If he could convince me that it's not about oil, getting people's minds off

the lousy economy, and pumping up his ego, I might believe you. And I'd

rather have a president in bed with a young woman than with corrupt

corporations.

As for Al Gore, well, let's say he'd won. He wouldn't have taken a

month-long vacation in August 2001 the way our Slacker-in-Chief did, and

9/11 might not have happened. Of course, if it did, do you think people

would be rallying around him the way they did the Simpleton? No, they'd be

livid he let this happen. He'd be booed off every stage, a pariah,

essentially.

Do you know HOW Iraq got this stuff? Courtesy of our government in the

1980s. Dick Cheney's Halliburton was buddy-buddy with Iran in the late

1990s. Clinton's financial misdeeds are a drop in the bucket compared to

the misdeeds of Bush and his Oil Cabinet. He's Warren Harding without the

sex drive and U.S. Grant without the war background.

And what about North Korea--they already have the stuff we think Iraq has.

Of course, we don't care cause they don't have OIL.

People are on to him; I saw a headline in USA Today saying his poll ratings

are dropping. I think they were artificially high to begin with. Any mud

you wanna toss at Clinton will stick even harder on the Bushies.

Hey, he's hardly the first president--or politician for that matter--to

cheat on his wife. Even Daddy Bush is rumored to have had a mistress; a

staffer, I might add. Politicians who remain faithful to their spouses (or

single ones who don't " borrow " someone else's spouse) are few and far

between.

And the guys who came down hardest on Clinton for his affairs were the ones

cheating on and leaving their wives--didja notice?

They kick us outta hospitals in the US as quick as possible. One

reason I am sure is new advancements in medical procedures

but the real reason is insurance - it only pays fer so long and then

out you go no matter what!

Maybe so - but the point is that if he's going to lie to people he claims to

love, he's hardly going to worry about people he claims to have no feelings

for whatsoever. Same goes for anyone in public office who does the same. I

guess this is a cultural thing, but in the UK a politician cheating on their

wife will never manage to hold onto office (if they get found out) - if it

was found that Blair was having an affair, he'd be booted out within

minutes.

Well, in France, I don't think there's a married man who doesn't have a

mistress--and many married women have lovers as well--politicians included.

Yes, it was wrong for Clinton to lie about his affairs, but sheesh, it was

wrong for these jerks to grill him about his sex life and grill Monica

Lewinsky about the details of what she did with the pres. And I have a nice

list of guys who attacked Clinton, but couldn't stay true to their wives--in

fact, left them for the mistresses. Funnily, these are the same jerks who

voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which serves only to defend it from

gays. Quite frankly, I think allowing gays to marry could only improve the

institution.

Hi Danielle

My view is that mostly when you marry someone you promise to 'love them to

the exclusion of all others' or similar such promises. If a person breaks

that promise then they are just as likely to break promises made on the

political front. The breaking of the promise is proof of not being

trustworthy. I do not like untrustworthy people being in positions of

power. Admittedly it seems, for some reason unknown to me, to be extremely

difficult to find trustworthy people - but it doesn't mean we should give up

trying. Maybe a lot of people don't bother because they are untrustworthy

(having broken promises) themselves!

Hi Jo!

Oh I hope not! I remember the great medical treatment my father got

when we were in London about 17 years ago. I could have never been

more impressed.

Canada has great policies too. The government pays for it and makes

sure yer well taken care of.

And here we sit, on our high horses proclaiming to be the greatest

nation in the world and we can't even take care of our seniors and

those living on the street much less ourselves.

Well, everything I heard during the flap indicated that the reason we were a

laughingstock was *because* our politicians made such a big deal over his

misdeeds.

And I never suggested two wrongs make a right; what I said was that the

folks who attacked Clinton for his marital infidelity *had no right* to do

so. I never said it was OK for Clinton to do what he did; in fact, I think

he's a jerk for cheating on his wife.

What I said was, it looks really bad to persecute a man for cheating on his

wife when you've done it yourself. At least Bill and Hillary Clinton are

still married, which is more than you can say for Bob Barr (three

marriages), Newt Gingrich (ditto), Bob Dole, Phil Gramm, Bob Livingston,

whose House speaker bid was derailed by the fact that he had cheated on his

wife, and who knows how many others.

And I do think the people should know if their candidates are trustworthy.

That includes the guys who play marriage-go-round; the guys who are

physically faithful, but cozy up to corrupt corporations; the guys who

support racist organizations (Trent Lott, John Ashcroft, George W. Bush).

It's gone down hill a lot since then! We pay a form of tax called " National

Insurance " which is supposed to be used for the National Health Service,

Pensions, etc. But it's not! Apparently, when I retire, my National

Insurance payments will mean that I will get a state pension of........

£1.54 (about 2 US Dollars) per week! :-(

The general UK perspective was more that there was so much indecision over

what should be done. As I said, any politician caught having an affair in

the UK would be forced to resign pretty swiftly!

Which is a bit of a mystery in itself. Actually, no, it's not a mystery at

all - its got a lot to do with politics!
