animesh, actually what you wrote has everything to do with the topic. As Jayaradhe has pointed out it is all Krishna's artistry.

Every waking moment as you described can be filled with appreciation of Krisna within everything.

Also in storms.I love thunder and lightning storms.Lightening bolts across the sky..WOW indeed!

Actually I feel that children should be shown the beauty of nature. They should be shown trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, stars, moon, clouds etc.

CLARIFICATION: By reading the above, please do not think that I have got any experience in raising children. I am single. Posted Image

Yes,animesh, you are right, the children should be bathed in nature as much as possible. They already live in little magical worlds, let them connect it up to the wide world of nature and learn to appreciate their Mother/Father God as the substance and source and love Them for it.

And we should retain that sense of wonder throughout the whole of our lives. The world remains magic but we are conditioned to forget.

Krishna consciousness is a remembering process, a way to regain the souls natural appreciation of that Greatest Magician, Krishna in everything.

Yesterday I asked my friend who lives in the downstairs half of this house for a suggestion for her boy's sixth birthday tomorrow, knowing I don't have time, what with moving in, to really get down into some creative project with him. She said he would love it if I took him for a walk to the nursery and let him pick out a succulent, which he has been very attracted to lately. I just love the simplicity of this sweet child, and felt like sharing his fresh appreciation of Krsna's creation. Even though he doesn't really know about God as Krsna much (not yet anyway, heh heh), His beauty certainly has a universal attraction.

This is exactly what is done in the Rishi valley school, founded by JK. There is one in bangalore and one in hyderabad, if I am right. There may be a few more in other places too. Very expensive.

Cheers

Rudolf Steiner schools also emphasize this. My friend downstairs has strong affiliations with this thought. I don't think it is necessarily theistic though.

I often feel sorry for kids who live in the inner city of our country. They have no access to nature. I myself rarely get out. But for them, they are cut off in a concrete jungle. I think nature excursions in school are a great way of teaching children and giving them some peace to learn.

Since the learning process has been brought up...

I think the entire system of modern education is very shallow and artificial. You are basically just expected to memorize and repeat whatever is shown to you. There is practically no concern for the individuals personal nature. There is a standard syllabus that is given to everyone.

From a traditional vedic perspective, the students are trained according to their nature. If someone likes music, he should be given more freedom to explore music. If someone likes art, he should be allowed to immerse himself in art.

When you have an education system centered around an individual, that person is more likely to enjoy the process of learning - and not see it as an intrusion into his life.

But for such a system, you need loving teachers, or gurus; which just don't exist in the western society. When teachers work for money, the system of education becomes corrupted.

But how can a teacher work without being paid? It requires a loving and respecting community. Thats another thing that doesn't exist in western society (nor modern indian scoiety for that matter).

One small answer to that is charter schools. My daughter is homescooled and sees her education specialist (ES) theoretcially every twenty days but in reality less often. I am technically the teacher (had to relearn some algebra to help her out but now we're getting a tutor next time). The deal is, the state pays for the tutors, books, whatever is needed, and the ES helps the child choose what she wants to take each semester. My daughter was able to order lots of art supplies, paints and canvases (taking the financial burden off me as that is one area I don't hold back on for her) in addition to the text books and all. If she had accepted the offer to be an honor student this fall she would have been given a laptop computer and opportunites like going to other countries and stuff. She declined as it is also a lot of work for her as it is. So the drawback is, in the past year or so the charter schools, at least in California, have changed dramatically; the state has taken more control, against the wishes and philosophy of the parents, the students, and the educators, so there are stricter and less personal guidelines including more paperwork involved. The good thing though remains that the employess in this system, like our own ES, care avidly about education tailored for the individual, and find ways to take some of the bureaucratic pressure off too, as the encourage the child in his or her own ways. My daughtter wlaks a lot so this covers P.E. She can choose her own areas of study like focusing on the Rainbow Family, and the use of hemp as an environmentally friendly practice, etc. She can paint or sew or make a didgeridoo, as she does in her natural life anyway, and this all counts.

So charter schools may be an answer or compromise for those who are unable to take the full financial and teaching burden of homeschooling, and for those who want their child to receive more personalism than the ordinary public schools provide.

your servant,

Jayaradhe

vanakam,

I've read the article 'Is there such a thing as Universal beauty?' i think it does. In my opinion universal beauty is not based on physical attractions. It based on serenity & purenes of one's heart, mind & soul. The love ;to all living creatures is pure. It is the thing that all religions trying to teach us. But we as a human being kill the love (especialy to god) & declare war & animiosity between religions. What we don't realise is we all are catagorized as HUMAN. The universal beauty can be seen when there is peace and love in each human being's heart.
