  1. I wish you posted the info about Bharathi and followed by the translation of his poem as a separate thread..
  2. Hi srivats, If you are posting another poem of Bharathi, Give an introduction about Bharathi and his relevance in Indian and tamil literature context. Is sad to note from some guest that he is not aware of such a great poet. I hope he is not from India. Shyam
  3. Hi guest..Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi was a great poet during the time of our freedom struggle who lived in the later part of 19th century and early part of 20th century and died in 1921. In tamilnadu only two poets are commonly refered as Mahakavi. One is Bharathi and the other was the ancient poet Kalidas. All Bharathi's poems will appear familiar to us since most of the Indian movie songs had their essence from his poetries which has been translated in several indian languages shyam
  4. Hi..I would suggest yu to read the Bagawatgita (slokas and interpretation) printed by Ramakrishna Mutt. In this they have given the interpretations of Shri Shankaraacharya and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. This would certainly help you in finding the spiritual path irrespective of the fact whether you actually find a GURU in physical form. Shyam
  5. Its hard to find a real spiritual Guru in this world. In my search, i found most of them being hippocratic actually giving advice to others when they dont live that life when it comes to their matter. I would suggest you to search within yourself just by reading Bagawat GITA several times when ever you find time. Ultimately you will realise that Krishna is your spiritual GURU. This is what I realised and dont feel lonely nowadays looking for GOD. Regards Shyam
  6. Yes Shree Krishna comes to all of us in any form when we have the purity of mind and devotion to HIM and love towards all living creatures. Shyam
  7. Indifferent to the world and an atheist!!!!!!.Hmm thats interesting. By the way on what basis people are assuming that he will be from Indian subcontinent. There are good number of lands on globe surrounded by three seas, which also includes southern side of african continent also. Afterall the three different names are given by people. Anyway as long as someone appear to reform and maintain peace its fine irrespective of wherever he is from.

  9. To eradicate totally a particular religious beliefs and win over mankind probably could happen only if GOD Himself comes as an avathar and spread peace everywhere. Otherwise it is just not possible to convert or change the minds of millions of people following and having a religious beliefs. Any chance of its mentioning by Nostradamus that He will appear in this 2003. shyam

  11. Its me who requested for the further stories on every chapter. I forgot to log on in my previous mail. I thought you stopped posting after reading my essence of Gita Mahathmiya. I did not mean anything to offend you, but I posted it for everyone to understand the essence of GITA. Regards Shyam

  13. It really does not make any sense to me when I see people confronting, arguing, discussing about GOD in the name of religion. The Supreme Power which governs this Universe what we call as GOD certainly appeared at different times to establish basically morality, and social values called Dharma. But unfortunately, because HE appeared in different pockets at different times in the same globe, different religions and beliefs started in course of time out of which a purely private one-to-one relationship between all souls and GOD is misunderstood and everyone started fighting for superiority forgetting the actual reason for which GOD appeared in some form. HOnestly, people who fight for GOD, irrespective of howmuch ever that person or group claims that they have realised GOD, and show the way for others to reach salvation, actually have not realised GOD. An Individual who has realised GOD, will remain humble, egoless, adjust to any situation given to him/her, extend kindness and help to whatever best possible exten he/she can extend to others without any discrimination and further imposing his/her ideas on the person about GOD or religion. I was asked a question what I will do if GOD comes again now suddenly from the sky, like how we see in movies in front of me and ask me what I want. I answered "I will tell GOD to go back and not to appear again anywhere anymore, because someone will create another new religion in the name of new GOD which will further spoil the existing fight among the stupid people fighting in the name of GOD". Its very sad to see people who are following same religion itself have discrimination among themselves and claim superiority over other group, ulitmately forgetting the human values to the extent of going for war between countries. Following religious beliefs or not, even belief in GOD itself is entirely a private matter and the world will be a peaceful place when everyone start realizing this rather than imposing ideas of their beleifs on others which first create a group, then an organization, then a new religion and sub division among the followers and finally war. "OH GOD..WHY DID YOU APPEAR LIKE THIS IN DIFFERENT AVATHAR JUST TO CREATE ALL THESE CONFUSIONS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU KNOW, NOT ALL HUMAN SOUL HAS THE CAPACITY TO REALIZE WHO YOU ARE"!!!!! With Kind Regards, Shyam
  14. I read sometime ago in The Hindu dates back to early 90's that there is a village in karnataka where sanskrit is spoken language among people even today. Its a spoken language not by just the educated brahmins but also by others. Unfortunately i forgot the name of village. But its there in this present day India. Shyam

  16. Where to find the true word of GOD in this world? When you suffer lonely in a deserted place when you car or motorcycle break down or you have fallen in a pit with nobody around and somone comes to your rescue, you find the true word of GOD. For the thousands of lepers who were treated without any discrimination, mother Theresa was the true word of GOD. For a girl who is saved from a animalistic human pig, the individual who saved her from getting molested is the true word of God/Krishna. For a deserving student who could not pay his school fees, if paid by someone for his exams without any expectations, the person who paid the fees is the true word of GOD. When you yourself extend a help selflessly to another person who is in need and if your help to that person is something great for that moment, you are GOD. As explained in GITA, HE is manifested in every soul. When we realise HIM and call HIM, He comes in some Human form to help us and make us help others who are in need. That Human Form both in its soul and its body matter is nothing but that Supreme power or Shree Krishna. Instead of realizing this, the ignorant minds fight among each other. After realizing this lets try to do as far as possible whatever small help we can be of to other individual or any creature and express the God in us to the other individual or life. Regards Shyam
  17. Any country becomes poor and find it difficult to manage when there is population explosion. As i have mentioned earlier, the present day India remains poor economically, because by the time the country got united and recover from the past lootings by British and try to develop its own infrastructure in all industries, there was simultaneous explosion of population too. Moreover, unfortunately after the freedom fighters who fought for the nation's independence passed away, the people who started ruling, botherd more about how to improve their family wealth than country's well being. Money started accumulating in one sector and poverty in another sector. I would not agree that India is a poor country. The economy is not balanced and the distribution is not equal. Bribery and corruption has increased to a larger extent by the present day politicians especially for the past 30 years in almost all the states. Howmuch ever people shuffle the candidates in electing them, every party remains the same and this is the fact out of which development is hampered. Due to the unstable and constantly irritating political situation, people whoever could afford higher education started moving out of the country. Some of NRIs still invested their money but majority could not for various reasons. But in noway people are low in their attitudes or behaviour or cultural aspects which is a wrong perception of yours. Have you lived in India to comment about people in general like that. Cowardly is again a stron word of yours. HOwmuch ever people write or talk against the politicians, the one who say will come and do better does not do any better job than making money. To get a constitutional majority for any amendment you need to have two third supports. To create new laws against existing corruption, no party's politicians are ready to make any change because they only feel that its going to affect everybody. HOnestly people have become helpless in choosing their leaders because every new fellow appears to be the same irrespective of what and how good he was before becoming the leader. This is the major problem which is also due to ignorance and illiteracy in villages where they blindly beleive the politicians. All these factors contributed to the economic downfall and downfall in the fame of the country. But the general population is in noway low in their attitudes, behaviour, coward or less inteligent than to any other nation as how you are imagining. Are you not aware of the high percentage of Indian software engineers in United states. How is it possible unless we have brains? shyam
  18. Hi..India is a united country as a single unit only for the past 150 years when we decided to send back the British people. The functional single country started only after Independence in 1947. If Indians are cowards as you have mentioned, we would not have chased away the British. So you have to take back your word. What do you consider as low and please explain rather than just giving loose words. Do yo mean to say that all men in every country are great warriors, or having great morals. The Moguls were able to conquer and rule for a long time because India was not united at those times as a single entity as of today and there were several countries or kingdom within the subcontinent ruled by several kings from state to state. The country had a common religion and cultural values in terms of morality but economically or politically it became a single entity only after independence. So the Moguls and the British looted good amount and actual production by the whole country started only after our independence. unfortunately being a tropical country by the time we got independence population was already 400 million and it further increased after that. Thats the reason the country remains economically backward. But in spite of the several invasion from Moguls to British, we still have cultural values and morality in a larger percentage of population on which aspect we are certainly richer than any nation in the western world. Family values and traditions still exists unlike in western countries, where major proportion of teen age pregnancies and casual sex are very common which I am literally observing being in a western country.
  19. Hi..I can very well understand your situation since I too face a similar situation being in US but brought up in India. I can tell you what I do as a person who is trying to understand the essence of Gita without getting influenced by other's thoughts, mainly to live as what GITA says. From whatever I have understood and experienced, I will share with you. Dont try to change anyone just to please anyone. Parents belong to different generations, we belong to different generation. If you try to take the role of parents and try to move with kids of y(our) age, its natural that you get discarded by them. Change cannot be expected overnight. I would rather suggest you to become role model for those kids by mingling with them, yet have your own distinguished identity in not aquiring the health and mind spoiling habits from those kids who are americanized. You can get Americanized on all the positive sides which would make people to realise you as a role model, rather than do all sorts of nonsense what they do thinking that its the way to enjoy life. This will take time for them to accept you and just because you want them to accept you in a short span of time dont indulge in activities to please them. Ultimately this will take you nowhere. Stop trying to give advice to those kids by telling them not to do this and that, but make them realise that Indian values and cultural heritage is something great to follow which you can do only in course of time by actually living through the Indian values by yourself and not overnight. I have personally been illtreated by Indian fellow students brought up in US, for nothing. Later when they realise they come to you by themselves. Its not honestly possible to bring everyone into spiritual development suddenly irrespective of which country they are brought up. If you try this within India also you will fail. Spiritual development comes only in course of time as the individual mature and experience several things in their lives and cannot be forced to please the elders or the youngsters. By doing so, ultimately you are not actually following anything. The only practical way is by being humble and egoless and without any snobishness which most of the american brought up Indian kids lack. This will certainly bring people towards you at one time. Regards Shyam
  20. First I would like to highly commend the individual who has been posting stories of Gita-Mahathmiya. Thanks for that. I would like to give few words about the essence of Gita and Gita-Mahathmiya from whatever little knowledge i have aquired by reading and following Gita in my life. Attaining Moksha and the soul reaching Vaikunta will not come just by reciting the chapters of Gita or by just listening to the chapters. It is assumed that the person who recites the chapters also follow such principles in his/her life and that alone shows that the individual has really understood Shree Krishna. By reciting the second chapter, its true that one will be free of thirst and hunger, because if you actually follow the principles given in second chapter, one will really work hard and hard work always pays out of which you dont run into thirst and hunger. The essence of third chapter is being selfless and kind towards anyone and develop the nature of forgiving the other when they realise the truth. In the same way when you analyze Gita, it clearly proceeds chapter by chapter on how one should live, earn, aquire wealth, but yet how one has to remain as a selfless person, in sharing his extra wealth for the sake of the benefit of the society. One has to be a Benovelont trustee of this society. This nature will come only when you detach yourself from the materialistic aspect of your earning and start helping people selflessly. If you have only one bowl of food and if you happen to be with another person, share it with other person. What ever you earn out of your hard work, make yourself comfortable and by helping others with your earning you make every one happy. So you reach Vaikunta. Reaching Vaikunta will not come just by reciting or listening alone. For example, a person who is doing all atrocious things, in his profession by taking lot of bribes, hurting others, after going home, if he takes bath and recites the chapters of Gita his soul will not reach Vaikunta. A guy who prays to GOD everyday and recites the chapters of Gita for the sake of it, but in his personal life if he disrespect woman and illtreat others, will not attain Moksha just because he read the chapters. Gita is not just for reading or keeping in our homes, it is something to follow in our daily everyday life. Reciting everyday implies, following Gita in our day to day life. The stories in our puranas are told in such a way, it will create an interest for the listener, or else the principles will look like giving raw advice to everyone which everyone dislikes. Unfortunately, people read the stories and visualise it in interesting way, but fail to follow the essence of these stories. As we progress in our materialistic evolution of life from going in a bullock cart to going in aeroplanes, we can still follow GITA in our personal lives. We have to work hard, earn our bread and with the extra money what we have let us become benovelent trustees of this society to help the poor people and the needy who really deserves help. Let us respect others feelings by not hurting the innocent. Let us develop the attitude of forgiving the other person when they realise their faults. Let us lead a moral life by not looking at all woman as just an object of sex, but as another human, as a friend with equal respects by following the principle of Shiva-Shakthi or Radhi-Krishna. At the same time, we have to fight when there is injustice and make the other one realise their fault. If we remain submissive for personal benefit when things go against truth and read GITA everyday its of no use. By following these simple things all of us will reach Vaikunta irrespective of whether you read GITA every day or not. Reciting everyday every chapters basically implies following them in day today life . Sarvam Sri Krishnarpanam Regards Shyam

  22. I forgot to answer your question "If karna should be considered good or not. Ceratinly the character Karna is good by himself due to his unique nature of giving away everything what ever he has. But that does not mean he could go against truth for which he lost his life. He was not right when he supported Duryodhana while Draupathi was insulted. He asked her to sit on duryodhana's lap which was against Dharmam for which he paid for it in the battle. Just because an evil force is helping you out you cannot go out of the way to help the evil when you know that it is evil and going against truth. If you still go for it for personal benefit, like many sholdiers and democrats of the present day world who keep their mouth shut for the sake of not getting into bad side of their leader, then you have to pay for ur hurtful actions against others. But Karna was one among the very few characters who had the Vishvaroopa Dharshan of Mahavishnu through Krishna. This is because of karna's good deeds. So it can be interpreted in such a way that you reap for whatever you sow. If you remain good without hurting anyone and follow the truth, you get good benefits for ur actions. From your side, on the first hand, never try to hurt someone. When some one hurts you especially emotionally, although it may be difficult to digest the situation, make the person realise his/her mistake and make them apologise to you and see to it they dont repeat it again. When somebody hurts us when we are sincere and honest, they certainly pay for it although not on the same day. IN the same way when u hurt others you pay when time comes. These experiences should refine yu so that you wont put some one in a simillar situation sometime later. Be gentle, egoless, kind and honest to others. When you face injustice, fight for it and that is not wrong. Regards Shyam
  23. Hi..Yu are welcome to write to me and I certainly would like to clarify whatever best I can. I have faced different kind of experiences of both extremes in young age itself which certainly helped me in moulding myself. With whatever knowledge and experience i have i will give solution to your situation. If you dont wish to post it you can send personal mails to my id shyam_manohar@ regards Shyam
  24. HI..I am sorry its Arjuna and not Dharma. I made a mistake and I apologise for that. Its arjuna who asked Krishna's help to ride the chariot. I guess i did the mistake in the flow of writing which i should have checked before submitting. Shyam
  25. I read your question on what is right and what is wrong. In my experience and beliefs from what I have understood the essence of Gita I am giving this humble answer. Its true the same God creates both the hungry lion and the beautiful deer. For the animal which has no sense of thinking to discriminate between hurting other life's sense a deer is food. As humans who is given the sixth sense, we should be able to discriminate right and wrong in such a way that our actions does not hurt others. Any action of us whether its a harsh word towards an innocent person, a cruel action towards innocent which hurts them either physically or emotionally is considered wrong. From karmic point of view, the hurt what we create in others either emotionally, or physically or both it will affect us in some form in the same way we hurt the other person's emotions at that time. We are responsible for our actions and none. I will explain the action of karma with an example. In Mahabharata, finally Lord Krishna says that He was the one who created everything and He was responsible for everything for both the actions of Duryodhana and Dharma. This is misinterpreted by many people as. This does not mean whatever evil and hurtful actions one does towards other can be considered as GOD made me todo for that person which looks like we do it for our convenience and blame GOD ultimately. Vyasa has explained this in another situation in which as humans we are given chances for both hurtful and good actions and we have to careful to chose the right path to get the good benefits. Before the Kurukshethra war started both duryodhana and dharma wanted to take help from Krishna. First Duryodhana came to Krishna's place and when he saw krishna was resting, he sat in one of the chairs behind Krishna's head because he did not want to be under His foot. (This shows one's ego and arrogance for which he is going to loose the blessings). When Dharma came he sat in one of the chairs near the foot of Krishna (this shows his humbleness and surrendering to supreme power for His blessings with purity of mind in him). When Krishna woke up He first saw Dharma and immediately asked him when he came and sat at His foot and He is willing to do anything for dharma. Duryodhana was disappointed by this since krishna already gave the word to Dharma. Although Krishna as the Lord created both of them and also created this situation HE provided the oppurtunity to both of them but its one's ego that prevented the blessings to reach duryodhana, while Dharma got the blessing. Also it shows that howmuch ever one prays to GOD from all his mind, unless he has purity of mind and is honest and good, following the truth, GOD will never shower HIS blessings just because you pray to HIM. Krishna as Lord knows that Dharma has truth, and hence He wanted to help only DHarma, and He knows that Duryodhana is arrogant and should face for all his evil actions. But yet He gave the chance everytime to see if a bad person turns to become good realsing the truth with his sixth sense exclusively given to humans. So HE gave the opportunity to duryodhana also but his ego and arrogance prevented him and hence he did not sit at Krishna's foot with the result he lost His help. So one cannot blame GOD for our hurtful actions and words towards other person saying that it was HE who created the situation and I just acted. Its wrong. Divine Grace can be reached only with a sincerity and devotion with purity of mind. It does not require that you have to pray everyday for hours together chanting chores of Mantras. It requires purity of mind, being humble to all, whether you know shastras, read vedas or upanishads or GITA or not, one's mind need to be pure in not hurting any other living creatures for our selfish benefits. When I say concentration, It should be ultra pure to the extent of forgetting oneself. When Draupathi lost all hopes on human help, she cried for Krishna at one moment forgetting the fact that her cloth is going to be removed. When she mingled with the Divine forgetting herself, The Blessings of Krishna came to her like never ending waves in the ocean. All one need is purity of mind with total Devotion and when we can reach this stage you will certainly know what is good and what is bad. Regards Shyam
