I don't know about for the crockpot, but I recently checked out a South

Beach Diet Cookbook from the library because it had vegetarian recipes (not

vegan, but you could adjust). A lot of them had beans (legumes) and

vegetables. Anyway, here are some links that I found a while back....

I think any vegan dish that you would normally prepare would be fine for

your friends. But perhaps not a pasta dish. What phase of the diet are they

at?

" There are basically three phases in SB Diet. You eat normal portion sizes

In Phase 1, but all carbohydrate are restricted. This is the strictest phase

in the diet and will last for two weeks. It emphasizes lean meats, such as

chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Low-Glycemic-index vegetables are

allowed as well as low-fat cheese, nuts, eggs. Dieters should expect to lose

somewhere between 8 to 13 pounds. In Phase 2, some of the banned food are

slowly introduced while weight loss continue to around 1-2 pounds per week.

You should remain on it until you lost your desired amount of weight. Phase

3 is for maintenance and should be followed for life. Is all about

maintaining your desired weight with a healthy balanced diet. Should your

weight begin to climb, simply return to Phase 1. "

As far as I know South Beach Diet eliminates bad carbs. It's not as severe as

Atkins in that it doesn't restrict carbs that are healthy for you like whole

grain/whole wheat breads and pastas and fruit and veggies. Basically any

refined sugars are out. I would ask your friends though to get a clearer

understanding...but that is what I think it is.

I use the recipe on the crisco box (US) - only in the US is it vegan. The recipe on the Canadian Crisco box isn't vegan.

Hi April!

 

Many store-bought cake mixes are vegan, and one can

use Ener-G egg replacer in place of the eggs. Most

Duncan Hines cake mixes are vegan. Best wishes!!

Wow! This is very good to know, and something I never would have guessed.

 

The rare times when I do make dietary exceptions are for birthday cakes. Now I just have to bring the cake myself and I'll know it's safe.

I have had a horrible time with cakes and brownies using the Ener-G egg replacer. Any tips? They come out oily and gooey and sometimes really hard on the bottom. I haven't had this problem with egg replacer in other things though.Mary Boehler <mbb73 wrote:

Same here, that's why I don't use the store bought chocolate cake mixes

anymore. It works fine for the yellow cake mixes but I can never make

it work with chocolate! LOL

When I do up my chilis I just add the boiled peppers to a jar that is filled

with sugar and vinegar. It keeps for at least a year as I have eaten them

and no problem.

 

With cold, snow covered, unplowed roads greetings from Canada.

Marsha, I bet this would work for a coating for cheese balls. I used to

buy a mix at Cost Plus World Market, but have not seen it again. You

can mix cream cheese and cheddar (or vegan versions of same), roll it

into a ball, then roll it in the spice mix and chill.

Dry Vegetable Broth Mix

 

1 tbl. onion powder

1 tbl. dried parsley flakes

1 1/2 tsps. garlic powder

1 1/2 tsps. celery salt

1/2 tsp. ground sage

1/2 tsp. dried marjoram

1/2 tsp. dried thyme

1/2 tsp. dried basil

1/2 tsp. dried oregano

1/4 tsp. pepper

1/4 tsp. dried dill weed

 

Combine all ingredients and mix well.

Store in a jar with a tightly fitting lid.

Stir before each use.

Use 1 rounded teaspoon to each cup of water.

Will season 12 cups of water for soup.

Coors beer is brewed here in my state of Colorado. Pure mountian spring

water or so they say..Lol. Long time family owned brewery in a

beautiful mt. town. My uncle worked there for many yrs. .retired now.

Coors is a nice beer.

Hi everybody.

 

My name is Agustina and I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've been following

the program since November. I'm on step 3 right now. I could see some amazing

changes after only a few weeks and although I have my ups and downs things are

only getting better and better.

I live with my husband and two daughters, ages 6 and 1. The elder is following

the program with great enthusiasm, too. After being vegetarians for some years

we went onto a vegan macrobiotic diet for about 5 years. Later on and for

different reasons we started adding eggs but no diary, and some time after that

we added some cheese (mostly ricotta and cottage cheese). This was some 3 or 4

years ago. I ate meat a few times during my last pregnancy just because I craved

for it.

 

Being a vegetarian was part of a search - although I was never sure what I was

searching for. Now I realize I was trying to bring some order into my eating and

fill a gap in my life. Having someone (in this case, vegetarianism) telling me

what to eat and what not to eat made my feel more confident and less anxious.

However, sugar always seaked in. Somehow. I knew somehing was wrong and it had

to do with the sugar in my life. I foud this amazing program by just typing

" sugar addiction " into a search engine.

 

So, I started eating meat in order to be able to fit 20-22g of protein into

every meal. Sometimes I eat tofu (not much because I'm afraid it might interfere

with my thyroid medication) or lentils or beans. Sometimes it's eggs. Meat has

become a large part of my diet (at least compared to my " previous life " !) and

although I have to admit I'm feeling great, I'd like to start cutting down. I

would love to share vegetarian recipes and learn more about getting enough

protein without eating animals.
