OK, I will try the Knox treatment, it seems too easy, but maybe the simple things

work best. I will keep u informed, thanks

edgetexlady <rbright wrote: I, too,

took Glucosamine, etc. for weeks prior to my knee surgery

(removal of some cartilage) in January. The only thing that helped

with the discomfort is Knox Gelatin (go figure!)

Find it in the grocery store over next to the Jello section. Orange

& white box, contains four packets. Typically, take about 4 oz.

orange juice (or juice of your choice - COLD), stir as you pour one

packet in and drink immediately. I usually follow with another glass

of water.

I took it last Tuesday a.m., and woke up Wednesday a.m. with no

pain. I was amazed! Plus, I just feel better all over (I'm almost

58) - I wished I'd heard of this sooner.

For most people, one packet a day works fine -- but if you need more,

then take another one with a cool liquid in the evening.

I researched on line for any bad side effects, found none. It's also

less expensive than glucosamine/chondroitin, etc., and you only have

to take it once a day (as opposed to three times a day).

They use it on dogs and horses who have problems with arthritis as

well. Upon mentioning it to my son (who raises horses) he said, " oh

yeah, we use that on our horses all the time. "

I will say, however, if I walk on concrete (the mall ... I hate to

shop any way) for a while, some pain comes back. But once I've

slept, taken the morning juice combo, I feel fine again. So I'm

learning not to push it.

There is one theory that by staying away from " nightshade " vegetables,

could help with arthritis symptoms. Particularly tomatoes and

potatoes. Check to see if your diet includes a lot of these 2 foods,

french fries, tomatoe sauce, pizza etc. and if so, try staying away

from them for 2 weeks to see if symptoms change. Chinese herbal

formulas also help with arthritis and you can get some here

http://www.holisticchineseherbs.com

Also acupuncture is VERY helpful for arthritis. Find a local

acupuncturist or we can help you find a qualified one.

I once had a book by a Western-trained doctor of

Chinese origin.

When he developed rheumatoid arthritis he first

tried all sorts of " regular " medicine.

Nothing worked.

Then he remembered an old Chinese anti-arthritis diet.

It consisted of rice, vegetables, and fish. That was it.

Nothing else.

He cured himself and many others with this diet.

The book, written in the seventies, was called

The Arthritis Cookbook.

I gave it away, and cannot look up the author, but

the principle is pretty basic!

However, that was before the waters of the world

were so filled with pollution that eating fish becomes

a dilemma.

The take-home message from this book is that the diet

avoided many common allergens: corn, wheat, soy, eggs,

dairy.....

Checking out food allergens and sensitivities is vital

to good health. More later....

Taking pectin along with the knox gelatin also would be good to take. pectin

can be found in the canning section. It is used in making jam.

You are so right Hamish! Diet has everything to do

with Dis-ease in the body and also stress. 95% of

disease( dis-ease ) is caused by stress.

My partner is using both Biofeedback and Vegan diet to

reduce the symptoms and correct the damage that SERO

Negative Spondilitis has done to his body. 2 years ago

he was walking with a cane, on pain meds and in pain

24/7. He had limited flexibility and was about 70

pounds overweight. The Dr had told him he would be in

a wheel chair by age 60, he was 42 at the time.

Today he is off the pain meds, no longer uses the

cane, has lost 50 of the 70 lbs and has more

flexibility and generally feels better. Chiropractor

and the Structural Therapist he has seen have both

said they cannot find the fused vertebrae! He doesn't

believe in allopthic drs.

He will readily attribute it to the Biofeedback and

changes in his diet.

Hi: I have been using simple " Vicks " to massage on the joints to relieve the

soreness on my fingers, elbows, shoulders or neck, or any other part of my

body, even when I fell, I massage with vicks, next day no bruise or

inflammation not even pain. Also, for the Sciatica pain and cause of trouble

to move around, it works; I live in Canada for along 10 years, Scientists

have discovered that vicks can cure arthritis, when is not severe. Still can

give some relieve for the swallowing and pain. If desired, check the

Eucalyptus Properties on the INTERNET.

hope you find this useful, Tammy

Hi there,

My best advice to you -

- See an acupuncturist for pain relief - there is lots of good

research on the topic, and I know that my acupuncturist has a lot of

patients there for pain management

-HOmeopathy - I like a brand called " heel " , that is found in Europe,

Canada and the US. They have a product called " Zeel " which according

to their studies, has worked better for arthritic pain than Vioxx or

Celebrex, and works with your own body, without the chemicals! I

have used other products by the same company, but have not used Zeel

myself, just read studies and took a few seminars regarding them.

-I also, as previous posts have shown, am a firm believer in

chiropractic, especially for hip pain, although some will do

extremity adjustments.

I know there are also other herbs and formulas out there, I just

cannot name them off hand. The only other advice I can give, is to

not eat pork. Pork is high in arachidonic acid, which is the

precursor to pain in the body.

My best to you,

Sarah

I have been doing this for years.

I use it simply because it has the same properitys as

muscle rub. And also it stops hemhooroids quick!

Scullcap! I have used it for sometime and the last time the dr did a blood

test, I had no inflammation. I have had RA for 5 years, so this was a true

miracle. I cap my own, but you can buy it at Wal Mart. Make sure you get the

king that is pure scullcap in a gel cap so there are no binders. I believe it

says to take 3 a day, I doubled up at first because it isn't as strong as what I

make. Within 24 hours, you should notice a difference.

Hope you're better soon.

Hi Sarah,

Your Mom is one brave woman, doing all the right diet things!

I had a diet book written in the mid-seventies by an MD, trained

in the West, but with roots in China. I gave it away but remember

the gist of it.

It was called " The arthritis diet cookbook " , and the premise

was totally simple: try a diet consisting of rice, vegetables

and fish.

Nothing else. The doctor had been quite crippled up and cured

himself and many others with this diet. He had remembered the

diet from his early life in China.

Mom could start with that till she improves, and then slowly

add ingredients to her diet to see how she reacts.

Or would that much fish be too much Mercury? This was written

in the seventies after all. Maybe alter it to be rice, vegetables

and some protein.

I am currently recovering from a thumb joint replacement--it is going VERY WELL. If you have an x-ray done you can see in the x-ray if the bone is diminished. In my x-ray it looked like my thumb was out in the middle of nowhere as half the bone was gone.

According to the doctor there is nothing that can be done to prevent it from happening to the other hand as that bone is also disappearing. If anyone knows of a natural way to slow down the bone deterioration I would love to hear it.

I had the surgery done along with carpal tunnel surgery on January 2nd. I am already grasping things that if I had done it at Christmas would have been whimpering in pain. So I am very pleased with the surgery--the expense is a whole other matter.

Bottom line---check an x-ray. If bone loss, you have a problem and need to consider surgery. If bone is there and looks good, look else where for the cause.

Avoid calcium for six weeks and take a good quality (non-oxide) 200 mg, magnesium supplement at least every six hours.

Take, 25,000 IU vitamin A (from fish oil) with 1000 IU vit D each day for six weeks.

Check your Iodine levels by painting a 3 inch patch of iodine in a light but inconspicuous spot on your skin. The stain should remain 24 hours - if not you are iodine deficient and need to supplement iodine also/ This may indicate that you may have a condition similar to DuPuytren's contracture.

Two to four caps of fish body oil and two to four caps of MSM per day will also help in addition to the Glucosamine/chondroitin you are already taking.

This is a lot of STUFF but it is not a "forever" program. --- On Thu, 1/29/09, Amber Boggs <rubyrue wrote:

I addition to this I would soak a piece of cloth in mixture

of 90%CS/10%DMSO or 80/20 and wrap it around the sore joint.

or paint the sore joint with this mixture and let dry. Repeat a few times

per day.

Try CMO. Cetyl Myristoleate. You can buy it at www.beyondacenturyonline.com for $12 for the powder form which should be enough. Follow the directions. I mix it with cottage cheese to get it down. I had ring-finger stiffness on both hands so I couldn't bend the fingers at all, but less than a week of this stuff and I'm healed. The fingers bend just fine now.

Mangostin Inhibits Inhibitor-B Kinase Activity and

Decreases Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Cyclooxygenase-2

Gene Expression in C6 Rat Glioma Cells

Pharmacology, National Cardiovascular Center Research Institute, Osaka, Japan (H.I.)

Received May 11, 2004; accepted June 18, 2004

ABSTRACT

We investigated the effect of -mangostin purified from the fruit

hull of the medicinal plant Garcinia mangostana on spontaneous

prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) release and inducible cyclooxygenase

2 (COX-2) gene expression in C6 rat glioma cells. An

18-h treatment with -mangostin potently inhibited spontaneous

PGE2 release in a concentration-dependent manner with

the IC50 value of approximately 2 M, without affecting the cell

viability even at 30 M. By immunoblotting and reverse-transcription

polymerase chain reaction, we showed that -mangostin

concentration-dependently inhibited lipopolysaccharide

(LPS)-induced expression of COX-2 protein and its mRNA, but

not those of constitutive COX-1 cyclooxygenase. Because LPS

is known to stimulate inhibitor B (IB) kinase (IKK)-mediated

phosphorylation of IB followed by its degradation, which in

turn induces nuclear factor (NF)-B nuclear translocation leading

to transcriptional activation of COX-2 gene, the effect of

-mangostin on the IKK/IB cascade controlling the NF-B

activation was examined. An in vitro IKK assay using IKK protein

immunoprecipitated from C6 cell extract showed that this

compound inhibited IKK activity in a concentration-dependent

manner, with the IC50 value of approximately 10 M. Consistently

-mangostin was also observed to decrease the LPSinduced

IB degradation and phosphorylation in a concentration-

dependent manner, as assayed by immunoblotting.

Furthermore, luciferase reporter assays showed that -mangostin

reduced the LPS-inducible activation of NF-B–and human

COX-2 gene promoter region-dependent transcription.

-Mangostin also inhibited rat carrageenan-induced paw

edema. These results suggest that -mangostin directly inhibits

IKK activity and thereby prevents COX-2 gene transcription, an

NF-B target gene, probably to decrease the inflammatory

agent-stimulated PGE2 production in vivo, and is a new useful

lead compound for anti-inflammatory drug development.

Prostaglandins (PGs), arachidonic acid (AA) metabolites of

the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway, are major mediators in

the regulation of inflammation and immune function (Smith

et al., 2000). In the brain, the prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is the

most abundant PG. PGE2 levels are very low or undetectable

in normal conditions but can rise in response to inflammatory

processes, multiple sclerosis, and AIDS-associated dementia

(Fretland, 1992; Griffin et al., 1994). High levels of

PGE2 can modulate the activities of multiple cell types,

including neurons, glial, and endothelial cells, as well as

microglia/macrophage and lymphocyte functions during inflammatory

and immune processes (Weissmann, 1993). Astrocytes

are a known important source of PGE2 in the CNS

(Katsuura et al., 1989). Their ability to produce PGE2 upon

stimulation with interleukin (IL)-1, tumor necrosis factor-

(TNF-), or bacterial wall protein lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has

been extensively documented (Fontana et al., 1982; Mollace et

al., 1998; Molina-Holgado et al., 2000).

Cyclooxygenase (COX) is well known to be responsible for

PG production and the rate-limiting enzymes. This enzyme

Dear Amber,

I second Tony's recommendations.

The type of magnesium supplements we take are important, because some

are more assimilable than others. As Tony says, avoid magnesium oxide

if you're looking for an absorbable form of magnesium. From what I

understand, magnesium malate and magnesium orotate are two of the

better choices in terms of how well they are absorbed by the body.

Check out this link for mag malate:

http://www.vitacost.com/Source-Naturals-Magnesium-Malate-1250-mg-90-Tablets?csrc\

=GPF-021078002611

When considering which vitamin D to buy, remember that it's important

to take D3, (cholecalciferol) not D2. D3 is the type of vitamin D our

bodies make naturally from sunlight exposure. Getting a good dose of

natural sunshine directly onto bare skin every day is the best way to

get plenty of vitamin D3. But if this is not possible, be sure to

take supplemental D3 rather than D2, as D3 is the more assimilable

form of this nutrient.

Carlson makes a high potency D3 in liquid form that supplies 2000 IU

per drop:

http://www.vitacost.com/Carlson-Vitamin-D-Drops

It's also very important to get the highest quality marine based oil,

rich in omega 3s, that you can find. Choose your product carefully,

as there are a lot of inferior fish oils on the market. If you take a

product and it makes you burp a fishy taste, chances are the oil in it

has become rancid. This means that whatever O3s it may have once

contained have most likely been oxidized and so destroyed, rendering

that product essentially worthless in terms of its potential

therapeutic effect.

Another suggestion is to regularly include some kind of seaweed (like

kelp, nori or dulse etc.) in your husband's diet. This will not only

provide him with a natural source of iodine, but will also ensure that

he's regularly getting a variety of trace minerals into his body.

Consuming these trace minerals will help the other supplemental

macro-nutrients he's taking work together more synergistically, which

will better support his body in the healing process.

Besides taking plenty of supplemental A, D3, magnesium, omega 3s and

trace minerals, your husband might also find it very beneficial to

regularly massage some magnesium oil into the skin around his joints

wherever it's painful. Magnesium oil can be used directly on the skin

either full strength or diluted, and can also be added to a bath for

soaking the whole body.

Some of the purest magnesium oil available can be purchased from LL's

Magnetic Clay here:

http://www.magneticclay.com/store/magnesium-oil-ancient-minerals-8.aspx

And if you're not already, following the Weston A. Price Foundation's

dietary guidelines may also be helpful:
