zveta-varNaM yadA mUtraM, raktaM budbuda saMyuktam ||53||"

jAyate nA'tra saNdeho, dhruvaM daNta-viSasya vai |

If urine whitish with red bubbles, diagnosis undoubtedly danta-viSa (tooth poisoning).

pItaM tathoparicchAyaM, kRSNa-budbuda-saMyuktam ||54||

mUtraM prasuti doSeNa, dhruvaM jneyaM bhiSaktamaiH |

If urine colour's yellow with black bubbles, then patient sans doubt suffers prasuti doSa (post-partum infection)

toya-varNaM yadA mUtraM, pAtre xiptaM ca tat-xaNAt |

taila-varNaM yadi bhavet, tadA yAti yamAlayam ||56||

If original urine color is water-like, yet instantaneously changes to oil colour when kept in pot, then patient succumbs to death.

If urine is yellow with bubbles like oil, then patient certainly succumbs to Death.

pUrvAzAM vardhate vindur, acirAt sukha medhate

daxinAzAM jvaro jneyas, tathA rogyaM kramAd bhavet

If oil dropped over urine surface immediately spreads eastward, then patient will recover.

If dropped oil spreads southward, then patient suffers from jvara (fever) & will gradually recover.

ArogyaM ca tadA nUnaM puruSya na saMsayaH |"

If & when oil drop spreads northerly, then patient undoubtedly recovers.

"aizAnyAM vardhate vindur, dhruvaM mAsena nazyati ||60||

AgneyaM ca tathA jneyaM, nairRtyAM prasared yadA |

chidritaM ca bhaved pazcAt, dhruvaM maraNa hetave ||61||

If oil drop spreads toward Agni [southeast] or NairRta[southwest], if holes appear in it, then patient certainly succumbs to death.

tarate majjate vinduH, bhramate ca mumUrzutAM ||62||

"na jIvati dhruvaM rogI, yathA sarvAnga bhAziNe |"

Oil drop sometimes floats, sometimes sinks & sometimes moves in moribund's urine. Such patient never survives. (sarvAnga bhAziNe implication unclear)

All limbs (sarvAnga) speak (bhASiNe) tell it like it is = indicate death.

vikAsitaM halam kUrmaM, sauribhAkAra saMyutam ||63||

kArambhaM maNDalaM cApi, zirohInaM naraM tathA |

gAtra-khaNDaM ca zankhaM ca, khangaM muzalapattizam ||64||

zaraM ca lakuTaM caiva, tayaiva tricatuH patham |

vindu-rUpaM miSag dRSTvA, na kurvota kriyAM kvacit ||65||

If spreading oil drop takes shape of hala = plough, kUrma = tortoise; sauribha?, kArambha?, maNDala = circle, headless man, human body portion, conchshell, sword, pestle & mortar, arrow, stick, crossing of 3-4 roads or drop, then physician should not attempt such patients' treatment.

haMsa-kAraNDa tAdAgaM, kamalaM gaja-cAmaram |

chatraM ca toraNaM hamyaM, sampUrNaM dRzyate yadi ||66||

ArogyatA dhruvaM jneyA, tadA kuryAt prati kriyAm |

If spreading oil-drop shapes into swan, kAraNDa, pond, lotus, elephant, chAmara = yaktail whisk, umbrella, toraNa (gate) & palatial building in complete form, then patient is certainly cured, ergo should be treated.

kuxa-doSaM dhruvaM jneyaM, preta-doSa samudbhavam |

If spreading oil-drop takes callani (sieve) shape, then diagnosis is kuxa-doSa (bellyache) /images/graemlins/frown.gif afflicted by /images/graemlins/crazy.gif pretas.

"trikoNe zAkiNI doSaM, gotra-doSa samudbhavam |"

If spreading oil takes triangle shape, then affliction is zAkiNI or gotra doSa (fault of the clan).

zAkinI = field planted with vegetables or potherbs

bhUta-doSaM vijAnIyAd, bhUta-vidyAM samArabhet |

If spreading oi takes human shape or 2 heads, then patient suffers from evil spirit affliction. In such cases, physician should take necessary steps to correct evil spirits.

If stream is white or big or yellow, then diagnosis: acute fever.

If stream is red, then disease is chronic.

If stream is black, then patient succumbs to death.

sarUxA dhUmra-varNA ca, saraudrA ca tathA cala |

jvalA cAbhyantare netre, vAta vyAdhir vinir dizet ||87||

If eyes are dry, smoky, fierceful, if eyeball is mobile & if eye feels burning sensation within, then person suffers from disease called vAyu.

haridrA-khaNDa saNkAzaM, raktaM nIlaM ca varNakam |

dIpa-dvezi ca saNtaptaM, pitte netraM prakupyati ||88||

If eye is like turmeric piece, if its colour is red or blue, if lamp's sight is undesireable & if there's burning sensation, then pitta is aggravated.

jalArdraM vihvalaM zvetaM, jyotir-hInaM calAnvitam |

manda dRSTir bhaved yasya, sa jneyaH kapha-doSataH ||89||

Watery eyes, anxious look, white colour, no glaze, eyeballs moving, eyesight weak... indicate aggravated kapha.

zyAmaM nirbhugna saMjAtaH, taN drAmoha samAnvitam |

saraudraM rakta-varNa ca, bhavec caxus tri-doSataH ||90||

If all 3 doSas r aggravated, then eye colour will be bluish black, with fixed look, drowsiness accompanied by unconsciousness, eye will look fierceful & reddish.

Hos can eye be both bluish-black & red a la fois?

caxus = chaksu = eye
