Bhagavad-gita As It Is - Chapter Two

  2.

Yes, it seems to be different standards.

My father in law is Prabhpad disciple and, along with his wife, they follow different.

My diet on Ekadasi is generally:

    Potatoes with cheese

    fruits

    or fasting completely !

    much love

Potatoes seem to be an ekadasi staple in my house also. Potato soup is the soup of the day here. The ekadasi recipes look tempting but really I thought the idea was to remain simple on ekadasi in order to put our time into serving and chanting more.

  3.

Wow! Fasting looks safer. Tomatoes and honey - I never would have guessed. I just thought it was grains and beans.

Srila Prabhupada's standard is fasting from grains and beans. Many of the items listed above are allowed (such as califlower). Srila Prabhupada allows peanuts on ekadasi also.

Please don't misunderstand me. I am not saying the list above is wrong. I am just saying that for followers of Srila Prabhupada it is different.

I am trying to find a list to post here but so far no luck altho I have found some ekadasi recipe pages such as:

  4. Emperera Constantine decided what would and wouldn't be in the bible as we know it. Much of the bible was "kicked out" because he was afraid of the effect it would have on those practicing the Christian faith. In other words, it might not be in his (constantine's) favor. For example, in one of the forbidden books Jesus goes to the gates of hell and the devil releases those who have served their time thus killing off the idea of "eternal hell and damnation".

In another of the forbidden books one of Jesus' disciples ask Jesus "how can a loving God, our father, condemn us to eternal hell?" Jesus wispers in his ear, "He doesn't and that is the secret".

Sorry I do not remember the names of the forbidden books of the bible nor the personalities involved other than Jesus.

So can we really say that today's bible is "veda"? How much of what is left was changed?

  5. Thank you for having the strength and courage to bring up this topic. It gives me great relief to know that i am not the only one that this has happened to and perhaps the ability to voice this will help.

    Haribol,

I decided to bring it here because it is a problem i have and it seems like some other have it too:

Many times when i offer food or chanting gayatri, some offences are coming in my mind, like insult toward Sri Sri Radha Govinda, in the form of gross vocabulary.

I'd like to know if it happens to some of you also. When it happens i really feel disturbed because i feel like i'm making big offence. If i offer food and that happens, i feel like my offering is spoiled, for example.

Some devotee told me it happened to them also, and that bhutas linving inside of you are doing that.

Any light, sharing on this subject will be greatly appreciated

    LOVE

  7.

And how effective will be your preaching be denying the existence of the amniotic sac to a doctor or for that matter anyone who has had a baby and experience the water breaking?

Why don't stool urine and worms come out before birth instead of amniotic fluid?

If we have faith in Srimad Bhagavatam, we will not concern ourselves with the "supposed" contradictions between this ancient book of nectar and knowledge and the "theories" of scientists who are just conditioned souls trapped by maya like the rest of us. Scientific theories constantly change. Rember the earth was once flat and the scientists were adamant about that fact.

It is a waste of time and this time would be better spent developing our Krishna Consciousness.

So...how do you know there are not microscopic worms and stool bacteria in the water of the pregnant woman? After witnessing, this in my wife, I can tell you the water that comes out is not crystal clear nor is it the same consistency as the water from your faucet, lake or river. However, don't expect to see earth worms and chunks of feces! :smash:

Devotees do not drink tea and coffee as they are considered to be intoxicants or mild stimulants because of the caffeine. However, tea has been proven to be very beneficial to health. It aids in digestion, relaxes the mind and has antioxidants that can prevent cancer.

So is it is OK to drink DECAFFEINATED tea and coffee which by definition is not intoxicating?

    Hare Krishna,

My understanding is that there is still a percentage of caffeine even in decaf tea and coffee. I know some devotees who drink decaf drinks tho.

  9.

What techniques do you use for memorization of slokas? I'd like to improve my capacity to recall as necessary but my poor brain doesn't seem to do the greatest job. Any suggestions?

I write the slokas on an index card (one sloka per card) and each day read one of them over and over. Set on it on my desk, carry it around with me. This has helped me.

  10. Nina Hagen is amazing! How long ago did she record this?

Context is completely and transcendentally felt in the heartfelt following of Srila Prabhupadas plea that we sing. And dance. And Nina Hagen is awesome.

by far the best youtube ever. The art work is sublime. When baby Krsna winks at you, tell me you didnt burst into tears, even at a public internet place. Now this is context.

  11.

    Haribol,

Is it offensive to chant for a novice on tulasi beads instead of neem beads?

I know I make lot of offences knowingly or unknowingly sometime.

    ys, dev

No, it is not offensive. Try to chant sincerely and follow the four regs. I heard that the only reason not to chant on Tulsi beads is if you still eat meat.

Besides, how are you going to know if you are "unknowingly" committing offenses? :o

How many here chant purely and without any offense knowingly or unknowingly? Raise your hands!

  12.

I certainly hope you don't consider my posts an 'extreme attack'. Somehow this has gotten off of a discussion regarding what should be revealed to a neophyte audience as determined by the advanced Vaisnavas and instead has broken into sectarian nonsense.

There "gurus" and their followers who say that Prabhupada did not give us "everything". I have often wondered if they ever read the Sri Caitanya Caritamrta and Srila Prabhupada's purports. Even Krsna Book for that matter.

  13.

Why do some of us fear self realization do you think?

Fear of the unknown possibly? There are times when people will not leave a bad situation no matter how much they suffer. Why is that? Because it is familiar and they know what will happen. It is actually perversely comfortable to them. To make change is unknown and therefore, fearful.

As a sidenote: Bhagavad-gita; 2.41 is a very important verse to the fallen souls of the western world.

Srila Prabhupada mentions somewhere (can't remember where) that it was when he read this verse back in the 1950's that his resolve to follow Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura's order to preach Krishna Consciousness in English. It was when he read Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura's commentary on this verse and was so struck by it that he knew that he had to do this.
