Guest guest Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Hi Catherine That sounds good. I cannot remember what cake I had but it was nice, and I had a tea with soya milk. We also bought a vegan Christmas pudding that was being 'demonstrated' in the shop - with free tasting. Guest guest Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Hi Catherine World Cafe is still in Neals Yard - and the food is delicious. It would be good to meet for lunch - unfortunately I usually work full-time - I'm off with a really bad cold and cough today. Guest guest Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Hey Lisa, those crumbles are great for chili and tacos )) Tim and Lisa Rider [successrider2003] Tuesday, May 04, 2004 11:36 AM Veg-Recipes New to the Group Hello, My name is Lisa, I just found this group. My husband and I are considering a vegitarian diet. We are interested in incorporating soy into our meals and are looking for some great tasting recipes. Right now we eat alot of vegetables and not very much meat and are considering just giving it up especially after reading an article about all the junk they inject into the animals. We drink soy milk , we just tried soy cheese and I'm making veggie spegetti tonight. I bought some of those morning star crumbles that I'm going to use intead of meat and I'm going to add sqaush, zucc, mush, bell pep, onion and garlic. I also found a Organic speggetti sauce. I'll let you know how it turns out. I look forward to posting to this group and finding some great recipes. Guest guest Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Hi there~ I am pretty new myself, and not 100%. I do 6 days of 100% and then one day of cooked foods. Even with that I feel wonderful. I can only imagine what it will feel like with that last day of cooked gone. I began by doing it 100% for 40 days. I remember thinking " wow. all you really need to do is just 'do it " . That was so true for me. There were days when I was having the same thing every day, but there was a kind of liberation from food in that too. It was very freeing. Then I would try a recipe and switch over to that for awhile. Or just try to listen to what my body was wanting, and go with that. In doing the one day a week cooked thing I can say conclusively that raw foods tastes so much better now than cooked, and is so much more fulfilling. Guest guest Report post Posted May 11, 2004 How does someone have the mental strength to be less than 100% raw and not 100% anything goes? Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Juliano's book is the hardest bunch of recipes out there... most recipes refer you to other pages with other recipes... It's hard to see the full extent of stuff in that book. I'd go with Eating Without Heating, or Vibrant Living, or Hooked on Raw: almost any book is easier to start with than Juliano's (which was my first raw book, too.) Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 If I can fit it into some sort of understandable pattern, then I can follow it. Only cooked on Sun. If I tried to stray on a Mon or Tues for example I think it would be all downhill from there. Cooked is tasting more and more like " Lack " . Dont get me wrong.... its *good* tasting, but its like a bottomless pit. There is an almost tangible ending point in a meal that is raw. I really really hope that I get to a place where I dont want that one day a week. But I feel its a part of my progress and journey. Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Eating over emotions is something I would believe we all suffer from. Definitely, eating other than raw, I know I'm a compulsive overeater. A bottomless pit as you say. But even raw, I can tell I go to comfort raw foods like avocados, bananas, dates or raw nuts for example, and eat more than I need for needed nutrition. But that's ok for now. Rich New Forum: www.rawfoodeaters
Guest guest Report post Posted June 16, 2004 Hi Amber Welcome to the group. I'm still trying to transition but I can certainly understand your situation. I get critisized a lot as well and it used to really really bother me but doesn't so much in the last couple of months. It seems that a lot of people in the medical field look down on the vegetarian lifestyle. My aunt is a nurse and a good friend of mine is a dietitcian (sp?) and both have gripped at me when they observe me not eating meat. My mother also goes out of her way to make things uncomfortable as well. She has a reccent habit of just telling everyone in the world that I am trying to be a vegetarian and it always leads to that person goinging on and on and on about what a bad idea it is and how you need meat. I try not to be super annoyed but it's hard sometimes when everybody and their brother want to give their un-asked for opinions on your diet. ~Leia , " Amber " <your_babes_is_here2003> wrote: > Hi group, > > Just wanted to say hello and thanks to the moderator for the > invite. it couldnt have come at a better time. i just recently > (February) made the decision to change my eating habits to > veegetarian and let me tell you something. i have never been > subjected to so much criticism before. you dont realize how closely > people are watching you, until you do something out of the ordinary, > out of the norm. > > i was somewhat bothered by a comment that a nurse in our unit made > to me. i wanted to speak with someone about it, but didnt have > anyone to turn to. > > --Amber

Guest guest Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Hi, I am also new to this group and you are the first mail I received. I am looking forward to learning more about raw food. I am a chinese and we have always believe that we should cook our food before eating. I have always been interest in how to keep oneself in good health and also the kind of food that one should consume. I am slowly diverting cooked food to raw ones. I love brinjals, can anyone advise me whether it can be taken raw? Thanks and god bless, emily. nutritionistrd <Nutritionist4U wrote: Hello I am new to this group, I am very excited to be able to be a part of the raw foods group. Guest guest Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Hi Emily! Are brinjals also called aubergines or eggplant? If so I have to say I haven't tried them raw yet - but I expect you could marinate thin slices or make brinjal 'pasta' with a spiral slicer (also known as a saladacco). It's strange that so many people believe you HAVE to cook food before eating, when no other living thing on the entire planet cooks food at all! I used to be on a macrobiotic diet with chinese overtones (the chang ming diet) and I feel so much better on raw food than on the chang ming. I guess just make sure you have a wide variety of foods - vegetables and salads, fruit, nuts, oils, seeds - and you'll be fine. You might get a few detoxification symptoms at first (spots, headaches, digestive discomfort, irritability), but DON'T let that put you off! Good luck!
