*means genetic predisposition. I never said genetics was the whole picture. People in the US have become obscenely fat in the 15 years. Everything has sugar in it and they are wolfing it down like hogs feasting on their morning stool. You are welcome to believe diabetes can be cured by a two day fast if you like.

I had trouble finding it. After all the fanfare we can't let this one go. Hope you are feeling better soon. Ginger root tea is good for everything.

Prabhupada was also what I would call down to earth. I use the term to mean non-pretentious and approachable. Krsna's representative taking a small room in the bowery of New York city. "Down Home Swami". Like that. That is how he came off in the clip which is all I was speaking to. We should be able to say something positive about someone withut the need to throw some dirt at the same time. I'm no fan of the Iskcon system but these people are not satans incarnate either Beggar. C'mon now.

It's like reclaiming one's virginity. The spiritself never really becomes tainted by the mundane conceptions of good and evil just like the young prince never really becomes an orphan and a pauper even though when in a drunken state he may think himself so temporarily forgetting he is the King's son. The King never forgets. The way of the world is to try and become great, above all others. Religion is often used for this aim. Tremendous austerities are performed. Hiranyakasipu is a good example of this. But the pure bhaktas have taken the path of innocence and pure natural faith in the Lord as exemplified by Prahlada Maharaja. Makes me wonder about my own motive in approaching God. What do I really want, heaven, power, status, wealth .....the path of Hiranyakasipu? Am I trying to use the Holy Name to acquire these things? Or am I being attracted to the path of innocence and childlike faith shown by Prahlada Maharaja? The confusing thing is I feel my motives are mixed with good and bad desires and tendancies. This is the case with all beginners. We can't just whimsically ignore the injunctions of the scriptures and pretend to the state of spiritual innocence. The best we can do is to become ever alert to the true motives of our minds and take shelter of Prahlada and those like him allowing their natural state of innocence and faith to influence us. "Stalk the mind" while seeking innocence. Being "harmless as doves and wise and alert as serpents."

Nice little clip. I thought Jayapataka Swami came off really well as a down to earth chap and handle the situation really well. No pompousity. I would have liked to have seen the whole piece. I have never been around Jayapataka Swmai. Is that his usual demeanor? Seemed approachable and nice or was that just for the camera? His disciples seemed pleasant and happy as well. I kinda expected a mocking of the Hare Krsna's and an attempt to make them look foolish but there was none of that in what I saw.

Recipe from that link sounds good but I would leave out or substitute the sugar. Never had Jack fruit. Bitter melon is said to good for lowering blood sugar. Article on bitter melon and diabetes. http://www.diabeteshealth.com/read/2005/02/01/4095.html

Sorry but this is overly simplistic. I wish it were true so then I wouldn't have to inject insulin twice a day. Never had diabetes as a kid but my mother developed it later on in her life and that happened to me. Can't discount genetics. I have been on a vegan diet for the better part of 36 years and avoided white four & rice and never bought refined sugar. Only around the temple did I sometimes blow my routine. Not overweight. No way I should have developed diabetes from rather good habits surrounding diet. Genetics tripped me up finnally. The standard Indian diet is one that promotes diabetes. India has one of if not the highest rate of diabetes in the world. Very low Alzheimer rate though due to tumeric but that is another story. I hope devotees are watching their blood sugar levels. I just read a story last week about a dasi who was suffering severley because of diabetic complications.

What are you soryy about? Thanks for the tip.

I saw that documentary on PBS. It does nothing to prove evolution. Darwin was very keen observer of nature and on the basis of that intelligence postulated that there must be a moth with a very long tongue to be able to reach the nectar in the flower. Right answer arrived at by an incorrect assumption. But even if you accept the evolution of species the real point is there is a Supreme Intelligence setting the whole thing in motion and that everything is happening by design.

I am not convinced of this. It is more complex then this. Some are born diabetic and are known as type 1. It can't be said that the baby ate too much. Seeds of the jack fruit lower blood sugar? That is worth checking out. Are there other names for Jack Fruit?

Still thinking this is a dietary concern shows you don't understand the premise which is cow protection. You know actions directed towards other living beings are also sativ rajarsic and tamasic in nature. Personally I don't give a damn what anyone else eats. I am concerned about how much suffering you inflict on other living beings to get your food however. Is it satvic to support this? cows produce milk only when pregnant and stop after their calves have been weaned. When a dairy cow delivers a female calf, the calf becomes a dairy cow herself, born to live in the same conditions as her mother. But when a dairy cow delivers a male calf, the calf is sold to a veal farm within days of birth, where he is tethered to a stall, deprived of food and exercise, and soon slaughtered for meat. Life is only a few years longer for the mother. Because it is unprofitable to keep cows alive once their milk production declines, dairy cows are usually slaughtered at 5 years of age. Thus, a cow's normal life span of 25 years is cut 20 years short just to cut costs and maximize production.

"But"!? When it comes to cow protection there is no but! This last sentence "I understand the passion and the necessity for cow protection, but people should choose whatever diet benefits them" could have been written by a meat eater justifying his flesh consumption.

Spiritual Questions - Sick patient and doctor?
theist replied to amost's topic in Spiritual Discussions
I understand and trying to suggest that your question can be better framed. Of course if you are just curious in an academic way that will be different then if your question is more personal. To be honest my take is it is more personal but you are trying to frame it in an academic way as a way of trying to present Christ. If I am wrong I apologize and will refrain from trying to answer. If I am correct then perhaps just be more straight forward and I believe we can have a fruitful conversation. -
Report from the Feburary/March GBC meetings 2008
theist replied to Sarva gattah's topic in Spiritual Discussions
No I don't think it has either. I believe one mistake that is made is that like the Jews waiting for the Messiah to defeat the Romans and establish the Kingdom of God on the earth in an external way most devotees of Mahaprabhu are waiting for this 10,000 golden age to float down out of the sky external to themselves. This is not how the Kingdom of God manifests on the earth. Just like the Lord enters the statue of Krishna on the altar through the hearts of His servants so does the Kingdom of God arrive through the hearts of His devoted servants. As we enter internally into the Kingdom of God our external surroundings will become reflective of our Krishna consciousness and when enough have so entered we will be able to say this 10,000 year Golden Age has begun. No one can live in the Kingdom of God without personally becoming a loyal and surrendered servant of the King. -
Bangladesh scientists invent herbal tea to reduce insulin intake for diabetics Xinhua News Agency 03-06-08 DHAKA, Mar 6, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Bangladeshi scientists recently invented an herbal tea that would help insulin-dependent diabetic patients reduce their insulin intake, leading English newspaper the Daily Star reported Thursday. A group of scientists of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) invented the herbal tea from leaf extracts of local tree named Jarul. The research was conducted at BCSIR research institute in Bangladesh's southeastern city Chittagong. Azad Khan, president of Diabetic Association was quoted by the newspaper as saying *that since the tea is extracted from nature, it has no side effect and it might be helpful for diabetic patients. He said, "Diabetes has spread in the world like an epidemic and developing countries are the worst victims of this disease. An estimated 6 million people in Bangladesh now have diabetes." Diabetic patients' body produces insufficient insulin that controls the level of sugar in their blood. The diabetic patients who are dependent on insulin injections might benefit from the herbal tea as the recommended use of the tea could lower sugar level in their blood through insulin secretion from their pancreas and thus lower their insulin intake requirement, said experts. The herbal tea might also help reduce obesity, the experts added. Prof. Dr. Choudhury Mahmood Hasan, chairman of BCSIR, said herbal drug is safe and effective and it has gained approval across the globe, securing a market share of 62 billion U.S. dollars. Fame Pharmaceuticals company will market the herbal tea under the brand name of DiabeNo. *This is a very naive claim and sounds more like the words of a marketier than a medical professional. Strycnine grows naturally and that could hardly be said to be without side effects. Anyone know anything about Jarul leaves as an herb?

Spiritual Questions - Sick patient and doctor?
theist replied to amost's topic in Spiritual Discussions
This confusion is not your fault. Hinduism is presented in such a confusing manner with so many different gods being worshipped. I can't advise you about gods. I am only interested in learning and sharing what I learn about God. The Lord is known and named according to His attributes. The world could not begin to hold a separate temple for each attribute and there is no need to worship each attribute separately. They are all contained in One Supreme Being. The same God who heals the body is also the God who rules time and over takes everyone as death. So there is no need to have a temple for the healer God and and another for the death God. -

Please remember there is only one God. Not a Hindu God or Muslim God or Christian God or Hebrew God..... One God.... Only One... language differences are irrelevant when calling upon the Lord. He hears all. -

I thought I answered that question. -
Yeah I stopped reading his posts because of this offensive garbage. Just as bad is the fact that posts like that are allowed to remain posted on this forum whereas A post of mine last week about Sai Baba being worshiped as Yeti was quickly deleted.

I think Guruvani is doing the right thing by not posting for a while. He needs to sort some things out. One day he was breathing fire on the iskcon gurus. Then he was supporting them. He was a ritvik one day and not the next. Extremely hostile towards Narayana Maharaja and then towards the end he even made a comment that Narayana Maharaja was the successor to Srila Prabhupada. I saw many faces in him looking in different directions. We are all confused on many points. The thing is he spoke in favor of each side he was on for that day with such great conviction even if he spoke the previous day against that side with the same conviction. I really appreciated his views on the spread of the Hare Krsna movement using Lord Caitanya's tour in south India as the example. I hold a similar view. Just Harinam and Krsna Katha without all the muss and fuss and letting the empowerment come naturally through the purity of those engagements. I wish he would have just stuck to that viewpoint and left all the "this guru or that guru" stuff behind. Just see the confusion that is caused by not accepting Caitya-guru as the primary guru and then thinking too much on all this "who is the real guru" drama.

I missed this. I saw it as a vertebrae with the spinous process and nerves extending from it. Looking at it from an above position.
