Hi /m

 

Please check out Gabriel Cousens' " Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine "

Besides having very sound information, it has recipes specifically

created for low glycemic eating. It is the best book I have found yet

in regards to eating raw and doing so for YOUR body. It helps you

understand how foods affect the body and why it is important for

everyone to start out on a low glycemic diet. There are three

different phases

which include recipes for each phase. Also, the higher glycemic recipes

can be altered for low glycemic eating. He offers a glycemic index for

fruits

and vegetables too.

I agree with Craig about, not doing refined sugar and fruit not affecting me the

way it used to..Gaynell

get very tired (diabetic in the family on both sides). I can, however, do

coconuts and avocadoes, carrotts and beets are no problem. It's not hard to

omit fruit, but it's hard to find a raw cookbook that doesn't have 90% fruit

recipies :)

I am OK also w/lemons and limes and may try grapefruit soon.

Please let me know what you find with your body.

much on my own. Looking for place to chat with other vegans for

info./issues and how they do things and why. Thought this may be a

good place to try. I'm sorta dismayed though just from the last couple

digests seeing political type comments. I'm pretty far right leaning

(which doesn't seem to be too popular for vegans), but on animals and

the enviroment I'm equally far left. I know the board is open to

everything, not just vegan, but it would be nice to get away from

various things and just talk vegan/animal protection/enviroment type

stuff. Any boards/chat rooms anyone can recommend that just stick with

the vegan stuff?

We tend to chat about anything and everything on here! But there are other

vegan groups on - just have a little search through their directory.

 

Personally, I've given up with concepts of left and right wing.

Hi newbie,

We have probably covered most vegan topics once or twice, which is why we sometimes talk about anything.

Feel free to ask any questions you undoubtably have being a relatively new vegan.

Hi and WELCOME to the group!

 

Hmmm, I don't know of any other Vegan groups that don't get into

political issues at all, but maybe not quite like us.

 

I can say one thing about this group tho. We do disagree, we do state

our minds and opinions heavily, and sometimes we go over and under

board. But in the end, we always (ok almost always) respect each

others view.

 

We may " argue " our points back and forth but after all is said and

done, even if Peter, Jo or Fraggle have put their foot down if a

conversation carried to far, we can all still go back to discussing

other things.

 

It really is amazing how people do not hold grudges here. They really

are very open to others speaking their beliefs.

 

With that said, I will step off my soapbox, stop complimenting others

(they're not quite use to it from me) and again say WELCOME! I do hope

you'll stay. A discussion is never any good if all sides aren't given

or if everyone agrees. It's a great way to learn from one another!

You really can make family meals work. It's all new right now but

you learn to compromise and it eventually blends together.

The recipes files in this group are amazing, you will see what I mean

when to take a recipe stroll.

Hi Natasha,

 

Welcome to the group! I had allergies all my life, terrible in the

summer and fall when I lived in NJ and Michigan, and a little better

here in Puerto Rico, but even here often had to take benadryl just to

be able to sleep. For Christmas 2006, my mom gave me the book The

China Study, and after reading it I gave up milk and cheese (I used

to eat a lot). Since then, I have been totally allergy free, and

haven't used benadryl once to sleep!!!

Hi Brian,

 

Yes, isn't that book great? I was also an ovo lacto vegetarian (for 30

years) and I ate a lot of dairy. But I gave it up in January and my

diabetes (and weight) are definitely improving. I'm really amazed at

how powerfully healing the vegan diet can be. (And if you had told me

last year that I would become vegan I would have denied it hotly.) Now

I'm trying to wean my youngest off dairy. She's 12 and still has lots

of ear problems and I know those would be so much better if she gave up

milk and cheese.

Oh if you knew the list of things to which i'm allergic... Even my allergist

kind of freaked out. I'm on allergy shots, well sort of as they keep giving

me bronchitis. But the amount of foods and chemicals and herbs and spices

I'm allergic to leave me a bit freaked out at eating anything that I don't

know 100 percent what it's been through and where it's been.

My goal is to stay out of the hospital by eliminating my allergens from my

diet.

Only time will tell for this though.

Hi Natasha,

 

Ok, you need a lot of wisdom to figure this out. You probably need

to go as natural, organic and unprocessed as possible. Fresh

squeezed vegetable and fruit juices, as long as you aren't allergic

to the ingredients, would probably be very good and healing for you.

You should probably try to stay away from medications as much as

possible too. I'm reading a great book right now about a medical

school student's journey to her role now as a natural healer and its

pretty eye opening!!!

Welcome Kristy,

I just wanted to say, I stopped eating meat for digestive reasons, but I am

so pleased to report that I am losing weight at a very steady pace!!!! I am

5'5 " and weigh 253, so I have PLENTY to lose. I've only been w/out meat for

about 4 weeks.

At first I was worried that it was muscle that I was losing, but I reminded

myself that I walk daily and go to cruves 3x a week, plus a very active mom

who works full time outside of the home, and I'm a homeowner, so I do plenty

of shoveling, wood lugging etc. If my BF% doesn't start to increase, I will

stop worrying.

 

Enjoy, the recipes here come in at an alarming pace...I've been a printing

and experimenting fanatic!!!

Thank you for the welcome! I am still trying to learn more - for example, I am

not clear on getting the proper protein/carb ration down pat yet. I am VERY

excited about it though!

New Here

 

 

Hi. I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Karen

and I'm 43 years old. I decided to become a vegetarian a few weeks

ago. I've been eating pretty much the same things and need to learn

some new things to eat. I live in Tennessee and have 3 children. Two

are grown and one is almost grown. My husband and my son, who live

with me are supportive but don't eat only vegetarian themselves. I am

a type 2 diabetic so that is another challenge to my diet. My blood

sugar is under good control but I am seriously overweight. I'm hoping

this new lifestyle will help me to become healthier.

I guess that is about all. Thanks for letting me join.

hi tiffany! Welcome...

 

i had tooth pain last year after a month raw..i was eating citrus...

 

this time..im about 6weeks raw and nnnoooo tooth pain what so

ever......but include NO citrus.....for me that seemed to be the

problem....all else is pretty much the same..

 

im 43, have dropped 13lbs so far...which is the same as last

year....15lbs 6 weeks...this way of eating has resulted in pretty

consistent results for me..

Hello: I have also just joined ( faye here ) I am still researching

the raw foodist lifestyle. For now I am eating fresh fruits and

steamed vegtables.
