Thanx for the support Dee, I've given up today (I've given up before

but this time am coinciding it randomly with joining this list anew)

Problem is, there's a tobacco selling newsagent only 30 seconds walk

away from me!

When i smoked I would often say things that I wished i wouldn't,

but not regret it cos all I really cared about was another cigarette

(euck!) like I'd express true feelings about meat eating and the

meat industry and make meat eaters feel guilty etc (I know there is

a debate going on whether this is right or wrong) but now that I

have given up again, it will necessarily tune my attitude down

towards meat eaters, cos I won't be able to say stuff unthinkingly,

because I won't be an addict. I think being compassionate to all

things is pretty important, but there are so many people who really

don't give a **** about anyone or anything else that ruining their

day isn't such a bad thing. But maybe I won't think that when I've

properly given up.

Greetings everyone,

I am new to this group and thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is Alison, I'm 32 and live in Adelaide, Australia. I share my life with a 1 year old Rottweiler named Shelby, a 4 year budgie called Moby and a 2 year old rat called Chewie and my boyfriend. I am currently studying accounting and am a member of the South Australian Animal Welfare League.

I have been a vegetarian since I was 15 and have being trying to go vegan for some time. My main problem is that I have been unable to find a list of substitute products suitable for Australians. I love to cook so want to be able to use the correct ingredients. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction of a substitute list I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks

Alison

I believe that Tofutti is an Austrailian company. They make wonderful

vegan cheese slices, cream cheese, soy ice cream, and cookies. I

could not be vegan without them!! Also, here in The States, Tofurkey

makes great vegan turkey slices and roasts. I'm not sure about a

specific list of products, but check out the PETA website. They

usually have good things. Let me know if there is a pecific subsitute

that you are seeking and I can try to help. Marisa

Here's some veggie food items in Oz:

http://www.vnv.org.au/Products.htm

Here's a list of restaurants and healthfood shops in

Oz http://happycow.net/australia/index.html

If you have a recipe you want to make vegan, please

feel free to post it and I (and others) will gladly

transform it into a vegan recipe for you.

Thanks for the links MrFalafel, they will come in very handy, I've been pouring over the VNV site!

I am looking at trying to make some of my own products, such as substitutes for:

Sour cream

Mayonnaise

and then what to use in place of eggs, gelatine, cream etc.

These pages should be helpful for most of those.

Tofutti Bett Thank Sour Cream is the whole reason I have bene able to

stay vegan sine I switched three years ago. It tastes just like sour

cream (even my non-veg hubby eats it) and I use it to make " cream " soups,

which I love and dips for snacking.

If you liked Miracle Whip, you'll like Nayonaise.

What products exactly do you want substitues for? I am a vegan and just

moved from Australia this year ( Melb).

For baking use Energy Egg replacer, give up fried eggs!

Try Kingland Soy Mayo. Get Agar Agar flakes for gelatine.

There is a soy cream but hard to find called Blue Lotus.

There's more this is just OTTOMH.

When I left Australia earlier this year they did not have Vegenaise

anywhere that I could find it. They have an Aussie soy mayo called Kingland.

Here in NZ they import Nayonaise, expensive but yummy.

Hi all. My name is Rae and I live in DC. I am new to raw foods and it is a bit overwhelming. I have not eaten meat in years, but dairy products are hard to give up. I love to cook and I have printed all the recipes that have been posted and I am happy that I have a lot of the ingredients in my pantry and fridge. I look forward to sharing stories, experiences and eventualy meeting some of the list members. Peace and blessings to all.

Hi Emma :)

Step 3 can be a bit of a challenge for most people, let alone us vegetarians. I

spent a

looooong time on Step 3 (about 8 months I think) and what I found really helpful

were

the baby steps in the files section of radiantstep3 list. Have you perhaps

joined the

step 3 list?

When you feel ready to move up to step 3, I hope we'll be able to help you with

some

yummy meals and snacks ideas.

What are you having for breakfast? I am a " shake gal " myself.
