, if properly judged, is found to hold for temporal purposes only, in order to have our fruits later on. It is the training plane. On this plane we are liable to suppose that everything is meant to serve us. But the real truth is that we are to serve Godhead in the five different capacities. It is only when we deem it fit to come down to this world to lord it over other finite entities for our enjoyment that our real position happens to be forgot to some extent. This contingency arises when we want to deprive our Lord. That tendency was innate with us. It led us to prefer this temporal region by our own desire. These entanglements will be slowly removed when the true suggestions will come to us on our meeting with persons who are cognisant of our interest. Optimistic people are apt to avoid such apparently pessimistic thoughts. They prefer to run into the troubles. But we should have the only Resort in the Absolute. Aural reception is the only track that we should follow. We should be prepared to hear how we can live a peaceful life and aspire after eternal bliss from the Absolute who can give it. Unless we submit to Him there is no possibility of getting to the Eternal Region. If we do otherwise we would be multiplying speculations that will only be checks. Instead of posing as the predominating agent we should pose as predominated agents in order to serve Godhead Who is the Source of all manifestive things; and all activities should tend to Him without hoping for any commercial return. We are Philistians averse to theological thought. We are for making money, earning fame and enjoying pleasures. This is the natural inclination here. All this non-Absolute propaganda is due to aversion to the service of the Absolute. We should, therefore, lend our ear to the descriptions of Transcendence in order to be able to understand how to get the true fruit of the soul instead of being misled by the mind. The mind is the proxy of the soul. He is always on the look-out for aggrandising his own interest at the expense of the principal if the latter thinks to pass his days in indolence, when he will be naturally deluded by the mind. The slumbering soul requires to be roused up. The best use of our intelligence, foresight, desirability, should be to make progress towards the eternal life. Temporal pleasures are bound to trouble us in the long run.
 18. THE BAD DESIRE TO BE GURU SRILA BHAKTISIDDHANTA SARASWATI THAKUR PRABHUPADA "It is my Gurudeva who is graciously present in all different forms. If he were not graciously present in all of these different forms then who would preserve me? Those whom my Gurudeva made his own are my saviors. But may I never have occasion to see the face of that wicked person, who is a source of evil, who maligns the lotus feet of my Sri Gurudeva or who countenances in any way such a slanderer. The moment I fall away from the lotus feet of Sri Guru or forget them, I certainly fall away from the truth. As soon as I fall away from the lotus feet of Sri Guru I find myself encompassed by innumerable wants. I run in a hurry for my bath. I become busy for preventing a cold. I run after other occupations different from the service of Sri Gurudeva. It is the lotus feet of Sri Gurudeva that alone protect me constantly from all this attachment for objects other than the truth. If I do not remember the lotus feet of Sri Guru at the beginning of every new year, every new month, every new day, and every new moment, then I am sure to fall into far greater inconveniences. If I do not remember his lotus feet then the desire will come to dress myself in the garb of the guru. I will become liable to the bad desire of seeking to be worshipped by other people as guru. It is this which constitutes addiction to things other than the truth."

 20. Srila Prabhupada on Chanting Hare KRSNA Maha Mantra : "But there is no doubt that chanting takes one immediately to the spiritual platform, and one shows the first symptom of this in the urge to dance along with the chanting of the mantra. We have seen this practically. Even a child can take part in the chanting and dancing. Of course, for one who is too entangled in material life, it takes a little more time, but even such a materially engrossed man is raised to the spiritual platform very quickly. When the mantra is chanted by a pure devotee of the Lord in love, it has the greatest efficacy on the hearers, and as such this chanting should be heard from the lips of pure devotee of the Lord, so that immediate effects can be achieved." "Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is the easiest process of meditation in this age. As soon as one chants the Hare Krishna mantra, he sees the forms of Krishna, Rama and their energies and this is the perfect stage of trance. One should not artificially try to see the form of the Lord while chanting Hare Krishna but when the chanting is performed offenselessly the Lord will automatically reveal Himself to the view of the chanter. The chanter therefore has to concentrate on hearing the vibration and without extra effort on His part the Lord will appear automatically."

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna

Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
