  1. Here's one view that I don't agree with:

Modern scientists and astronomers try to explain the cosmic situation and the vastness of space, and some of them believe that all the glittering stars are different suns. From Bhagavad-gītā, however, we understand that all these stars (nakṣatras) are like the moon, in that they reflect the sunshine. They are not independent luminaries. http://prabhupadabooks.com/?g=44671

I don't consider your question a spiritual one but rather a scientific one.<br>Therefore I reccomend you ask it here:

However do a search there first to see if it has already been answered.

  2. You have incoherently mixed elements of different mythologies. This is also known as 'word jugglery'. Congratulations!

    * The supreme is some one who had never shown his/her existence or about whom no holy books have any account. The ruler of the universe is not divine and has the distinctness of the vertex. The true concept is something totally different from everything. * Human beings are divine creation of the supreme but are by the Gods. They are the nippers of the god. The human being has a free will and he chooses his karmas before birth. He has the option to choose his karmic fate when he is in dormant state with no understanding of karmas. It can be assumed to draw blind cards as to choosing karmas. So, you live according to your own choice or your fate. This cycle continues until someone learns in one of his life that what is the reason behind his/her existence. Every human being is created by the omnipotent for a specific reason. But the almighty who is not the God has left it to you to find the reason by yourself. The day you find the real reason for your existence and accomplish it you are free of this world and return to the supreme standing dormant for your next mission. It even takes millions of years for some souls to return to the supreme. * If the above is true then who are GODS? * In simple words gods are our maneuvers and have evolved with presence of supreme in them, but they are not almighty. They are like our father and mother who are always with us no matter whatever we do. They guide us through the path of moksha. The worship or prayer offered to the gods/goddesses from heart and soul are taken into account and the moment you recognize them as your nurturer you might not know but you have started your journey on the path of moksha and in this path only you will accomplish your very specific goal for which the supreme sent you to mother earth!!!! * The most apex form of the supreme are of course Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh(Shiva) but Devi is the most distinct form of the supreme amongst the Gods as devi can be seen in various forms. Lord Jesus is assumed to be equivalent to Lord Vishnu and both are equipped with powers to forgive the sins of human beings what they do out of their karmas in this materialistic world. Though, every Gods/goddesses have their own importance and powers but it is better to find your family deity or choose your deity on the basis of the faith you have on any god. All are the forms of the supreme. Who is the Supreme actually?? The supreme, the omnipotent, the almighty, the creator or the maker has indefinite forms in actual but all the forms are distinct. The almighty is most popularly believed to be present in the FIVE Elements or the Panchtatva. There are infinite forms but no vedas or holy books have accounts of the supreme coz he is sovereign. * With Best Regards * God Bless All! * Om Namah Shivaya!

  3. Frankly I quite don't know what to think about this. I would welcome everyone sharing their insights on this story:

Renowned singer Andrea of only Sanskrit rock band marries in Nevada

    Las Vegas Herald

    Saturday 9th May, 2009

    (ANI)

Nevada (US), May 9 : Andrea Devi Forman, the lead singer of the only Sanskrit rock band of the world Shanti Shanti, married an attorney Joel A. Santos in a traditional Catholic church ceremony in Sparks (Nevada, USA) on May eight.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who was present at the wedding, will also bless the couple in customary Hindu way once they return from their honeymoon in Canada.

Andrea recently released her sixth album titled "Veda" on the oldest scripture of the world Vedas. This groundbreaking work, which took one year to complete involving extensive research, contains shlokas (hymns) from all four Vedas-Rig-veda, Sama-veda, Atharva-veda, and Yajur-veda; some as old as 1,500 BCE.

Andrea has never been to India, never had a Sanskrit teacher, and still she can spontaneously chant, read, write, and translate Sanskrit since she was nine years old. She has toured various countries and various states of USA with her Shanti Shanti band giving packed Sanskrit musical performances. She has been in various television shows, mentioned in various publications, and extensively written about. http://story.lasvegasherald.com/index.php/ct/9/cid/1e0899715fbc2697/id/499520/cs/1/

  4. I think trying to figure out what is "sin" is only elementary spirituality - compassion for all living creatures is the basis for vegetarianism IMO.

Maybe sins are minimized if those who are not vegetarians ( christians, muslims, buddhists, etc ) eat only fish, crabs, shrimps, oysters and seaweeds instead of beef, pork and birds. For viand, Jesus Christ ate only fish and didn`t forbid his disciples to drink an alcoholic beverage(wine). If christians eat meat it`s because of what Jesus Christ believed. That whatever one takes through the mouth commits no sin. What`s sinful is that which comes from the bottom of our hearts such as deceit and malice.

  5. sambya1, I appreciate that you are a vegetarian and that you are "merely protesting against ... idiotic rigidity of thought", however I would like to comment on your remarks about manu smriti. If "one may eat meatwhen Brahmanas desire", or "in the performance of a rite" or "when one's life is in danger", then we can infer that one normally may not. Logically, the manu smriti is listing exceptions to a generally accepted principle. Otherwise the words "may" would be nonsensical. If meat eating were done in only these circumstances, I for one would not have a problem with it. What is at issue here (for me) is the kind of casual meat consumption which fuels factory farming that most omnivores engage in for the sake of their palate.

... munusmriti specifically says that meat eating is not forbidden ...

... manu smriti chapter five ---

    27. One may eat meat when it has been sprinkled with water, while Mantras were recited, when Brahmanas desire (one's doing it), when one is engaged (in the performance of a rite) according to the law, and when one's life is in danger. ...

  6. One can teach practically anything and say that it is based upon the Vedas in some way. The question should be "Was the common understanding in Vedic times that married people should only use their genitals for procreation?"

If so, please provide reference. If not then admit that it is a newer idea. I am not saying that gurus don't have the right to make rules for their disciples but let's be clear if that is what he did; if so then it should only be looked upon as a special discipline for ISKCON members and should not be looked upon as moral principles applicable to everyone - such as do not kill a cow.

this he said because he wanted to tell you to control sexual desires and have sex to create babies rather than to enjoy sex and lust.

now isnt this in the vedas .

he teaches on the basis of vedas

  7. sant, the links are now up and please bear in mind that I am not trying to say that any of this reflects on Swami Prabhupada who always preached non-violence and even his enemies say was pure;

however I feel that purity does not equate to being free from error and everything should be on the table and be subject to discussion for those who feel they want to discuss topics such as these.

My warning was because I have learned first hand that Vaishnavs, like people of other religions will sometimes resort to violence when they feel that their sacred icons are disrespected (I myself have been threatened in Los Angeles).

    im sorry smiley

you took quite some time but im shore you must have been finding the link

    please forgive me

  8. Why not give me a chance to respond before claiming that I can't answer?

To answer your question (and of course none of this reflects on Swami

Prabhupada who always preached non-violence), there are devotees

who are willing to kill if their guru is offended:

Sulocana Das was killed by such devotees who felt their guru was offended.

Steve Bryant was killed by such devotees who felt their guru was offended.

The gurus who were offended are considered less than Swami Prabhupada.

Therefore the murder victims were killed for "saying less" than if they had

spoken against Swami Prabhupada. Now will you concede this point?

<!-- END TEMPLATE: bbcode_quote -->whos been killed for saying less

    be clear or dont say

<!-- / message -->you cant answer because you talk nonsense you come up with such ridiculous posts and start picking out 2 lines of what prabhupada has said

  9.

Prabhupada is actually being polite here.

The god depicted in islamic and christian books is a jealous and vengefull one.

Krishna is not a jealous god.

In my book a jealous and vengeful god is no god.:smash:

"Do not worship any other god, for the LORD,

whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God".

    Exodus 34:14 (NIV)

    "You shall not bow down to them or worship them;

for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God,

punishing the children for the sin of the fathers

to the third and fourth generation of those

who hate me" Exodus 20:5 (NIV)

"If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.

"If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known), then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, [a] both its people and its livestock.

"Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. It is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt. None of those condemned things shall be found in your hands, so that the LORD will turn from his fierce anger; he will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as he promised on oath to your forefathers, because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in his eyes". Deuteronomy 13:6-18 (NIV)

  10. You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately people have been killed for saying less and so it is good that these truths can be communicated anonymously.

    well said !!

a meat eater (including beef) , idol demolisher , orthodox muslim believing in allah in perfect exclusion of any other dieties appear vaishnav to prabhupada .

a meat eater( including beef) , anti idolatry , orthodox catholic with an absolute abhorrence towards pagan gods seem vaishnav to prabhupada .

and so on with all other world religions .

but sadly due to some unknown cause a vegetarian , truthful hindu shakta shaiva or ganapatya who shudders to think of eating a cow , following the vedas and puranas with full belief in personal god can never be a vaishnav .

ridiculous and insane !!! thats what it is !!

  11. I would like to hear everyone's views on the following exchange;

Hṛdayānanda: (translating) What do we think of Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Buddha and other bogus persons and all these different messengers of God?

Prabhupāda: They have got little advancement. Just like Mohammedans, they accept the kingdom of God, and the Buddhists, they say that this material world has to be finished. Buddhists do not give any information of the spiritual world, but they do not like this material world; they want to finish it. So every religious principle is preached according to the candidate, place and time. So if one surpasses these stages, then he can come to the higher stages of spiritual understanding.

Hṛdayānanda: [break] (translating) ...take that maybe religion is simply imagination or a big business.

Prabhupāda: Yes, if there is no right information, it is something like that. [break] We should try to understand what is religion. Religion means the law of God. Just like law means the rulings given by the state, that is law, similarly, religion means the rulings given by God. But if one does not know what is God, then how he can accept what is His ruling? Therefore anyone who has got very scanty knowledge of God, that kind of religion is also scanty. That is the definition in the Vedic literature. Dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītam: [sB 6.3.19] "Dharma, or religion, means the codes or the law given by God." And the Bhagavad-gītā, the same ruling is given, law, sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja: [bg. 18.66] "You give up all types of man-made religion; you simply surrender unto Me." Therefore the conclusion is religion means to surrender to God. So one who is fully surrendered to God, he is religionist. (end) http://prabhupadabooks.com/?g=157117

You should ask a Brahmin priest if there are any restrictions.

It is consonant with Sanatana Dharma to consult them in any

    matters relating to the Vedas.

  13. suchandra, I agree that that sentence was not correct and needed to be changed. However a number of things were changed - even useful things like the relevant links that I mentioned.

Also as I tried to say before even when change is in order, it would seem to be better to announce it to all on the relevant forum and inform people as to why the changes are being made, if nothing else then just for a 'heads up' (devotees should know that some impersonalists had monkeyed with the page and now it is being corrected). Even better is for interested parties to agree upon the precise language - individuals taking it upon themselves to change back and forth leads to chaos (no disrespect intended towards shiva). Do you agree with anything that I have said?

Before it said, "The living entities are in reality Krishna and not individuals".

You mean to say that devotees feel disrespected when this is changed?

  14.

    I fixed it.

Did you mean to disable the links in 8. (Achintya Bheda Abheda) and 9. (Bhakti)? They seemed relevant. Also there is a protocol for editing a page on wikipedia. A discussion is entered into with other devotees who have an interest in that page. You post your intent and the wording you propose. Others give you feedback. You may be right in your changes but if everyone doesn't follow some kind of protocol then it would change back and forth daily - creating chaos. Also other devotees may feel disrespected and slighted. Please start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Chaitanya_Mahaprabhu

sathya sai claims to be an avataar of shiva

He revealed that the Sai Avatar is a triple incarnation of the Shiva-Shakthi Principle – Shiva as Shirdi Sai Baba, Shiva and Parvathi embodied as Sri Sathya Sai Baba and the Shakthi Principle that will incarnate as Prema Sai in the Mandya District of the state of Karnataka.

    http://www.srisathyasai.org.in/Pages/SriSathyaSaiBaba/Introduction.htm

  16. Are you aware of why people think that this particular person is avatar?

It is not possible for a common man to adopt lengthy methods of rites to worship in his daily busy life. Infact Lord Baba Gangaram, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, needs no formalities or offerings. Meditation, prayer, Kirtan (Psalm Singing), fasting and chanting His name through mantras are the easiest way to worship Him.

Besides three main festivals (refer : Festivals), the 10th light lunar day of each month (Shukla Dashmi) and Tuesday bear greater importance and are regarded as special day for fasting and to worship Baba Gangaram.
