Hi Emma,

So nice to have you in the group, you've found the right place for help. There

is a

wonderful Radiant Recipe's Book, think theres also a web link to this as well,

if I find it will

pass it on to you.

Finding balance is good and takes time, just part of the fun learning process.

Welcome,

Bob

Hello,

Thanks for the great welcome! For breakfast I am having veggie burgers

and porridge and oatmilk with whey protein powder stirred in. I have

discovered that the nicest 1/4lb veggie burgers from Tescos (in UK)

have something like 24g of protein!!! So that helps.

I have been scouring my veggie recipe books but they are generally

quite low in protein so have ordered a low-carb veggie recipe book in

the hope that there might be some more ideas in that. Does anyone have

experience of a programme-friendly recipe book?

Hello to Bob and Agustina too :-)

Well I've had good luck with Indian cookbooks. The recipes are generally sugar

free (except for desserts of course LOL) and there are so many kinds of dishes

the vegetarians in India have come up with.

Hi Emma :)

I snoop around vegetarian lists on the Internet, there are tons of good recipes

to be

found there. Also, libraries often have good vegetarian cookboks so I check them

out

and make photocopies of all the recipes I like and, if needed, I adapt them to

be

program frinedly.

HTH.

Dear Sharon, If you are near washington DC, I could teach you various ways to cook lentils. Or you could ask any Indian to teach you to cook lentils. I am on total vegeterian diet and get my proteins from lentils and sprouts. Kiransharon hansen <sharongollumhansen wrote: hello beverlee, i joined this group for the same reason. i'm struggling with animal products and am trying to incorporate more vegetarian meals into my diet. i need about 25 grams of protein per meal. so far what i've done is kept my breakfast the same. i eat a protein shake every morning which is vegetarian. and then i'll eat either a veg. lunch or a veg. dinner. than way, for now, i'm eating one non-veg meal per day. i'd love to convert fully

but i need to find more recipes. Messenger with Voice. Make PC-to-Phone Calls to the US (and 30+ countries) for 2¢/min or less.

Hi Pamela;

Congratulations on your 3 months acheivement of freedom from gluten! Way to go!

:-)

Yes, there is a required amount of protein we need to consume each day. It's a

lot less than most people think though, and more is NOT better, despite how gym

junkies fantasies about more dietary protein being a short cut to building

bigger, stronger muscles. This article summarizes the situation very well.

http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/protein_myth.html

This article goes into a little more detail.

http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/protein.html

Specifically for the athletes with whom you converse, here's this one:

http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vegetarian_athletes.html

Wishing you all the best...

Deborah

Hello everyone~

I'm new to the group and have been gluten free for 3 months with

several setbacks along the way. Even with those gluten mishaps, I've had

two noticeable improvement during this time - no major chronic fatigue

moments. Also, after suffering with alopecia for 10 years, my hair has

finally returned.... : )

With my improvement in energy, I've been more consistent with

working out - cardio and weight lifting. Now here's my question,

is there really a required amount of protein I should consume

on a daily bases? I would appreciate any feedback...

This questions stems from my conversations with the

various meat eaters that I talk to at the gym....smile

Thanks,

Pamela

I do live in Maryland. I am terrible at remembering names. Do we know each

hello

I am so happy to be accepted as a member of your group. Once in a while I

teach vegetarian cooking. I am a retired nurse and am in recovery from

breast cancer. My Dr. told me that people in recovery from breast cancer

need to cut the amount of fat they eat and also do a lot of exercise. All

this has caused a change in my eating and way I cook. It is so much easier

to cut the amount of fat in my diet by eating vegetarian. Looking forward to

getting acquainted with everyone.

Hi Danielle, welcome to the garden of earthly delights! You'll love the recipes

here but love the people more. This is the best, most caring and loving group

of people on the Internet. (Just my opinion, but ....)

There are so many wonderful recipes you'll find yourself trying new things and

enjoying them. Though a vegetarian for over 20 years, Donna and the others got

me to try tofu and it was GOOD. Shocked the dickens out of me, I can assure you!

Hey Joann

Arlington has a great whole foods store that I have yet to go to. I

bought some vegetarian stuff today from Kroger and their selection

wasn't too bad.

That store is pretty good, there is a Central Market in Fort Worth that is

wonderful and one just opened up in Southlake.

I go to a much smaller market called Healhty Approach, I buy a few things

there but just do not have the wallet to really grocery shop there.

It's weird. I grew up in the Philiipines, and all the healthy food

were so cheap. In here, it's the opposite. Our grocery is so high

bec we always try to eat healthy.

I think in general that the American public has the worst diets, even the

people that are thin really do not eat all that well.

Yet we have so much variety that is accessible to us, kinda sad in a way.

love Thai Jasmine. They have the best garden rolls! Yumm!

The 7th will be my first trip to Thai, I am looking forward to going and

meeting others going vegan/veggie.

I hope you try to make it, I dont know what time they will be eating but I

will find out and let you know.

I'll be happy to go with you to the Spiral Diner. Just let me know

Hi Joann-

I just joined today too!!! I have been skirting the vegetarian

lifestyle for awhile now, but always seem to drift back to my old

ways. I am hoping that by communicating with others, I can get some

ideas and just have a common ground for suggestions etc... Sounds like

you are off to a good start with the person that lives near you in

Fort Worth.and those vegan outings.

Good luck with that and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi, JoAnn!

Congratulations on keeping firm in your beliefs; I know how hard

people can try to make things for veg*ans. This is a great group for

Hey Kris! (wow, there are a lot of new people!!!)

Well, let's see... I'm assuming you're looking for suggestions as far

as how not to drift back? I guess it depends on why you want to be

veg. For me, it's morality reasons-- I don't support the harm or

killing of any animal, so at this point it's harder for me to eat

animal products than not to. But I used to be a carnivore, and I

became vegan over several years-- I quit red meat in the 8th grade,

chicken in 1994, and went completely vegan 6 years ago. Cheese and

dim sum were the hardest things for me to give up, but any cravings

went away after a few months. Now if there's dairy in my food I can't

digest it any more (which is how the human body is designed in the

first place-- we're not supposed to consume dairy after infancy).

I think it all comes down to how important your reasons are to you.

If they are important enough, you won't want to slide back any more.

Hope this helps.

WOW, that's really amazing how you have altered your body. It's funny,

but I just started a new job not too long ago and there is another

girl there who is a strict vegetarian, but not quite vegan. I think

her reasons are the same (basically) as yours in that she is appaled

at the harm that comes to animals all for the sake of food which

people shouldn't be consuming in the first place. She forwarded me

this article that a friend forwarded to her that was in (I think) the

December issue of Rolling Stone magazine. It's about a pig

slaughterhouse. I actually have a subscription to Rolling Stone, saw

it, and skipped it. Just because it makes my heart ache when I think

about those poor animals and the condidtions humans keep them in. They

are better off dead. I know that sounds horrible, and I don't mean

they're better off dead so we should eat them, but even for an

animal--it's just obscene. Anyway, your level is something that I will

strive for. Thanks for writing.
