Guest guest
Hi Paul, Sydney is a beautiful place to live and we're very lucky, but summers do get a tad too hot for me. I was in the UK a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it. My hubby is from Birmingham and all his family are still there. We try and get over every couple of years or so. I don't think wombats live in trees, could the animal you're thinking of be a koala? As for the selections of foods here for vegans, it's still very limited. Could all be that I haven't found the right places to shop yet! I tend to stick to veggies/tofu/meat alternatives and find that suits me. I'm still on the hunt for some cheese so that's my main concern at the moment lol Cheers, Lee , Paul Russell <prussell wrote: > > Hi Lee - > > I'm envious that you're in Sydney - I had a fun time there visiting friends many years before heading up to Cairns to do all the usual stuff. Guest guest
Hi Lee - We should probably swap houses as I hate the weather in the UK. I lived in California for 5 years and that was perfect for me (on the coast at least - way too hot inland). Definitely not koalas. Maybe it was possums ? I remember this one park right in the middle of Sydney and in early evening these animals would climb down out of the trees looking for food. Guest guest
Hi Paul, I'd definately swap houses...where abouts are you in the UK though Ah yes, the possum. We have them living in our roof. They'll go out about 8.30 at night and return about 3am wearing army boots!! They are so cute but such a pest to get rid of. We've had them for years and I think we're up to about the 9th generation now! Oh, I managed to find some cheese on my travels today. It called Tofutti and is sort of like a processed sliced cheese. Tasted nice though. Cheers, Lee , Paul Russell <prussell wrote: > > Hi Lee - > > We should probably swap houses as I hate the weather in the UK. Guest guest
A woman of good taste then:) That's what I found when I turned vegan, there wasn't actually any major changes in my diet except for the lack of cheese. I'm not too keen on the vegan cheeses but will have a little bit melted on a meal every now and again, seems a bit of a waste though as i buy some and use a minute amount just for it to then sit in my fridge for a couple of months. Have you looked on the internet for any companies that do vegan food? That's what I used for a while before I started to figure out where I could get food locally from. lee1963 Tue, 17 Nov 2009 23:39:09 +0000 Re: New here Hi Donna, I'm actually a girl lol. Guest guest
Hi Lee - Yes, good old possums - you can send your possum residents over here if you like and they can live in our roof. I'm in Brighton, on the south coast, which is a pretty good place for vegans. Summer is (usually) OK, but the English winters are long and miserable. Tofutti do some good products - as well as their cheese slices (which are meltable, unlile a lot of other vegan cheeses) they also do some pretty good fake cream cheeses and of course their de luxe vegan ice cream range is superb. Guest guest
Hi Donna, This cheese I bought yesterday tasted quite nice. Not sure though how it would go melted but on a sandwich it was good. I've looked online and there isn't anything around here but I can buy stuff via the net. I think the 'hard' part will be with the festive season coming up. Trying to find finger food to take to parties will be a challenge I think. How do you get on with this? Guest guest
Hi Paul, I'll have to search further for Tofutti and see what else they have here. So far I've only found the cheese! I'll gladly send the possums over lol. Oh, Brighton is such a lovely place. Now you've got me remembering all the good times! Guest guest
Hi Lee It does eventually melt but not as much or as good as you get with 'normal' cheese. Their ice cream is gorgeous though - that's reminded me I bought a tub of it last week and not touched it yet, there's a plan for the weekend! I tend to make up some food myself and take it in a container with me. Normally I take some salad, samosas and spring rolls. The first party I went too I thought there'd be some salad for me to eat but for some reason people don't tend to do it anymore. I did feel a bit funny taking my own food to start with but I think now if people aren't going to do anything remotely suitable for me to eat it's just easier to take my own. Plus at least this way you get what food you like and you don't have to take part in any mad scamble for the food:) Last christmas was my first one with being vegan and I was terrified I wouldn't have any treats to eat. In the end I went a bit overboard making cookies and cakes and truffles etc etc etc. Think I might do a bit less this year! Take care Donna lee1963 Wed, 18 Nov 2009 22:45:49 +0000 Re: New here Hi Donna, This cheese I bought yesterday tasted quite nice. Not sure though how it would go melted but on a sandwich it was good. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I think it might be easier for me here to attend parties etc. Alot of my friends understand and one good friend is a chef. She works at a child care centre and has Muslim kids that can only eat Halal food. Although she still can't work out why I don't eat dairy as to her the animal isn't being harmed! I bought a beautiful cook book yesterday that has some really nice recipes and is from a local author. There are a few dips so I think I know what I'll take to these functions. Christmas will be interesting though! best, Lee , Donna H <dona1982 wrote: > > > Hi Lee > > > > It does eventually melt but not as much or as good as you get with 'normal' cheese. Plus at least this way you get what food you like and you don't have to take part in any mad scamble for the food:) > > > > Last christmas was my first one with being vegan and I was terrified I wouldn't have any treats to eat. In the end I went a bit overboard making cookies and cakes and truffles etc etc etc. Think I might do a bit less this year! > > > > Take care > > > > Donna > > > > lee1963 > Wed, 18 Nov 2009 22:45:49 +0000 > Re: New here Hi Donna, > > This cheese I bought yesterday tasted quite nice. I think the 'hard' part will be with the festive season coming up. Trying to find finger food to take to parties will be a challenge I think. How do you get on with this? > > Cheers, > Lee > > , Donna H <dona1982@> wrote: > > > > > > A woman of good taste then:) That's what I found when I turned vegan, there wasn't actually any major changes in my diet except for the lack of cheese. I'll definately check out the City Bar next time I'm over. Might be there in the New Year so a trip to Wolverhampton will be on the cards. I found so really good vegan foods in the UK. Unlike what we have in OZ. Still, I haven't found it too hard adjusting as I'm a suckker for vegetables > > > > Best, > > Lee > > > > , Donna H <dona1982@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > A man of good taste liking Birmingham:) Next time you come over theres a fab (well I think it is) place just outside of Birmingham in Wolverhampton called the City Bar. It does vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and meat dishes so I find it a great place to eat out with other people as I'm the only vegan out of my family and friends. > > > > > > > > > > > > lee1963@ > > > Tue, 17 Nov 2009 03:41:33 +0000 > > > Re: New here > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > , Paul Russell <prussell@> wrote: > > > > > > > > Hi Lee - > > > > > > > > It should have been sent out automatically in an email but these things are not always as reliable as they might be.
